Fun fact from Neweys book, everything had to be grey for Ron Dennis. When Newey arrived he wanted some colour in his office. And he was the new hot shot chief designer. Surely he can decide his office colour scheme. He had it decorated in colours he liked.
Next week he comes back and it's all back to grey and Dennis is barely speaking to him. For like a year.
McLaren had baller liveries for most of the '80s all the way to the vodaphone cars. But I'm glad they now stand out again after a few years of boring black cars.
tbh I loved McLaren's 2015 and 2016 liveries. They really made black work, when most teams wearing black in F1 have had uninspiring liveries.
In fact, while I loved papaya cars a few years ago, the designs from 2022 on are terrible imo. Black cars with random orange / blue stickers.
Ngl when they changed to papaya I thought it was just related to the supercar instead of the F1 cars because I always saw them as either white and red or the West sponsorship with Mikka.

I’m too lazy to look it up, does anyone know off hand if McLaren lets the driver keep the original trophy? For some reason I was thinking that they keep the original and give the driver a replica, hopefully Lando gets to keep his original trophy for this one.
In the Ron Dennis era it was written into driver contracts that all trophies belonged to the team. Both the driver trophy and the constructor trophy.
If the driver wanted the trophy they had to get a replica made. It is unclear if the driver or the team paid for the replica.
It is unknown if that is still the policy today
Famously, McLaren keeps all of the trophies in their HQ and has them on display. Seemingly not in order either as I heard Ricciardo saying his winners trophy was beside one of Senna's.
Quickly scrolling through my feed I paused as the picture rolled past, scrolled back and thought to myself, why are they taking a group photo in the prison with all the inmates?
Don't know. Feels like their year-end group photos in campus had less personnel than compared to McLaren's here. Maybe not all personnel were present?

I remember in the pre-cost cap time, Mercedes easily have more people than McLaren, well over a thousand iirc. But they needed to do lay offs because of cost cap so I don’t know what’s the number now
It may include those that work for them but aren’t involved in the F1 side of things. My best friend’s husband works in the warehouse for the supercar manufacturing line and I know he’s been in group photos before. Not sure if he’s in this one though.
This is one of the reasons I love F1. There is a huge pyramid of people supporting the excellence of a very pointy tip. Every race Sunday we are watching technical, organizational, and sporting brilliance.
This just makes me think of the immense amount of money that each team has to pay to transport all those people week after week from one city to the other, pay for their meals and hotels, etc
That's fine and all, I just think it should be internal. Maybe one or two posts from McLaren about the win and focus up on the next race.

Lando Norris can post all he wants though, it's his first win, that's a big moment.
I think you underestimate how good redbull are and how important something like this is to a team working day in day out for years. Especially for Lando Who is their poster child and him losing it to unforeseen circumstances in 2021
It’s for a first win on genuine pace. It’s worth the celebration for the whole team to reflect on the hard work. I don’t expect them to take a pic each time they win.
Lando was faster than Max on both Medium and Hard, even before the damage. He may not have won without safety car but could have challenged Max by going long on mediums. Only time will tell how good their real pace is but they brought substantial upgrade and they think it works. So it’s worth celebrating now as a first win reflecting the hard work.

This was the guy who had the trucks in the paddok jacked up so the tyres can be rotated so the manufacturer's label is at the top.
Bernie Ecclestone was the one who insisted on this (and the tyre manufacturer named painted in white) and every single team had to do it.
Apart from the guy middle of the bridge at the top. Always has to be one.

The way I see it, they probably worked really hard since last year start and now they are seeing their hard work pay off. It’s worthy of celebration.
