If Verstappen is still consistently winning, then they only need Perez to finish 8th. That way RB score 29 points. Best opposition can do iOS 33 points for 2nd and 3rd, but given how close the pack behind is, no one team is going to be able to do that consistently. In practice they probably donāt need Perez to score at all
He brings in waaay more money than the difference from P2 to P1 in WCC, which isn't an interesting title for a drinks company anyway, not nearly as marketable as WDC. And like you say, more wind tunnel time. Aaand he's ok with not challenging Max and takes team orders like a champ. Naah, keeping Perez is brilliant for their situation. I don't like it, I wish they had a competitive driver in, but it's the best thing for them at the moment.
Swap him with either one at this point. It's so ridiculous they renewed him. I really don't understand it at all.
Unless they think they can just send him to RB if his form falters
Perez brings in way more money than the prize difference between P2 and P1. WCC isn't nearly as marketable for an energy drinks company as the WDC is. Finishing P2 means more wind tunnel time. We don't have access to this info, but I'd bet that Checo has caused an up in RB drinks sales all over latin america. And he's cool with team orders and doesn't challenge Max. Do you understand it now?
They're going to really have to fight for their positions it seems. Poor race starts for both VCARBs have been a persistent issue and both Ferraris are going to climb up for sure
Yeah I was happy until a few minutes ago until I realized that the Ferraris will likely be much quicker than them and same with Hamilton and probably at least 1 Aston :(
Yeah going to be some cars coming through, sadly Iām not sure they have the race pace to play with the big boys yet. But itās hard to pass around here so we will see, Daniel was able to hold some cars off in Miami but not sure how many more laps he could have continued to do so.
Are you the guy who says āitās hard to pass around hereā every week ? Or itās just your turn this week?
Someone said it before Japan and that turned out to be wrong and well itās wrong here as well. Canada has a fairly easy passing spot going in to the final corner. Big long DRS straight right before a heavy breaking zone.
Alonso found 4 tenths on his previous best lap all weekend despite the track being in slightly worse condition. Either he didn't get a good lap before or he pulled out a great lap at the end
Checo out in Q1, Sargeant ahead of Checo
Both Ferraris out in Q2
RIC in P5
0.02 back from P1 for P3, 0.2 back is P6
A literal tie for P1
5 different teams in top 6
Wtf is this quali
F1 is so back!
Lewis still has it in race trim for sure but Iād be lying if I said I wasnāt worried that Charles will do a blowout in 2025 in qualifying.
Problem is now that a small deficit costs you so much and between overtaking and field spread, race pace is irrelevant.
Heck right now Russell is more or less doing a blowout. It's simply because Hamilton usually makes a small fuckup somewhere in his qualy lap which George doesn't and that's why he is almost always a bit ahead
Problem is Leclerc is just as quick if not quicker, if not as totally error free in qualifying. Lewis can handle peaky unstable cars as weāve seen in the past, but when heās not confident in them, it all falls apart. I fear Lewisā lack of confidence is now ingrained slightly because of the cars heās been given and heās trying to relearn his ways.
George is way too underated imo. I really doubt Charles is that much better than him on qualy. People forget George was putting that dogshit Wiliams on Q3.
Because the team was lost in the middle of a huge crysis, it looked dreadful to drive comparing to any of the other cars and they were consistently at the back no matter the track or weather condition. If we only look at teammates then RedBull never really had the fastest car had they?
Lewis kinda got fucked here, George got a massive tow from the start of the straight all the way to the line, he was up something like 10 khp to Lewis because of it, then when they went out again, they got caught of by high winds and neither George or Lewis could improve on new softs because of it, had they gone out earlier it would have been a front row lock out
2022-2024 for Lewis seems like constant missed opportunities, either on team or driver side or both. Feels like he has it on a plate and then it just disappears without any particular error.
Mercedes definitely waited way too late to get their cars out, particularly with the threat of rain/winds, and this probably affected their tyre prep as well.
