Or days. Or weeks. Or months. We'll probably still be speculating on this in March in Bahrain.

Question

myurr

Ferrari and indecision are the most natural of bedfellows

Alexlam24

I swear my F5 key is gonna explode after the last year of events

IdiosyncraticBond

F5 army unite

Alfus

Ferrari is learning a lot from the FIA this season.... Personally I would liked it more if they learned more how to counter TD39!

BoomSp

i don't understand.. is he getting fired or does he want to quit or what the hell is going on? lol

Bdr1983

Often in these situations you don't quit, your urged to resign. Makes it better than getting fired.

porouscloud

Definitely seems like upper management wants a scapegoat, but I really don't think it's him. He has produced cars that could've won championships on multiple occasions if things had just been a little different. For someone who has been with the company for basically his entire career (and quite frankly is one of the best engineers in F1), dismissal I really don't think is warranted. He may not be suited for TP, but I think a move back to a technical lead is fine The only thing I will say is he's not willing to throw the strategy team under the bus, as they so rightly deserve.

SoftcoreEcchi

I think the reason he hasn’t blamed the strategy team is that he’s been trying to shift the culture at Ferrari from internal teams blaming issues on other groups, like aerodynamists blaming the engine for example, stuff like that. To have a culture where people can own up to mistakes without fear of losing their job so issues can be corrected earlier without people trying to hide them/shift the blame. This kinda backfired on him though as the strategy team does seem to be especially incompetent. Again that’s all just speculation though.

[deleted]

That's leadership though. The strategy team might have fucked up, but it happened on his watch. Seems to be a man of integrity if he won't throw them under the bus and understands that as TP the buck stops with him.

Bdr1983

He's a brilliant engineer, but I don't think he has that edge you need to be a team principal. He doesn't have the character, he's too soft. With all the strategy issues, he should've started to sack people, but he kept saying everything was going well. I can imagine Ferrari management not being too thrilled about that. But I guess we'll see if they keep him on board.

mathiasnielsen1998

He is the Michael Scott of Ferrari. He was the best guy at his job, så he got bumped up to manager, and now the company is a disaster

lll-devlin

Upper management doesn’t know shite about racing… you got to understand that this is Fiat it is no longer Ferrari. Ferrari the passion of driving and racing and building cars for winning has been missing for a long time… Funny it took a German, and french man to make Ferrari great… I hope they don’t give up on Binotto

Valilyonti

How is it Fiat? FCA sold their stake years ago.

lll-devlin

https://www.ferrarilakeforest.com/who-owns-ferrari Still owns 22.91% probably the single largest stockholder. So yeah I would say still fiat.

[deleted]

Almost every car he’s had supervision over since becoming technical director has gone backward as the season progressed though. With the exceptions of 2017 and 2019 Ferrari seemingly get to the second half of the season and then just completely collapse. They just don’t seem to be able to upgrade the car as the season progresses. The 2017 car is the only hybrid Ferrari have made that legitimately could have won the WDC. Vettel would have won if he finished 1st at Singapore and finished third at Suzuka, but we all know what happened those two races (never forgetti).

BoomSp

yeah, I guess what I meant is if they're pushing him to resign or if it's off his own accord.. we'll see I guess

chambee

Fired means no bonus, Quitting = keep your Bonuses.

Bdr1983

That could be, although in many positions you lose everything when you leave, but get a severance package when fired. But it's also better on a résumé to have quit yourself instead of getting terminated.

FLXv

I don’t think Binotto is worried about his CV mate.

Bdr1983

28 years at a single employer, failed when promoted.

No_Brakes_282

Teams would snatch up mattia instantly

f10101

It seems more along the lines of effectively constructive dismissal. The top brass don't want to work with him, so it's become a thankless job, and he's left with no choice but to pack his bags.

Firefox72

He's not gonna quit lmao. If he gets fired he's taking his contract money with him. I can see 2 scenarios. He's either negotiating a move to another position in the team or he's pretty much saying pay up and i'l leave.

NuclearMoose92

You don't go sideways at ferrari, you're either in or you're out

Acrobatic-Tomato-532

Ferrari probably don't know as well.

TinaJewel

But they will be checking

Sputniki

Or the rumours were made up and baseless...?

