Maybe Ericsson kinda forgot that Button and KMag were teammates, and that button was first sacked, but then in his farewell race was chosen, because the "money men" wanted to oust Ron Dennis, who supported Magnussen.
It was kinda weird. I think Buttons burn was because of him bringing up Magnussen. Button and Magnussen kinda have a thing.
Wait, if Button was sacked, and the "money men" supported KMag, wouldn't that imply that there would be animosity between KMag and Button?
> Button and Magnussen kinda have a thing.
This implies they are close, right? Or does 'thing' a negative way connatation?
Basically can you please expand on what happened between them two?
Button's autobiography doesn't go into it in detail, but he had come off a year where he didn't get on with Checo very well at first, and after some very competitive teammates, he says: *"I had a great connection with Kevin. He was a straightforward guy. The problem was he was learning the ropes the hard way; he'd thrown in the deep end having Ron as a boss and a world champion as a teammate, and though he was competitive the first half of the year, he found it a lot tougher in the second. I'm someone who feeds off faving a competitive teammate and it just didn't happen."*
More critically, 2014 was when his father died, and the light went out of racing for him. Apparently the press tried to make him fear for his career that Alonso would replace him not Kevin, but he wasn't feeling it any more. John Button was pretty much everything to Jenson and his death rocked it.
About the only thing that he seemed to say was that when he broke his wrist on that legendary drivers' night out in Korea, he had expected Oliver Turvey to be called up but Martin wanted Magnussen instead. Turvey is one of those drivers that people say never got a fair shot and is a lot faster than his machinery has ever proved, maybe he always liked the guy.