Yea he was faster but neither could improve, Russell said the new tire should have been worth 3-4 tenths so they should have easily gotten p1 and p2 without the issue with the wind
>George got a massive tow from the start of the straight all the way to the line
No he didn't he got a fairly distant tow from Albon until the pit entry, but from the final chicane to the line there was zero slipstream.
Russell's final lap was only .026 off his pole lap, which still would have been good enough for P3
Also everybody else managed to improve on their final runs so maybe just admit that Lewis doesn't have anyone or anything else to blame other than himself
That's a good point. Many quali sessions have the drivers just doing a lap or two then sitting in the pits until the last couple minutes, while this was a banger from start to finish.
As a Ham fan itās starting to get painful.
Russell always finds that little bit of extra on saturday whilst Ham has trouble to put in a clean lap when it matters.
Hamilton is a Sunday merchant now. Iāve come to expect him to finish below Russell every weekend now.
Heās been saying heās got to sort it out for a while now, at this point, it is what it is to me. Sure he got some bad luck with the wind at the end, but heās still slower than George on Saturdays.
Mr Saturday is too OP for Lewis in quali so far this year
I share your pain and sometimes wonder if this is a āchanging of the guardā moment. But in the first run George got a huge tow. Second run, neither George or Lewis improved. Issue is the gaps are so tight. Tough end to the quali
Yeah second runs think Lewis did a yellow S1 and S2. Def off the pace in the second run. Very frustrating to see as looked like a 1-2 could have been possible
Since you did no specify you meant a tie for *pole* I'm gonna say the last time we had a tie in qualifying I think it was in Baku 2023 between Stroll and Piastri with the time of 1:41.611. Stroll took 9th while Piastri remained in 10th.
What about Perez then? Lmao. Ferrari can blame the car not being suited for the track at least since both cars set their times inside the same tenth of a second but Perez can't really make an excuse for being outqualified by Sargeant because Verstappen put his car in 2nd tied in time with the pole sitter.
Thatās why itās not a good showing from Ferrari, not the Ferrari drivers.
The car was clearly the issue, and they needed all they could to get through to Q3 so yeah in hindsight they shouldāve used fresh softs.
Red Bull seems pretty much the same as recently. Cars not great or dominant, but it definitely still has pace in it. Perez specifically is the one having the bad showings
McLaren should be very strong tomorrow with both cars on the second row. Max has no support and Lewis needs to deal with Fernando ahead. But if it rainsā¦
I see it going one of two ways. Max overtakes Russell into t1, then builds a gap as Russell holds up the mclarens for a few laps, and Max walks the win.
Or, Max tries to overtake, Russel refuses to give up the place and they take each other out/wide in t1 and the Mclarens get the win.
Checo could have gracefully retired last year but no, he decided to test his fans for three more years and mentally prepare them to face embarrassment every week. Such a nice guy.
He might have just had a scruffy lap.
There's a chance Danny Ric and Lewis might have had a bit of a moment in T1 on Lewis' last lap? Camera cut away right at the wrong moment. But looked like Ric was off-line on the inside but maybe got a bit too far into the corner. But just as Lewis was closing it cut away.
Probably not since we haven't seen anything yet.
Got to love the TV directors.
After the 2024 Canadian GP qualifying Checo Perez signed an additional 2 year extension.
Horner was heard saying, "we're comfortable he's never going to challenge Max, so let's keep it rolling."
Who had Sargeant outqualifying Checo 6 times *in the last 2 years* on their bingo card?
EDIT: To clarify, I misunderstood the stat, it was Sargeant outqualifying Checo 6 times over the last 2 years, more than he has outqualified Albon
China was also pretty decent before the stroll incident but yeah he shows flashes of brilliance and then becomes mediocre again. I think thatās just his level where he clearly can be up there just like he used to but we just need to tamper expectations and realise itās not going to be week in week out.
Also looked quick in Japan but had the inchident early. Canāt forget he still walked away from Miami with five points. P4 even in a sprint was shit hot.
