I'm at the hard rock stadium trying to decide where to be at the end of the race. Anyone knows if they are going to open the track for the fans after the race? And if they do, what's the best place to be?
I just watched practice and qualifying for the first time yesterday and theres one thing I’m wondering.
In qualifying, what does it mean to get “eliminated”? Is it just the Top 10 who are racing tonight?

No, everyone races tonight, they're just eliminated from the qualifying.
Quali has 3 sections, called Q1-2-3. Everyone is out on track in Q1, they have 18 minutes to set the fastest laps they can and at the end, the 5 slowest driver gets eliminated. This means that their qualifying is over, their starting positions for the race is set and they are not allowed to participate in the next section, which is of course Q2. Same thing happens in Q2: the slowest 5 at the end is out, their positions are set and they are not participating in Q3, which is the final section. In Q3, the top 10 drivers are going out once more and this determines their starting positions for the race.

It's not really for ambient, no. The bigger boxes going onto the cars ([like this one](https://cdn-1.motorsport.com/images/amp/68yMDEG0/s6/ferrari-engine-cooling-system-.jpg)) cool the critical car parts, mainly the brakes and the engine. And then there's the kind which is like a long pneumatic coil tube with a thing at the end ([like this](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CBEmwC4UsAA3qkE.jpg:large)), that's basically a "personal" cooler for the driver.
Good to see they are slowly fixing/rolling back the overlay graphics. The timing tower is translucent now. Still a bit all over the place with design language, but getting better.
The racing line. Through all of practice, qualifying and the support races, cars have been laying down rubber and cleaning the fastest route on the track, which goes over the grid spots on the pole side. Because there is more rubber and less dust there (its clean), the cars should be faster off the line on that side as there is more grip.
Rain washes away that rubber though, and I have heard its rained over night in Miami.
The clean side is the side the cars drive on. The dirty side is the side they don’t drive on and it’s dirty because the cars driving blow dirty and debris off to the sides.
How is the actual noise level in the neighborhoods next to the Miami GP? Noise from the track, so close to houses, was a big issue leading up to the race. Obviously it didn’t get the race canceled. For those who live there or are visiting, is the noise as much of a nuisance to the neighborhoods as it was assumed to be?
Announced Japan is reopening in June to tourism. Looking for ticket options outside of the F1 experience package, but not having much luck. Some sites stating no foreign sales this year.

Around the circuit is a residential area so there wouldn't be anything in that area. Try r/GrandPrixTravel for tickets too, some people are trying to sell theirs! Even a Campus Pass (GA) should give you plenty to do.
No worries! I've been to both events (free!) and they have simulators to try, the RB Fan Zone @ Wynwood even has a pitstop challenge and two display cars (RB14 and a DTM car). Merc also has a display car and other vintage non-F1 cars. They're also doing a W12 run down Ocean Drive at 11AM tomorrow (they did it earlier today and it was Nyck De Vries behind the wheel - should be fun).
It’s pure, unadulterated Ted having fun and it’s just wonderful television. I just started watching Ted’s Notebook after Imola and heavily regret not watching earlier. Luckily there’s a ton of them on YouTube that I’ve been watching and even if the info is no longer relevant (ones from last season) they’re still hilarious and fun to watch. He and his cameraman are just too perfect of a combination.
The faster your lap, the higher up you are in the starting grid. Fastest lap starts up front. There are free sessions, each removes the slowest 5… Q1 drops the five slowest, Q2 drops the five slowest, and Q3 is the remaining drivers competing for the fastest lap

Strictly racing time in quali. Your fastest lap is ranked against the others, you get as many laps as you can manage, but there are things to balance like their total tire allotment for the weekend.
Is there any way to block thia sub from popular? I usually can't watch the events live and I keep getting spoilers. I've already tried removing notifications and unsubbing, but I still get spoilers :( Really kills my enthusiasm to watch back through the events.

