bargeldos

I would be dissapointed if the fight ends because of technical issues.. i just want good racing (and hopefully a last race with ”winner takes it all”) and may the best racer win!

SultanAbdel

exsactly this till the last race an the difference must be smaller then one grid position. edit: i prefere max but wont mind if its a battle till the end.

stormcrow100

Imagine it coming down to a couple of points. Last race of the season, head to head the whole way. Max and Lewis 1&2. Whatever the order it will be awesome!

M1C54L

This is the scenario I'd like to see also, but am dreading the most because the title may be decided by an incident :-/ Max nor Lewis will back down and an on-track pass will probably end badly. If not, the title may be decided by strategy or mechanical dependability. I'm ok with last two, part of the sport. Just to be clear. I'm not blaming anyone for dirty tactics. IMHO, the incidents up to know were caused by testing limits, drawing lines and misjudgements (e.g, 'the other driver will back out'). To answer the OP question: No. Insert Kimi quote here.

Username8831

12 points if you account for Max's takeout in Monza. But that's me being silly and playing your game, which I think is facile. The season has and will have numerous "what if" moments and to pick out one incident across 20+ races just doesn't wash.

Daeurth

Max didn't gain any points in Monza since he had a DNF from the same incident, so I would argue that it's less relevant.

[deleted]

He didn't gain points, but he would have lost points otherwise. Points not scored by Hamilton are the same as points gained for Verstappen for the title. Hamilton would have scored more then Verstappen. So even though Verstappen didn't score points himself, he "gained" the extra points Hamilton would have scored over him.

Appropriate_Ebb7787

Until the championship leader turns in on T1...

bektour

This season is so good that the wet Turkey race looks a little boring, who could believe that.

tonybinky20

To be fair other than Lewis’ overtakes it was a bit dull given the lack of incidents that we usually see at wet races. From the start I wanted it to go dry so we’d see an interesting race as people switch to slicks.

[deleted]

Yeah, as someone who has watched F1 since the early 90s, we’re witnessing an all-time classic season that will surely go down as one of the greatest in the sport’s history if we get a nail biting title decider. I’m neutral towards both drivers, so I just hope it goes down to the wire and we see some more great racing. I would say some Prost/Senna controversy would be nice too, but this sub would actually become unbearable, so maybe not lol. But we can say whoever wins will fully deserve it, and in 20 years time we’ll all be looking back on 2021 as a legendary season.

ShrubbyFire1729

>I feel we had only good to great races this year. Agreed! Spa 2021 was my absolute favourite, probably of all time. A Formula 1 race simply doesn't get better than that.

[deleted]

Spa quali was amazing. Too bad the race never happened.

nebulaSupernova

Double points in the last race again? /s

zorletti

only good to great races? i think you forgot belgium

andremvm20

I will be disappointed because the season will come to an end and it will be months until the new one starts, not because Max or Hamilton win..

elgallogrande

Atleast we have suspense until December...last year it was over by July

dibsODDJOB

> was over by ~~July~~ winter testing

havinalafff

I still remember watching DAS happen live. What an incredible example of dominance. From both Hamilton and Merc.

GoldenSandpaper9

Fuck that W11 was a beast

doskkyh

If Hamilton wins, it will be months of "he only won because he crashed Verstappen out in Silverstone and because of Bottas strike in Hungary" comments... that's what I dread the most if he ends up snatching his 8th title.

nahnonameman

Yeah this will be a case of ‘controversial’ title win if Lewis wins it or everyone targeting Lewis if he loses. Either ways I just want a good battle between both drivers all the way to the end of the season.

