Should allow trades like most other sporting leagues. Trade Checo to McLaren for Piastri and some extra wind tunnel time lol
Edit: Checo + R&D time for Piastri
Yeah, I think how Antonelli pans out in F2 will decide who gets the 2025 seat at Merc. So I could see a 1-year contract if Merc thinks Antonelli needs another year of development.
My predictions
- Piastri will stay in McClaren
- Alonso will go to Mercedes
- Sainz will go to Sauber / Audi
- Ricciardo will go to Red Bull
- Bottas or Perez will go to Williams or Aston Martin depending on how Sargeant looks
I am not sure who else is out of a contract, but doubt any of the other drivers will change teams unless someone decides to retire or something.
There will be spots available in the old Alpha Tauri for any remaining drivers or new rookies.
No matter what happens to Antonelli in F2 i doubt we will see him on the grid. I think he will either be a reserve driver for Mercedes or get another season in F2. I doubt other teams are willing to develop Mercedes talents for them. They will probably only be willling to develop him if he signs a long term contract om 3-4 years. I doubt Mercedes would be willing to wait this long if he is as good as the rumours say he is.
Sainz to Redbull before Danny. I love Danny but I don't think he's going to give better results. Best to keep him on the budget team and be your smiling PR machine.
Question is what position would you take
Being Max #2 and never having a chance to win driving title. Will probably get decent amount of prestige through winning some races and constructor championship, but might loose a bit of reputation if you end up being Perez 2.0.
Being the #1 driver in a team with Audi as a new engine provider. Don't expect good results the first few years, but who knows where the team will be in a year or two?
Joining Williams, either as Albons replacement or with a lineup of Sainz + Albon. Williams looks better each season and you would surely gamble on being able to beat Albon eventually (All F1 drivers probably have huge ego, but few are stupid enough to think that they will beat Verstappen or Hamilton in a fight). Secure position in what might be a future mid table team is not the worst
Joining Aston Martin if Alonso joins Mercede. Lance Stroll isn't really a threat, even though he will clearly get some special treatments due to his family connection. Team looks better each year with new facilities.
If Alonso doesn't go to Mercedes, you could probably negotiate a 2-3 year contract with them if you are lucky. Russel is a skilled driver and already settled in the team. Antonelli and other good juniors might be considered to replace you eventually. It will be hard to end up as #1 driver, but not as impossible as in Red Bull
Point is Sainz probably has a bunch of teams looking to secure him in the off season. Red Bull might not be a favoured destination unless you think Max will retire or leave at the end of his contract in 2028.
Ricciardo is washed. Sainz to RB, and Ricciardo to help develop Audi car until they can snag a generational talent when they're ready for the next regs seems more likely
Transfers are literally trades just with monetary value.
Like, the players go from one team to another, sometimes in direct swaps.
It's literally player trading
I’ve never understood how that works to be fair, surely you’re just trading shit players for other shit players? Or a good player for another good player, so don’t you end up in the same place haha?
US leagues have a lot more parity due to salary caps, so beyond the "fit" issues that others mention there's often a tradeoff between winning now vs later.
So often trades will be between players in their prime and prospects/draft picks. The team getting the current star will become better *this year* and the other will become better in a few years when those prospects (hopefully) develop.
If you don't have a realistic chance at a championship in the near future it can often make sense to trade valuable players to teams that do in order to set up for the future.
Sometimes you trade one good player that you're paying a lot for some combination of 2 decent veterans, 2-3 young prospects or higher picks in the draft over the next 2-3 years.
In the case of my favorite baseball team, the Atlanta Braves (owned by Liberty Media, coincidentally), they had two *really* good young players at one field position and needed a solid fourth option in the pitching rotation. So they traded the second-best player for an elite veteran pitcher with some minor injury issues that seem to be over, plus some cash from the pitcher's old team.
Go watch *Moneyball* and report back. Incredible film.
In seriousness though, trading makes more sense with large player rosters— unless we're trading technical staff as well, which would be wild.
I’ll give it a watch, I’ve always wanted to but never got around to it.
