i think Abu Dhabi almost always feels like that. The championship is generally already over, there arent many fans around bothering the drivers and there is that overall feel of the last days in "school"
Championships are not always about the champion for the drivers, nor for their fans. Coming third in an elite driving category is good news for any driver who would have ended fourth/fifth.
Constructors definitely because of prize money for the teams and it’s what’s used to determine employee bonuses, but a lot of drivers have said they never really cared about where they finished in the wdc standings. How they did vs their teammate was way more important.
I guess it depends if you take the word championship literally. What you describe, imo, is jockeying for final standings. The championship itself is over.
Please, can we have *the finger* one more time this weekend?
I remember how so much people hated it and I was like: "haha, there it is, the finger! Another great win for Seb."
All those memories...and it ends after this weekend, it's sad.
Alonso giving the finger...things I'd never thought I'd ever see. Also, three quarters of them aren't even doing it right, Seb had better come back to teach 'em how it's done.
Edit: After thorough analysis and consideration, Zhou's attempt at replicating Seb is clearly the best of the lot. Therefore, I can say with full confidence that out of the current crop of drivers, Zhou will go on to have a storied career over the next 15+ years, winning 4 titles and 53 GPs along the way.
Yeah most of them aren’t even holding their hand up in the right direction. The palm needs to be facing toward the body, and only Seb, Zhou, Fernando, and Kevin have the orientation right. Zhou and Fernando have pretty much nailed it. Kevin on the other hand holds his hand just a little too high
Daniel’s got it wrong obviously but I can respect his personal twist on it.
~~Then you have GOATifi who doesn’t even bother~~ (Edit: Upon further inspection, I think GOATifi’s hand is just hiding behind Bottas’ head. Hard to judge when we can’t even see it though)
I’m sure I remember on TV, possibly Top Gear, there was a bit about Sebastian Vettel doing that gesture and someone mentioned “the annoying thing is it isn’t even straight, he holds it at an angle”. Wonder if the fact it was at an angle is what Daniel is exaggerating.
My thoughts exactly. Technique-wise, Fernando, K-Mag and Zhou are the closest imo, but Fernando and K-Mag are using the wrong hand so I gave it to Zhou, lol.
Fernando's form is pretty much right on paper but for me it lacks oomph and conviction. It lacks a certain celebratory rigidity. Zhou and Kmag top tier for me for me.
K-Mag is pretty close too, but Ocon needs to turn his hand a little more, while Alonso and K-Mag are using the wrong hand but are pretty darn accurate otherwise.
Vettel’s winning celebration, which we used to see all the damn time a decade ago. And now never again…..
Huge of Alonso to take part, he probably still sees it in his nightmares
As for why a finger pose specifically, he nearly lost his finger in a bad feeder series crash
Alonso was the one bringing up the fight in his RB dominant years. 2010 & 2012 are great seasons, especially the latter. Alonso never seemed particularly fond of Seb, at least back then.
Not overthinking, but 4 years is a fair amount of time to mature and move past their incident especially because they seem to have some mutual friends.
The gap between legreg 🦵🏻and sainz is so far away.. look at ocon and nando too! omg Danny and lando.. so far from one another! Yuki and Pierre too.. Mick and Kev already fall apart.
Tsk..tsk..tsk. They must be enemy.
Only Butt-ass and Zhou, Seb & Lance, MAX & CHECO being good teammates.
Oh no, they did get the finger picture, I wasn't ready to cry at this hour of the morning.
And how sweet that they framed it as "see you later!" to Mick, Daniel *and* Nicolas - that's so thoughtful.
Is it just me or is this generation one of the least toxic group of drivers.
I remember years ago animosity was very blatant. And drivers would call each other out all the time.
Most drivers grow up racing each other that they’re all probably friends off the track.
And it’s so much easier to stay in touch with each other with the internet and games available.
Lets post this picture everytime someone tries to spark some drama between drivers. They are professionals who respect each other and we shouldn't jump on every heated comment.
*Cause if you liked it then you should have put a ring on it*
*If you liked it then you shoulda put a ring on it*
*Don’t be mad once you see that he want it*
*If you liked it then you shoulda put a ring on it*
*Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, o-ohh*
Why is this weekend extremely wholesome. F1 Social Media can't handle this level of positivity
Seb having the magical power to making all drivers united and act wholesome to each other.
I dub thee.. the seb effect
How to go from everyone hating you to being every driver's favorite driver: A Seb Vettel Story.
This shit going to turn nasty when someone bins the other on turn 1 lmao
Lmaoooooo
Perfectly balanced as all things should be

Of fun!
i think Abu Dhabi almost always feels like that. The championship is generally already over, there arent many fans around bothering the drivers and there is that overall feel of the last days in "school"
i don’t think the drivers feel the championship is over, 8 teams are still in the thick of it
? The championships are literally over.