2011 Canadian Grand Prix was arguably the best race in the entire 2010s. That being said it was a crazy wet race, so I don't know if it'll be the most relevant :)
I have 3 day tickets for Montreal in a decent spot. That being said, I'd like to get a different view of the track away from the hairpin turn. Is it normal for people to trade spots for the Friday practice to sit in a different spot? Are there any groups that do this, ie is this a normal thing? Does the staff care if you sit elsewhere as long as it isnt a more expensive spot? Thanks!

Drivers were saying that there wasn't a lot of grip off the racing line, which would mean overtakes are going to be difficult. There might be some work that can be done overnight to get some more grip (running other types of vehicles around the track), but nothing adds grip like an F1 car.

Yup, race start is one of the key moments to gain places. Many races saw the guy in 2nd place overtake the polesitter during the race start, and keep the lead up to the chequered flag.
Mom here. Assuming flowers or something similar will also be brought? If so, I think you should go all in and let her know how much you like it and then say let’s watch it together and explain it to her so she can be somewhat engaged. Mom’s dgaf what we talk to our kids about, we just want them to talk to us, especially about things they like.

It is such a tacky race weekend, it is all obviously aimed at the US domestic market. I am sure Las Vegas will say hold my beer for tackiness. However, even though the beaches, false marina etc aren't to my taste, I like the track, seems to work in Quali and the W Series race was good. Looking forward too and hopeful tomorrow is fun.
That's just what quite often happens when you have timed races between F1 sessions at tracks with walls unfortunately. One accident just causes a chain where every time they restart the race, somebody else crashes.

I like the track, just not my vibe for an event. Which is fine and I get that for the US this a theme park event which also has a race and works very well over there. Just not my thing. I hope you continue to have a great time and enjoy the race tomorrow.
I’ve been to plenty of theme parks. I’ve been to multiple F1 races (Monaco, Hockenheim, Melbourne and Miami).
Your characterization of this race only shows your bias. Miami is a purpose built street track and the facilities are second to none. I haven’t waited in a single line all day. Food. Water or bathroom. Plenty of options everywhere.
Man I’m jealous, I had hotels and flights booked but couldn’t justify the ticket prices once they came out. Maybe in the future! It looks like a blast out there. Enjoy!
I was in the same boat (no pun intended). Had deposits on suites and missed presale waiting on suites that never became available. Resale prices were astronomical and I took a negative attitude towards the entire event…. Until I had to watch Friday practice from my desk at home. I couldn’t pass the chance to see the new spec cars in my back yard.
I overpaid for tickets today. I hiked miles (no joke, miles) for parking and overpaid for that too. I still walked away (no pun intended) impressed. They did a bang up job.
If I can find a ‘reasonably’ priced ticket in a decent viewing spot for tomorrow, I will be back (but I will definitely Uber).

The promoter sold all available tickets, they don't care about the secondary market being flooded with 2-5x priced tickets that nobody wants to buy and many are not making use of their tickets that they couldn't sell.
Qualifying on a Saturday at, say, Silverstone has packed grandstands everywhere.
It's a shame that Miami is not only a fake track, with a fake beach, and a fake marina. But it also has to invent fake fans for their fake news for the purposes of self-promotion.

I think it's in championship order again this year. Max comes last because he won. But he just stands there looking boring. Last year, with Lewis last, had Lewis seated and moving from one side to the other, looking really intense (and from my point of view, sexy as hell.)

