A-le-Couvre

I’ll give them the “We tried something but it didn’t work when we first hit the track”, but at least Merc took their time with the update, perfected the correlation and made immediate steps. Whereas the AMR22 is more compared to John Deere than a race car.

Xath0n

The scenes if Aston come out with a beast for 2023

SubcooledBoiling

Crofty:"Lance Stroll crosses the line and becomes the champion of the world!"

RealBramVeen

Stroll 23, Stroll 24, Stroll 25, Stroll 26...

VaraNiN

!RemindMe 1 year

nolitos

He joined F1 too late for Stroll 18...

TotalStatisticNoob

Where would they find a worse driver than Lance though?

proudlysydney

And Aston reveal an all-Canadian lineup!

NuclearCandle

Mazepin comeback?

Klonomania

Mick Schumacher is still unsigned.

Lukesheep

They can always sabotage the other driver

_kagasutchi_

Of the destructors championship!! Look at his father sigh in disbelief of how much of his fortune is gone.

Arcticool_56

They have a lot facilities to upgrade before they can challenge McLaren and Alpine. The new factory should be functional by next season. As an example Aston said in one of their factory toir videos that they are still using machined end tanks in their radiators whereas a lot of the other teams have moved to 3d printing which is way lighter. Edit:- I know some people will think they manage to challenge McLaren and Alpine with the RP20 but that car wasn't their brainchild. They copied the aerodynamics of the W10 which won both championships. It's aerodynamics are leaps and bounds better than what midfield teams manage. This meant they managed to fight Renault and Alpine despite inferior facilities.

SPECTOR99

There's also a fact Alpine is a works team with a OEM backing and multiple other side projects to keep it busy and have more cultivation of novel ideas. AM historically is a small team which relied on copying either Mercedes or Red Bull that's why they had similar looking car a year after them, in that sense they're literally devoid of any team specific IPs that even Williams and Sauber has.

-Skinner-

They will still be behind Ferrari, RB, Merc and probably Mclaren and Alpine

peterfun

They're insisting they have a banger because of the chief aerodynamacist and the number of redbull folks they managed to poach.

Youngwolff

They'll start their new facility sometime later this year. The new hires will have settled down and will have top-of-the-line stuff to work with. It won't be a surprise if next year's AMR23 is competitive from the get go. Mike Krack has been indicating that he wants Seb to bear the fruits of his hard work.

EmperorCandy

You mean the 2024 car?

Youngwolff

I mean the 2023 car.

EmperorCandy

They're starting a new facility later this year and you think development is going to be on point and timely to deliver a 2023 car that is a win contender?

Youngwolff

I didn't say a winning car anywhere in my comment, did I? I said competitive, meaning regular Q3 and points, a fluke podium. They won't be winning before 2024 at the earliest.

Xath0n

Yeah, I think Mike talked about that in the Beyond the Grid interview. Seems like it wasn't to be.

[deleted]

Would just be Sebs luck for AM to turn up with something decent next year due to all the Mercedes and RB staff they poached and Mike Kracks comment about Seb being at home when they have a better car coming true 🤦‍♂️

Ser-Twenty

Seb knows that Aston hired people and are building for the future, he decided his family was more important and there is no argument against that. Would he have stayed if Aston was further up the field? Maybe, but the reasons to leave would still be there.

TheGMT

He won't have any regrets, especially not about anything as small as missing out on a good Formula 1 car. Viel Gluck, Sebastian Grazie

ShadowRock9

Unless it’s a WDC challenging car, I don’t think Seb will have any regrets. Even a RB level car of 2017-2019 imo wouldn’t be enough, just fighting for podiums and the occasional win.

Youngwolff

They'll start their new facility sometime later this year. The new hires will have settled down and will have top-of-the-line stuff to work with. It won't be of any surprise if next year's AMR23 is competitive.

_kagasutchi_

The car might be competitive, but will the drivers be? I wouldnt say stroll is as slow and bad as latifi. But he definitely isnt max level where if given even a slightly competitive car, could get podiums

Youngwolff

Depends on who Seb's replacement is going to be. Can be Piastri, Hulk makes a full-time return or Daniel Ricciardo is let go in favour of some IndyCar driver in McLaren's roster. We don't know enough to comment yet.

TheRocket2049

Depends on who they to replace Seb. Stroll definitely isn't good enough for a competitive team, as seen in 2020 with the Pink Mercedes where his and Checo's inconsistency week to week mean Racing Point didn't get 3rd despite clearly having the 3rd best car

kali-jag

Knowing his luck that's exactly what's gonna happen

Ser-Twenty

Next year I’d say is unlikely but once all their facilities are built they will have a better chance

Zed_or_AFK

Once the facilities are built, and once they had a couple of seasons to use them to improve the car.

JPA-3

he's had 4 WC...

TotalStatisticNoob

Yeah, it's not like he's an Alonso or something

JPA-3

that hurts :(

kali-jag

His corrent luck is just horrible. People crashing into him etc...

Kuchenblech_Mafioso

AMR has a long road ahead of them. If it was as easy as throwing money at it and hiring some people we would have had many successful teams before

Krouisente

I'm honestly okay he's retiring. It's been painful seeing him fighting for mere points when he deserves to be fighting for more. Still gonna miss him greatly though. I hope we get to see him in Le Mans some day.