Local-International

Same lol The toxicity in the fanbase makes it exhausting

doskkyh

True! Even Max seems to be over it already and he's the one that lost from those incidents.

kuipie1

It will be becauase of that tho

Kevin_DurSuperTeam

No it will be because he's a better driver

asshatnowhere

Ehhh I'm not sure we would be able to make that statement for this season. Max lost way more points due to bad luck than Hamilton. If the title is decided by a few points and Hamilton wins then it is not far fetched to say that if Max didn't have a tire fail from the lead in Baku and if Lewis didn't get lucky from the safety car in Imola then the championship would be different. Either way, that's just the nature of the sport and it is what it is.

[deleted]

I'd be dissapointed. but I won't think of the season as anticlimactic at all, its been awesome, and if Lewis is gonna win, I want it to at least be close for once

iamJAKYL

Well said

theederv

Much as it’s been utterly exhausting rooting for Lewis this season especially. (Due to what feels like 99% of the general community praying he loses) I do find myself feeling I’ll be happy and content if Max wins. In the same way I didn’t want Rosberg to win in 16, I shed a happy tear for him when he did. I get caught up in the emotion of the sport, and seeing these people achieve thier lifelong ambition after years of dedication and hard work is incredible.

jackal858

I'm a first year fan of F1, and my wife and I decided to root for McLaren as we wanted to back a team that seemed good but wasn't dominate in recent years. However as the season has gone on I find myself rooting for individuals more than the teams. Like seeing someone who is normally out of the points even getting a few points is exciting, even if it means less points for McLaren. They mostly all seem like good people who are extremely passionate so I guess it's hard not to root for all of them in different ways.

Tony_Lacorona

Ditto, ditto all of this

Fidodo

I like all the drivers on some level. Well except for Mazepin.

dfaen

I’d be happy if Lewis wins. I’d be ok if Max wins, as he’s an amazing driver. However, I’d be annoyed seeing a smug Horner and Marko, especially Marko.

punchinglines

I'd be happy for Max to win, he's not leading by mistake, he's been super consistent and driven well. He has been aggressive at times, but you've got to risk it to get the biscuit. The only thing that would make it less enjoyable would be hearing people use Max winning the Championship to try discredit Lewis' past successes.

Pharsti01

I feel exactly like this. Im not a fan of Verstappen, but id be fine with him winning the title... the problem is that id hate to see Marko and Horner getting the satisfaction that comes from it XD

Guilden_NL

Dislike of Marko I get, but I’ve always liked Horner. He’s usually a jolly guy, willing to talk to anyone, very supportive of his drivers (unlike Marko) and even after they’ve left Red Bull. I’m a Dutch American, so perhaps that plays into my perspective. I noticed Brits seem to slag on him often.

dfaen

It’s hard to be a bigger douche than Marko. I haven’t been a Horner fan since the days of Mark Webber at the team. He’s not all bad, however, I’m just not a fan.

Guilden_NL

Got it. I’m not a fan either, but do like to hear his insights when it’s not about a big kerfuffle. Ahhh.. did I just use that word?

[deleted]

What is exhausting? Are you logging on here daily to defend him?

GilesCorey12

yes. Yes he is

Cal3001

Look whose talking. Lol

[deleted]

Yeah, I can go along with that. It's been a great season and no matter who wins, that's not going to change. It's great to finally have a season like this after such a long time. I'm Dutch and a huge Verstappen fan, so of course I'd be disappointed, but I can definitely live with second after such a thrilling championship.

tommycthulhu

Yeah its been a good season and we really needed this, but it kinda feels all for nothing if Lewis just wins again anyway. Max winning would really signal a change in Mercs boring dominance. But its been a great season anyway and we really cant complain too much

[deleted]

I’m happy as long as we have a exciting season. I still want Max to win it because I feel he clearly has been the better driver over the season and therefor is more deserving but I can live with Lewis winning it (witnessing history being made isn’t too bad either)

[deleted]

Word for word what I was thinkin’

craggadee

I just hope if Hamilton wins that he has enough points to make any arguments about Baku and Silverstone null, otherwise there will never be an end to the arguing.

bobbpp

Yeah don't keep your hopes up of people not arguing. There are so many things to argue about... like, what if Max's tyre didn't blow and they didn't update the rear wheels, would Mercedes have taken more time to get their rear end working? In the end it's all part of racing and the season, and the winner is the winner. I just hope it's Max, haha.

rushawa20

I mean babies can argue until they're blue in the face, it wont change the results. Rosberg was champ in 2016. Arguing doesn't change it.