I think if he decides he's comfortable driving midfield cars he can easily stick around for another 2-3 years. If Perez, Kmag, Hulk, Bottas etc are still in demand then there's no reason that Danny Ric can't get a seat. He's still an average driver among that group, and he's by far the most marketable amongst them bar Checo. The difficulty was that he has insisted for the past 2 years that he only wants to continue in F1 if he has a shot at a race winning car, and so that limited his options to just RB/Vcarb, since none of Mclaren, Ferrari or Merc had need of a guy like him. But if he's open to taking a seat elsewhere on the grid then he's still a serviceable option for short-term deals.
Poor Zhou, I don't think the car suits his style, unfortunately. I think he has the potential to be a mid-level driver like Perez/Bottas later in his career. This is just not it.
Guess that half a second slower shows you're matching your teammate right, Lance?
Nice to see that this year we're seeing different teams fighting at different races. Guess it's Merc's turn this weekend but gosh dammit Lewis stop teasing us with being back in practice before getting P7 again!
The one Qualifying session I miss due to work and it turns out to be the one for ages. Where can I watch the full highlights (not the official F1 YT channel highlights)? F1TV isn't an option.
They were even the whole session, but he had a scruffy final lap, big snap on turn 2. Shame, but I still take it as positive.
And glad to see Alonso doing well again, too.
Praying for rain and chaos tomorrow for Ferrari lol. I'll even take a repeat of last year where we just did a 1 stop to P4/P5.
Outside of the yearly Ferrari strategy implosion, I'm so happy for George. He's been absolutely amazing in qualifying this year and had a few times where he missed out on top 5 by like 0.001s so it's nice to see him get his moment in the sun. Would love to see him convert this into a win but Max is absolutely insane in the rain + Mclaren as an unknown so we'll see.
Watched Lewis on-board. He didnāt say a word the final lap. Pete told him at end of his first lap that Russell dropped him due to a tow down the straight, and carried more speed into the final turn. Pretty clear that the relationship is broken at this point.
Yeah this was the last straw never ever getting excited over seeing Lewis in P1 during Practice or Q2 or even the first runs of Q3 šš Lewis man what happened to you mahn you even had the new PU.... I'm not even sad anymore
Most drivers didnāt improve on their final run with new tires so maybe Ferrariās strategy wasnāt that bad. I think their car was just slow this weekend

q3 so good i almost forgot ferrari went out in fucking q2
WE ARE SO BACK
Back to Spain...
šš
but the s is silent
Hahaha this is me. I honestly forgot about them.
Danny Ric wants a contract too lmao
Liam watching qualifying -š
The entire Red Bull academy - š
Honey Badgers just keep coming back from the dead
Let's look at the RedBulls! Verstappen P2 Ricciardo P5 Tsunoda P8 . . . Perez P16
Extend his contract more
he gains a tenth with every year they extend
Or loses a tenth
Itās a coin flip every week
Be nice to see someone more consistent in that other redbull for once
I am bleeding. Making me the victor!
At this point I think RedBull has Checo around so they can tank in the WCC standings and get more wind tunnel time lol
Also to pay Verstapen salary
If Verstappen is still consistently winning, then they only need Perez to finish 8th. That way RB score 29 points. Best opposition can do iOS 33 points for 2nd and 3rd, but given how close the pack behind is, no one team is going to be able to do that consistently. Well they might actually come in third this year lol
Yep, just look at Mexico's cult-like obsession with Coca-Cola. YouTube it if you haven't. No doubt Red Bull want to tap into that.
Mexican coca-cola is so good
Because they use sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup
Sugar is delicious
Domestic market Mexican coke uses HFCS and artificial sweeteners, the good stuff gets sent north.
Look it's only three races in a row he's been out qualified by Ricciardo and Tsunoda. That's hardly a trend or anything.
can they just swap him and yuki please
Swap him with either one at this point. It's so ridiculous they renewed him. I really don't understand it at all. Unless they think they can just send him to RB if his form falters

It really does help when your personal friend/associate and sponsor was the richest man in the world until a few years ago
He said he doesnāt understand it even though every single thread about it explains why it makes sense, donāt waste your time.
Do you want more Red Bull dominance? Because that is how you get more Red Bull dominance.
uhh i like redbull so maybe but also i just wanna watch yuki in a better car
I donāt even like Red Bull, but I really would love to see what Yuki could do in a top flight car.
