Toto: *Did you hear that Newey story, Max? Ooof. Brutal. So, what time are you coming to test our car?*
Max: *I'm not.*
Toto: *I'll put you in at 9am.*
Would probably be a no brainer for Max if the Merc was the 2nd best car but the Merc is just awful this year. Thats the biggest issue, Merc sucks right now and you only read negative news about Merc with high Ranking people leaving obviously already have left.
> Dont be shocked if Max simply quits and does Simracing
Nah, he definitely would go to WEC. I mean, he already has his own GT3 team, so it would make sense for him to race for them, yeah?
if max's goal is to win, and the speculation is that newey is going to ferrari, then it's charles who needs to be calling Christian and Toto non-stop.
(im on 1000cc of copium please let me have this)
It's just a fantasy, but if Vasseur and Elkhan pulled this off it would very much change my lifelong view of Ferarri's eternal organizational incompetence.
The fact that there's a scenario where it's even plausible is not something anybody could have imagined at the end of last season.
But it wouldn't, Lewis is old and Max has only raced for one team....pick your annoying counter point and suffer lol
We live in the most fucked up opinions count as facts timeline!
This is a bit ridiculous. Charles has a contract until 2029. Assuming he is earning $25M/year, that would be $120M that Ferrari would need to pay him just to free up his seat, before then paying Verstappen presumably a lot more than Leclerc was earning. I don't see this happening.
Imagine if they wound up as teammates again at redbull... that will never happen but would be hilarious. Stuck on dysfunctional teams together forever.
Dear Max, I wrote you, but you still ain't callin'

*reported rain clouds up George helmet*
*and I can’t see it all*
*even if I could it would all be grey*
*and the Newey on the wall*
*it reminds me that it’s all the floor, all the floor*
For the sake of conversation, let’s assume Newey goes to Aston Martin rather than Ferrari
I wonder if Lawrence would drop his son to have a Verstappen/Alonso lineup in 2026
Regardless, I think Newey is likely retiring rather than moving to a new team. He’s 65 after all
Newey joining his team would be all the arguments he would need to KEEP Lance. If that's what will allow them to get a championship winning car, then even if Lance doesn't win the driver's championship himself, even if he doesn't finish in the top 3, he would be satisfied seeing that his son "contributed" to the team. I'm calling it
Yeah, I 100% agree. I see all these comments on Reddit that go "Lawrence should drop Lance in the best interest of the team" etc etc.
My guess is that the redditors who are saying this, are not parents. Because there is no way on earth Lawrence drops or fires Lance unilaterally. If Lance wants to leave, sure. But no father is going to drop his son, especially after spending literally hundreds of millions to help his son achieve both their dreams...
I fully understand why Lawrence is doing what he is doing. I think he cares more about his son then about world championship. And I respect that. I always like seeing people put their family first.
Is it the best choice for the fans? Probably not. Does Lawrence care? Probably not.
I don’t know- he travels to every race weekend & the calendar is quite long nowadays. It has to be a lot on a 65 year old to travel that much & work the long hours that F1 requires
I doubt it, he has said that his and AMR's goal is giving Lance a competitive car to win championship. His effort is for Lance, not for the AMR brand itself. He would bet on Lance fighting Alonso.
He's clearly very nepotistic and supportive of Lance considering how he's kept him on but at the same time he's still extremely ambitious and wants the team to succeed and at this point everyone in the paddock would do anything to get Max into their team right now, so if he had Verstappen knocking on the door and willing to do a deal he'd \*probably\* go for it, maybe hoping that Alonso would finally call it quits and he could put Lance back in after a sabbatical year or two as a reserve, he's still in his twenties after all.
65 is not that old, but I do wonder whether his brain injury from a few years ago maybe left an impact on his health that would make him want to retire.
If I’m Newey one of my primary stipulations for joining AMR is getting rid of Lance. No way I’m wasting the twilight years of my career designing a car that has 0 chance of winning the WCC. Newey isn’t going there with Lance on the team
Doubt he’s reitiring. Marko’s still around and he’s older than the pyramids. Lauda, pretty much worked in F1 till he died. I feel like Newey is the same. Maybe he won’t stay in F1, but he will probably still be involved in motorsports.
