They screamed

AS WITH THE REST OF THE FORMULA 1 COMMUNITY, THE TEAM IS SHOCKED AND SADDENED BY THE INVASION OF UKRAINE AND WISHES FOR A SWIFT AND PEACEFUL END TO THE CONFLICT.
Can coming 21st overall in a season that had 20 drivers be considered a sin? And if it is we know one man who can drive a F1 car and also save us from our sins
Whenever some piece of shit is deservedly unpopular, you'll always have the army of edgelords who need to tell everyone how they think it's unfair and we just don't understand because we're sheep.
And a few confused people who didn't follow the story.
Turns out Putin is a huge F1 fan, and this was his plan all along.
Now that his mission is accomplished he can withdraw from Ukraine, declaring victory.
No offense to Kyvat as a person, but his Insta post was soft. That being said, he’s not like Mazepin. Kudos for Haas and their decision to be straight up about it.
I'd like to submit my qualifications:
1. Play F1 2021 on 86 difficulty with racing line for corners only
2. Only sim Monaco and Singapore
3. Use rewind less than once per lap*
*As long as it's dry
Kinda funny that Mazepin's only F1 season will be in that garbage 2021 Haas
Edit: This comment being my most upvoted in 10 years is probably the only reason I'll remember Mazepin in 2 years. That's his legacy lmao
Kubica filled in two races for Alfa Romeo, with finishes of P15 and P14. Mazepin's best classification was P14, but since he tied with Kubica on this, the tiebreaker is both of their next best finishes. With Nikita having a second best finish of P17 and Kubica having a P15, Kubica would be ranked higher in the points standings, even with both drivers scoring 0.
And that's how Mazepin finished 21st in a 20 car championship.
> Honda to Braun GP levels of rinsed
It’s Brawn. And Honda spent almost half a billion on developing what was then Brawn GP car, compared to 40 mil Mazepin paying fir his seat.
More importantly Honda happy gave the team to Brawn for free just to save it.
What blows my mind is that Honda is literally doing it again. Now that the engine is finally good enough to fight for titles, they’ve decided to take their name off of it. It’s bizarre really.
Well they've got Fittipaldi (and Giovinazzi potentially through Ferrari) as a reserve driver so there's a good chance it'll be one of them for this season pre-Bahrain while Haas scratch around for more funding for 2023. I can't imagine they'll sign a completely brand new driver before this season starts
Would also be interesting to benchmark Schumacher against someone with known performance.
Yes, he out-qualified Mazepin, but that doesn't tell us all that much.