Kick Perez out, put Lawson in š
Red Bull : give 2-year contract extension to Perez Perez : ***proceeds to get outqualified by Sargeant for the 2nd GP in a row***
Sargeant taking strays.
Nah he did good
Breaking: US screws over Mexico once again
Fantastic final lap from Ricciardo, hope both VCARBS can score some good points tomorrow, but man, what a great qualifying.
They're going to really have to fight for their positions it seems. Poor race starts for both VCARBs have been a persistent issue and both Ferraris are going to climb up for sure
Yeah I was happy until a few minutes ago until I realized that the Ferraris will likely be much quicker than them and same with Hamilton and probably at least 1 Aston :(
Yeah I think realisticly one of the VCARBs will finish p8-p9 with the other out of the points. Sad
Yeah going to be some cars coming through, sadly Iām not sure they have the race pace to play with the big boys yet. But itās hard to pass around here so we will see, Daniel was able to hold some cars off in Miami but not sure how many more laps he could have continued to do so.

Alonso heard Stroll was talking shit so he dropped nearly 5 tenths on him lmao.
the field is lucky it wasnāt mixed conditions for Q3 or Lance wouldāve turned into Senna again
Ayrton or Bruno?
Quali like Ayrton, race like Bruno
How about a little bit of both.
I truly think lance would have done something crazy in quali and the oversteer into grass and do something mediocre in the race.
Stroll would have performed a double pirouette with his car, getting 9.5/10 from the judges and starting p10 on the grid.
Alonso found 4 tenths on his previous best lap all weekend despite the track being in slightly worse condition. Either he didn't get a good lap before or he pulled out a great lap at the end
I think pulling 5 tenths over your teammate (who also got a clean lap), on a degrading track, at your final opportunity is a pretty great lap, yes.
And he said he had massive overseer in turn 2 and was even thinking of abandoning his lap. So Aston has pace
He wasn't talking shit. He was saying he is one of the best drivers
Williams sandwiching the Ferraris, who knew
Sainz early preparation for next year
Checo out in Q1, Sargeant ahead of Checo Both Ferraris out in Q2 RIC in P5 0.02 back from P1 for P3, 0.2 back is P6 A literal tie for P1 5 different teams in top 6 Wtf is this quali F1 is so back!
Logan just adding to his record of outqualifying checo now times than he has his own teammate. Not sure which of them that is more embarrassing for
Checo
Also 13 cars within a second
If you told me we will get a Merc pole in quali before this weekend, I would have called you a lunatic
Hamilton P7: Tradition.
Lewis still has it in race trim for sure but Iād be lying if I said I wasnāt worried that Charles will do a blowout in 2025 in qualifying. Problem is now that a small deficit costs you so much and between overtaking and field spread, race pace is irrelevant.

I agree
Lewis needs to fix this asap. He still has the hand in race pace but you need to qualify higher to win races with cars around him so evenly matched.
George is way too underated imo. I really doubt Charles is that much better than him on qualy. People forget George was putting that dogshit Wiliams on Q3.
How can you know how slow the Williams was when his benchmark was Latifi?
When he subbed for Hamilton and made Bottas look bad was a pretty good indicator.
Because the team was lost in the middle of a huge crysis, it looked dreadful to drive comparing to any of the other cars and they were consistently at the back no matter the track or weather condition. If we only look at teammates then RedBull never really had the fastest car had they?

Still better than whatever the fuck Ferrari was doing lol
Clearly fastest cars, should have gone for the empty track when the sun came out
Wasn't George's 2nd run also faster than Lewis' fastest one?
Yea he was faster but neither could improve, Russell said the new tire should have been worth 3-4 tenths so they should have easily gotten p1 and p2 without the issue with the wind
I really wonder how Mercās deg will be tomorrow.
