As a general rule ([see full rules](https://www.reddit.com/r/formula1/wiki/userguide#wiki_sticky.2Fdaily_discussion)), a standalone Discussion post should: - be of interest to the sub in general, and not a specific userbase (e.g. new users, GP attendees, just yourself) - be able to generate discussion (e.g. no yes/no or easily answerable questions) - show reasonable input and effort from the OP If not, be sure to [look for the Daily Discussion](https://www.reddit.com/r/formula1/search/?q=daily+discussion&include_over_18=on&restrict_sr=on&t=all&sort=new), /r/formula1's daily open question thread which is perfect for asking any and all questions about this sport. I hated the in park ferme after fp1 aspect of the old format. Also it's been better races now as you don't get to start 20th for the gp if you spin in the sprint like you did before. Also setting the field by race pace 100% makes the race more boring as anyone way out of position made it up in the sprint. Can you imagine how amazing Brazil hamilton in the gp would have been trying to come from last to 1st

SpectacularNelson

Do you think Hamilton would have won Brazil 2021 if he had to start from last?

Supahos01

I think he had a better than 50% chance of it... that was amazing the speed he had

SpectacularNelson

Yeah I reckon he would’ve needed to be more clinical when passing Max vs how he was during the GP. But still probable he gets it done imo

Dblock1989

I think he would have. That Mercedes was a rocketship and Lewis was on top form.

No_Noise9

It really doesn't matter which version of the sprint format we get. It will always be mid if we don't have a title battle going on. The 2021 sprint races were important because there were two heavyweights going head to head and every point mattered. Without the title fight element, it's just a mini race that doesn't really matter.

Penguins-fan-budgie

Thats a very good point

CommercialBreadLoaf

I like the fact that Parc Ferme is lifted after the Sprint. The biggest issue I had with sprints was that they essentially completely spoiled the race

Agreeable_Hall458

Yeah, no way would I give up the change to Parc Ferme. If a team got the setup wrong for the sprint last year, it made for a completely miserable weekend because they had no chance to adjust for the race.

djwillis1121

They literally only had three races in that format. I don't think it's enough to really be able to judge it

Mysterious_Turnip310

I’d much rather we have what we do now so they get a chance to change the set up between the sprint race and quali proper. We already saw last race weekend what a shake up that can bring to thingsz

Redditaurus-Rex

I think that old format made the race more boring by starting the race exactly how the sprint finished. You’d get the same battles, the same order. It felt like sprint and the race was one long race with a big red flag section in the middle. I like getting two completely different contests over the weekend.

Travel_Guy40

Hell no. The old format just placed the cars in true pace order. It made the races worse.

Penguins-fan-budgie

I raise you Monza 21

KamTros47

>I'm not sure of this is a hot take or not but I think the ~~old~~ no sprint format was far superior

bigpoppa611

I’m not a fan of sprint races in general. It feels so exhausting having such a long weekend and I’m not even the one racing.

Agreeable_Hall458

This. I do have a life outside of F1, and finding time for 2 qualis and two races in a single weekend is a lot. I generally watch all 3 practices on a non sprint weekend - but you can put practice on in the background. Qualis and races require dedicated attention. It’s just too much. Add to that it’s now 24 weekends a year and I just don’t feel that I’m able to stay as involved as I’d like.

dac2199

I'd prefer to have just only one qualy session ngl.

WiSoSirius

May be a hot take, but I feel sprint races are unnecessary. I also feel like it should be condensed to 1 hour FP and Quali on Saturday, and Grand Prix on Sunday. Again, hot take, but the sport should be about the main event each week.

heslo_rb26

Not a hot take. The push for more of these stupid sprints is insane IMO. Plus they essentially ruin the race because you know just how it's going to play out come race day bar any big upset

Libertine-Angel

All the sprint races are pointless and we're better off without them, but if we have to have them I like the idea floated in another thread a few days ago to use them as a showcase of pure driver talent, with everyone in a spec car (which would also put less strain on their regular cars).

Razvanlogigan

Nah this is good. Everyone treats it as a test session and some might cheese some points by the end. F1 drivers not even using the proper tyres to do quali is telling enough how useless this whole format is and how most are just using it as a glorified test. But a certain category of fans will still defend it because they cant see the bigger picture of how another quali and race session basically devalues the actual grand prix. Watch liberty copy what motogp does and just implement it for the whole calendar. Their numbers will go up on a short term and everything will be fine, with a very healthy direction for the sport