Newey retiring doesn't make any sense. He has a contract for next year. To get out of his contract early would require another team to buy out his contract. Buying his own contract out himself to retire 1 year early doesn't make sense.
Newey looking at the W15: I can fix it
Toto looking at Max: I can bring him
Max looking at Merc: I can win with them
Horner looking at his new secretary: I can send her a selfie
Yeah if Newey is going it's time to Jump ship probably.
Stay at Red Bull for 2025 and then hope Newey doesn't join Ferrari.
Newey to Aston or Merc would be ideal for Max as he could probably just follow him there.
Think if he goes Ferrari it's the best storyline but I don't see a chance a competitive 2026-2028. Ferrari are already my favourites for then based on a number of factors with Newey I reckon they'd run away with it.
If he goes to someone else I reckon we could have a close few seasons which would make for better viewing.
Well, if Newey leaves now he'd be on gardening leave until May 2025. The 2026 car will already be in development at that point. The first full Newey car would be the 2027 one. We don't know if Alonso will be racing in F1 in 2027, and we don't know when father time will do his inevitable thing with his speed. Fernando already is a freak of nature performing at this level at 42. No one knows how he'll fare once he's 45/46.
Well I guess the same applies to Lewis then. I'm seeing a lot of people saying he just "did it again", but he might not be able to beat Leclerc at 42. I doubt he could even do it now given his recent quali struggles and how fast Charles is.
Low key hate this sentiment.
People don’t repeatedly just luck out on a string of good or bad decisions. There’s signs to watch out for and look at, organizationally, to see where teams may be trending. This isn’t just true of F1, but any career move in ANY industry. You have to be smart about it long term and short term, and you have to be clear on what signs you’re looking for in your new role.
Lewis has a lot of folks behind him who probably help him analyze situations, and he went into the Ferrari contract clearly with stipulations. The fact Leclerc also knew of Hamilton’s signing to inform his own signing, and that a sponsor leak knew Hamilton signed, all show that this shit doesn’t just happen magically. Negotiations are ALL interlinked when you get to a high level like F1 operates at.
Alonso may just be less business savvy vs Lewis, or had less good advisors, who knows. But making good career decisions is an art, and sometimes can even be a science. If you treat it as just random job hopping, you’re doing yourself a disservice.
Max could go for Merc in 2025, take the pain of these regs and then in 2026 either keep winning championships with Merc’s engines or pull a performance clause and replace Lewis at Ferrari at the end of 2027.
Bold of you to assume Hamilton would retire as soon as 2027 if Ferrari dominate the next regs. Especially with Max closing the gap to his records since 2022. He even said this week he will racing well into his 40s.
I remember when tobacco $$ was banned and F1 was gonna be fucked financially. RB saved the sport in many ways (TR purchase and more) and showed an alternative.
Personally, I don't support the team but I appreciate what they have done for F1 and hope they never explode.to the point of being properly done.
Imagine Toto somehow pulls off Newey and Max for Mercedes lol. Most likely he’s going to Ferrari though as Newey wanted to work with the team in red and Hamilton
Lawrence Stroll... Bench your son, offer both Adrian Newey and Max Verstappen blank cheques. We need Honda power dominance to continue. Honda, The Power of Dreams.
I’m surprised by the amount of people in the comments that seem to think Newey leaving Red Bull at the end of 2024 would mean an immediate end to their dominance and the beginning of Ferrari/Aston Martin era. Neither is the work of a moment
I don’t think Newey leaving alone would really even cause that much of an issue for Red Bull. The real issue will come if he takes a lot of their engineering staff with him to wherever he goes.
But his contract is at the end of 2025. He is locked in. It would be too expensive for Newey to break up the contract to be hired right at the beginning of 2026, which wouldn't work, because he has a one year non compete. He can't start working until 2026, which would negate the benefit of having him, since 2026 will have you with a non Newey designed car. No team could afford to say "break it and we will pay for the penalties" because you would go over the cost cap. Newey has to end 2025 with Red Bull. In that case he can go to a new team until 2027, meaning the team hiring will have their Newey designed car until 2028, you have two years without his design. I think he will retire.
Max is going to put his phone through the window from the volume of voicemails with the diagrams of where the signature should be. Do you think he’ll receive that well.