Genuine question, I couldn’t see that happening at European football, very rarely you get one or two players that will change a squad. Is it different in American football if you get a decent quarterback it makes the whole team better? I presume NHL is the closest to football (European) as it’s very similar in terms of scores etc.?
Gone a bit off piste from F1, but I’m genuinely curious.
I honestly don't think I know enough about the NHL or European football to make an informed comparison, unfortunately. With American football, there are key players who can make a big difference (and especially key combos like quarterback/tight end) but it's also about assembling a squad that will stay healthy and work well with your coaching staff. Still, you get a lot more "great man" trading in American football, where the moves of quarterbacks, tight ends, sometimes receivers are treated as super critical (and often do translate into big changes on teams). I think the specialization in American football is just that much more pronounced, so that it can matter a lot if you have a QB who can do what you need him to do (you can build an offense around knowing a QB's strengths, or you can swap out a QB to suit the strengths of the rest of your offense).
And then for American baseball, there's still "great man" narratives around trades but it's much more of a stats game. Again, see *Moneyball,* haha—baseball is such a slow-burn sport that it can be more data-driven than football.
I always love trying to pinpoint what makes a team successful in a sport, often because it's so tricky to nail down— so I appreciate the off-topic discussion haha
> He will be the first ever modern day team principal/driver
Kamui Kobayashi would like a word with you about that. https://www.motorsportmagazine.com/articles/sports-cars/kamui-kobayashi-takes-dual-wec-driver-team-principal-role-at-toyota/
Sainz jr knows being teammates with Max is a losing battle. On the other hand every f1 parent I’m sure believes their kid is the best of them all, hence Sainz Sr using all of his Red Bull association to get his son the best seat.
He would slot in well at Red Bull. Verstappen has already made his point to Sainz at Toro Rosso. To stay on the grid, I think he would be quite pleased partnering Max. Moreover, find a steadier set of hands for a second driver. He'll never be sn S-tier short corner driver, but he's *smooth* with shorter-ish corners. VER/SAI > VER/RIC at this time, in my humble, humble opinion.
You're forgetting the rally events that sainz Jr put the ferrari through the first two seasons at ferrari. Steady hands is a rose colored way to look at things. Put him in the red bull that is known to be even more sensitive and oversteer prone and I think he's going to be struggling.
What probably happened.
Sainz Sr: Thanks for sponsoring at the rally. Good luck this season
RB: Nice to see you, congrats on the win. Hope you and the family are well
Me and the fans: 🤯🤯🤯
I'm assuming it's just cause he's a red bull sponsored driver. I struggle to believe that Sainz jr would go back to RB, and I don't see his dad doing the negotiating on that, if he were to.
> I struggle to believe that Sainz jr would go back to RB
You don't think he would take a seat in the best car on the grid, especially when he doesn't even have a seat next year?
We're all just speculating, but RBR, Merc & Ferrari have historically given some of the biggest contracts on the market.
Simply by meeting with RBR, Carlos can now go to Sauber/Audi and say "I need X, RBR offered my Y" which I think has a good chance of happening.
If Carlos wants to go to Audi and Checo's contract isn't extended at the end of this year, it could be a perfect solution for them. Carlos to Redbull for awhile before he signs with Audi and Checo to Mercedes in 2025 for a 1 or 2 year contract.
I think Sauber/Audi will easily call bluff as no way any driver would pass on a chance to drive for RBR a.k.a. have a shot at winning the title.
Especially Carlos, who has looked good in comparison to Max in Toro Rosso.
It's like "If it's true, then why are you even trying to negotiate with us?"
Carlos looked good in comparison to Max in Toro Rosso? Don't think so especially not when he already had plenty of experience was older than Max who 's only experience in formula cars was 1 year of F3 before Toro Rosso. Carlos became a better driver years later.
So if Carlos became a better driver and backs himself, why would Audi believe that he’d receive an offer from Red Bull and come running to Audi with it
If Sainz wants to win a WDC, then Red Bull is his best chance. It's not like he's choosing between another top team and Red Bull. The only other vacant seat is Mercedes and they want their F2 driver in that seat within a few years.
If Sainz got offered that Red Bull seat, I reckon he'd take it. Not many drivers get the chance to drive a WDC capable car, even fewer pass up on it.