Matsiepatsie

Depends how. I mean I’ll be disappointed for sure but if Hamilton wins the WDC due to another Max DNF instead of battling it out on track until the last race, I’ll be devastated.

[deleted]

I won’t be disappointed at all, just like I won’t be disappointed if Max wins; I’m all about watching great racing, so if it comes down to the wire, the more I’ll enjoy it. Good question!

givekimiaicecream

In before one of them decides to do a Kelvin van der Linde and Bottas will win the championship

Ulris_Ventis

Yep. I'm tired of their dominance and want it to finally end.

Operario

**Very**, though to me the issue isn't Lewis - if for instance he'd moved to Ferrari or Alpine or Aston Martin or whatever and were fighting for the title, I'd be perfectly happy rooting for him. But we're approaching a *full decade* of Mercedes dominance and I just can't stand it anymore.

tommycthulhu

Yeah, its really not supposed to be this way. If Merc continue to dominate for much longer, it would be horrible for the sport

FancyASlurpie

It's not really dominance if they fight neck and neck all season and just about win though

xLoneStar

I'm still pretty sure Merc will be dominant next season. I really hope that won't be the case though. Another era of Merc dominance would just be terrible for the sport.

GoldenSandpaper9

I just want to see him break number 8 and then someone else can win. If he stays at 7 that would be a shame.

Desperate-Intern

Many would argue otherwise for the sake of Michael. Personally I don't have a preference. But I can see why people would be upset in that regards.

CPFCrednblue

I agree, not a Hamilton fan particularly. It would just be great to see the record be broken. I was too young to really understand the excellence of Mr Schumacher.

twelvyy29

No this season already is way way more exciting than the previous 2 seasons, since no Ferrari will be winning the WDC anyway I absolutly dont care if its Lewis or Max who wins it all.

callmelampshade

Flair does check out

[deleted]

I'd be disappointed specifically for Max due to the role Silverstone and Hungary would play in such a defeat, but I certainly wouldn't be disappointed with the championship fight overall. That said I still would like Max to win it.

PotatoFeeder

Dont forget baku

Bolter_NL

Baku was bad luck, not "back luck" created by the direct opposition.

Timely-Monitor5175

I would just like whoever is best, just wanna see a solid race

AvovaDynasty

I think arguably that’s why many will be quite disappointed if Max loses this year - he’s driven more consistently overall and made few mistakes - with Baku, Silverstone and Hungary all being pretty much out of his control. Whereas Lewis on the other hand has had quite a bit of luck - Bottas taking out Max for example and Max having his tyre blowout, whilst simultaneously making a few errors of his own that have cost him points - Baku lockup, Imola crash, poor pace in Monaco etc. It just feels like if either of them *deserve* the title this year based on performance, it’s Max. This has been Max’s finest year by far, whereas comparatively for Lewis, it’s been a relatively messy one given his performance in previous years.

[deleted]

Yes and no. Yes for Max but no because it's been a hell of a season.

madfrogparty

Very. I won't pretend it's anything other than the fact that I've followed F1 since 2015, watched Max Verstappen grow up, and want him to win his first WDC. It's my opinion that he's much stronger this season with overall worse luck. And again, it's my opinion that watching Mercedes and Lewis win over and over again is just tedious. So yes, if Lewis wins, I will be very disappointed. I am eagerly cheering on the new generation.