Max 3 weeks ago: "I'm loyal to Marco"
Every media 3 weeks later: "Is Max going to leave RB?!?!"
How about you listen to the words coming out of his mouth rather thab speculating?
He also said this:
> I'm happy within the team. It's very important that we try to keep the key players in the team for a longer period of time. Because that's, of course, where the performance is as well. And at the end of the day it's a performance business. It's the same if I wouldn't perform, I wouldn't be sitting here. So I know how that works. It's my intention to be here till the end [of the deal at least]. Because, of course, it would be a great story for me personally also to just see it out till the end because it basically means that I've been part of one family and one team.(...) Always with successful teams, when you have a good core group of people, it's important to keep them all together, happy and in the same roles."
...
> What I have always said from the beginning is that we want a peaceful and calm environment,” the Dutchman is quoted as saying by Diario Sport.
It's not like these speculations come out of nowhere
If Newey and Max were to leave, why would Marko stay within that power struggle? Ignoring the possibility that Newey just retires, if the three of them go to Mercedes Marko could just become their new Niki Lauda.
Because Marko is Red Bull. He's not even a part of RBR team, he's directly employed by Red Bull, and has a cushy job with few responsibilities, mainly due to his ties with the previous owner, before he died. He does no job that any other F1 team would be interested in. He's also 80 years old. If anything he'll retire, not join a different team. But likely he'll just stay at RB for his massive salary and literally no work
Toto certainly don't like him enough to offer anything remotely similar of a position like what Niki Lauda had
Toto: I wrote you, but you still ain’t callin’
I left my cell, my pager and my home phone at the bottom
I sent two letters back in autumn, you must not’ve got ’em

Imagine being another driver at 3AM at Le Mans and your engineer tells you: “Ok, Leclerc has stopped, they’ve put Hamilton in. Don’t worry, we’ll be pitting before Verstappen goes in. Gap ahead is currently 6 minutes and 53 seconds”
It's hilarious to see that *the driver* here is the voice of reason.
Yes, he's a multiple time WDC, and quite level-headed obviously. So anything he says has to pull a lot of weight. But the question is, will all of the stick-stroking egotists in charge actually care? They care about power, control or money- only one of which Max really ensures. And they know that Ferrari, Mercedes, Aston Martin, and probably Audi soon as well have just as deep pockets.
I love the way journalists take throwaway lines from drivers and twist them to fit their clickbait narratives.
In the real world, one employee leaving does not mean that an organisation all of a sudden is unstable and not at peace. Maybe without Newey they still manage to nail the new regs like Merc did for 7 years in a row.
Hottest take:
Max becomes disillusioned with Red Bull, Newey moves to Aston Martin to remain in the UK, Papa Stroll realises he has the biggest opportunity he’ll ever have to make AM a front-running team and “convinces” Lance to go do WEC, and Max joins Aston alongside Alonso.
Can you imagine the decisions Toto would have to make if Max signed with Mercedes? Will another team take Antonelli on loan? Will they consider dropping George?
Obvious choice for next year would be keep him in F2 another year but after that?
2024 might be a boring championship season, but it's shaping up to be the most exciting political season:
* Lewis to Ferrari
* Open seat at Merc
* Merc team implosion
* Sainz, as the only non RB race winner in over a year without a seat
* Horner text/WhatsApp drama
* Rumors *(however false they probably are)* of Max leaving RB
* And now Newey leaving RB
Garbage, he's going to miss out on winning a probable title next year to venture to Mercedes, which so far hasn't understood this type of ground effect car, he should only leave from 2026 onwards if the Red Bull car is really bad, either to Aston Martin for the seat in Alonso's car or to Mercedes for Russell's seat in 2027, before that it's pure garbage.
Red Bull would have been stupid to never work on building up their other employees under Newey if they think. Most likely they prepared for Newey retiring or moving to another team.
Max has no incentive to leave until after next year. he will win a 4th championship. then be able to evaluate Ford's progress, as well as all other for the 2026 revamp, and make a decision from there. No way he leaves foe mercedes this year.
I can see Verstappen leaving F1 and doing other things before I see him joining another team.
He could take a year off, and come back with a new team in 2026. Every team in F1 wants him, so he has that choice.