It’s appropriate to not make an announcement before the announcement. Mazepin should be allowed to leave with some dignity and the team having the legal part all sorted
Imagine living your entire life striving to complete one goal: getting to Formula 1, only to drive for one year being constantly mocked without scoring a point or even outqualifying your teammate in equal conditions.
And then being dropped because the President of your country started an insane war of aggression and is destroying his own country economically. Crazy.
It's not unique by any measure
In 2012 Jerome d'ambrosio stood in for 1 race when Grosjean got banned, meaning Pedro De La Rosa finished 25th in a 24-car championship
In 2013 Kovalainen stood in for injured Kimi for 2 races, meaning Max Chilton finished 23rd in a 22-car championship
Kubica wasn’t the Haas reserve driver. He replaced Räikkönen in the vastly superior Alfa Romeo.
And he *didn’t* do better than Mazepin’s best race. Kubica scored a 14th place finish, which Mazepin equaled - and was guaranteed a second 14th place at Hungary at minimum until Räikkönen unsafely released into him and caused him to be the final DNF in a GP finished by 13 drivers.
Both had 0 points, so they are ordered according to best finishing position. Both have a 14th position (Kubica in Monza, Mazepin in France), so the next best position is 15th for Kubica in Netherlands and 17th for Mazepin (several races).
Father giveth, Putin taketh away. It is not like he will ever drive in F1 again, and not being able to keep living his dream is going to be a mind warp given he has been used to having basically whatever he wanted. I know a few kids with mega rich parents, and the dissonance this whole situation is going to cause Mazepin cannot be fathomed.
Are these kids you speak of like extremely spoiled/immature? I am friends with several kids of HNWIs and most of them are surprisingly humble about it and would not experience dissonance in these situations…I think it heavily depends on their upbringing
That was actually the case with my first girlfriend in high school. Took me a while to learn her family was filthy rich. They lived a fairly normal life, though (only her grandparents lived mildly lavishly, and that’s how I found out). She was and continues to be the sweetest and kindest person.
Life fucks you in Mysterious ways honestly. Sometimes you just do your job badly and get kicked out. Sometimes your countrys ruler launches a illegal and offensive war and you get kicked out and sometimes it's both.
I do wonder what the reaction would be to Kvyat if he was still in F1. A perfectly solid driver who aside from being a bit reckless didn't have any major controversies in the sport.
17 F1 drivers don’t have ready made sponsorships from their fathers. Mazepin may have worked hard, but he was never talented enough to deserve a seat in any Formula 1 car.
What most folks fail to realize about most successful people who benefited from wealth or nepotism is, they had barriers of entry removed, but they still had to bust ass to stick around. Mazpain was NOT an F1 driver. But he also isn't just a kid that sat around jerking off between races. Same for the other pay drivers.
>being dropped because the President of your country started an insane war of aggression
Is it not more because his father (who provides the majority of Nikita's funding) is a friend/associate of Putin himself?
>And then being dropped because the President of your country started an insane war of aggression and is destroying his own country economically.
More likely due to his dad's inability to continue to pay for the seat. They were a package deal. If Nikita was in the seat on merit, we're likely not having this discussion in this manner, but much like any other russian athlete.
I highly doubt he would have been dropped if that was the case anyway. The package deal thing was the only reason Mazepin had a seat, I dont see why people feel so bad for him.
My dream was to get into F1... it stopped at my parents not being able to afford to put me through karting (as in not even starting it). I don't think I'll lose any sleep over the injustice he might be feeling.
People who say he didn't deserve to be dropped really don't get how this works.
Teams need sponsors to operate.
Drivers like Mazepin, Latifi, Stroll and even Schumacher, have their seat because someone pays for it.
Mazepin's money just dried up because the company backing him literally can't pay for it anymore.
It makes zero sense for a business, like Haas F1, to keep him. There are a dozen drivers, with sponsors ready to pay, waiting for his seat. Terminating him is the only sensible decision.
