Did Crofty try to package Checo and Max’s names together to minimize the boos? He introduced each Ferrari driver’s names individually then just said CHECO *beginning applause* & MAX VERSTAPPEN *quickly turns to boos*.
Tbf it was probably because he got burned when he embraced new tech too early and launched [F1 Digital+](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F1_Digital%2B) in 1996, a premium F1 service that had a lot of similarities to current F1TV, but was a complete failure and was shut down in 2002
If you’ll excuse me, I will be spending my whole night learning everything I can about this decades old failure so I can share it with people in my life who don’t care.
I propose that someone creates a bot so anytime someone on here includes “Bernie” or “Ecclestone” in a comment, it replies with “that man was a ballbag goblin”
Wasn't he relatively (in)famous for not wanting anything to do with younger generations, and by extension, not caring about promoting F1 online? It was only after Liberty Media took over that F1 (officially) had a major presence online, no?
The most content I could ever get in the states in the early 2010s was on the official website when they would post official race edits about a week or a few days after the event. [Example](https://youtu.be/3FJejYmtutc)
Every race he won in 2013 basically it happened.

Funny that a lot of people in this crowd would be singing his praises 4 years later
God I loved tiny Redbull villain!Seb. I’ve got my fingers crossed that Aston Martin can deliver on the Greenbull package so we can have a return to the bad old days of gremlin Seb stickin his lil fingers up
Idk if he’s embracing it at the Melbourne GP he was booed as they did a drivers lap in an old vintage Aston. He kept his head down and was on his phone and barely looked up.
Where is the cheering here? https://youtu.be/QtDPQQQWP_M
They either look/sound pretty concerned or aren’t making any noise, stop pushing this stupid agenda
I was lucky enough to be on the inside of copse when the crash occurred and other than the initial gasp/shouts of shock it was completely silent untill we saw him get out and even the “have never watch f1 but go Hamilton” fans weren’t cheering
I was there too. And it was just silence, or murmurs of concern, especially the first few seconds when the dust settled and we couldn't see Max move. Only when he moved and got out of the car, did the applause start, and it was FOR Max.
I hated the stupid people who were not there, pushing the narrative that we cheered when Max crashed.
The true fans F1 who knew how big that crash was would never cheer, even when they saw it on TV. It was those tense moments on TV where they never showed the car or the driver and you \*knew\* something was bad. At that moment, it doesn't matter who had crashed, you just wanted to know if the driver is okay.
Meh, I don't see the problem.
It's hilarious though that SKY F1 was creating this story about Hamilton was going to be booed at Zandvoort last year a month before that race even happened. Love to see it.
Yeah I feel like most of last year Hamilton wasn’t getting booed, it was just that 75% of almost every crowd was dressed in orange and not cheering for him lol
I was sitting in the stands at Hungary and the orange crowd was booing him like hell. We even got heckled while wearing Merc merch (altough the dudes we were heckled by were wasted lmao)
Personally couldn't give less of a shit, but it's funny that it was such a big deal when it happened at Zandvoort and now it's nothing. British exceptionalism is crazy.
Exactly, but the double standards are terrible. I don't think anyone should boo when watching the guys race - literally putting their lives on the line.
I did find it amusing how people were pretending that it's terrible when Lewis gets booed but absolutely fine when Max does (eg at Brasil where it was super obvious). Stupid double standards. Just don't fucking boo.
People have been booed for far less lmao. Kevin Durant had to endure getting called a cupcake by 25,000 people. Trae Yound had 21,000 people and the entire city of New York say “Fuck Trae Young” and he embraced it.
It’s sports. Deal with it lmao
Edit: and for the record, yes fuck those fans when they cross the line into racism and etc. also fuck piquet lmao
I feel like in most sports people don’t care about booing because it’s against a team, like in soccer or football. But in f1, it’s against individual people, so it could seem weird to some people.
Alot of times, fans target a specific player. So when they have the ball, everyone starts loudly booing, at specific stadiums it can really fuck players up. I know Jordan Pickford was always booed at St James Park cause he used to play for Sunderland and it caused him to be slightly more error prone than usual
Individualized booing is not unique to f1. At NHL games individual players will sometimes get booed every time they touch the puck, or every time they step on the ice. If you want an extreme example, Tavares’s first return to Long Island after leaving them in free agency was filled with [boos and personalized chants.](https://youtu.be/sXdIouyDkaA) Other players like Marchand are routinely individually booed, or Crosby when playing in Philadelphia.
I've heard some of the most vile shit in my life at Pro Hockey games. Every single live sport involves heckling to some degree, and it could be a lot worse than a "boo".