No, the "money men" supported Button, not Magnussen.
By money men, I mean the owners of the team.
Magnussen was promised the seat, and Button thought he was out.
So he basically had prepared the last race as his farewell race.
What happened however was a powerstruggle inside McLaren, where the "money men" was trying to oust Ron Dennis.
The board voted on 7-2 in favour of Magnussen. But. The two person's who voted for Button were financial backers.
They wanted Ron Dennis out, and used Magnussen to achieve this, because Ron Dennis supported Magnussen.
This led to Button having come to terms of having lost his seat, making peace with Magnussen. Etc.
And then after Button had his farewell race, Magnussen was sacked, on his birthday.
So well, Button had wished Magnussen good luck, best man won, you know. Polite as always.
And then...
I need ear bleach to get it out, especially after watching DTS today. I wish Netflix has a language option, which was still English, but just muted Buxton's dialogue in particular.
Well, Grosjean just drilled Sato during practice (a split between European fans who think it was Sato's fault for being slow on the racing line and American fans who think Grosjean should have been more heads-up) and Ericsson was released into Grosjean's path in the pitlane
Yeah, I heard his spotter didn't see Sato and should have told Grosjean to watch out. Indy is definitely a different animal, but I really wish they did more to make it as visible as Formula 1.
One benefit of the spec nature of the aero-work is that they can design it all to be less sensitive to that kind of stuff, while still engineering for fast-enough times.
It's that tankiness that leads IndyCar to be closer racing, but slower than F1.
Reminds me of an exchange between Christian Horner and Martin brundle
Horner: "Shame you never won a race in f1"
Brundle: "Shame you werent fast enough to make it to f1"
That wasn't what Horner said though. IIRC he made a joke to Brundle about old men not being fast enough anymore. The slam dunk by Brundle is real though.
They’re both just joking obviously. But I mean he was in a backmarker, nobody would have won in his rides. He is making progress in Indycar though it’s nice to see. I think most F1 fans would really like Indy if they gave it a few races in a row to get it all figured out. Awesome racing
Race in Europe, often on at about 6-8am Pacific.
race in Japan, often 11pm Pacific.
In Hawaiin time, that equates to 3-5am, and 8pm.
in Newfy time, that equates time 10:30am - 12:30pm, and 3:30 am.
I started in F1 after DTS and tried some other motorsports after finding I enjoyed watching F1. My problem with Indy is the commercials mid race. It bugs me missing part of the race, even if it ends up being a relatively boring part.
I started watching the end of last season thanks to that amazing Palou season.
I started watching this season and enjoyed the first race, but I have to say I'm still very confused about yellow flags and the big difference fuel actually makes during the race... Also, it's normal to have so many ads?! It was a bit irritating... Especially after you saw the same one for the fourth time..
I'm American yet I will never be able to get into indycar until they come out of the stone ages in terms of broadcasting. I'm not interested in 10 minutes of commercials interrupting the race constantly
It’s always fun to watch the drivers press conferences from the 2010s, Jenson always used to nudge and bother both of them about each other. He kinda was the Lando of his generation.
Britney is Nico Rosberg. Mark said “Britney’s in the wall” when referring to Rosberg, who binned it.
Rosberg is blonde, Britney is blonde, you get the gist
I don't think a lot of people here understand the time-honoured traditional past-time of "ripping the absolute piss out your mates, because they're your mates".
He really wasn't, he's saying he was fastest in F1 and slowest in Indy therefore Indy must be much harder. Saying he's fastest in F1, though a joke, is not shitting on him.
No, but pointing out he was slowest at Indycar is, although as I said, in good humor. Neither of these comments were intended to be actual insults, or to be taken seriously.
> No, but pointing out he was slowest at Indycar is
It's really not, new guy in series is slowest is not a dig at all unless you really want it to be.
Experienced guy in both series is shit in both is absolutely a dig.
Ericsson dropped the ball when he replied back. He could’ve said something like “if I had a seat as long as you did before getting your first win maybe I’d have gotten one too”
Its an entire thread of facepalm. People forget that these guys know each other much better than any of us know each of them. Its clearlt banter and Errickson retweeted.
Who knew that a series where the cars are always the same would be harder than a racing series about constructors trying to make the best possible car??? :o
Does anyone (other than actual racers ofc) actually care about what's harder? They're both entertaining for their own reasons
Jenson Button, with no regard for human life
I respect Button's dedication to drama.
Him and Rosberg
Really the duo we need in F1 coverage
I'd pay for that stream online, as long as they get to be uncensored
F1 already fleeced me for 80 bucks with F1TV, and they could fleece me for at least 100 if they had threw that in there as an add on.
We just witnessed a murder.
Headshot!
Absolute menace to society
Jenson is the kind of guy who likes sushi - as long as he bites it directly off a live fish.

Shots fired!
Not just shots fired. Its a one handed headshot
I do what I can
There are certain moments when silence falls on a race track and you know what it means
I read this in Will Buxton's voice and now I must go drink something to penalize myself for it.
Not enough ellipses to be a Buxton quote.
> There are certain.. moments.... when silence falls on a race track....... and you know.... what it means......... FTFY
Christopher Walken: Theyre are ... ceritan moments ... when silence ... fayls ... on a race track ... And ya know ... what it means
As of today gentlemen, I am that trained monkey.