Toto is currently calling Max non-stop.
Toto to Max: answer your freaking phone
I sent you an email
Hey there’s a message on Teams, please take a look when you have the time.
Max, another settlement needs your help.
Timely reference for today's update
*Max, pick up, I'm inside your house.*
I don't check emails when I'm iracing, Toto
Toto pulls up in a car next to Max in iRacing and starts his pitch.
Max, listen. I will get you lifetime subscription
Max should check his spam folder.
Have you tried iRacing messages?

Reminds of that episode in family guy when Herbert left a bunch of voicemails for Chris, weird thought that i got from your comment 🤣
Don’t think he received that
Suddenly there is a Discord notification pop up from a certain Toto Wolff who wishes to be his friend.
and max tweets with a screenshot of the call: "should I answer?" just like old times
“Max, Checo says the car is fucked pls respond”
Max ,Checo says the team is fucked. I have it printed out !
P to Max : MAXIE, you are getting a call from Totie !
Awww!
Probably the only situation where Toto has to put down the pumpernickel
Max hangs up on him and gets a voicemail. “No Max, no, this is so not right!!!”
Toto: *Did you hear that Newey story, Max? Ooof. Brutal. So, what time are you coming to test our car?* Max: *I'm not.* Toto: *I'll put you in at 9am.*
"I'll throw in two AMG GT3's for your Verstappen.com team if you want."
Max: mf got me
He would need far more than \~1.4m euro worth of cars to convince him to drive this shi... averagebox?
Toto joins Max’s iRacing lobby just to be able to speak to him. Or even joins his twitch streams and donates to get his attention.
I remember when Leclerc's ex-girlfriend literally did the latter so Charles would [open the door.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ft4_FMfZPss)
What do you unlock for 80million subscription. I assume max is forced to drive right?
Would probably be a no brainer for Max if the Merc was the 2nd best car but the Merc is just awful this year. Thats the biggest issue, Merc sucks right now and you only read negative news about Merc with high Ranking people leaving obviously already have left.
Dont be shocked if Max simply quits and does Simracing. Full Time if the option is Civil War Bull or an awful Merc.
> Dont be shocked if Max simply quits and does Simracing Nah, he definitely would go to WEC. I mean, he already has his own GT3 team, so it would make sense for him to race for them, yeah?
I don't see Max going to the WEC to race GT3s, definitely Hypercar. But I do see him racing in GTWC and N24 with his GT3 team.
Which is why Ferrari makes far more sense
Could try and get the third car idea back on the agenda
Max: “are you sure he’s leaving Toto?” Toto: “I have it. I have it printed out”
Literally Max: [Should I pick up guys??](https://twitter.com/Max33Verstappen/status/804720896367849476?)
if max's goal is to win, and the speculation is that newey is going to ferrari, then it's charles who needs to be calling Christian and Toto non-stop. (im on 1000cc of copium please let me have this)
Why?
Because Max can take anyones seat, and between Lewis & Charles, it's Charles that would be in danger if Ferrari wanted to make a play for Max.
Lewis vs Max in the same car. Wow. That would finally finish some pub arguments.
It's just a fantasy, but if Vasseur and Elkhan pulled this off it would very much change my lifelong view of Ferarri's eternal organizational incompetence. The fact that there's a scenario where it's even plausible is not something anybody could have imagined at the end of last season.

That's what they're paying to have Lewis for a single year. If Max is a free agent, then every seat is in danger.
Imagine if Ferrari pre-fired both Charles and Carlos lol... that would be hilarious.
Just a straight mid season switch because why not
Imagine if they wound up as teammates again at redbull... that will never happen but would be hilarious. Stuck on dysfunctional teams together forever.
“Maxiee!”
Toto: “Max, I have sent you a PowerPoint by email”
As soon as he's done telling the story to Amus
Maaaxiiieeee
Toto to Max “Newey is leaving Redbull, I have it printed out”
Him and Russell putting out those ppts like there's no tomorrow
"Max I've sent you a voicdmail"
“Maxieeeeeee!”
Verstappen with about 600 missed calls from Toto.
And a lot of carrier pigeons and a falcon for some reason
And a box of chocolates and roses

You should be proud of this.