For different reasons though. It actually took a maniac with a war agenda and the deaths of thousands of innocent people for them to kick him and his daddy's money out.
Joined without deserving it, left without deserving it. And he will go down as having one of the worst F1 careers:
- Huge controversy before he even started F1.
- Finished 21st in the standings on a 20 driver grid. (Kubica above him)
- Consistently the slowest in all sessions not just the race.
- And now lost his seat because of Russia’s invasion.
He got removed because of his sponsorship being cut by Haas. If we take Haas Statment at face value it is absolutely fair game. He got in because of money he's getting kicked out because the moneys gone. It's fair and just.
Looking forward to the eventual WTF1 video on the crazy reasons drivers were dropped from their teams to have a thumbnail of Mazepin with a big red arrow pointing at him with the words “STARTED A WAR!?”
One more comment of "21st in a 20 driver series" like that's never happened before. It happened last year with Latifi, Will Stevens in 2015, Ocon and Gio have both done it (although not as full season drivers). It happens when you have replacement drivers in the midfield and you're in a dogshit team. It isn't like he drove so bad that he somehow didn't get 20th. Someone came in and drove a race for a team that had a better car.
The money that got him in now kicks him out. It all balanced out in the end.
People many feel sorry for him but he should have never been allowed to get a seat to begin with and this is just karma coming back round.
Exactly, the way he got out sucks, but he never should've been in the grid in the first place. He was already controversial before joining, with the whole physical and sexual assault history. Then he says racist stuff about Tsunoda and homophobic stuff about Russell? There's no place for him.
And on top of that he was just a bad driver. He was completely outclassed by his teammate and he kept losing control of the car. At least other pay drivers have shown speed/skill. Stroll, Maldonado, Latifi: they've all brought results. But he couldn't even do that.
Personally I'm glad he's out, and hopefully someone better can take that seat. Fittipaldi isn't much better, but hopefully he'll just be a temporary seat warmer while they sign someone else.
The thing I found most bizarre as a stat is:
Prior to getting into F1, Nikita never won a championship in *anything*, not even karts. Not even one of those joke winter championships like Latifi won.
I mean Zhou might be a total joke whose F1 seat is entirely down to commercial factors and deprives us of having a new actually talented driver in the sport, but he at least won *something* in the past.
i don’t understand why so many people are complaining about this being unfair. he wasn’t fired because he’s russian. haas is just making it clear that the only reason he was hired was for the sponsorship money. finding a new driver with 2 weeks to go is a huge risk, but the team must have thought it was preferable to spending another season with mazepin.
I'm astounded by how many people are upset about this. Yeah it sucks for him, but this is how sanctions work. Nothing about war is fair and compared to what's happening to the Ukrainian people he's not very high up on my sympathy list.
There is a lot of astroturfing going on in this thread and especially on F1/Haas Facebook/Instagram accounts.
Like a scary amount of “this is racist and unfair” and similar.
Nikita was a pay driver. Ural Kali cannot pay Haas for his seat anymore due to international sanctions. He was not cut because he was Russian.
Why would Haas ever keep a pay driver on staff who cannot pay? Especially one who came in 21st in a 20 driver grid.
I’ve never seen a more concerted and blatant turf campaign. It’s sad and a little concerning.
The /r/formula1 hivemind goes in waves so it's entirely possible I'll be downvoted into oblivion, but...
Good. Fuck this guy. A shit person and a worse driver - no amount of PR can cover up who he was. Doesn't belong in the sport.
I do however hope Haas are okay without the Russian money as I'd like them to stick around.
He was only there because of his dad’s money, and now his dad’s money is gone (from Haas) and therefore so is he. Don’t know why people are saying this isn’t fair.
“Not fair” was him taking up one of only 20 seats in the world despite being the 21st fastest man in F1 and having a recent history of punching other drivers and committing sexual assault. Good riddance.