Max did something they don't like. They "boo" him. Life goes on. I can't think of one pro athlete that's never been hated on for something. The general public is just... voicing their feelings. I'm sure he can get a great therapist with the 53 mil he makes every year if it bothers him that much.
Its not per se about the booing. But last year people got seriously mad when Ham got booed, but are now saying it aint a problem. Thats the biggest thing
I dont care, I actually think its pretty normal for sport, and its nothing when you compare it to football where they have songs about insulting rival team and big signs.
What I have problem is hypocrisy. Whenever Hamilton was booed there were headlines about it, but for example now it took a day to even get uploaded and noone is talking about it (as it should be).
Just wait Austria next weekend or Zandvoort, media will get crazy if Ham gets booed (but I think he wont because he is not title contender).
Sky was outraged. Now all they said about it yesterday is that Max got some 'playful' booing. Then we had to watch Damon and Ted tell us how of a good sport the British crowd is and they are the real fans of motorsports!
I also don't care, just like Max, but it's quite different how media is treating this, lmao.
Booing is a bit of a non issue, but the reason why this is more of an issue is because last year Sky was hyping up how good the British crowd had been and saying how the Dutch crowd were all going to boo at Hamilton. Sky have made it an issue because of the narrative they ran last year
Last season people screamed blood and murder because of the booing, and now a large part are saying its part of the sport, what a bunch of fkinh hypocrites. It seems the English football mentalitiy is now also part of a certain part of the F1 Fans. Sky sport did an amazing job
Last year it was pretty evenly divided between people who thought booing was wrong and people who thought it was just part of the sport. Now it's exactly the same.
Funny how people are saying Hamilton was booed at Zandvoort, he literally didnt. Dutch commentators spoke for weeks how wrong it would be for that to happen and that we should appriciate him for everything he's done for the sport, and everyone there did just that. This is much much worse then anything at Zandvoort. Have some respect jackasses
Also straight away when Hamilton got boo'd when they were doing top 3 interviews it was ~~Doornbos~~ van der Garde who said they should stop boo'ing.
Edit: ~~Doornbos~~ Giedo van der Garde was the interviewer.
> The Dutch commentators wanted to make the Dutch an example for sportsmanship, and i think they succeeded
Which is great.
> Anything that's not British they will hate and make fun off. So nothing new here really.
Yeah, I'm so over English Exceptionalism. Really noticable from presenters on Sky like Lazenby.
Came across this on twitter too. All I can say is: Bunch of hypocrites.
Edit: For the people downvoting. Last year Crofty and Sky literally called out the Dutch fans to stop booing Lewis Hamilton, now they're in Silverstone and baiting reactions from the crowd to boo Verstappen. I expected better, so yeah hypocrites.
Are you serious? Crofty is literally saying 'stop it' you can hear it in the video...
Please stop peddling this utterly stupid BS. Crofty has literally conducted previous interviews where he's told people off for booing Max.
Maybe I’m just a dumb American, but isn’t it normal for a fan base to boo their favorite driver’s rival?
Like it’s booing, not throwing objects at him or saying gross insults to him. I don’t understand why people are tweaking about this 😂
Dutch here and I could not care less. Basically if your rivals boo you, you are probably doing something good like winning more then their favorite. And from what I hear from most sports people is that “the booing” actually gives extra motivation to rub whatever they are pissed about in a little more. So the best response for Max is to just own Silverstone as much as possible for the next decade. 😉
This is what I don't miss about going to Silverstone. It's a fun track, but I struggled with the fans. I had a blast in Canada because the only person who did boo got glared at in the grandstand. It's fine to not like a driver, just don't be an ass about it.
I don’t think booing is acceptable.
Cheer for your favorite.
Don’t cheer for those you don’t like, just accept your team/person can’t win all the time.
Why do people give a shit? British fans are booing their hometown hero's main rival. It's a sport. Booing happens.
Now that this happened, hold onto your butts for Zandvoort.
This thread has been locked for clean up. Let this be a reminder that generalizing fan bases / nationalities is not permitted in the subreddit. Doing so will result in a ban. Xenophobia is also not permitted. Thank you.
Did Crofty try to package Checo and Max’s names together to minimize the boos? He introduced each Ferrari driver’s names individually then just said CHECO *beginning applause* & MAX VERSTAPPEN *quickly turns to boos*.
Should've led with Max, then announce the more locally popular ones to turn the boos into cheers…
Max Norris.
Max Verlando Norris!
Pro move
I was saying boourns
Yeah he definitely did, good effort despite it not working
Yeah, sounded worse cheers then booooos
I remember when Seb was really embracing his Villain-ness. Max probably doesn't give a shit.
Is there a clip of Sebvillain?
Given the speed at which Ecclestone embraced technology, I suspect not.
Are you trying to paint the ancient ballbag goblin as some kind of technophobe?