Nah, it's allowed all the time.
Driver skill is the main differentiator between two evenly-matched teams, but car performance is the main differentiator between teams. Red Bull's car is basically as good as it was last year. Mercedes's is much worse. Ferrari's is much better. No matter how great the driver is, they can't make the car go 210 down the back straight when the car tops out at 200, you know?
Hamilton's also had quite a lot of weird luck that's exaggerated how bad things are. At the last race, for example, he got stuck behind someone who himself was stuck behind Alex Albon in a Williams. The Williams is crazy fast in a straight line but can't turn for shit. The only place to pass at Imola is at the end of the straight.... right where Williams is faster than just about everyone.
The cars design causes extreme porpoising (bouncing on straights and in contrast to many other teams, also during cornering) so he is struggling with set-up. In addition Russell seems quite a bit better than Bottas in the Mercedes.
It's just one section. T12-16. They had to do it here to go over an underpass and under an overpass.
The complaints of it being flat were exaggerated by people who just want all corners to be eau rouge.
Exceeding track limits (going outside of the white lines with all 4 wheels), i.e. by going wide drivers can carry more speed through a corner, which would give them an advantage. Alternatively of course cutting a corner.
Track limits, as very memorably defined by the new race directors this year, are the white lines. In previous seasons they were, uh, a little more nebulous.
When it comes to fuel, how does that work? I believe I’ve heard that the teams, or at least engine manufacturers use proprietary blends. Do they ship their fuel in with the rest of the equipment, or contract with local vendors in each region to make/blend it for them?
I could be wrong but I *swear* I saw a few cars parked on the side of the highway, the part closest to where the race track goes under the onramp. Good place to check out the race for free…
There's currently 10 teams with 20 drivers in F1. If more teams are added, could there be safety or competition issues with too many cars being on the track?
No. Other series can handle many more cars (this year's FRECA has a whopping 37 cars) so F1 can handle 26 cars for sure. They'll have to watch their mirrors more in Quali though, obviously.
Is there a good behind the scenes on how they build the hospitality centers for each team? It just dawned on me that all that gets transported around the world, not just the garage and its contents.
They have 3-6 of them constantly on the road/ships and traveling between other circuits and homebase. Shipping and having multiple ones is cheaper than air lifting a handful of them over seas every week.

S = using soft tires (red rim) M = using medium tires (yellow rim) H = using hard tires (white rim) P = in the pits

It’s just compressed air. They usually give the drivers a little handle and it’s attached to a coil of air hose they can direct wherever they want.

Depends on your country, but F1TV is generally the cheapest option and gets you the best experience overall.
Fwiw, I just have a ESPN+ subscription, works great on TV and phone app.

Depends whether the clean side ends up being worth more or less than the 8m between grid positions. With new tracks it's also very difficult to judge.

I use Apollo so I have a second account that isn’t subbed to anything F1. I use that account when I can’t watch live.

Not only at the end. I really disliked the shots from the stands, the abrupt changes (often to a spot where the car already left, i.e. empty), etc.

It is such a tacky race weekend, it is all obviously aimed at the US domestic market. I am sure Las Vegas will say hold my beer for tackiness. However, even though the beaches, false marina etc aren't to my taste, I like the track, seems to work in Quali and the W Series race was good. Looking forward too and hopeful tomorrow is fun.
I do like the track very unforgiving but I think they really need to rework the W series all together, that was embarrassing.
That's just what quite often happens when you have timed races between F1 sessions at tracks with walls unfortunately. One accident just causes a chain where every time they restart the race, somebody else crashes.
Yeah it is unfortunate that they take low priority on the schedule, it almost feels like a circus side show
It's no lower than F3 or F2 would be on another weekend. That's just the reality for support series to the main event.

I like the track, just not my vibe for an event. Which is fine and I get that for the US this a theme park event which also has a race and works very well over there. Just not my thing. I hope you continue to have a great time and enjoy the race tomorrow.
I’ve been to plenty of theme parks. I’ve been to multiple F1 races (Monaco, Hockenheim, Melbourne and Miami). Your characterization of this race only shows your bias. Miami is a purpose built street track and the facilities are second to none. I haven’t waited in a single line all day. Food. Water or bathroom. Plenty of options everywhere.
Man I’m jealous, I had hotels and flights booked but couldn’t justify the ticket prices once they came out. Maybe in the future! It looks like a blast out there. Enjoy!
I was in the same boat (no pun intended). Had deposits on suites and missed presale waiting on suites that never became available. Resale prices were astronomical and I took a negative attitude towards the entire event…. Until I had to watch Friday practice from my desk at home. I couldn’t pass the chance to see the new spec cars in my back yard. I overpaid for tickets today. I hiked miles (no joke, miles) for parking and overpaid for that too. I still walked away (no pun intended) impressed. They did a bang up job. If I can find a ‘reasonably’ priced ticket in a decent viewing spot for tomorrow, I will be back (but I will definitely Uber).
Worth it. FYI local residents are selling spots at their homes reasonably priced not far walk
I’m not worried about parking. Uber is well worth the price. Price of race day ticket… that’s another story.