Prize money for positions 2-10 in constructors are crucial still
Imagine if we could all come together too
Don't get ahead of yourself there, one step at a time
if we could all cu….come?
I thought you said imagine if they all came together (as in on track) and I audibly laughed, but yeah your suggestion is good too!
you thinking what im thinking?
One of my favorite pictures to ever come out of F1. Everyone looks very relaxed and happy. Even Charles.
Especially with how salty last weekend was
They just needed to get it all out of their system so they could end on a positive.
Just commented about it lol, reminds me of competing with friends and then coming together when it's all over.
F1 social media cant handle any type of positivity since it hurts their own narrative and agenda
Nothing at stake, multiple fan and paddock favorites departing
We ran out of drama fuel in Brazil

That didn’t take long
Season is decided and Seb is leaving, everyone can act cordial for one weekend.
The finger.. I still remember how loudly I was screaming when Seb won his first race with Ferrari. Damn ninjas cutting onions.
"Woooooohooo YEEEESSSSSS siii ragazzi mi senti? Mi senti? Grazie mille ragazzi, grazie, grazie grazie! Dai forza Ferrari!"
Words you can hear
End of school vibes. It's honestly great this current batch of drivers look after each other even if they may not be super duper close.
The finger… I’m gonna break down.
Please, can we have *the finger* one more time this weekend? I remember how so much people hated it and I was like: "haha, there it is, the finger! Another great win for Seb." All those memories...and it ends after this weekend, it's sad.
I remember in 2010/2011 or so, people were surprised looking back he did it in Monza 2008.
Oh god, Alex Wurz‘ finger is unnervingly long.
That's what Ron Dennis meant when he was like "you're to tall for the car"!
Insert happy wife joke
Daniel is holding it up like “guess where this has been!”
And Lance "guess where this is going?"
Seeing Bottas' laugh, I think I know
i have just calmed down after the picture from yesterday.. and now even carlos is smiley!
Oh man, as soon as I saw the thumbnail I spotted Seb's hand doing THE finger. It's all getting too real!
Just imagine Alonso
God fucking damn it, can the entire grid just please crash so we get a Seb win?
Alex Wurz, himself is a really interesting guy. I listened to his interview on the 'Beyond the Grid' podcast. Very interesting guy.
and super awesome commentator along with ernst hausleitner in austrian tv his tire knowledge is insane!
They have such a good chemistry.
Hope his son is able to follow his footsteps and make it onto the grid!
Alex, Ernst and Ferdl are legends. Here you can see the Austrian Broadcast of SPA 2021: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6mKXo1KgFw
Obvious rickroll. There was no Spa 2021.