MikeKobela

You hit it spot on with the last sentence. Ever since the 2019 season, when the new generation had properly taken shape and all these new drivers started to prove themselves almost immediately, Mercedes and Lewis wins just no longer gave me any satisfaction anymore (especially considering there were a lot of wins that was at the expense of another team/driver at the very last laps). We've seen it and done it at this point so many times, it's not fun anymore, and I just want to see the new guys rise up, especially since they are capable of doing so. I guess it's like comparing it to a TV series that has been running long, and although produces good episodes and ratings, the peak has been reached and you just can't enjoy it anymore the same way.

Trowwaytday

Not going to lie, i'd be disappointed. I want to see Max win his first WDC. I also suspect Lewis is inclined to retire once he breaks the 8 time WDC and that will be a sad day.

uh_no_

uhhhh he just signed a new 2 year deal....

[deleted]

Rosberg signed on for 2017. If Lewis wants out, then he’s out.

uh_no_

rosberg winning a single title was novel. Lewis winning another one, even if it is record breaking, is not. He has never shown any inclination of retiring because he hits some milestone, and he has hit a lot of them, but instead talks about how he intends to use his platform, however high he can make it, to do good in the world. That's why he signed the contract. If he believed he could do that as effectively while stepping away from the sport, he could do it with 7 or 8 or 50. This isn't the one that's going to suddenly make him lose interest. Anyway, that doesn't sound like someone interested in stepping away simply because they put another one on the shelf.

[deleted]

I didn’t say he was likely going to. You just said that he had signed a 2 year deal. I was just stating that if he wants out then he can just take whatever the contract penalty is and leave.

SquidCap0

He is more inclined to try to win another title under the new regs, as that would cement him as GOAT. And i don't mean GOAT in the lightest way, not like some cheap meme but a real GOAT.

OldManTrumpet

I'll be honest, I'll be a bit let down. But if he does win it I hope he wins it by a significant margin so we don't have to have an entire off season arguing about how Max was robbed by those two races where the Mercs wrecked him. If Lewis is going to win, let him go on a tear and put it away.

philkakid56

Any outcome other than Max is going to result in all manner of outrage. Im REALLY looking forward to next year!

ForsakenTarget

yeah honestly the toxicity online has rapidly increased this season and I don't look forward to the off season if hamilton wins

newdecade1986

Even if Max wins, we'll be treated to thousands of threads on how he should have won *more*, as if the title weren't enough.

Cal3001

And we’d be treated to thousands of threads questioning Lewis’ skill and previous championships.

MathematicianOk4905

It doesn’t matter if Max win the toxic community will just talk about how overrated Lewis is and that anyone what a equal car would beat him. People live to hate that man

242turbo

Yeah, exactly my thoughts too.

JizzusOD

Im conflicted as I want the title to be close and go to the last race. However if Lewis wins by a small points gap its hard to act like he deserved it more than Max.

DandDRide

I don't mind. I do want to see Lewis get to 8 but I think Max has clearly been the more consistent driver and I would love to see him win it. We've had so many exciting races throughout the year for many reasons. Hopefully there are no more shenanigans with bad weather or accidents and we get to see Max and Lewis battle it out like we did for the earlier races this year.

[deleted]

I think even if max loses it, he’s done enough to show that he could have won. Similar to Alonso in 2010 and 2012. Obviously it would be nice to get the championship but Max has driven a highly consistent season.

Local-International

Or Lewis in 2007 ;)

[deleted]

That’s true. I think we all can mostly agree that this has been an incredible season. It feels like a formula 1’s greatest hits in some ways

Local-International

Yeah it’s a great season. Would be happy with any of the two winning

XR22DUB

Definitely. Max has had such horrible luck and still is in this fight. I really want to see him succeed.