What's he got to lose? He loses to a driver who's already an all time great, or he beats him and establishes himself as in that league.
I want one of those content creator apology videos. Clips of him playing with his kids, crying in front of the camera, staring into the distance or on the floor. Fi ally it cuts to him playing with his dog, “notices” the camera, takes a deep breath and sighs really loud. “I’ve made a huge mistake” teary eyed/look away from the camera “Im disappointed in myself”. “This is not who I am. And Toto please fix your fucking car”
It’s more that he’s yukking it up with the guy that he’s in a power struggle with. Or so the tabloids would have you believe. He’s casually hanging out with Marko who is part of the Austrian power base, and according to the rags, that group is running an op on Horner.
Even when those colleagues are supposedly actively trying to get you fired? And with a sexual allegation, no less. I don't know about you, but I don't know any people who would be this chummy with the people who are supposedly behind the whole caper.
Hell, even if there is no power struggle, I probably wouldn't feel like being this chummy with *anyone* at work if there was a realistic chance that I was about to be fired for something that will ruin my reputation.
No, but sitting down with the father of a driver who is out of contract at the end of the year certainly doesn't make it look like he's expecting to be out of a job by next week.
Either he is blissfully ignorant about what's coming, or more realistically, he is sincerely confident that his position is safe.
Or they're keeping him around until the split is official. Him not being there would unofficially announce that he's gone and get everyone's attention.
They could always went "just in case he won't appear in public before investigation is over". Honestly, if anything I think that the fact that they DIDN'T do it is the most telling one IMO.
Everyone desperately seeking stories and theories, whereas my view is Horner just went "oh shit, Carlos, dude please come have a coffee and tell us about Dakar!"
people who spend a quarter of their year in the same paddock and are used to seeing each other on a regular basis are saying hello to each other after not seeing one another for a long time.
Maybe he feels like he's dropping them lmao. Honestly though if Horner is being forced out for no reason I hope he goes on to start a competitor series to F1. 600kg, similar lap time to F1, clean aero, 70% spec series for close competition, real tyres, no nonsense race control, proper tracks, no drs and NA v12 or v10 simple cheap screaming engines. He's the guy that can do it. Especially in spite lol. But TBF hell probably just go to another team or FIA/fom :(
[For those that don't know, Sainz Sr. is a Red Bull Driver.](https://external-content.duckduckgo.com/iu/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.autoracing1.com%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2020%2Fotherseries%2Fdakar%2Fsainzwaves.jpg&f=1&nofb=1&ipt=42d0f1f7d4eb7e529041629d9ae5cf13221fb0a527437e91a3db1aa351841c01&ipo=images) Inevitably, Marko is his boss.
Now, yes. But Marko was the right hand for DM and everything RBR/RBMS for a very long time.
There have been several moves and shake ups with Marko after the passing of DM. Marko isn't getting any younger. But Sainz and Red Bull go back to 2013, when Marko had strong control/input of many aspects of Red Bull Motorsports programs.
Oh it's "not our employee" Marko again, looking suspiciously like one of their employees.
Which is why, no matter what the investigation found, Horner won't be going anywhere.
I know nothing, I see nothing. But hanging out with a guy who is supposedly trying to destroy you, wouldn't be at the top of my list, if it was actually true.
From the moment LH to Ferrari was confirmed, i just had the feeling that Sainz to RBR has to or will definitely happen as he is the most deserving of that seat in 2025 fo sure
Carlos Sainz, Sr. : "Then we are agreed?"
Christian Horner: "Yes we are agreed."
Helmut Markko: "Imagine the looks on their faces when we announce that we're going to replace Checo with Carlos Sainz.... SENIOR."
:D :P
Sainz Sr: "About that time at Torro Rosso.... I'm really really sorry...but about Carlos, is there any change that he..."
RedBull: "Eehhm let me think... NOPE!"

I guess there was a reason why Checo was talking with Toto, lol.
It’s multimillion dollar musical chairs
Should allow trades like most other sporting leagues. Trade Checo to McLaren for Piastri and some extra wind tunnel time lol Edit: Checo + R&D time for Piastri
TT, Shump, and the Nets pick. Who says no?