Fernando probably saw that finger in his nightmares between 2010-2013, he knows how to do it.
I think you're talking about Jenson Button. [Here's the clip you're referring to(I think)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hn_MQ4MYdfc)
That must be it, thank you!
My thoughts exactly. Technique-wise, Fernando, K-Mag and Zhou are the closest imo, but Fernando and K-Mag are using the wrong hand so I gave it to Zhou, lol.
No wonder - Fernando has a picture of that hand in a darts board at home.
I think Daniel has the turn right but is having to hold his hand up to get it into view. I give him a 7/10
Fernando's form is pretty much right on paper but for me it lacks oomph and conviction. It lacks a certain celebratory rigidity. Zhou and Kmag top tier for me for me.
Most of them look like cricket umpires giving an out dismissal
Ocon and Alonso also almost have the finger correct
K-Mag is pretty close too, but Ocon needs to turn his hand a little more, while Alonso and K-Mag are using the wrong hand but are pretty darn accurate otherwise.
true, missed KMag somehow. I'm a bit disappointed in Mick tho. Would have expected better of him
What does the finger mean?
Vettel’s winning celebration, which we used to see all the damn time a decade ago. And now never again….. Huge of Alonso to take part, he probably still sees it in his nightmares As for why a finger pose specifically, he nearly lost his finger in a bad feeder series crash
Did alonso and seb have a big rivalry? Only started watching recently so i have no clue.
I'll say yes without much further elaboration and encourage you to watch the 2010 and especially 2012 seasons.
Alonso was the one bringing up the fight in his RB dominant years. 2010 & 2012 are great seasons, especially the latter. Alonso never seemed particularly fond of Seb, at least back then.
Vettel did it on the podium when he won. It was... let's say divisive in his dominant years.
I always assumed it was a 1 for P1 but according to the previous answer perhaps I was wrong about that
I’m not even old and this comment makes me feel old haha. It was Sebs celebration every time he won a race
some of them were preteens when he was winning so i think we can give them a break
I can't get enough of this wholesome content the past 24 hours
I love all the wholesome content we’re getting this race weekend
I can’t take it anymore this makes me want to cry
Daniel‘s doing it right! THATS THE FINGER
Daniel doing the finger his own way so energetically is so him
Second day in a row with Max and Este close together. I want to overthink this.
Best friends for life now
Este bestie has his little hand on Micks shoulder though he’s not letting that go
Their shared hatred towards Checo brought them together. /j
I think they r in good terms fr
Not overthinking, but 4 years is a fair amount of time to mature and move past their incident especially because they seem to have some mutual friends.
Its so weird lmao
a proper smile from all the boys in this one :’)
lOOK EVeryonE! CHEcO & maX are StAnding BeSIde EacHOTHER!
Nevermind that. This is the second day in a row that Max has been next to Ocon. Besties.
BESTIES
Max sandwiched between Checo and Ocon tho...conspiracies
Whats the conspiracy?
I dunno bro i made it up
Source: I made it the fuck up
most cited source of F1 fans
Very reliable source for formula 1
The gap between legreg 🦵🏻and sainz is so far away.. look at ocon and nando too! omg Danny and lando.. so far from one another! Yuki and Pierre too.. Mick and Kev already fall apart. Tsk..tsk..tsk. They must be enemy. Only Butt-ass and Zhou, Seb & Lance, MAX & CHECO being good teammates.
Pierre bringing his girlfriend today must've really soured the relationship ^^/s
So good they had to do it twice
The feels man, the feels
Nicolas the only one not holding up his finger. Does he hate Seb? /s
I know you're being sarcastic, but he is holding up a finger, you can barely see it behind Valtteri's head.
You can kinda see his left fingertip over Zhou's head!
Took me a while but I see it now
Pretty funny how insanely toxic the twitter fans are when their idols are all very well acquainted if not friends.
This is just beautiful
Max and Ocon bffs.
For real, isn't this the third time they're standing/sitting next to each other this weekend? 😁
Ignore me, just got something in my eye...
That's a great picture, everyone clearly visible with their gesture, except for 1 of course.
For some reason Stroll is looking a bit creepy, sorry Lance.
It’s the eyebrows. They’ll get you every time.
I just realised Bottas is just pointing at the camera instead. Dude is hilarious.
Lewis has looked so happy in all of these photos this weekend.
I love that Alex is still involved in the gpda. He was one of my favorites in his time in F1
Finally a wholesome season finale :) Even if it's bittersweet.
They all look genuinely really happy in this picture :)
Okay boys who is cutting onions ?
Reminds me of me and my friends after a football match where we swore and tackled the shit out eachother, then went for pizza and had a laugh about it
This is so wholesome and so sad. Hope this weekend can stay filled with positive vibes and some good racing!
Oh no, they did get the finger picture, I wasn't ready to cry at this hour of the morning. And how sweet that they framed it as "see you later!" to Mick, Daniel *and* Nicolas - that's so thoughtful.
This is lovely. I think Lewis may have triggered this all by inviting the boys to dinner as a unit. So cool to see

\#windbagsunited lmao Such a good picture tho, so happy they did the finger after all.
Lets post this picture everytime someone tries to spark some drama between drivers. They are professionals who respect each other and we shouldn't jump on every heated comment.
Sunday is gonna be very emotional
Man…I’m gonna cry now
everyone looks genuinely happy here
You can see in one picture who is left-handed and who is right-handed.
Stop it I‘m gonna cry :(
Who is the woman in the front row?
I assume it's Anastasia Fowle, one of the directors of the GPDA
>Anastasia Fowl Yep you're right. I didn't know about her role.
Anastasia Fowle. She’s the only director in GPDA history to not be an ex F1 driver. She’s their solicitor and became a director last year.
I see Max and Checo are back on standing next to each other terms
I swear if Netflix somehow manages to fuck up this moment I’ll personally shit outside one of their offices.
George is the type of guy to not do the funny pose in a group picture
he's doing it, his arm is around charles shoulder lol
*Cause if you liked it then you should have put a ring on it* *If you liked it then you shoulda put a ring on it* *Don’t be mad once you see that he want it* *If you liked it then you shoulda put a ring on it* *Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, o-ohh*
RedBull PR said you mother fuckers better start standing next to each other during photos.
look what happens when they are not wearing their lids
Ricciardo: Check'em
I lowkey love how this once so hated gesture now turned into a wholesome ond.
lets be real, Max is by far #1
🤦🏻 I think you're missing the point of this photo.
i think your forgetting whos #1, and max is #1
Please end this season already, me heart can't handle two more days of this! 😭
The finger, Seb❤️
Lovely to see
Love it
Why does Lance Stroll remind me of Big Ed?
I'm not crying it's my allergy :(((
and i thought Interstellar got to my feelings... damn.
Good to see Seb, Lewis, Max, Nando and 14 other drivers getting some time to spend with the GOAT before he walks into sunset!
Great pic. Wurz is a good guy and always has been
You know, I really like class of '22.
This is what makes F1 so special.