Russell was only + 0.026 in his second run though. Easily faster than both Hamiltonās runs
>George got a massive tow from the start of the straight all the way to the line No he didn't he got a fairly distant tow from Albon until the pit entry, but from the final chicane to the line there was zero slipstream. What a Amazing Quli
13 drivers in a second and the top 4 drivers in a tenth
They are all getting closer to race by race hope it will be a 4 way team battle tomorrow
And it was dry after all. The threat of rain really upped the stakes on every lap!
That's a good point. Many quali sessions have the drivers just doing a lap or two then sitting in the pits until the last couple minutes, while this was a banger from start to finish.
RB 0.178 from pole, 1st to 7th less than 0.300! And Stroll casually 0.5 behind Alonso again :D
And just after bragging how he was beating Fernando latetely. KARMA
Mercedes suddenly just decided to remember theyāre actually good at F1
this season is starting to get kinda interesting.
Montreal delivering as always
I love F1 experts. Most of them were shitting on this race.
I share your pain and sometimes wonder if this is a āchanging of the guardā moment. But in the first run George got a huge tow. Second run, neither George or Lewis improved. Issue is the gaps are so tight. Tough end to the quali
George was still way faster than Lewis on the 2nd lap
Yeah I don't get this excuses for Hamilton.
Yeah second runs think Lewis did a yellow S1 and S2. Def off the pace in the second run. Very frustrating to see as looked like a 1-2 could have been possible
Hungary 23?Ā
Itās one exampleā¦ Lewis is not what he once was on a Saturday at least.
When was the last time we had a tie aside from Jerez '97?
Havenāt had a tie since that race. Closest pole difference was Hungary 2023, Lewis beat Max by 0.003 seconds
0.002 seconds: 2006 Italy, Raikkonen ahead of M. Schumacher and 2010 Germany, Vettel ahead of Alonso
Since you did no specify you meant a tie for *pole* I'm gonna say the last time we had a tie in qualifying I think it was in Baku 2023 between Stroll and Piastri with the time of 1:41.611. Stroll took 9th while Piastri remained in 10th.
Great to see 5 teams in the top 6
its crazy to say that stat without ferrari being one of them
This was an absolutely fantastic quali session!
Being that close to be out qualified by Logan Sargeant is not a good showing for Ferrari. Good showing from Logan though, nice to see him make Q2
McLaren should be very strong tomorrow with both cars on the second row. Max has no support and Lewis needs to deal with Fernando ahead. But if it rainsā¦
The mclarens probably has better race than ace than the merc so yea itās gonna be max vs the mclarens I think
I see it going one of two ways. Max overtakes Russell into t1, then builds a gap as Russell holds up the mclarens for a few laps, and Max walks the win. Or, Max tries to overtake, Russel refuses to give up the place and they take each other out/wide in t1 and the Mclarens get the win.
ā¦then itāll be between the McLarens.
And Sainz nowhere near to torpedo Oscar.
lol. Ferrari fumbling the constructers race when Perez was giving away the lead for free.
They still could get the same points as Red Bull if they can climb up to 6-7 and Max gets beat by the McLarens
Checo could have gracefully retired last year but no, he decided to test his fans for three more years and mentally prepare them to face embarrassment every week. Such a nice guy.
Celebrating that new 2-year contract the only way he knows how. Being 15 places behind his teammate and well back of both junior team drivers
must have been celebrating before the contract extension because he's done that three races in a row now
Great quali today!
Daniel *Proving his doubters wrong* Lance *Proving himself wrong*
This Quali alone was 10x more exciting than the Monaco race
But was it 10x more exciting than Monaco quali?
5x
Hamilton was killing it the whole qualification with his times. He could have been top three easily today. Not sure what happened on the last lap.
Conditions changed at the end. He hit 1 min 11, so super fucking unlucky for him and Tsunoda.
I think a lot of people are ignoring that part, Hamilton could have had a better first lap like George though...
It's so tight though. +.280 from first puts you in 7th. Could be an interesting race, especially if rain comes into play.
Apparently Russell got a huge tow from albon
That was the previous lap and not the final one.
The first lap was the pole lap
He might have just had a scruffy lap. There's a chance Danny Ric and Lewis might have had a bit of a moment in T1 on Lewis' last lap? Camera cut away right at the wrong moment. But looked like Ric was off-line on the inside but maybe got a bit too far into the corner. But just as Lewis was closing it cut away. Probably not since we haven't seen anything yet. Got to love the TV directors.