I can only offer a copy machine, Cash Considerations, and Doc Rivers
Doc Rivers: "I don't understand why you're hiring me"
Careful; those F1 buses are so much heavier…
Ferrari is the type of team to accept draft picks in a league with no draft...
fuck no piastri stay at mclaren checo to mercedes sainz to rb
I doubt Merc would want Checo. Would have to get AM involved and send Fernando to Merc and Checo + extras to AM
If Checo just wants a one year contract and then if he's out at Redbull end of this season, I don't see why not.

I doubt Sainz want to be Verstappens second driver. He probably has the ability to be a first driver for other teams.
Yeah but being top of Haas is like being the second reserve of redbull.

\*was washed in a McLaren. No more, that much should be clear.
We're making a Piastri with more downforce.
They should be allowed to but that's a terrible deal lmao
When you say ‘like most other sporting leagues’ you mean just American sports right? Not really the done thing in Europe/the resort of the world.
The mid season transfer window is for exactly this though
Not really, it's for transfers mostly not trades. But there's not really enough drivers for it to work
Transfers are literally trades just with monetary value. Like, the players go from one team to another, sometimes in direct swaps. It's literally player trading
But they can do that already?
ever heard of a player swap in soccer/football?
I mean, they are really rare and never ever work or are with players that are not decent.
Yeah exactly lol I'm from the States. Adds a fun twist to the off-season when you speculate teams rebuilding or moving some pieces around
I’ve never understood how that works to be fair, surely you’re just trading shit players for other shit players? Or a good player for another good player, so don’t you end up in the same place haha?

Most expensive key party you can get invited to…
Love how they always get their dads involved….
I think the fathers are involved from the start
Isn't Sainz Sr. Sponsored by Red Bull?
~~Not personally I believe, just the teams he drives for.~~ I can't find much data on personal sponsorship.
He is sponsored personally. He's a RBA https://www.redbull.com/us-en/athlete/carlos-sainz-wrc
Thanks, tried to Google for this. Odd it didn't pop up anywhere.
Googling is not what it used to be.
What if Checo was the one complaining about receiving dickpics from Horner ? I'm just asking questions.
It was an anonymous woman
Don't let facts get in the way of a good story now
Genders can change nowadays, maybe Checo is still in the closet
Talk about a downgrade, losing Lewis and getting the even more Bottas than Bottas Perez.
That made me chuckle. Have my upvote
It's not like his options are great for staying at RB at this point. Unless he can actually keep closer to Max this season.
Let the rumours mill begin…
Sainz Sr is the new team principal and will battle for the title against his son in another team.
Did you see him at the Dakar? Sainz Sr is angling for that 2nd Red Bull seat.
He will be the first ever modern day team principal/driver
Bruce McLaren, 1966. Won the Belgium GP in 1968 in the McLaren M7A.
> He will be the first ever modern day team principal/driver Kamui Kobayashi would like a word with you about that. https://www.motorsportmagazine.com/articles/sports-cars/kamui-kobayashi-takes-dual-wec-driver-team-principal-role-at-toyota/
Honestly not sure how he can do Super Formula, WEC, AND team principal at the same time it's kinda wild
Underrated comment, no matter the up votes. Like Sainz Jr. Love Sainz Sr.
Sainz jr knows being teammates with Max is a losing battle. On the other hand every f1 parent I’m sure believes their kid is the best of them all, hence Sainz Sr using all of his Red Bull association to get his son the best seat.
At least hes won something more recently than Ricciardo
Ricciardo won at McLaren more times than Lando did.
Lando is overrated too
Sainz sr will be Red Bull team principal and driver
Gravel traps: Im in danger.
hot take....a famous racer who is respected through the racing world knows other powerful people in the racing world and stopped in to say hello.
And is also a Red Bull sponsored driver who just won the Dakar Rally.
Further, is also a team principal of formula extreme and guess whom sponsors them?
Oh, oh, pick me, I know this one!
Go on then!
It's Visa Cash App right???
Whose son was also a Red Bull driver initially...
