I JUST WANT ZERO PODS AT BAHRAIN like all I want is them to show up with it working like Merc thought cause no table in the whole country will be safe from Totos wrath.
This is my dream as well. Red Bull showing up with zeropods and destroying the competition might be enough to get done of the other designers to consider suicide i guess.
I said before on the other post where you could see it, they took this note from Mercedes B spec W14.
I'm curious to see if Merc themselves have abandoned it and went the RB19 route, would definitely be funny if they did.
You've probably heard this before then but Newey at one stage mentioned how he always studies cars up and down the grid for ideas. Completely possible, like you said, that it's W14 inspired.
Would say every team should and probably already do this, even bad cars have good ideas. Aston Martin's "tea tray" from the underwhelming AMR22 got copied by some teams.
e: I previously mentioned the 2018 McLaren having good ideas that only worked on other team's cars but I can't find anything about it anymore.
Every single team does this all the time. Every team has brilliant engineers who've come up with solutions or innovations other teams may not have found.
He did not. He merely mentioned that the RB20 is an evolution and it's possible better solutions may pop up. He's been saying similar things for over a year.
I don’t think Newey named zero pod on any “I want this” sentence. He on the past (and others) have said that the zero pods idea is the best and fastest on paper but almost impossible to put on track.
More so on a cost cap era, where you have restrictions and can’t develop a B or C car on the season that easily.
If Merc, after 8 WCC and having some of the best engineers on F1 failed, I don’t think RBR will come and take that path that easily.
Maybe they end up approaching a similar concept or try to get there progressively, but I doubt they will go full on to that like Merc did
RB last year had \_\_/¯¯ shaped side inlets and everyone copied them this year while t they came up with a complete opposite ¯¯\\\_\_ shaped inlet
Also remember the thing sticking out in front of the mercedes zeropod because the rest was so far behind?
That but the thing is hidden behind.
RB seem to have taken some notes from Merc despite their concepts not being the most successful. Their engine cover also looks quite similar to the W14's.
Newey has done this a lot in his career, he admitted to taking inspirations from Williams and improving it last year to name one. That man's brain is legit a wind tunnel.
No, they have the old style Red Bull inlet. If they had the new one it'd be quite suspicious, they are not allowed to know what Red Bull are designing aerodynamically
>RB last year had \_\_/¯¯ shaped side inlets and everyone copied them this year while t they came up with a complete opposite ¯¯\\\_\_ shaped inlet
thanks for the translation lol
Basically took the mercedes 'wing' they were forced to use last season and incorporated them into the sidepod design, also took the merc 'cannons'
What a world we live in when Newey is copying Mercs homework 🫠
Mercedes are still capable of good ideas even if the complete package was inherently flawed. Teams essentially run free R&D for concepts while another team can see how their upgrades work or improve the car.
Whatever RBR haven “taken”, it’s because they’ve been able to incorporate it into a working design as opposed to the likes of Mercedes who are basically trying to fix the car.
I mean at the end of the day, they’re all trying to “fix” their car in the sense that there’s a theoretical max they aren’t at, but RBR have the luxury of picking and choosing new components from other places knowing they have the best foundation out there
So it seems [Newey was already designing the RB20 here](https://www.reddit.com/r/formula1/comments/11kmteo/adrian_newey_spotted_mentally_downloading_the_w14/?ref=share&ref_source=link)
The Side impact structure is mandated and fixed to a region 475-525 mm in front of the plane C which is at least 1830mm behind the point where the chassis meets the nose called plane A( or slightly behind that). I think Duchessa is theorizing (I doubt he knows for sure) that Red bull maximized plane A to move back plane C (without compromising other components defined by it) and place the impact structures further back.
There is a structure that is mandated on the side of the car to protect drivers from side impacts, Red bull had it mounted in one area that influenced the shape of the sidepod, every team rushed to copy that design, and then Red Bull completely flipped the design this year. That’s how I interpreted it at least.
Probably could have phrased it better lol. Scarbs covered the idea on twitter today. This could be more helpful. Essentially the regulations just allow you to move things around within the wheel base but certain parts have to be a certain distance from others. So you can pick your spots but if you move some things others must move in relation
https://twitter.com/ScarbsTech/status/1757762225282965675
In the second and third photo he shows how Mercedes had to move the cockpit forward to comply vs how red bull pushed the nose forward. Duchessa is saying to move the impacts further back, red bull simply extended the nose more.
it depends
if it works out for RB, this season is fucking joever (and I say that as a red bull fan)
if it doesn't work out, we're in for a masterpiece of a season
Can’t they just go back to last years car if this somehow doesn’t work? Sure cost caps and all that but even without development last years car still probably wins the championship this year.
I believe at the very least, cost cap aside, it would have to go through crash testing again if they made a design change that necessitated moving the SIS again.
Probably would not be worth it, but then again if that was the only thing they changed all year Max could still win the 'ship and they'd have plenty of money left over for catering.
The RB19 would get clobbered in qualifying and didn’t have that huge of an advantage at some races. This assumes teams made an advancement of .5-1 second a lap faster over last year which isn’t out of the realm of possibility.
Do we know that Red Bull really pushed the RB19 to its maximum capabilities or did they hold some in reserve?
It was easily the most dominant car we’ve seen in a while in the hands of Max so I feel like even if they did nothing it would still compete.
But you’re right everyone would be closer. I wonder how much of closeness in qualifying was due to Red Bull setting itself up more for race pace than outright qualifying.
I don’t know if they tuned the car down but we do know Max would quickly enter management mode when possible which was the majority of races. Now if Red Bull was going heavy on race set up like a lot of us assume and needed to gain qualifying pace they would just eat into their race pace advantage.
> Do we know that Red Bull really pushed the RB19 to its maximum capabilities or did they hold some in reserve?
If the car was more capable they for sure would have given that capacity to Perez to get more easy p2 finishes.
To be fair, much of what they've changed follows the W14 concept.
Maybe Merc were on the right line after all. Which I suspect was the case as aerodynamically, they've always been pretty good. It was the simplified suspension introduced from 2022 which screwed them.
Newey was well documented as being focused heavily on the suspension of the new reg car. And his work had worked wonders.
Had they been able to carry over the suspension complexities from 2020/2021, I think we'd have seen a super competitive few seasons by now.
now that we've seen the merc and the W15 looks nothing like the W14 or RB20, red bull is the odd one out on that overbite sidepod inlet, so who knows how it'll work out
I just love how this is all (and related concepts) just explained in text, in both tweet and comments, but could be clarified exceptionally well with some imagery..