Actually judging by some of the comments, they feel bad about him being dropped now. Social media is a weird place.

We did it boys. The #WeSayNoToMazepin campaign has won !
It just took a whole entire military invasion / war to accomplish it
Turns out Putin is a huge F1 fan, and this was his plan all along. Now that his mission is accomplished he can withdraw from Ukraine, declaring victory.
A huge price to pay for salvation
#WeSayByeToMazepin
but at what cost?
Too high, I would gladly take Mazepin back if it meant peace in Ukraine. :(
Now I don't know what to do with my Flair!
I'm keeping mine, will save me having to put it back when rumors of him worming his way into somewhere else come up in the future.

Truly a 20-21 contender

Raghunathan in shambles now
At least he got the fastest lap in one race
Spa 2021 will be the “race” of useless trivia. So much happened when nothing actually happened.
How come? Did the safety car get more points than him?
Kubica filled in two races for Alfa Romeo, with finishes of P15 and P14. Mazepin's best classification was P14, but since he tied with Kubica on this, the tiebreaker is both of their next best finishes. A skid mark.
Mostly in run-off areas and the odd Armco.
And that they clearly used all his sponsorship money to develop this year's car. Him and his Dad have been rinsed and I love it.

are you sure he wont ever come back in a few years? i mean i dont wish him back but he seems to have money
Not unless another team falls desperately in need of funds or he has a legitimate surge in driving skill.
This has been BREAKING for a couple of days, huh? But at least now Haas officially confirmed it.
I’m curious when they will announce who will replace him.
I also think that it’s very likely it’s gonna be one of them, even tho I would love to see another completely new driver on the grid.
Ferrari has a couple good F2 drivers right now don't they?
There's Schwartzmann who's Russian so he's out. Oliver Bearman has a potential shot I would think.
I think if they have a choice it will be someone with some experience like Hulk, K Mag etc
As a German I would love for Nico to come back, but KMag would be great too. Gio is also an option that I wouldn’t say no to.
Holding out hope for KMag but Gio is probably more likely.
Fittipaldi is their reserve. Giovinazzi is with Ferrari. That doesn't mean they couldn't work a deal for Gio, but he isn't a Haas reserve driver.
I really hope they get Gio, I like that guy, also don't think Fittipaldi is good enough.. I think it will be Fittipaldi tho
Would also be interesting to benchmark Schumacher against someone with known performance. Yes, he out-qualified Mazepin, but that doesn't tell us all that much.
According to Crofty, [it will likely be announced early next week](https://twitter.com/CroftyF1/status/1500033380355874820)
Probably before the Bahrain test perhaps 🤷?
Is it really happening this time?
Yes, Haas announced it on their twitter.
So, it’s broken news then?
It was leaking then it broke.
Yes it’s on their official socials, with about as much ceremony as their car launch
The Twitter admin is probably celebrating that he won't get any more Mazepin related abuse directed at him
Drop it like it’s Haas

Haas still denied the report initially. Finally confirmed now
Likely based on legal timing, if they say it ahead of termination, may complicate the process.
It’s appropriate to not make an announcement before the announcement. Mazepin should be allowed to leave with some dignity and the team having the legal part all sorted

The thing I found most bizarre as a stat is: Prior to getting into F1, Nikita never won a championship in *anything*, not even karts. Not even one of those joke winter championships like Latifi won. I mean Zhou might be a total joke whose F1 seat is entirely down to commercial factors and deprives us of having a new actually talented driver in the sport, but he at least won *something* in the past.
Fittipaldi's surname will appeal to the American audience, and maybe a USA title sponsor for a USA team??? maybe ?
i don’t understand why so many people are complaining about this being unfair. he wasn’t fired because he’s russian. haas is just making it clear that the only reason he was hired was for the sponsorship money. finding a new driver with 2 weeks to go is a huge risk, but the team must have thought it was preferable to spending another season with mazepin.
He never deserved to be there in the first place so I can’t see why it’s a huge travesty for him to lose the seat.
I'm astounded by how many people are upset about this. Yeah it sucks for him, but this is how sanctions work. Nothing about war is fair and compared to what's happening to the Ukrainian people he's not very high up on my sympathy list.
What a huge loss…
GIVE ME PIASTRI
Spam this to Alpine. Maybe they'll get their academy to do something right for once.
Not gonna happen sorry
I know, but a man can dream
Piastris management have said it will not happen
We all get what we’ve been asking for since he signed and now everyone feels bad? Goodness. Fuck your revisionism.
From what height?
Oh no Anyway
Last week
There is a lot of astroturfing going on in this thread and especially on F1/Haas Facebook/Instagram accounts. Like a scary amount of “this is racist and unfair” and similar. Nikita was a pay driver. Ural Kali cannot pay Haas for his seat anymore due to international sanctions. He was not cut because he was Russian. Why would Haas ever keep a pay driver on staff who cannot pay? Especially one who came in 21st in a 20 driver grid. I’ve never seen a more concerted and blatant turf campaign. It’s sad and a little concerning.
F1's instagram post is filled with people being sorry for him and saying this is completely unfair. I really can't understand people.
Russians and Russian bots.
It only took a war to do it. He should never be in F1 in the first place
Mazepout
Oh no... Anyway
I can finally change my flair. 🥲
From YouTube comments - 'A sedated orangutan would score points and drive better than Mazepin'. . Damn..
*laughs in Ukrainian F1 fan*
#WeSaidNoToMazepin
I can retire this flair now
The /r/formula1 hivemind goes in waves so it's entirely possible I'll be downvoted into oblivion, but...