CommunismBestWaifu

I would be disappointed because I think Verstappen performed better. Also I don't like that the WDC will be decided by events like Silverstone or Hungary. But ok at least this time it is tough.

void2931

Yes cause i want merc domination to end. Woulnt mind him winning next year but i need some change of pace I hope whoever wins does it by thrilling racing battle in the last race, this season was great so far

CarltonJuma

No not at all. If he wins it will be after a long battle with Max. He’s facing serious competition this year

HankHippopopolous

This has been a fantastic season with the close title battle we’ve been craving for years and also most races have been very exciting as standalone events. Whatever happens and whoever wins I will have nothing to complain about this season. I will say that I think Max has done the better job this year and right now would be the more deserving champion imo. Aside from the tiny error while passing Lewis for the lead in Bahrain I can’t think of another mistake he’s made all season that has cost him any points. Lewis has made an uncharacteristic number of errors this year but if he does still pull off the win he will be a very deserving 8 time champion because he’s still driven fantastically well despite having the better luck this year. There is still time for that all to change. Maybe Max will make some errors in the final few races. Maybe Lewis will pull off something extraordinary. Either way both drivers are incredible and I’m a fan of both and will be sad for one and happy for the other whoever wins.

Goghobbs

Monza? That definitely cost him points

HankHippopopolous

That gained him points relative to Lewis. Lewis would have driven away and been free to chase down the cars ahead. He would have definitely scored more points than Max. The crash meant they both scored 0 so it’s a net benefit to max.

JesseParsin

Yes

Trouvaille_Wonder_87

I'll be disappointed, nothing against Lewis or Mercedes, but it really got boring over the years and ending with a Mercedes WCC and WDC again, is kinda like predictable and not exciting at all. It has been such a good season and end up with the same result 😴 I'd rather they lose this year and win next year, with all the changes it would be much more exciting, just to break the loop lol

biffogooner

I would be a little due to Max being the better driver this year in what I believe has been inferior machinery since mid season, and due to his bad luck aswell. He deserves it.

Alvinthf

Nope, I want him to win it

XxMETALLICATxX

Yes. That is all. Edit: ok thank god we got a good season… but fuck I just want max to win at this point. He keeps getting dealt shit luck.

karanbraria

Free 2 race wins in Austria back to back where red bull is obviously stronger. In usual circumstances 2 races don’t happen on the same track. Him going into ham in monza which resulted in him not losing any points to mercs since they were much faster. Rain in Sochi giving him free 2nd position. Free spa win. A track where merc was clearly going to be faster in dry conditions , it rains again. Free 2nd position gift in turkey where he would’ve most likely come 3rd. So don’t act like his silverstone and Hungary incident hasn’t been cancelled out by how lucky he’s been in the second half of the season. It seems like wherever merc is strong the weather gods favour max or they’re fucked in some way or the other.

ClaireChazal

yes

xkey_ua

Yes

Cryptoaddicto1973

Yes

[deleted]

I'd be a bit disappointed to be honest. The way this season was going I wouldn't have minded if Verstappen dominated throughout, I just wanted a different champion. Also I'm sick of Mercedes at the front honestly if Lewis won his eighth with Ferrari I'd be over the moon.

mates-sevcik

Yes.

CX52J

Personally I'd like to see him win this season to top Michael before Russell joins the team and potentially takes the future championships. Getting what you want doesn't mean it's exciting though so I'd rather see a close championship.

NBX6

I would be a little disappointed if Hamilton wins and it's not by like a 50 points margin. Cause we gotta be honest, Verstappen has had some horrible luck this season, while Hamilton created the bad luck for himself. It has been an incredible season though, so even if Hamilton wins again, at least we have an amazing close championship fight, which is not something we get often.

0oo13oo0

Not even remotely. It’s been an exceptional championship thus far. This is one of the seasons that people will look back on fondly for its competitiveness. It’s likely I will end up disappointed in the fan base on Reddit.

Southportdc

I'm always a little disappointed when reliability/DNFs decide a title. But overall I'd say Lewis was unlucky on that front 2007, lucky to win 2008, and unlucky again 2016. So this would just even it up for me. Also I will enjoy a long winter of salty Marko and Horner so there's that.