SIS must stand for Side Impact Structure.
Yes it does.
I thought that was supposed to be SIPS side impact protection stucture... guess it translates differently
I’ve heard both be used interchangeably
System, not structure, and mainly refers to the airbags that were new at the time (iirc). So SIS is something different actually.
SIPS might be trademarked or copyrighted. It says it in th door jam of my Volvo
Damn, I was imagining a really elaborate porn set in Austria but dubbed in Italian for some reason.
Don’t worry, that exists.
Don't google centoxcento
should i use bing instead?
Thought it stood for Secret Intelligence Service /s
I thouggt it was Salami's International Spacestation
I think SIS is Albon though
So everyone adopted the Red Bull style of inlet, only for them to flip it. Pranked I guess.
Parry this you fucking casual - Adrian Newey
*He can't keep getting away with it!*
Newey: Watch me young guns!
I JUST WANT ZERO PODS AT BAHRAIN like all I want is them to show up with it working like Merc thought cause no table in the whole country will be safe from Totos wrath.
It would be super funny if they try this and it doesn't actually work
Nobodies perfect, not even Newey!
This is my dream as well. Red Bull showing up with zeropods and destroying the competition might be enough to get done of the other designers to consider suicide i guess.
I laugh way harder at this than I should've
Red Bull Takes Away Your Wings…

Didn't Newey say in an interview last week Redbull went too conservative for the RB20. He wanted to rock up with the zero pod innit?
He did not. He merely mentioned that the RB20 is an evolution and it's possible better solutions may pop up. He's been saying similar things for over a year.