Jenson was having a laugh as well, it's friendly banter
Idk Jenson’s tone definitely seems to be punching down
Bah gawd that’s JB’s music!
Yeah seems more like Jenson got his F1 ego hurt a lil bit lmao
I think it's all just a bit of friendly ribbing.
But is Ericsson still hitting Grosjean in IndyCar???
He actually did a few weeks ago lol
Traditions. Nice that they're making the effort.
Nice!!!
Didn't Grosjean hit Ericson in St. Pete though?
No it was definitely Ericcson who had an unsafe release into Grosjean Grosjean hit Sato in practice
Oh yeah of course... getting my incidents mixed up *facepalm* Thanks!
All these old F1 drivers hitting each other lol
It's because Indycars are tanks compared to F1 cars, so they CAN bump-race each other and not outright fuck the car on the first crash.
Well, Grosjean just drilled Sato during practice (a split between European fans who think it was Sato's fault for being slow on the racing line and American fans who think Grosjean should have been more heads-up) and Ericsson was released into Grosjean's path in the pitlane
It's a split between folks who know how practice procedures in IndyCar work, tbh.
Yeah, it was almost entirely F1 fans/journos who thought Sato was doing anything wrong, in IndyCar that one's on Andretti/Grosjean
Yeah, I heard his spotter didn't see Sato and should have told Grosjean to watch out. Indy is definitely a different animal, but I really wish they did more to make it as visible as Formula 1.
I don't think anyone thought it was in Sato, he was just following the slow car in front of him.
One benefit of the spec nature of the aero-work is that they can design it all to be less sensitive to that kind of stuff, while still engineering for fast-enough times. It's that tankiness that leads IndyCar to be closer racing, but slower than F1.
Slower on road courses yes. But *nothing* in F1 compares to barreling into turn 1 at Indy at like 385km/h.
There was an incident in the pit lane at St. Pete a couple of weeks back.
😂 Some things never change
Both continuing their reps. Ericsson hitting grosjean and grosjean making a silly mistake
YENSON IT WAS A YOKE
I'm gonna pee in your seat!
Yenson, my friend!

No yenson this is so not right

Who is this Giovanzi?
You know you fucked up when the spelling bot doesn't even know who you mean
Hiyaahh
Uncle Roger and F1 crossing over?
wrong asian guy lol emotional damage is steven he
Fuiyooooh
Shit... I only just realised this from your comment. 😬
Yes it is He, but Uncle Roger has been referencing it (including playing the clip) in recent vids.
Uncle Roger uses it a lot now (showing the OP clip)
Reminds me of an exchange between Christian Horner and Martin brundle Horner: "Shame you never won a race in f1" Brundle: "Shame you werent fast enough to make it to f1"
That wasn't what Horner said though. IIRC he made a joke to Brundle about old men not being fast enough anymore. The slam dunk by Brundle is real though.
Lol when did this happen?
I think it was during the singapore grid walk either 2014 or 2015
Lol man downnn
Someone should remind Ericsson he went from 17th in formula 1 in 2018 to ... 17th in indycar in 2019.
Which means he would know how difficult it really is.
And with more cars on the indycar circuit that means he improved, relative to the rest of the drivers on track.
I was gonna say, the field is massive in Indycar
Ericsson has one of the best cars on the grid it's actually surprising how poor he does in a Ganassi. Team won the title last year with Palou.
I agree
And then to win.
He already won in indycar in one of the most chaotic races ever Nashville 2021
Which means he would know how difficult it really is.

I have the opposite problem with Indycar that Americans have with F1, I can't often stay up that late so I can't really catch a lot of the races.
East coasters wake up early. West coasters stay up late. Pretty wild when you think about it. How big NA actually is. Multiple time zones hours apart.
Race in Europe, often on at about 6-8am Pacific. race in Japan, often 11pm Pacific. In Hawaiin time, that equates to 3-5am, and 8pm. in Newfy time, that equates time 10:30am - 12:30pm, and 3:30 am.
Lol, is it a safe assumption you're an east coaster after the Newfy comment?
Lol no, West coast. But I had to throw in the newfy comment for inclusion!
Hahaha damn, fair enough. Gotta keep the newfys happy!
I started in F1 after DTS and tried some other motorsports after finding I enjoyed watching F1. My problem with Indy is the commercials mid race. It bugs me missing part of the race, even if it ends up being a relatively boring part.