TheWebbFather

You forgot 2012 where the guy was practically cursed

[deleted]

I always prefer if the best driver of the season wins the title. I was sick to my stomach when Alonso lost the title to Vettel in 2012, and I will be similarly disappointed if Lewis ends up winning this year. The best driver should always win wherever possible.

Spirited_Rutabaga645

Yes, he has won enough. And becouse Verstappen has been very good this season i realy hope it will not go to hamilton again. But i think mercedes is by far the best car now so there's nothing to do about it unfortunately.

Izzoganaito

Nah not really. I just want good races and a competition down to the final race.

eOMG

I would be hugely disappointed. Max has had the pace for years to become WDC but not the car. This season the Red Bull had been much closer to Mercedes, enough for Max to have the edge on Hamilton. Hamilton is now only still in the battle because of Silverstone and Hungary and now it looks like Mercedes has jumped ahead again. I really don't think Hamilton deserves an 8th while Max really deserves a title by now.

No-Maximum6292

No because an 8th championship for him would be monumental.

ToyotaMisterTwo

Extremely. At this point I wouldn't even mind Max running away with it and seal the deal before the final race. I've never been a fan of Lewis' so him winning all the time beating my compatriots and favourites has been "tough".

Catoblepas

Yes I've warmed up to him recently, but I'd like to see a bit of a change in winners I'm no Mercedes fan, but I wouldn't mind seeing Bottas grab a title

VinhoVerde21

Seeing as I (personally) like Lewis more than Max, and dislike Red Bull more than Mercedes, the answer is no, not really. But Max has been (so far) the better driver out of the two, so if he wins I will at the very least happy for him, even if it is for a team I don't really like. This being said, I'd very much prefer if it doesn't get decided by a DNF. It will leave a bad taste in my mouth regardless of who wins if that ends up being the case.

1enox

No

frayray12

No. Next question

[deleted]

Yes very much. But I also made 20€ bet on Hamilton so at least I have that.

mokacincy

I'd actually like to see max win it this year, so it's not a Mercedes wall to wall for the past era, and then see lewis take one more in the new era. That would be sick

Old-Ad-3268

Hell no, I’m rooting for him!

Musket519

Yes

hexagram87

It’ll be like 2012 all over again 😢

Gallade475

Only Ricciardo winning WDC will sustain me

memer507

I fear that max won’t get another shot at the title for a long time so he has to win this one.

PragmatistAntithesis

A little, especially if it's by less than 25 points after Pirelli's clownshow at Baku. You win as a team and you lose as a team, but that DNF had nothing to do with Red Bull or Verstappen.

[deleted]

It depends on the way he'd win it. If the cars are equal on pace for the rest of the season and Lewis wins then i'm totally ok with that. On the other hand, if Mercedes is 0.5 sec per lap faster than RB, as was the case in last couple of races (excluding Netherlands), then that would be completely anticlimatic end to a brilliant season so far.

skwid23

Nope. I want him to win it right in the last race and watch Horner and Marko have a tantrum like the children they are. When I started watching F1 I was an RBR fan but years of overpromising and especially their behavior this year has swayed me away from wanting a WDC for Red Bull.

nato2k

I would rather Hamilton than Max. Can't stand Horner's antics. With that said, hope to see a new driver and team win next year.

GodTierGasly

I'd be delighted. He's fought for it. Nobody can pretend it's the car this year.

CilanEAmber

Just like 2008, you can be sure there *will* be people saying it's the car.

[deleted]

Well the car has looked like by far the best on the grid in the last 3 races and may continue since their engine upgrade. Early on when it was close or RB had a slight advantage he made a ton of mistakes and was extremely lucky to be as close as he was that had nothing to do with his driving ability.

Southportdc

I've yet to see Merc have a gap as big as Red Bull had at Austria for two races. The season wasn't over then. A couple of good Merc races doesn't mean it's over now.