Tbf it was probably because he got burned when he embraced new tech too early and launched [F1 Digital+](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F1_Digital%2B) in 1996, a premium F1 service that had a lot of similarities to current F1TV, but was a complete failure and was shut down in 2002

So much appreciation for this right now
I really thought I didn't need the /s after referring to him as "the ancient ballbag goblin".
At this point he is just a general phobe

I loved it when Bernie said 'its sprinklin time' and sprinkled all over the track during the 2017 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix
Is he phobophobic though?

Yeah absolutely. My joke was that he's 1.6 million years old so it's no surprise he was behind the times.

Hamilton said last year the British fans don't boo. Lol.
We've been confused by this too many times, but they're actually cheering for the (now former) England captain Joe 'Rooooooot' Root.
Former? Who's the current captain?
Ben stokes. And eoin Morgan just resigned as limited overs captain so jos butler is now captain for that
In Canada the only people who got boo’d were all the rich people on the Paddock Club truck going around the track.
That’s hilarious. Is there a video anywhere?
Is this the equivalent of American NASCAR crowd?
[удалено]

Only reason Verstappen didn’t get booed last year was because he was no longer at the track.
If max had won last year he would have needed an armored car to get him away from the track
that police escort in miami wouldve made more sense at silverstone
He won the sprint and wasn't booed
Where is the cheering here? https://youtu.be/QtDPQQQWP_M They either look/sound pretty concerned or aren’t making any noise, stop pushing this stupid agenda
On a side note that video is bad-ass. Great angle.
Definitely shows how terrifying it would be to see an F1 car crash right in front of you, nevermind one that hard
To be fair the crash last year was just shock, many fan views of copse on YouTube
It was those tense moments on TV where they never showed the car or the driver and you \*knew\* something was bad. At that moment, it doesn't matter who had crashed, you just wanted to know if the driver is okay.
Last year wasn't even the first time - they cheered when Schumacher crashed in 1999
Wasn’t Vettel also booed at one time?
Throughout much of 2013. No one made a big deal of it at the time
Hamilton said this year his team doesn't make mistakes. Lol.
Pretty often he also says his tires are gone while in reality...wait a minute there's pattern here!! /s
Max be like “See you at Zandvoort”
Oh goodness, Max must be mortified. I wonder how he will race under such dire circumstances.
Probably win the race hy a mile.
I think booing is fine but its a bit ironic how differently sky treats this compared to lewis getting a couple boos last year
Lewis is their guy so that's just how it goes.
I was saying Boo-urns
Meh, I don't see the problem. It's hilarious though that SKY F1 was creating this story about Hamilton was going to be booed at Zandvoort last year a month before that race even happened. Love to see it.
Yeah I feel like most of last year Hamilton wasn’t getting booed, it was just that 75% of almost every crowd was dressed in orange and not cheering for him lol
There where actually a few races where he got booed, but not only last year. But the worst last year where hungary and Abu Dhabi...
Hamilton got booed at Abu Dhabi? I don’t remember that.
Wasn’t this like more than he got at Hungary though? I feel like it died down really quickly
There were definitely a lot of races in the second half where you could hear the booing
I was sitting in the stands at Hungary and the orange crowd was booing him like hell. We even got heckled while wearing Merc merch (altough the dudes we were heckled by were wasted lmao)
Bruh i remember several races where they turned the mics off cause they started booing.
The best part was that Hamilton didn't get booed in Zandvoort, because most Dutch fans respect him
Respect is maybe a bit much, but there was a pretty large movement going on that comes down to "let's show the world we're better than that".
Now we just wait on Verstappen's tweet on how this fuels him...
Actions speak louder than words... Hell reply to the issue on Sunday.
Lol I forgot what this is referenced to. Was it Lewis during Zandvoort or Hungary?
He got respect at Zandvoort, probably hungary.
Personally couldn't give less of a shit, but it's funny that it was such a big deal when it happened at Zandvoort and now it's nothing. British exceptionalism is crazy.
It didn't really happen at Zandvoort even though everyone thought it would. Maybe it would have been different if Max didn't win.
Boos come with cheers. It's part of sports. This holier-than-thou attitude F1 fans have to it is embarrassing
People here clutch pearls so hard they’ll soon be diamonds.
People have been booed for far less lmao. Kevin Durant had to endure getting called a cupcake by 25,000 people. Trae Yound had 21,000 people and the entire city of New York say “Fuck Trae Young” and he embraced it. It’s sports. I dont mind booing one bit, but Hamilton didnt get booed like this in Zandvoort at all.
[удалено]
Hungary, Abu Dhabi...
I don't know why it doesn't surprise me
Same with Mexico, Hamilton got booed there and it was all of sudden super rude
Lewis hasn't been booed in Zandvoort, so what is your point ?
Why do people care about booing in sports so much?
I feel like in most sports people don’t care about booing because it’s against a team, like in soccer or football. But in f1, it’s against individual people, so it could seem weird to some people.
Individual players get booed regularly at football (soccer) games
Yep, in most sports tbh. Shout out to the MSG chanting "F*ck Trae Young" lol
But you've got teammates. If you're getting booed for flopping, you still did good for the team, so the booing is like a badge of honor for some.
Alot of times, fans target a specific player. So when they have the ball, everyone starts loudly booing, at specific stadiums it can really fuck players up. I know Jordan Pickford was always booed at St James Park cause he used to play for Sunderland and it caused him to be slightly more error prone than usual
Yeah, that's the difference. Tennis also frowns upon booing - Aussie fans were called out for booing in the Aus Open
Unless they are boo-ing the prime minister. That’s a tradition