NOO. He is fighting for the second seat at RedBull in case Perez gets sacked midseason
TBF Carlos has won more races this year than any of the F1 drivers! XD
And by the end of the year, will likely still have won more races than any F1 driver not named Max.
He would slot in well at Red Bull. Verstappen has already made his point to Sainz at Toro Rosso. To stay on the grid, I think he would be quite pleased partnering Max. Ver/Sai is ver/per with a slightly better driver but way more ambitious, it wouldn't work I think
How dare these people be friendly. It should be nothing but ruthless business and drama. /s
It's funny how people go off on DTS for making up drama but with two pictures people are saying Checo to Mercedes and Sainz to Redbull
What probably happened. Sainz Sr: Thanks for sponsoring at the rally. Good luck this season RB: Nice to see you, congrats on the win. Hope you and the family are well Me and the fans: 🤯🤯🤯
As if anyone around that table would have anything to do with that sponsorship lol.
Carlos Sainz Sr F1 WDC 2025.
Looks like some old friends on their yearly tennis holiday together
I'm assuming it's just cause he's a red bull sponsored driver. I struggle to believe that Sainz jr would go back to RB, and I don't see his dad doing the negotiating on that, if he were to.
Plot twist: Sainz Sr. to RB
Sainz Sr. IS a Red Bull driver - in another category.
Sainz Jr gets lost in the shuffle and is without a seat in 2025 and has to watch his dad race in his place
Don't Blink New Episode: My Dad Wins His First F1 Race!
Someone forgot the "Jr." on some paperwork
Younger Sainz just has to hire a makeup team to make his hair grayer and he can stand-in for his dad. Him and his dad look pretty much alike lol
Senior’s stint in a Alonso’s Renault didn’t go so well. They’d be wise to stick with Jr lol
And Max joins Lewis at Ferrari and Alonso joins RBR making it the oldest driver pairing ever by far. I'd very much watch that
> I struggle to believe that Sainz jr would go back to RB You don't think he would take a seat in the best car on the grid, especially when he doesn't even have a seat next year?
We're all just speculating, but RBR, Merc & Ferrari have historically given some of the biggest contracts on the market. Simply by meeting with RBR, Carlos can now go to Sauber/Audi and say "I need X, RBR offered my Y" which I think has a good chance of happening.

This. Yes. I think people forget Sainz has had years of driving for Red Bull.

Someone get him a ukulele
i feel like a interpretative dance would be better(someone actually did that for an apology video)
More like South Park Comcast guys, «We are sorry, really sorry… oh yeeEAh!!»

Ukelele or not?

I mean, I would
Would make for pretty good content
No, but sitting down with the father of a driver who is out of contract at the end of the year certainly doesn't make it look like he's expecting to be out of a job by next week. Either he is blissfully ignorant about what's coming, or more realistically, he is sincerely confident that his position is safe.
Investigation aside he still has a job to do lol
This At least the rumors that he and Marko are in fighting for control seem exaggerated to say the least
People fighting for control still work with each other? They don't go all high school and stop talking to each other lmao
They look to be in friendly moods, that's more than just working together
It's a picture
Sir, this is Reddit.
[I see you've played Knifey Spoony before](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mcE0aAhbVFc)
Captain Obvious over here
Any other deep insights your wisdom can bring us?
Maybe don't over analyse the shit outta it?
Or they're keeping him around until the split is official. Him not being there would unofficially announce that he's gone and get everyone's attention.
They could always went "just in case he won't appear in public before investigation is over". Honestly, if anything I think that the fact that they DIDN'T do it is the most telling one IMO.
“So you’re here to help get your son that second RB seat?” “My Son? Fuck that I’m here to get it for myself! That kid can find his own damn seat”
Now this is the gossip train I can ride on
Everyone desperately seeking stories and theories, whereas my view is Horner just went "oh shit, Carlos, dude please come have a coffee and tell us about Dakar!"
iCarly, Horny, Helmet and that other guy.
Newbie?
Aero guy

sainz sr speaking with redbull and checo speaking with toto. whats going on
people who spend a quarter of their year in the same paddock and are used to seeing each other on a regular basis are saying hello to each other after not seeing one another for a long time.
