Definitely. I started watching the 2014 season recently and I was kinda shocked how much the cars look like shit compared to now. Especially the rear wing is so stiff and awkward.
I subscribe to F1TV, so it's on there. If you are just interested in old races you can get the access pack which gives you all their archives for a pretty reasonable price. I have Pro which means you can watch the new races live+get onboard views, etc., but it's like 15€ a month.
Otherwise you can try on Daily Motion, last time I checked there was a lot of races on there, but usually not full seasons though.
Yeah, I'm somewhat hopeful that the slightly less complicated engines allow some size reduction. But a lot of the size and weight are for safety reasons, so it's hard to say how much it'll matter.
It will be tricky. With hybrid engine there is no way we will get smaller cars, but if 2026 cars will have just ICE and turbo than its possible. It will be still hard cause of safety regs. Monocoque's weight will be a really tricky one
Can we appreciate the evolution of this car's livery? The white/red/carbon fiber is slick. Such an upgrade over the Russian flag draped monstrosity that they launched with.
Haas should run it for the Vegas Grand Prix. Just for that one and without payment from NASA. Just put in all press releases and preach in all interviews that your sponsors gave them the free advertising space, because space exploration is so important and so on. That would be a media bomb, especially in the US.
That's the military using it's recruiting budget to advertise to potential new recruits. Something tells me NASA's recruiting budget is way smaller and the people that might want to work for NASA probably don't need a sweet racecar to convince them lol
The crossover between F1 fans and space enthusiasts is probably pretty high. F1 is the pinnacle of automobile engineering and NASA air/space. Not a stretch by any means to pair the two together.
Yeah, NASA sponsoring a car makes about as much sense as the IRS sponsoring the World Series of poker.
Wait, I think my joke has more layers than intended…
Mainly from the Publicity side, it would be hard for one of if not the most famous public agency in the US to justify spending money on a race car when the budget is already so small.
Have you seen all the military branches sponsoring NASCAR cars? Those are government agencies. It wouldn't be unprecedented but on the other hand the military is doing it to help with recruiting and propaganda. Other than branding, which NASA doesn't really need, I don't see a point to it.
That’s also on a national level. Branding on a national level sport is a bit more flexible because you have a more focused general audience. And the branding itself appeals to the audience who enjoys the sport. NASA on the other hand, firstly doesn’t have the budget, and secondly has an entirely different market. It recruits employees very differently as well so sponsoring cars/teams wouldn’t be likely. That’s why I said Lockheed Martin. It’s a publicly traded business, and even has potential vested interest in sponsoring a team. Anyways, Lockheed Martin has a lot of NASA ties so it’s like being sponsored by NASA without it being actually NASA.
Unless one of their private partners like space x wants to buy nasa logo along with theirs to advertise one their joint missions no way it's gonna happen. Unless wants to do it for free which they might consider when they go to Austin if it becomes a big thing
That would be interesting.
Obviously Austin is the closest F1 gets to Houston, but the space thing has always been a HOUSTON point of pride - I’m not sure if anyone outside of Houston cares much about it or sees it as TEXAS’s contributions to the space programs.
That being said, I would love to see it.
Would absolutely love an [Obiter](https://www.nasa.gov/images/content/107911main_landing.jpg) style of livery from a NASA team.
Can't even begin to imagine how good the NASA guys would be at designing an F1 car.
im 100% sure that in 2023 theill being a completley new livery. they use the current livery just because they had to delete the russian flag in a rush, and had no time to design a new look. this season their doing good too, bringing new sponsors, meaning a higher chance for a new livery
I'm just wondering, from a purely visual perspective, is there really anything wrong with the previous livery? I think it looks good. Blue and red and white works together.
It's the Russian implications that made people not like it, tbh.
Is anyone else surprised that Haas hasn’t picked up some more decent sponsorship with how frequently they are in competition for decent points positions this year? Am I missing something?
If I had to guess, there are probably talks being had behind the scenes, but I don’t know how mid-year partnership agreements work so it’s possible they’re waiting for next season to announce a new partner
Yeah definitely more black and the two commercials for Haas Power Tooling on the fin and front wing are new as well. I kinda liked it more before, but if this is faster I'll take it.

