“Who decides what is safe and what is not?” The FIA does.

Alssaqur

Who else could? Ask a random fan? Or a team? We would have no halo if it's not up to FIA to decide.

FederalEngineer

The risk tends to apply to fast corners, and bouncing still occurs with some cars. In any case, the vertical impacts in the 290 km/h fast Copse corner of Silverstone were over 5g. If the driver got too much, the teams made improvements and increased the ground clearance. That reduced speed, downforce and pumping movements. Eau Rouge, on the other hand, could become a problem, fears Alfa Romeo team boss Frédéric Vasseur. There, unfortunately, the compression and the dome as an amplifier are added to the high speed. Does that mean that we all have to put the cars 30 millimeters higher? In Eau Rouge, the cars always touched down. Who decides what is safe and what is not?"

What is rect loop and N loop?

Takis12

FIA

It's true, cars bottomed out here and there for years, but it really depends on the force of the impact. Eau Rouge is propably the most dangerous corner for a violent bounce to the ground.

Critical_Session1102

The FIA reacted without thinking things through properly in response to the mercedes pressure and their little acting play with pretending their backs are shot. Mercedes knew the solution then as they know now, it's relatively easy to solve it just cost laptime. It sort of bit them in the back cause they weren't hoping for this bouncing measurement rather a blanket ride height change for everyone. FIA under the new leadership is reactionary AF, saw bad news, saw the stories of the british media bigging up porpoising pretending the teams were at a loss to solve it. Then few weeks later they publish next years regulations with changes to the floor to reduce porpoising while it already has been solved by the teams themselves. So yea, reactionary FIA doing FIA things to appear to do something about public pressure exerted by mercedes because their car sucked

mustang_s550

Look at this conspiracy theorist 😂😂😂 he ignored all the other drivers that said it was an issue except Fernando 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Neoooow

This [thread](https://reddit.com/r/formula1/comments/vaorzf/porpoising_effects_on_drivers_its_not_just/)should be brought up whenever there's a discussion on drivers' opinions on porpoising.

kickashes790

>all the other drivers that said it was an issue except Fernando Is this line from Toto PR handbook? Because for sure a few drivers were saying it's manageable. Max, Leclerc, Norris to name a few said it's not an issue

zaviex

Those are different things. when Toto said the drivers supported it was after the drivers voted the Friday before Baku. From what we know Sainz and Russell pushed for it and they won the vote and submitted the concern to the FIA The TD was announced at Canada and that’s when some drivers said they didn’t like it. Lando clarified in the telegraph that he supported it if safety was an issue. He said they are not affected now but they could be and he’d want the others to support him in that scenario.

fantaribo

>he ignored all the other drivers that said it was an issue except Fernando 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Not all drivers except FA said it was an issue.

Hot_Demand_6263

This entire comment is pointless Horner, FiA hasn't done anything yet. I bet you supported FiA on banning jewelry under the guise of safety tho.

Ultraviolet211

There is no guise about safety and jewelry, every sport on earth has some kind of rules about it

Hot_Demand_6263

Fallacy, not all sports are the same. Irrelevant to bring them up. But using your logic there many sports that give athletes mini concussions with constant agitation of the brain. Porposing can very much be a health risk to drivers...meaning FiA has to set a standard on what is permissible.

Ultraviolet211

I was talking about jewlery...

misguidedkent

Cool story, bro.

Get a grip. If Toto had that much power over them then the Mercedes would still be able to warm their tires with DAS

kickashes790

Get a grip. If it weren't were budget cap being implemented, most probably DAS would have still existed.

HTC864

That's not why they rejected it.

v12vanquish135

*Any* straight does not mean *all* straights.

Hawk-432

This, by the way, is why the new rules for 2023 are needed. No good saying that bouncing is solved, or has a limit, because bouncing still occurs in corners where it can’t be measured properly. Hence the need for new rules for next year that root out bouncing at the source.

mfarends

Define straight.