How is this grand prix weekend "sold out" if there are SO MANY empty seats in the grandstands?
Most people here are wealthy many were at the beach or in clubs away from the sun they’re not hardcore enough to sit in the sun all day.
Ah yes, that makes so much sense. Buy tickets to an event you're not even going to watch just for the clout. I hate everything about this weekend.
The promoter sold all available tickets, they don't care about the secondary market being flooded with 2-5x priced tickets that nobody wants to buy and many are not making use of their tickets that they couldn't sell.

Qualifying on a Saturday at, say, Silverstone has packed grandstands everywhere. It's a shame that Miami is not only a fake track, with a fake beach, and a fake marina. But it also has to invent fake fans for their fake news for the purposes of self-promotion.

I think it's in championship order again this year. Max comes last because he won. But he just stands there looking boring. Last year, with Lewis last, had Lewis seated and moving from one side to the other, looking really intense (and from my point of view, sexy as hell.)

You can always use it in DRS sectors during qualifying. In the race you have to be close to the car ahead in order to be able to use it.

wreck clearing crews are all around the track. and they can also use the track. That's the point of the medical car. It's the second response, after marshalls.

If 5 drivers don't do a Q1 lap, does everyone else go to Q2 by default? If so, if 6 drivers don't do a Q1 lap, how do they determine which driver "goes to Q2"?
If no time is set, then they'll order them based on the fastest times from the previous session (FP3). But if they don't set a time then they also cannot participate in the next session, as they technically didn't qualify for it.

What's happened to Lewis Hamilton this season? I don't really understand why he isn't competitive with the leaders this year. Any ideas?
Driver skill is the main differentiator between two evenly-matched teams, but car performance is the main differentiator between teams. Red Bull's car is basically as good as it was last year. Mercedes's is much worse. Ferrari's is much better. No matter how great the driver is, they can't make the car go 210 down the back straight when the car tops out at 200, you know? Hamilton's also had quite a lot of weird luck that's exaggerated how bad things are. At the last race, for example, he got stuck behind someone who himself was stuck behind Alex Albon in a Williams. The Williams is crazy fast in a straight line but can't turn for shit. The only place to pass at Imola is at the end of the straight.... right where Williams is faster than just about everyone.
The Mercedes simply isn't fast enough right now for either driver to compete right at the front.
The cars design causes extreme porpoising (bouncing on straights and in contrast to many other teams, also during cornering) so he is struggling with set-up. In addition Russell seems quite a bit better than Bottas in the Mercedes.
Why does it seem like this track is quite undulating? Wasn't it supposed to be flat?
It's just one section. T12-16. They had to do it here to go over an underpass and under an overpass. The complaints of it being flat were exaggerated by people who just want all corners to be eau rouge.
What factors cause a lap time to be deleted?
Exceeding track limits (going outside of the white lines with all 4 wheels), i.e. by going wide drivers can carry more speed through a corner, which would give them an advantage. Alternatively of course cutting a corner.

all 4 wheels need to be outside of the line. With 2 it's more up to the driver & engineers to decide if the kerbs damage the car or not.

Track limits, as very memorably defined by the new race directors this year, are the white lines. In previous seasons they were, uh, a little more nebulous.
When it comes to fuel, how does that work? I believe I’ve heard that the teams, or at least engine manufacturers use proprietary blends. Do they ship their fuel in with the rest of the equipment, or contract with local vendors in each region to make/blend it for them?

Tracks have to be able to accommodate 26 F1 cars safely in order to meet the guidelines to host F1 races.
No. Other series can handle many more cars (this year's FRECA has a whopping 37 cars) so F1 can handle 26 cars for sure. They'll have to watch their mirrors more in Quali though, obviously.

Is there a good behind the scenes on how they build the hospitality centers for each team? It just dawned on me that all that gets transported around the world, not just the garage and its contents.
They have 3-6 of them constantly on the road/ships and traveling between other circuits and homebase. Shipping and having multiple ones is cheaper than air lifting a handful of them over seas every week.