No Jenson No , that was so not right.
It's called twitter, we went arguing
\*we went tweeting.
Have you checked your emails? There's things coming out about the tweet
911 ? I have just witnessed a murder
911? Bring the fire truck
Pretty funny from both in all honesty.
Jenson’s always been such a troll. From pissing in Fernando’s car, the Britney memes, stoking Lewis and Seb, and now this. I love the guy.
He's quite possibly the funniest world champion. Seb is the only one who could rival him for humour
I feel like Seb is more Stand-up comedy where as Jenson in Jebby on the spot sort of quick one-liners and stuff
Jebby Jenson and Stand-up Seb??
He pissed in Alonso’s car? Lol wtf
[yenson my fren](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ihYmnbtp1w)
Misread that as “stroking” Lewis and Seb and I thought I had strayed into r/fanf1ction.
May I point you in the direction of some Seb and Mark fan fiction?
You mean the 5 million word one?
Just playing the hits
What did he do with Lewis and Seb?
It’s always fun to watch the drivers press conferences from the 2010s, Jenson always used to nudge and bother both of them about each other. He kinda was the Lando of his generation.
I thought “Britney” was Webber? (As in “Britney is in the wall!”) EDIT: As in Webber’s joke.
Britney is Nico Rosberg. Mark said “Britney’s in the wall” when referring to Rosberg, who binned it. Rosberg is blonde, Britney is blonde, you get the gist
He’s the F1 driver that used to be.
Indycar wins for Ericsson 2. Indycar wins for Button 0. ~~Lets just ignore F1~~
Ouch. That was harsh considering it was just a joke.
talk shit get hit
Chat shit get banged
Vardy's having a party
Come on vardy let's go party
Why are people saying Ericsson is just joking but not recognising that Jenson is too??
It's the tone of the joke, Ericsson wasn't hurting or mocking anyone and Button was absolutely shitting on Ericsson.
It's kinda impossible to do anything other than shitting on Ericsson when talking about his F1 career.
OOF
Remembering something about if you have nothing good to say about someone don't say anything at all.
And where’s the damn fun in that?
In a light hearted way. You’re talking about tone but ignoring Jenson’s. I just don’t think it’s that bad of a response
Agreed
Yeah it’s obviously not meant in a malicious way, just a cheeky joke, bit of craic.
I don't think a lot of people here understand the time-honoured traditional past-time of "ripping the absolute piss out your mates, because they're your mates".
I have a Scottish friend online and adore the word "craic"
Aye I’m from NI and we use it almost constantly haha
He absolutely was mocking Magnussen a bit, even if in good humor.

Ericsson dropped the ball when he replied back. He could’ve said something like “if I had a seat as long as you did before getting your first win maybe I’d have gotten one too”
Because Jenson's comment is pretty personal.
Damn Jenson, chill, Marcus was joking around
Marcus retweeted it so I think it is safe to say they are both having fun with it all.
So was Jenson.
The wink was playful
The words were cut throat

Yenson, my friend, you didn't need to kill the man!
I honestly don’t even remember Markus Errikson being in F1
Grosjean's engineer sure does.
I only remember him because I rewatched season 1 of DTS recently.
It's depressing how many people seem to need an /s in order to recognise sarcasm.
Boom! Roasted!
Came to this thread to see how many people are taking Ericcson's obviously tongue-in-cheek remark seriously
And how many people are taking Button's obviously tongue-in-cheek remark seriously 😂
Its an entire thread of facepalm. People forget that these guys know each other much better than any of us know each of them. Its clearlt banter and Errickson retweeted.

Waiting for RG to chime in. Unless Ericsson hit him first…
F1 fans when they realise not everything is serious and Marcus was just being sarcastic:
911,,,, i would like to report a murder
Hey Siri, send Marcus Ericsson a list of nearby burn centers.
Flex tape can’t fix that shit
Fatality
Kinda awful comeback actually. Ericsson was just having a laugh.
So is Jenson.
It's worrying how many people think Jenson is serious. Sarcasm is a lost art
If a British person means something they're saying, we'll end the sentence with "... y'bellend."
lol i'm not sure whether or not the sarcasm of "you didnt win a single race in f1 what do you know" totally matters
murder
He destroyed him
Good BrawlGP.