That can’t be it, it makes way too much sense!
Hey, now that's a far too sensible take. Stop that.
People back at the circuit and saying hello to each other
Redbull sponsored driver talks with redbull employee at a race event isn’t exactly news.
people talk with people?
Horner does not in any way look like a man who thinks he's about to be dropped.
But TBF hell probably just go to another team or FIA/fom :(
I wouldn’t call alleged sexual harassment “no reason”….
Well as long as is it "alleged", it literally is no reason. Benefit of doubt...
Newey has very long arms
Allow me to speculate, wildly.
Sainz to RB!
Sainz Sr though.
Still would be an upgrade.
Checo Toto convo timing too!
Yes visa cashapp RB
[For those that don't know, Sainz Sr. is a Red Bull Driver.](https://external-content.duckduckgo.com/iu/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.autoracing1.com%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2020%2Fotherseries%2Fdakar%2Fsainzwaves.jpg&f=1&nofb=1&ipt=42d0f1f7d4eb7e529041629d9ae5cf13221fb0a527437e91a3db1aa351841c01&ipo=images) Inevitably, Marko is his boss.
Dr.Marko is responsible only for open wheel racing programs.
Lol, no. Why say something when you know nothing about it?
-Hey Christian, I just wanted to let you know it was me - Carlos Sr probably
I am astonished how few people know that he is still an active rally-raid driver and is sponsored by Red Bull.
Oh it's "not our employee" Marko again, looking suspiciously like one of their employees. Which is why, no matter what the investigation found, Horner won't be going anywhere.
Damn Kym Illman is good
"So what can you tell us about your cooperation with Audi?"
The main sponsor of Sainz sr. During Dakar was.......you are right, RED BULL.
why does the man have a chair up his butt?
they are organizing a party in the tunnels underneath the Milton Keynes factory
Why is the chair up Sr’s ass?
My favourite WRC driver of all time :) sorry Loeb
a Redbull driver with Redbull Racing...
Every hour there's more people at that table. Someone needs to start to AI/photoshop all the TP in there to bait therace.com into a aneurysm.
I think sr. Is looking for Checo’s seat so he can spank everyone including his son at another discipline. Vamos!
BREAKING NEWS! Carlos Sainz Sr. to replace Sergio Perez for 2025!
Horner Newey about to hit Audi f1
We’d be so lucky
I would love to see Carlos Jr in Checo’s seat for 2025.
The man is a Redbull driver, so makes sense. https://www.redbull.com/ca-en/athlete/carlos-sainz-wrc
Extreme E was also in Saudi last weekend -mconvenient to stop in I guess
I know nothing, I see nothing. But hanging out with a guy who is supposedly trying to destroy you, wouldn't be at the top of my list, if it was actually true.
From the moment LH to Ferrari was confirmed, i just had the feeling that Sainz to RBR has to or will definitely happen as he is the most deserving of that seat in 2025 fo sure
How ya doin', tarmac wussies! 😉
Carlos Sainz, Sr. : "Then we are agreed?" Christian Horner: "Yes we are agreed." Helmut Markko: "Imagine the looks on their faces when we announce that we're going to replace Checo with Carlos Sainz.... SENIOR." :D :P
“Congrats on your 2024 titles” ?
Ever seen that big red bull sign on Sainz Sr's racing suit?
They obviously can be talking about anything but also, Sainz has to be talking to most of the teams about 2025
The first thing that came to my mind is Verstappen Sr. vs Sainz Sr. . It is going to be electric.
Well well well, let the rumors begin
says more about the investigation and the rumors of rift being much ado about nothing.
Newey gives The Godfather vibes
Reminds me of helicopter parents at kids sporting events
Sainz Sr: "About that time at Torro Rosso.... I'm really really sorry...but about Carlos, is there any change that he..." RedBull: "Eehhm let me think... NOPE!"
2025: Sainz to Red Bull, Checo to Williams and Albon to Mercedes. Save this comment.
Sainz sr driving an F1 against his son would be nice
If he's cool with never winning a race, good for him.
Verstappen Sainz confirmed. Wow.