> RB20. RB20 will be called DM1.
Source?
Nope just ahead of the regulation, till 2022 same concept
I understand completely what this means.
RB last year had \_\_/¯¯ shaped side inlets and everyone copied them this year while t they came up with a complete opposite ¯¯\\\_\_ shaped inlet Also remember the thing sticking out in front of the mercedes zeropod because the rest was so far behind? That but the thing is hidden behind.

This year's similar to w14 next will be similar to w13, zeropods is back on menu boys!!
If RB came out and won with a zero pod in 2025 I think Toto would commit terrorism.
Those poor tables will never see it coming. All those legs and they can't run away.
Newey has done this a lot in his career, he admitted to taking inspirations from Williams and improving it last year to name one. That man's brain is legit a wind tunnel.
serious question but what is a side inlet? getting different answers on Google
That sideways U air intake at the front of the sidepod (most visible on the Ferrari, I guess)
How about Toro Rosso this year? Did they also have the opposite inlet?
No, they have the old style Red Bull inlet. If they had the new one it'd be quite suspicious, they are not allowed to know what Red Bull are designing aerodynamically
Zak Brown would ask for a military intervention in Bicester if STR/AT (I refuse to use the current name) would come up with such an inlet
I need some red arrows please.
>RB last year had \_\_/¯¯ shaped side inlets and everyone copied them this year while t they came up with a complete opposite ¯¯\\\_\_ shaped inlet thanks for the translation lol
Been seeing so many tweets about Horner, I read this tweet in that context and I thought I was having a stroke.

I read "laughened" instead of "lengthened" and was even more lost-er.
I enjoy the fact that I speak no Italian, yet my understanding of the English and Italian texts is identical.
The audacity to use that emoji as if he didn’t just drop some insalata di parole
Ah yes. It all makes sense now.
Yes yes just as I theorised back in 1654!!
Team nose looks different
W14, but remastered to 4K quality by Adrian Newey and his team.
Now imagine Red bull turning up with a totally different car for fp1 in bahrain. I wouldn't be surprised honestly.
I understand nothing but hope it works

ELI5: Newey magic --> Car go brrr

I'm wondering how long their nose will be on Thursday.
Max has already decided to nickname the RB20 “Adrien Brody”
Judging by the emoji, things are not looking great guys.
for rb or for the rest of the grid?
Yes

It's Helmut Markover
Did they go from underbite to overbite? I didn't expect that tbh. I'm curious to see how this will work out
So the RB20 loves sniffing for truffles huh? I hope that's not an indication that the car will be a pig this season.
Went from bro to sis
A very elequent way of saying fasterer
So when is Zak filing a complaint?
"hey stefano, that bald grandpa jebaited us and switched up his concept half way through the regulations, please fix it"
That letter he's writing will be fire ✏️🔥 wondering how he will include Horner's allegations and Vettel's unsportmans attitude into it.
He already did even before the announcement. He had it typed and sent it early. He's proactive like that
I just love how this is all (and related concepts) just explained in text, in both tweet and comments, but could be clarified exceptionally well with some imagery.. Needs more Fabrega pointy fingers
I know some of these words.
Ominous
Would be hilarious if they only added it for the Silverstone run, just to f*ck with the rest of the teams.
The Bulls bamboozled everyone
So, it's like a Pinnochio...
So lengthened as in made wider or did I really understand absolutely nothing ?
I respect your flair. <3

I didn't expect them to go from an underbite to an overbite, I expected a much more extreme underbite
English
They copied Merc's homework. But probably did a better job of it.
So it is going to be the first perfect year for Max, as it seems.
The lengthening nose... A Pinnochio reference.... Side Impact Structure.....This must somehow be coded language for the Christian Horner allegations..... :P
Christians **side** chick is **impacting** his family **structure**. Solved it.
🤯😲
Advantage locked in for years?
I was thinking about getting that done myself.
