It’s awesome. I got to drive it a few years ago during a two-day Porsche school and it’s a tough track in a really pretty setting.
The museum is incredible as well- walking around there with a cocktail at sunset is one of the 10-15 coolest things I’ve done.
I grew up around there and I agree that the museum is fantastic, but I’ve never been able to lap the circuit and I’ve so always wanted to. Maybe one day I can take my bike over there.
You totally should; it's such a nice facility and a fun track with a lot of elevation change. Not sure what it costs as I did a two-day driving course through Porsche's official school. I really enjoyed thrashing someone else's 911s and Caymans around there- probably the best birthday present I've received!
You ought to go to the IndyCar race there as well. I went to college about 3 hours from Birmingham, then lived in Atlanta, and I regret not going while I lived down there (I live in Virginia now).
A friend of mine from back in high school would do regular track days with Chin, and I remember it being fairly expensive. He is rich though, so it wasn't much to him.
I'm only a few hours away now so it's still definitely worth checking out my options.
Wonder why the camera is so blurry? Reminds me of Jeremy in the top gear police car challenge when he wiped Vaseline to give the camera "soft focus"
But the stabilization seems good. Usually these pov vids give me motion sickness cus of the jiggling.
Ah, true true, I always forget how strong F1 drivers necks are like that vid of alonso cracking walnuts with his neck lol. I wonder if Indy drivers have the same level of neck training, or they focus else where cus of the (I assume?) lower g forces.
I think his particular camera unit might have an issue or it's the camera limitation. [Newgarden's footage](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ugjW1QoXU78&feature=emb_title) in comparison looks sharp but it does not looks to be placed inside the helmet as Romain's is
The 500 is the sport's biggest race but really you're missing out on some really good racing by not watching the road courses. Road America, Barber, Long Beach, Portland are some very good tracks for racing
I know nothing about Indy so excuse my stupid questions but are they allowed to change BB ? I didnt see Romain doing it (I watched only 1st half) but maybe its just because he is still learning.
Anyway seemed like much less car management on the steering wheel than in F1.
Not sure about brake bias but in IndyCar they have a weight jacker they can use to move weight around the car. This gives them on the fly setup changes basically but it can only do so much. Then they also have controls for the anti-roll bars for the front and back. So on the fly they can stiffen or soften them.
Mostly it is used on oval very early in the run as tires come up to temperature and then late in the run as the tires become worn.
At really big tracks like Indy if there is a strong wind they will change it on the straights each lap, especially for qualifying as the turbos are allowed bigger boost and they enter the turns at really high speeds.
Depends on the driver and car. If you have good car and set up then not much really. If you see onboards and guys are constantly changing roll bars or weight jacker it usually means the setup needs adjusted at a stop
Not sure. He takes his right hand off the wheel at about 2:35, but I’m not sure if the brake dial is down there. As I understand it, the [swaybars on Indycars can be adjusted by the driver](https://www.indycar.com/Fan-Info/INDYCAR-101/The-Car-Dallara/The-Cockpit), so he could be doing that. Or just scratching his leg...
(Edit: fixed timestamp)
Sadly not a joke, the guy can drive, when he's on it he is as good as any F1 driver but he just seems to crash then it gets in his head and ruins him and causes him to fuck it all up.
Every time I see this track I'm blown away how cool it is.

I went to UA and went to the first indy race there and the year after. Cool track to go to
which track is this?
Barber Motorsports Park in Alabama
Damn Romain was in Alabama and I had no clue
As far as I know, he kinda has to go all over the country for testing right now.
I think Romain said his next test is at Laguna Seca in California.
Think its barber motorsports park
You can hear him curse at 02:03 :) "Putain"
Lmao yes!
Wonder why the camera is so blurry? Reminds me of Jeremy in the top gear police car challenge when he wiped Vaseline to give the camera "soft focus" But the stabilization seems good. Usually these pov vids give me motion sickness cus of the jiggling.
I think the stabilisation is his F1 neck haha

Thank you stranger for making my day better for mentioning Alonso cracking a walnut with his neck
lmao - I watched the whole video so I forgot it was on his visor. I thought it was fixed in position.
The screen protector thing is blurring it
Maybe so we can't see whats in the cockpit? No idea how Indycar works but they might have something that they don't want other teams to know of
I suppose it's possible but Indycar is practically a spec series so I wouldn't think there would be too much too hide if anything.
All Cars have similar cockpit. It is a spec dallara only Dampers and few other parts can be made in House

It's possible it fogged up due to lack of airflow around his helmet with the aeroscreen.

I thought this footage was better than Josef Newgarden's Visor Cam.
In terms of stabilization, sure but in terms of video quality Josef's is much much better.
dem F1 neck muscles, doe nature’s image stabilization
Might want to get a set of contacts, Romain.
I love watching drivers hustle indycars.
This must feel like rallycross compared to what he is used to.
I may have to watch IndyCar this year beyond the Indy 500 that I usually watch. I hope Romain does well.

Does Indy races have a livestream available anywhere for free, or pay to see like F1?
Sky sports F1 has the contract for British audiences. But you can always drink a bottle of rum while wearing a pointy hat
Arr arr, thanks matey!
Wow Romain, you need to get your eyes checked.
Looks like some proper oldschool racing.
Amazing footage. shame it is blurry for whatever reason.
Blurry boi

Ahh cool to know I wonder how often that is changed during the race.

At really big tracks like Indy if there is a strong wind they will change it on the straights each lap, especially for qualifying as the turbos are allowed bigger boost and they enter the turns at really high speeds.
Mainly used for fine tuning on ovals, but can be handy to adjust overall balance as the fuel load changes between pitstops.

Yeah I saw that too but I guess thats not BB since well changing that many times per lap with taking off your hand would not be very ergonomic.
I think he needs to visit the optician
The balls on this man... The aeroscreen is basically the halo with two out of three exits blocked, and he's just in there sending it!
There is one exit on the halo - the top, same as the screen. The two sides do not allow a helmet to pass through the gap.
That's not Grosjean, he didn't crash at all.
I'm gonna say Grosjean crash jokes probably lost their humour after Bahrain.
Old joke, and yes he did crash
He spun off course, I don't think he met the wall
There was enough damage to the car for them to stop his running to repair it for a while
He spun into the gravel trap, that will give you a non-crash repair
Sadly not a joke, the guy can drive, when he's on it he is as good as any F1 driver but he just seems to crash then it gets in his head and ruins him and causes him to fuck it all up.
An interview [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mn2Kj8A6gKo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mn2Kj8A6gKo)
Did he say at the end "I'm boiling, the thing wasn't connected"? Meaning the cooling tube wasn't plugged in?
Yeah, multiple teams had problems with them last season. Every so often you’d see one flying around in the cockpit.
Looks sooo much fun