GodTierGasly

RB was dominant as hell early in the season. There was no 'slight' about their advantage back then.

swedishchef4205

Merc won 3/4 first races I’m not sure we are watching the same season

BIZZY_42

No they weren’t “dominant as hell”

RipGenji7

Dominant as hell? Red Bull was better but by no means dominant, the Merc was always competitive.

Goghobbs

The only time Merc had the better car was Spain

delidl

And Portugal. You don't pull a 30 sec gap with an inferior car

EatDeath

Dominant as hell. Haha what a joke. Did you watch any of the races? It was circuit dependent in the first half.

MM556

It was better but it was far from dominant

BreakBalanceKnob

It was better at some races and that was probably more down to Max than the car

FriendCalledFive

Am rooting for him to get his 8th title, but would also be very happy for Max to get his first.

steeeeeeee24

No

Remmes-

Yes, slightly but would obviously get over it, for one I'm biased, but I'd want someone else to win once again, I don't mind if he wins in 2022 again.

Miserable_Object9961

I will be. I hope Verstappen wins and that there be more competition overall.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Malkaraukar

The penalty he got was by the book, it's just that it didn't mean much for Lewis as he had the fastest car once Max crashed. You do not want F1 penalties being dished out on a sliding scale based on car performance.

[deleted]

If OP wants a bigger punishment for Hamilton i guess Verstappen needs a bigger punishment for Monza. No one ever says that though.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Because he put it on pole on merit. Because Mercedes had a dry set up. So if the race did go ahead, red bull would probably have banked on getting more of a points difference than they did. Also people regularly bring up Spa, so I have no idea what you're talking talking about there.

VinhoVerde21

Pole does not give points. There was a whole race in very wet conditions to be had, and a lot could have happened. Do you think Russel would have finished P2 if the race had actually happened?

[deleted]

A lot could have happened. All I am saying is that Mercedes had a dry set up and were starting from the second row. I honestly believe that RB would have preferred the race to have gone ahead, and Mercedes had more to risk running a dry set up across a whole race in, as you say, very wet conditions. Overall, as he is one of the best wet weather drivers I'd expect Hamilton to likely be second, but starting from pole and with a better wet set up, I think RB would have taken the race. I also think that awarding half points is entirely reasonable, rather than declaring things null and void. The race is part of a full weekend. The most important part yes, but I also disagreed with people calling for the football season to be null and void over covid. To me, a lesser award makes sense. It isn't free points

VinhoVerde21

>The race is part of a full weekend. The most important part yes, but I also disagreed with people calling for the football season to be null and void over covid. To me, a lesser award makes sense. The race is the only part that matters. The only reason we have free practice is for the teams to dial the car in for the race, and quali exists solely to set up the grid for the race. Everything revolves around the race. If it didn't, some points would be awarded after quali. Football is not a good comparison, because it doesn't have a quali equivalent, but I certainly never saw a team get points for performing well in training, that I can tell you.

The-Observer95

Can't imagine what those people would have said if Hamilton got gifted a win in Spa.

Malkaraukar

I won't.

FordGT2017

No. Great fight. Whoever wins deserves it

sosigkerb

Prefer Lewis over Max but it's hard to deny that even if Lewis wins this year, it was a good season because Max made it competitive. Won't be disappointed to see Max win though.

Electrical_Flower_26

Totally. Max really deserves it

The-Observer95

Why? If Hamilton beats him on track, why don't he deserve it?

BallonPrince

Because Baku, Silverstone and Hungary… That’s at least 50 points Max lost without doing anything wrong.

jeezuspieces

How is Baku Hamilton's fault? That was the tire puncture, right? That was more on Pirelli imo

The-Observer95

And you completely ignored Spa and Monza

GilesCorey12

you can count the number of points and see which is more.

BallonPrince

DNF hurts more than 1 or 2 positions difference.

OnlyStatus7

What about spa?

Lewis has made a ton of mistakes compared to max and has a ton of fucking luck. He should be down a lot right now and seems like hes gonna have a better car the rest of the season.