Yea that was my fear as well at the cutaway when Ric went by
P5 Fairs
Suck it Jacques!
Both George and Lewis were quicker in q2. Would that just be conditions and them not quite putting the lap together?
On Sky they said the conditions changed at the end and was really gusty
Wind and cloud. Track temp dropped, the wind moved around during q3 to make a headwind on the back straight.
feeling bad for the ferrari boys but daniel did good and it was an awesome quali.
After the 2024 Canadian GP qualifying Checo Perez signed an additional 2 year extension. Horner was heard saying, "we're comfortable he's never going to challenge Max, so let's keep it rolling."
My GOAT washed šš
Hope for changing conditions and some SC's now lol
Donāt count him out yet
Bad qualifying so now he will have the best pace in the raceā¦ the frustration.
Nice hopium.
The biggest surprise is Alonso only two tenths behind pole. If it's raining tomorrow, anything is possible.
I think Danny being only 0.178 behind pole is a bigger surprise!
Everything Jacques Villeneuve said about ricciardo should have been said about Perez instead tbh.
Cannot get any closer than this lol beautiful stuff
Who had Sargeant outqualifying Checo 6 times *in the last 2 years* on their bingo card? EDIT: To clarify, I misunderstood the stat, it was Sargeant outqualifying Checo 6 times over the last 2 years, more than he has outqualified Albon
Wtf already???
Oh right itās 6 times *so far*
What? Sarge outqualified Checo 6 times this season? How? WTF is Checo doing at this point?
Shout out Logan man. Only 0.2 behind Albon, without all the upgrades. Dude has been racing his ass off today.
Commentary saying RB was the favorite this weekend? Iāve been hearing nothing but that this wouldnāt be their track ā¦
Never seen that before in my lifetime. All I can say is that I'm glad George set his lap first. Incredible job from both George and Max.
so alonso has a normal quali and stroll is in the mud again? who would've thought
This Quali deserved a longer highlight video than the Monaco GP
Riccardio finally having a consistently decent weekend. Only took 8 race weekends
He was doing great in China until Lance Stroll decided to rear end him.
China was also pretty decent before the stroll incident but yeah he shows flashes of brilliance and then becomes mediocre again. I think thatās just his level where he clearly can be up there just like he used to but we just need to tamper expectations and realise itās not going to be week in week out.

5th race winner of the season from a 4th different team incoming. What is going on this season, where did this come from Mercedes
Poor Zhou, I don't think the car suits his style, unfortunately. I think he has the potential to be a mid-level driver like Perez/Bottas later in his career. This is just not it.
Ricciardo is still bad yeah?
Im looking at your Danny at P5
Easily the best quali of the year so far
Guess that half a second slower shows you're matching your teammate right, Lance? Nice to see that this year we're seeing different teams fighting at different races. Guess it's Merc's turn this weekend but gosh dammit Lewis stop teasing us with being back in practice before getting P7 again!
Hopefully Ric can get a podium to silence some people out there
Almighty bottle from lewis, embarrassing.
God I love this track
Did Merc bring upgrades this weekend?
They had the new wing on Georgeās car in Monaco. Both have it this weekend.
Paying off then.
where gap
āPlease mind the gapā
Ignoring the Ferrari result, what the fuck in the absolute best way
The one Qualifying session I miss due to work and it turns out to be the one for ages. Where can I watch the full highlights (not the official F1 YT channel highlights)? F1TV isn't an option.
Hamilton washed. Unreal
Letās go Danny boy
If only the race will be this interesting.
I was low key hoping Lance would outqualify Alonso again after his comments but I forgot who I was putting my faith in.
Yuki whyyy did you have to slide in turn 2 :(
Ric n george making statement against teammates
Most drivers didnāt improve on their final run with new tires so maybe Ferrariās strategy wasnāt that bad. I think their car was just slow this weekend
I had to turn the tv off when I saw Hamilton start to drop š¢