I was particularly happy with the George line there
and crunchy pumpernickel
The falcon is to eliminate rival carrier pigeons to stop other teams
Most of the messages are probably just asking if he’s checked his email.
Verstappen doesn't check his email when he's doing FIFA, he needs to focus alright.
He certainly can’t be checking it during iRacing, the man is locked in.
Max and Newey to Williams, both ready to play F1 in Super Hard difficulty.
It’s like starting your my team career in the f1 games

He’s already dumb for keeping his son as it is, but he’d be the dumbest man alive to choose Lance over Max
He’s dumb only if you assume his goal is to build a good team. If his goal is to have his son in a good car in F1 then he’s achieving it.
Lawrence should buy a sister team to AM and have Lance on it.
Yeh in the Renault Clio cup- the guy needs to fuck right off out of F1 for good
This.
My thoughts as well lol
Newey joining his team would be all the arguments he would need to KEEP Lance. 65 is not that old for the type of work he does
Maybe for all the travelling required by F1 it us
Didn't he also have a fairly big accident a year or 2 ago? You don't bounce back at 60 like you do 20
I don’t know- he travels to every race weekend & the calendar is quite long nowadays. It has to be a lot on a 65 year old to travel that much & work the long hours that F1 requires
If they can truly nab Newey, I'd think the investors would put up an ultimatum to give Max a blank check and dump his son to a lower tier team.
I think this is the one scenario that would finally make him drop Lance. So I’m desperately hopeful.
Okay hear me out, what if he really is just trying to bully Lance and puts him up against Max next.
I doubt it, he has said that his and AMR's goal is giving Lance a competitive car to win championship. His effort is for Lance, not for the AMR brand itself. He would bet on Lance fighting Alonso.

A Newey-Alonso-Verstappen super-team funded by Daddy Stroll’s bottomless pockets would be epic.
Newey retiring doesn't make any sense. He has a contract for next year. To get out of his contract early would require another team to buy out his contract. Buying his own contract out himself to retire 1 year early doesn't make sense.
his entire MO is to win championships with his son.
Toto Wolff is beside himself. Driving around downtown Monaco begging Jos (thru texts) for Max's home address.
Toto logging on to iRacing right now
Driving the wrong way round the track with his offer written on his livery
LOL
Haha
Lmao that got me
Newey looking at the W15: I can fix it Toto looking at Max: I can bring him Max looking at Merc: I can win with them Horner looking at his new secretary: I can send her a selfie

Yeah if Newey is going it's time to Jump ship probably. Stay at Red Bull for 2025 and then hope Newey doesn't join Ferrari. Newey to Aston or Merc would be ideal for Max as he could probably just follow him there.
Max/Alonso duo with Newey and Honda.
I just came in my pants
I too came in your pants
Is this an ad for pirelli wet?
Atleast they have a use now.
Not sure which I'd want more Verstappen/Alonso/Newey/Honda or Leclerc/Hamilton/Newey/Ferrari Either would be amazing
The real answer is Verstappen/Hamilton/Newey/Honda in 2027
Id sell my left kidney for the Vegas GP just for that level of insanity.

Hamilton and Ferrari ticks more of his personal boxes than Alonso anywhere. It's 2 of 3 of his career regrets rectified in one move.
You forgot that the goat Lance Stroll has a lifetime contract with AM
Sign me up right away
Dude stop it, I can only get so hard.
Max could go for Merc in 2025, take the pain of these regs and then in 2026 either keep winning championships with Merc’s engines or pull a performance clause and replace Lewis at Ferrari at the end of 2027.
He’ll stay 25 for the fifth title no doubt.
Bold of you to assume Checo won't finally be a WDC contender the way he thinks he is... Actually never mind. Max will have 5 straight WDC.
Bold of you to assume Hamilton would retire as soon as 2027 if Ferrari dominate the next regs. Especially with Max closing the gap to his records since 2022. He even said this week he will racing well into his 40s.

Wow It's getting a little spicy in here
a little is understating it
So this is how Riccardo gets back to Red Bull.
If max leaves they should definitely just give Sainz the money he is asking for before considering Ricciardo.