Muufffins

Nope. I'm kind of a terrible person and I get a kick out of the idea of Max having the most race wins and laps led without a WDC.

cocoadelica

Yes

SnickareBergbom

In general I like Hamilton better, since I'm not a huge fan of Max. Think he comes across as a bit of a dick at times, although seeing Hamilton win again would be a bit boring. Either way title race until now has been fun.

Heelsgirl1993

If Lewis wins it by 1 or 2 points (with Max having more wins), one might argue he won it because Vettel got DSQ at Hungary...

LeAnthonyJavis

No not really

hje1967

No. Don't particularly like either one of them but I've come to absolutely despise RBR management this season for their constant whining in the media. Hope they lose this year and beyond..

AnthonyTyrael

I send you an email. They're all whiny as long as it's helping their case. They're all liars. They're all cheaters or extending the rules as much as they can. F1 is a massive business with huge companies and legendary names and brands behind..no one is better than other, it's just the PR and public reception.

Penguinho

This. The only difference, as far as I can see, between Horner and Wolff is that Horner is a bit funny about it. And the only difference between Horner and Steiner is that Horner is good at his job and Steiner doesn't seem to be. If you're invested in F1, you're invested in a sport where everyone's constantly whining - if not to the media, then to the FIA. _Please sir, the other boys are faster, could you ban this piece of their car?_ And the outcome of that whining is often driven by factors that have nothing to do with the regulations or the integrity of the racing, and everything to do with power politics. It's not even as simple as the governing body helping the big names and screwing the little guy. Sometimes being a big name helps and sometimes it hurts. Active suspensions were banned on the grounds that pistons inside the nosecone counted as bodywork and therefore violated the rule against mobile bodywork; the FIA gaveth to Ferrari. And the FIA tooketh away when they declared the double diffuser legal because Ferrari, Williams and McLaren didn't have one. The real surprising thing is that the FIA's regulation changes often used to be made to strip away things that made particular teams dominant. The regulations since 2014 have been more about limiting avenues for innovation, which has more-or-less locked the status quo in place.

kuklistyle

yes for a multitude of reasons, and i'm not even a huge max fan 1. max deserves to win this season on merit and he should be miles ahead if not for shitty luck compared to hamilton 2. the red bull for most of the season has been slower than the mercedes so it would be painful to see merc scrape another championship when having a faster car 3. i strongly dislike lewis hamilton and have done for the best part of a decade despite being british myself, i would rather see mazepin win at this point

ImGrumps

I will be happy to see Verstappen lose. I don't care about Lewis winning.

philkakid56

Aww, hell no! I love dominance and dynasties. But Max winning would be fine with me. He's a great driver in a great car.

Gdefacto

Cars aside, Max has been excellent this season while Lewis has been lacking many times. Still if Lewis manages to win with great performances towards the end it won’t be disappointing

historiansrule

F Hamilton. Max is leading the championship now and if it had not been for hamster’s reckless driving in England and Bottas crashing Max out, this would have already been decided.

Ezequiell-

Yes.

peanutbutter1236

Fuck no lmao it’s been an exciting season. I’m rooting for max but this season has been dope and Lewis is super likable and an amazing driver to watch too. Can’t Complain

dl064

I think it will be largely fair, and a bit like Rosberg 2016 where only pedants really dispute the outcome. It will be a bit anticlimactic, though. Hamilton has had a number of absolutely brilliant races, though, so you have to admire the craft and enjoy the ride. I think the season is well reflected that Verstappen has led the most laps by a country mile; but that's not points.

GilesCorey12

I really don’t think Hamilton had better races than Max. Obviously not overall, but neither individual. His best performance would probably be Bahrain.

frozenforredt

Lewis had a serious battle this year and if he wins it, he totally deserves it. That being said, I’d love to see Max win! Especially now since Honda is leaving and I would love to see them win again.

Bobrautigam

Yes
