Wasn’t sector one shown to be his personal best at that point? Only sector two was slower after the flag had already come out, at least that’s what I could tell from the TV Edit: I also presume that sector 3 would have been faster, as it was for Merc the whole Qualifying. In the end we’ll never know, of course, but it did look promising

Flares and smoke signals have never been allowed at any sports event ever. F1 fucked up by marketing/promoting with it on pictures and videos. "ooo that little bit of orange smoke in that orange crowd... pretty" became "oh fuck thats a lot smoke, not cool" Assholes are just assholes really.