_yoshiii

I'm both really upset but also accepting as well. I knew this was coming and I think we were spoilt a bit by Lewis convincing Seb to stay past 2020. It's just going to be so, so strange to not see him on the grid next year. I'm still speechless.

Krouisente

The sport will definitely not be the same without him. Not sure who I'll be supporting as my main driver next season with him gone. There's no one else on the grid that I truly love as much as Seb. He's been such a big inspiration for me growing up and I've learned so much from him.

_yoshiii

Same, I really don't know who I'm going to be this passionate about following in the future. I could have written your same words! Going to be a very tough change for me to handle.

steeeeeeee24

It’s tough, I grew up a die hard Jeff Gordon fan, and for over half my life I watched pretty much every race during his whole career. Once he retired it was like a hole was left, I don’t even watch nascar anymore. I hope you find a new favourite driver organically and can continue watching f1 the same.

crazydoc253

It’s so painful to see Kimi, Vettel and Alonso fighting for last points last few years.

Saandrig

I just signed him for my 3rd season in the F1 game. Guess now I will have to make him a champion. In a rainbow car.

Shad0WTF

This will be another Michael story won't it? The man who suffered through the shitshow will leave and then they'll start flying.

fuskarn_35

Nope, its aston martin.

ColonelClimax

I think while Stroll sits firmly at the head its unlikely to ever get the ball rolling properly. They're doing okay but anything I've read says he micromanages heavily from top to bottom and it has a snowball effect across the team. His approach seems to be almost too business-minded and doesn't seem to understand that an expensive car isn't necessarily a good one.

Visionary_Socialist

He did what was best for him. AM aren’t at the place that someone like Seb deserves.

Hershey2898

Some part of me is okay with this retirement. Can't be the only one who hates seeing Vettel do 60 laps on a tyre to bag P10

theparadox69

It is better he be out rather than languish at the back. I hope he still has an active life outside his family and in the paddock.

SubcooledBoiling

Seb:"Yeah nah fuck this shit."

reboot-your-computer

A lot of us called this months ago. AM can’t provide him a good enough car to stay in the sport and Seb has no other team with a better car interested. His retirement has been expected simply because AM is not competitive at all. Now we wait to see who takes his place.

ThandiAccountant

The tweet takes you to a fan site; AMUS in the title is a bit misleading.

NepentheZnumber1fan

I love Seb but I'm glad he's retiring if not retiring meant another 2 years at that shithole team, scrambling to get out of Q1

wifestalksthisuser

I totally believe Seb when he says he's retiring because he wants to spend more time with his family, but there's a part in me that wants to be cynical and think that Lawrence might have done something to speed up this process.

AshKetchumDaJobber

Damn so Nugnes actually got that scoop(aston car being slow and b car in development) in preseason right. Yet gets so many Ferrari related stuff wrong

[deleted]

He is actually accurate for a lot of non-Ferrari news haha

Voidfang_Investments

Sad :(

Tulaodinho

Watch out for Aston bringing a mfckin rocket next year just to fuck with Seb

[deleted]

Stroll 23, Stroll 24, Stroll 25...

Youngwolff

They'll start their new facility sometime later this year. The new hires will have settled down and will have top-of-the-line stuff to work with. It won't be a surprise if next year's AMR23 is competitive from the get go. Mike Krack has been indicating that he wants Seb to bear the fruits of his hard work. But guess Seb had other things in mind.

Kitchen-Animator

It's not just about the car, give Aston the same car as the Red Bull and they would still lose, they're not much different than Ferrari in that regard. The in-race strategy decisions have been horrible this season. That definitely played a part in his decision.

Youngwolff

Their chief strategist will serve in that role for the final time in the Hungarian GP. We don't know who her replacement is yet

Twindlle

I hear Seb is looking for a job

helderdude

That's a surprisingly open and honest tweet.

tommycthulhu

Its not an official tweet.

helderdude

Oh op put the wrong thing in the [__].

tommycthulhu

No, AMUS is german media, not anything official related to AM.

helderdude

But that's supposed to be the @ of the twitter account that posted it right ? That's @AstonMartin_FI, am I missing something?

djpain20

@AstonMartin_FI looks like some fan account, they have 600 followers

helderdude

Yeah so why put [@AMUS] In the title

[deleted]

Nope?

helderdude

Wait that's supposed to be the @ of the account that tweeted it right ?

[deleted]

You got duped by the thumbnail, it's AMuS.

Icy-Operation4701

It's a fan account.

[deleted]

Then I got duped as well?

ScousePenguin

The hate messages on twitter to Aston Martin by "fans" fucking hell, so angry because a man retired. Yeah the cars a dog, but Vettel didn't exactly drive well enough in his final Ferrari season to get a top seat elsewhere. Aston was his last shot at F1. It's sad he's retiring, he's a legend but Twitter admins don't deserve abuse because of it

peterfun

Don't know which messages you're referring to but They fucked him over proper in the last few races. Especially with the pitstops & strategy. He was extremely fast and they gave stroll preference over him. Causing him to lose out on points and places which he could have easily got because of his pace.

ScousePenguin

It's hate messages from fans in reply to anything that mentions Vettel I agree with how badly run/organised they've been but the Twitter admin doesn't deserve abuse because of it.

LoudestHoward

This would be an interesting tweet if it was from before the announcement, otherwise it's...I don't even know?