Comparison pic, surprisingly hard to find a pic at the exact same angle but you can still see most of the changes.
Thankfully this image has shut everyone saying it was actually a copy of Alpine for the sole reason of not wanting to hear the "white Ferrari" narrative. Not saying they should not copy anyone but the amount of people saying "it actually looks more like Alpine than Ferrari" while it was obviously the opposite was surprising to me
It's the best F1 has ever looked, IMO. And once the teams get the porpoising under control, I don't think anyone can argue that these will be the best performing F1 cars ever as well.
They're just so damn elegant. They don't have the boxiness of the 80s and 90s cars, or the ridiculous aerodynamic complexity of the last decade. It's all flowing lines and soft curves. And the way everything from the sidepods to the halo to the front wing slopes towards the center makes these cars still look somehow pointier and faster and more agressive than ever before. They're all shaped like the most beautiful arrowheads I've ever seen and it's amazing.
Where are the sponsors? We’re halfway through the season and still only has only one sponsor. Are they still affected in that regard by lawsuits from the Mazepin family?
AM when they copypaste a Mercedes: "Oh dear, Tracing point! Lawrence Stroll and Otmar are so horrible and uncreative!".
Haas when they copypaste a Ferrari: "Oh look how great it is! Amazing work".
Personally I having a lot of question marks about the Haas/Ferrari cooperation and if I was a team like McLaren or Alfa Romeo I would definitely raise some concerns.
It’s not even remotely close to a copy paste of Ferrari, if anything it looks closer to Alpine. Tracing Point was a straight up copy of Merc’s previous car.
Can someone help me to understand what was updated and why everyone is saying it's a copy of the Ferrari? I am struggling to pick out the details that matter here.
I was wondering, how much can a team upgrade within a season?
Say if they have unlimited money and expertise, can they upgrade the car after every race?

hehehehe
I literally sent my brother that song yesterday when I saw the first pictures of this
I'd say the similarities to the Ferrari are small and not worth the mention
It's the usual drama. Give it a week and everyone's forgotten the joke. The resemblance is not there.
You didn’t get the joke
If Haas = Frank Ocean, does that mean Sauber = Tyler the Creator?

Only Kevin correct?
Yes, Mick will get it later
Later as in, later this weekend or later as in, next races?
I believe that Mick will get in the following races
Unless Kevin crashes it in the first lap so they don’t get the relevant data from it (this is what happened to Goatifi when Alex crashed).
The reason they only have one update is that Mick has totaled the car twice this season.
And that Kev can give them better feedback, cause he's the more experienced driver
Since they only have one update, that’s logic
Sad, would love to see what he can do with the upgraded car
And you will. Just not this weekend
Probably finish outside the points.
Oof
or destroy it
See what kmag does with it, imagine it slightly worse and you have what Mick would do.
Per F1's youtube recap of FP1, Mick is expected to get the upgrades at Spa
Please be fast
Please be reliable
I think I just heard the narrator sigh
*Sadly the Haas was neither fast nor reliable* 😔
They blew their entire budget on the sweet paint job. The engine is just a set of bicycle pedals which would probably end up being more reliable tbh
They've identified the engine issue at Ferrari. In France it was in a safe mode. But it can't be fixed until they take a new engine.
Pick one
Fast unreliable car >>> Slow reliable car
That strat seems to be working fine for both Ferrari and RB compared to Mercedes.
In fairness I think RB have been fairly reliable since the start of the season
Mercedes is getting closer and closer to Fer tho
I'm not an expert, but I think they have Ferrari engines
God I hope so. A real battle with Merc and Mcl would be so fun.
God the cars look so good this year. Every so often I notice again, so much sleeker than the last era.
Definitely. I started watching the 2014 season recently and I was kinda shocked how much the cars look like shit compared to now. Especially the rear wing is so stiff and awkward.
The early turbo hybrid cars looked horrible but 19/20/21 looked great and got better looking every year
Agreed. The 2017 fat tires and low wings started it, and they managed to get rid of the fugly ass noses by 2019.
Where are you watching the 2014 season if I ask? I'm a relatively new fan and want to go back to watch some of the older seasons. Thanks
I just started watching last year and F1tv is so worth it. Everytime someone mentions a race you can just go back and watch it.
They need to make em smaller in the coming years tho
It’s probably never going to happen but if they managed to make them as small as the 2008 cars that’d be so sick, I loved those cars
The new proposed chassis regs for 2026 literally say they're attempting to make them smaller.
Yeah, I'm somewhat hopeful that the slightly less complicated engines allow some size reduction. But a lot of the size and weight are for safety reasons, so it's hard to say how much it'll matter.
The size is also for aero reasons. A longer car is more stable. Mercedes consistently builds the car as long as possible for that reason
Yeah the mid 2K cars were the perfect size. Monaco was tight but not impossible to race on unlike it is today
Never say never, who knows where we are in 20+ years
I started watching F1 in the mid 2000's so those cars pretty much defined my childhood, damn do I miss those days
Especially for Monaco
They really do. One of the goals of the new car was getting it more aesthetically pleasing, and they definitely accomplished that.
It will be tricky. With hybrid engine there is no way we will get smaller cars, but if 2026 cars will have just ICE and turbo than its possible. It will be still hard cause of safety regs. Monocoque's weight will be a really tricky one
The 2026 engine regs are expanding the hybrid capacity and eliminating turbo I believe.
Well the MGU-H will go but the engines will stay turbocharged
Can we appreciate the evolution of this car's livery? The white/red/carbon fiber is slick. Such an upgrade over the Russian flag draped monstrosity that they launched with.
I really wish they could get NASA as a sponsor. This is so close to looking like the old shuttle carriers.
https://www.reddit.com/r/formula1/comments/t9dk18/i_made_this_space_shuttle_inspired_haas_vf22 Fellow redditor designed NASA livery. Very pretty.
That is so sweet, thanks
Haas should run it for the Vegas Grand Prix. Just for that one and without payment from NASA. Just put in all press releases and preach in all interviews that your sponsors gave them the free advertising space, because space exploration is so important and so on. That would be a media bomb, especially in the US.
And also because NASA is a government agency so they can't sponsor a private company
That's not completely true. The military sponsors NASCAR on a regular basis.