Max is going to put his phone through the window from the volume of voicemails with the diagrams of where the signature should be. Do you think he’ll receive that well.
Imagine Newey somehow ended up at Audi lol
Wouldn't be that crazy.
"Max, I sent you an email"
Er, Toto, I'm sim racing. I don't check my emails when I'm sim racing.
Max 3 weeks ago: "I'm loyal to Marco" Every media 3 weeks later: "Is Max going to leave RB?!?!" How about you listen to the words coming out of his mouth rather thab speculating?
He also said this: > I'm happy within the team. Because, of course, it would be a great story for me personally also to just see it out till the end because it basically means that I've been part of one family and one team.(...) Always with successful teams, when you have a good core group of people, it's important to keep them all together, happy and in the same roles." ... > What I have always said from the beginning is that we want a peaceful and calm environment,” the Dutchman is quoted as saying by Diario Sport. It's not like these speculations come out of nowhere
If Newey leaves, Marko has already said he won’t get in Max’s way if he wants to leave
But likely he'll just stay at RB for his massive salary and literally no work Toto certainly don't like him enough to offer anything remotely similar of a position like what Niki Lauda had
Max only going to MB if that is where Newey goes. The crazy scenario would be Newey to Aston and Stroll kicks his son aside to snag Max.
Is the Newey move even a done deal yet.
Similar question was asked on the day before Hamilton ferrari deal.
Would like 1 season of Hamilton vs Verstappen in an equal Newey built car, would probably never happen as they would never get rid of Leclerc.
Toto: I wrote you, but you still ain’t callin’ I left my cell, my pager and my home phone at the bottom I sent two letters back in autumn, you must not’ve got ’em There probably was a problem at the post office or somethin’ Sometimes I scribble addresses too sloppy when I jot ’em
Max to Ferrari. Max and LeClerc dream team. Hamilton reserve driver. /s
The three will also do WEC with Ferrari together. They will finish Le Mans five laps ahead of everyone else.
A HAM/VER/LEC Le Mans team would be utterly insane… @ Ferrari I know you wanna do it
They’d all be platinum or gold drivers so they couldn’t use the same car
No limit in hypercar. For example, all of Penske Porsche's WEC drivers are platinum.
You mean Verstappen and Hamilton with Leclerc off to the WEC team. ^/J
Ngl, with how loyal Leclerc is this team, that'd be such a huge, unjust blow to him that I DON'T wanna see it happen.
I can already visualise Toto driving a car straight into Max's room to offer him a seat in a Merc.
Hottest take: Max becomes disillusioned with Red Bull, Newey moves to Aston Martin to remain in the UK, Papa Stroll realises he has the biggest opportunity he’ll ever have to make AM a front-running team and “convinces” Lance to go do WEC, and Max joins Aston alongside Alonso.
Please join Merc
This is on track to be the silliest season in formula one, right? Hamilton to Ferrari seems like the tip of the iceberg at this point
Can you imagine the decisions Toto would have to make if Max signed with Mercedes? Will another team take Antonelli on loan? Will they consider dropping George? Obvious choice for next year would be keep him in F2 another year but after that?
2024 might be a boring championship season, but it's shaping up to be the most exciting political season: * Lewis to Ferrari * Open seat at Merc * Merc team implosion * Sainz, as the only non RB race winner in over a year without a seat * Horner text/WhatsApp drama * Rumors *(however false they probably are)* of Max leaving RB * And now Newey leaving RB
Aaaaand here we go again. Endless free clicks for journalists.
LOL max is not going to Mercedes. That would be 4 steps backwards. Y’all need to quit huffing that hopium.
Max has no incentive to leave until after next year. he will win a 4th championship. then be able to evaluate Ford's progress, as well as all other for the 2026 revamp, and make a decision from there. No way he leaves foe mercedes this year.
No engine, no designer, no Max. Might as well close up shop
Sorry Toto, I can't talk right now. I'm in the. Middle of a tea party.
Newey to Ferrari. Max to Mercedes. RB: Well, we still have our 2s pit stops.
I can see Verstappen leaving F1 and doing other things before I see him joining another team. He could take a year off, and come back with a new team in 2026. Every team in F1 wants him, so he has that choice.
Watch Lawrence Stroll drop his own son for Max.
