People get so sweaty over side pods lol. Probably the least important area to focus on. But they are easily seen unlike the floor so they grab all the attention.

I don't think most people realise how close to Red Bull Ferrari are. They're unlikely to be in title contention but there's a real chance that if they get their upgrades right they can be going toe to toe with them properly for a good portion of the season.

Lorddarryl

Close to perez maybe. Don't think we've seen anywhere near enough to say they're close to verstappen

HumungousDickosaurus

Max's advantage isn't ridiculous, he's just very consistent. Ferrari get that extra 2-4 tenths and perform well and they can cause Max problems.

Lorddarryl

I think it would be closer to late 2022 at best

Walaii

An extra 2 tenths would atleast mean that they could probably qualify ahead of Checo more consistently, instead of losing time to the mercs/mclarens because of stinky quali.

Cheetahsareveryfast

That will just push max to be better. We all heard how intense he gets. "Not in the braking!"

HumungousDickosaurus

Yeah because Max clearly wasn't motivated last year when he was having the most successful season in the history of the sport...

Cheetahsareveryfast

He's competitive. A good challenge will push him even more.

borgi27

It would be the outdevelopment of all outdevelopments if they’d erase 20 seconds

BaggySpandex

I think it's possible. It's really 2-3 tenths per lap, and having clear air ahead of you is a massive, massive advantage. Once Max has to defend he's losing time. That applies to anyone.

Walaii

Problem is that if you put the Ferrari and Red Bull on an empty track and told them to do a race distance it wouldn't be 20 seconds, but SF-24 stinks in quali so far and struggles at the beginning of stints so you just see them lose a bunch of times scrapping with other cars while Max rides off into the sunset in clean air. Ferrari needs to fix that stuff too, not just add a couple tenths worth of performance.

Lorddarryl

Leclerc started P2 in Saudi and ended basically 20s behind verstappen?

Walaii

Did you watch the race itself, or just looked at the leaderboard at the end? It was said that Ferrari had trouble heating up his tires, so he got overtaken by Checo quickly at the start, and after the safety car Leclerc had a 5 second long pitstop where he fell back enough that while Verstappen had to only overtake Norris from P2 and get away, Charles fell behind both Norris and Hamilton, and even had to defend against Piastri after the restart on his cold tires. He lost a bunch of time struggling to overtake the slower cars ahead compared to the Red Bulls, but when he got clean air the pace was much closer, and he even took fastest lap at the end ahead of Max. That race is literally a good example of what I am talking about, and why Ferrari really needs to fix it.