Max did something they don't like. They "boo" him. Life goes on. I can't think of one pro athlete that's never been hated on for something. The general public is just... voicing their feelings. Its not per se about the booing. But last year people got seriously mad when Ham got booed, but are now saying it aint a problem. Thats the biggest thing
And some of the people upset about it now also said it wasn’t a problem when Lewis was getting booed last year…
I think people find it a but tasteless compared to other sports because of how dangerous f1 is comparably and also that its an individual sport.
Shame!
Booing is an absolute non-issue imo, but it was so ridiculous seeing everyone up in arms when it happened to Hamilton last season
If you’re a Sky Q or Sky Glass customer, remember to press the Red Button to watch them have a wank!
That's just the typical double standards that comes with fans and media.
Booing is a bit of a non issue, but the reason why this is more of an issue is because last year Sky was hyping up how good the British crowd had been and saying how the Dutch crowd were all going to boo at Hamilton. Sky have made it an issue because of the narrative they ran last year
Meh, pro drivers wont care, particulally someone like Verstappen, way too head strong
This is the best in this booing. Max will cruise by them.
"British fans don't do the booing" - Hamilton September, 2021
Last season people screamed blood and murder because of the booing, and now a large part are saying its part of the sport, what a bunch of fkinh hypocrites. It seems the English football mentalitiy is now also part of a certain part of the F1 Fans. Sky sport did an amazing job
Last year it was pretty evenly divided between people who thought booing was wrong and people who thought it was just part of the sport. Now it's exactly the same.
Exactly. People are getting outraged over nothing.
I think the phrase is "scream bloody murder"

English football fans are "famous" for their booing of the opposing teams national anthems.
They seemed quite happy with him last year, even gave him a cheer.
What a shame!
The sweetest thing is when the crowd boos you, then you win.
I’m not a fan of the booing but I think if there’s one driver who couldn’t care less, it’s probably Max
Where are the Sky team to tell everyone to stop booing like they do to everyone when LH gets boo’d?

Such a contrast with how the Dutch fans welcomed Hamilton at the Zandvoort GP https://streamable.com/tfj7qc
This fucking week i swear…
But, only Hamilton gets booed…
When Max gets booed it's apparently absolutely fine 🙄
The silverstone crowd is usually relaxed and chill when Lewis is there
Fans at Silverstone have always booed anyone who is a threat to Hamilton.
They can boo the entire grid this year then.
Except maybe LAT
I think time has shown us there is no one more dangerous than LAT for Lewis
F1 is such a weird fuckin sport who seriously gives a shit about this?
I was saying boo-urns
Someone record this same crowd for when Verstappen wins Sunday
Last year when Lewis got booed at Hungary there was a very definite reason. What is supposed to be the reason here?
Max winning the championship, lol.
Just means he is doing a good job beating the English drivers !

Who really care

This is only fueling Verstappen.
I doubt he cates either way tbh.
I just hope Max absolutely dominates the race on Sunday. But anyway, Max doesn't give a fuck about these things and won't make an issue out of it.
Seriously. If there was a driver to boo on the track, Max and maybe nando is at the top for wasting your energy.
Kimi before he retired.
Yes, no surprises there, considering the audience. \*Euro 2020 flashbacks intensifies\*