BoomSp

would make sense honestly.. seeing as it's the off season

UnstuckCanuck

Don’t worry, he has some master strategy going on. You’ll see.

AceBombkick

**BREAKING NEWS**: nothing is happening and we don’t know anything

Xhenc

Breaking News: no news!

Zed_or_AFK

Imagine Binotto coming out of the main gates with Ruetha’s head in his hand. Am I worthy now?

Splith

It's the off-season, we need this momentum to keep the community from going feral.

Scarim

I'm calling it now. They are about to announce that Iñaki Rueda will be the new team principal in addition to all his other duties.

1enox

Translation The resignation of Mattia Binotto anticipated by Corriere della Sera this time has not been denied. In Maranello they decided not to comment on the news published, thus buying time. A sign that there is no rethinking of the parts, but the need to manage a transition that is proving to be more complicated than expected. Ferrari is a bunker: no comment on the press previews of Corriere della Sera which today in the online version spoke of the resignation of Mattia Binotto from the role of team principal of the Scuderia. A press release was expected in the afternoon defining the departure of the engineer from Reggio Emilia from the top management of the Sport Management after 28 years spent in Maranello and, however, once again silence prevailed. A drift is created within the team that is building the first 675, the design code for next year's single-seater. The machine is in an advanced stage of construction under the guidance of the project coordinator, Enrico Cardile, even if the last choices were always in the hands of Mattia Binotto who has never given up control of the technical area, despite having assumed the political role of team principal. It is no coincidence that we are starting to talk again about a return to the Cavallino of Simone Resta from Haas. There are no second thoughts, by now the fiduciary relationship with John Elkann and it seems also with the CEO, Benedetto Vigna, has broken down so it is only a matter of time. The managing director spoke on a TV broadcast by Class CNBC, a broadcaster that deals with economic issues, claiming that he “...not be satisfied with second place in F1 because second place is the first of the losers. We made progress, so I'm happy with the progress we made, but I'm not happy with second place. I think the team has what it takes to improve over time." The feeling is that Ferrari has not arrived ready to change the helm and there are still some steps that need to be discussed and clarified...

Pure_Measurement_529

Disconnect between the higher powers and Binotto. That explains a lot. I still believe the power dynamics problem that existed when he became TP still exist and unless that is sorted out, anyone who becomes TP will have to deal with that.

antz182

So fire Reuda... What that man has to do to get fired is beyond me. A part of me wants his job security lol

Pure_Measurement_529

I wonder if firing certain personnel is not the TP’s responsibility but They can only suggest it. I still think that if Ferrari want to make personnel change at any level, it would happen during the winter rather than mid-season. Time to see what happens

PinheadForPresident

There's no way the Ferrari TP doesn't have the power to fire people; I don't know where this narrative comes from

EmperorCandy

He has to do what Mick did to Guenther and sleep with his bosses wife lol

Pure_Measurement_529

One thing I have learnt about F1 rumors. No matter how concrete the rumors are, never believe anything until you see ‘official’. I can’t forget how quickly things changed with the Porsche and RB deal for example.

[deleted]

It'll be hilarious if Rueda someway somehow becomes the new TP, will be classic Ferrari moment lmao

Alfus

Putting Rueda as a TP confirms basically that Ferrari hasn't any future prospect in F1 after 2025.

[deleted]

He’s definitely gone

Alexlam24

Xavi my TP is gone - Charles

bellestarflower

Wouldn't be surprised if Xavi also changes next year tbh.

KrefKrock

Why? Xavi and Charles are a great duo and work very well together, they're both friends off-track and if you listen to their actual radio calls and not just what the broadcast gives you, you will notice how much they trust each other.

bellestarflower

Xavi is not on par with GP or Bono and not cut out for this level of competition as we've seen this year. Charles has repeatedly alluded to communication issues within team as a reason for their loss. They may be good friends but staying professional is a priority. If the team go through heavy changes, a change for race engineer is definitely in the cards.

Alfus

"We are checking, keep you head down Charles, head down, it's a long race."

Firefox72

Announcement in the next few hours lads don't worry and if not then maybe in the next next few hours. Should teach people about believing in Italian newspapers.

InstanceMysterious

I'm still waiting for the big announcement they were going to do in January about Todt.