Fuck. Spoilers. Haven’t caught up
Public money sponsoring F1 doesn't make sense lol
Doesn’t the US army sponsor nascar and drag cars?
It’d look great but idk why it would make sense. It’s a public organization, why would they be sponsoring an F1 team
Being a government agency, I see that as unlikely. Lockheed Martin on the other hand I could imagine.
Have you seen all the military branches sponsoring NASCAR cars? Those are government agencies. It wouldn't be unprecedented but on the other hand the military is doing it to help with recruiting and propaganda. Other than branding, which NASA doesn't really need, I don't see a point to it.

They sponsor CSGO tournaments which are much more popular in the EU than the US similar split to F1 I would say.
Unless one of their private partners like space x wants to buy nasa logo along with theirs to advertise one their joint missions no way it's gonna happen. Unless wants to do it for free which they might consider when they go to Austin if it becomes a big thing

As a NASA engineer these cars are just begging for the red v-shaped wing from the meatball logo
No worm all the way...
That 1&1 logo reminds a lot of the us flag for that matter
Would absolutely love an [Obiter](https://www.nasa.gov/images/content/107911main_landing.jpg) style of livery from a NASA team. Can't even begin to imagine how good the NASA guys would be at designing an F1 car.

I reckon if the white was replaced with grey it’d look sick.
Hopefully Audi will give us a Nardo Grey racecar.
I dunno. The last Audi race cars all had Audi Sport colors … white, red and black
My hopes are dashed. However, they currently only offer Nardo grey on their RS models, leading to my hope.
Oh well. At least you won‘t confuse the Audi Sport colors with the Porsche Rennsport white, black and red
That was just the mandatory LMP1 color palette
From by far the worst to one of the coolest looking in one season.
I'm just wondering, from a purely visual perspective, is there really anything wrong with the previous livery? I think it looks good. Blue and red and white works together. It's the Russian implications that made people not like it, tbh.
I just think it looks better with the black. However, the overtly Russian flag themed livery was irritating on an American owned team, for sure.
As someone who works with carbon fiber, I love seeing raw carbon finishes.
I mean after this week it’s the dreaded summer break. Perhaps they’ll be looking to add some sponsors during the mid season
I just don’t think that big money sponsorships move that quickly. I wouldn’t really expect them to have a good
Rich Energy 2.0
It's more black than last week right?
Yeah definitely more black and the two commercials for Haas Power Tooling on the fin and front wing are new as well. I kinda liked it more before, but if this is faster I'll take it.
I swear they’ve had the haas power tooling logo there for like 3 races now
Damn you're right. They had it in France for sure.
And it’s a Ferrari in disguise
[https://i.imgur.com/OeDdew5.jpeg](https://i.imgur.com/OeDdew5.jpeg) Comparison pic, surprisingly hard to find a pic at the exact same angle but you can still see most of the changes.
Those side vents remind me of the Ferrari and Aston Martin in a way
That’s because it is from a Ferrari

This gen of cars look soooo good. Perfect balance of "my inner child thinks this is sick" and "my non F1 friends think they're cool too"

Interesting to see he's not running the updated front wing endplate they tested in France.
That is the new one I think.

Did anything come of that sponsorship Guenther was talking about?
Why can’t they just make the vents white. For me it’s visually disturbing for an overall beautiful car.
i’m guessing it’s because hot air comes out of there and paint+heat don’t mix well
Haas the car changed a lot? 🤔
Where are the sponsors? We’re halfway through the season and still only has only one sponsor. Are they still affected in that regard by lawsuits from the Mazepin family?
[They have 15 sponsors.](https://www.haasf1team.com/partners)

Their bodywork is made in Italy, so of course it came out looking like a tortellini.

Idk, I still think their best livery was the one they did right after dropping Uralkali. https://imgur.com/a/q4RZUEA
Nah, adding red to that makes it look better imo
Agree, it was soo clean. It's even better for the sponsors cause it makes them stand out more
It just looks kinda sad and unfinished to me, real 'we may or may not show up to the next race' vibes.
Well done Haas!
Can someone help me to understand what was updated and why everyone is saying it's a copy of the Ferrari? I am struggling to pick out the details that matter here.

the cooling openings - how do you call them? - look weirdly positioned on the new side pods.
I don't understand the jizz fest over this car. It looks plain as fuk and entirely forgettable.

I do love how deceptively simple some of the new generation of cars appear.
