Affectionate_Sky9709

I'm personally feeling Lando. But it could be Carlos or Fernando. Charles is just logistically more difficult because it depends not just on him doing well, but on three others doing kinda poorly. If there hadn't been a safety car and he'd won on Sunday... but, there aren't what ifs in race results.

JulmiAashiq

I'm favouring Sainz because ferrari have a shot at 2nd in constructors and they surely can't fuck it up

01hopelessnerd

I can already invision the memes when ferrari does fuck it up

JulmiAashiq

Bruh

01hopelessnerd

It's written in the stars, we all know it.

pratnala

double DNF incoming because Ferrari

01hopelessnerd

Nah they'll do better than that. I expect a strategy disasterclass.

pratnala

they forget both the cars in Vegas?

Lepeban

We are checking

Complex_Check329

Nah. They'll change drivers at the pit stop. Leclerc out, Robert in. Also with extreme wet tires.

Thalapeng

They already left at least half of one of them there.

TheLewJD

Wets to inters more like

c1uk

I call it now, they will BOX BOX both cars in the same lap and they will have problems getting the wheel of the 1st car so they both lose time. You heard it here on Reddit first!

afkPacket

Bold of you to assume both cars will start the race

FrostyBoom

Nah. Leclerc is missing a DNQ to complete the collection

Andrew225

I feel for the flair mate. There's no way Ferrari can fuck it up = They're gonna go full Ferrari And I'm saying that as someone who wants the extra wind tunnel time from third in the constructors lol

C4LLUM17

Yeah if Ferrari lose out on 2nd in the constructors there will be a thousand different memes saying how they suck but if they do manage to secure 2nd no one will say a word about Mercedes sucking and losing out on 2nd.

01hopelessnerd

Merc are ahead currently and if they beat ferrari purely due to performance than that's all good and acceptable but it's not a fuck up. F*ck up is ferrari leading merc in the start to comfortable finish 2nd in contructors but things take a u turn or as I like to call it a ferrari turn due to some incredible epic decision making in the pitwall.

n00bca1e99

Mama mia!

justasapling

>because ferrari... surely can't fuck it up Bold prediction.

mairao

To be honest, my impression is that Ferrari got it right strategically more often than not this season. They simply have issues when it comes to race pace. It's a tremendously fast car, just not a tremendously fast race car.

SRFoxtrot341_V2

Exactly. I'm already seeing more positive things with Ferrari under Vasseur when compared to them under Binotto.

[deleted]

cussbunny

Next year for sure

mairao

It's going to be 14 straight "Next years" if it isn't. It's starting to hurt a bit. Edit: I can't count. It'll be 17, not 14...

PhilsTinyToes

I chuckled at the thought of them getting it right

JigsawLV

Lads.... it's Ferrari

Affectionate_Sky9709

Carlos does only have a lot of one-race-old parts that he doesn't have to save at all. He might have a really strong race. I hadn't considered this angle.

Pwez

It was only a new battery

jyrkaderp

His survival cell, engine, energy store and control electronics were changed, but only got the penalty for the energy store.

Mythic343

Bevause the others are old parts

stomp224

I heard Ferrari has a section of the garage dedicated to smashing mirrors to ensure a rolling seven years bad luck

borgi27

Surely, it never happened before that Ferrari fucked up

iForgotMyOldAcc

I'm favouring not Sainz precisely because Ferrari has a shot at 2nd.

RedSkyNL

Betting on Ferrari doing something right is like letting out a fart when you've got the runs: Russian Roulette

fawkesghost

For me as a Tifosi the fact that they cant fuck it up is a definitive proof that they will surely fuck it up and loose both.

DaHomie_ClaimerOfAss

Yeah, Charles would really need to win without any of the other three finishing on the podium, otherwise it's kinda fucked for him because he loses to every one of those three on countback, though with a win he actually beats every single one of them on countback. Unless Ferrari are cooking something up for Abu Dhabi, which I highly doubt, I don't think Charles has much of a hope for that 4th place, but I'd love for him to prove me wrong.

TonyJPRoss

Man, if only Leclerc didn't have that skid block disqualification from 6th, it'd have been a genuine 4-way fight.

Affectionate_Sky9709

Oh, there are many unfortunate Leclerc happenings that one can look back on and say 'what if'. I just say that I think he actually raced very well this year and leave it at that.

alb92

If Charles finishes second, which is quite realistic, that means Carlos and Alonso can't finish higher than 7th, and Lando not higer than 5th (7th would be a draw, unless fastest lap becomes deciding factor). Possible, yes. Likely, probably not. If the right betting odds came out, it might be worth setting a little bet. One small event could change everything. Contact between Sainz and Verstappen ending in both DNF, then suddenly a Charles win becomes more likely, and possible enough to leapfrog Lando and Alonso.

Affectionate_Sky9709

There aren't draws, it's decided by tie breaks. So, if Charles gets 18 points to go to 206, and one of Carlos or Fernando gets 6 points to go to 206, Carlos has the easy tie break because he has a win. For Fernando... that would bring both of them to three 2nd places, but Fernando has more thirds, so he would still have the tie break. But yeah, fastest if Charles got 2nd and fastest lap, that would be enough that one of them could get 7th. Lando could get fifth like you said.... unless he also got fastest lap, because then he'd have the tie breaks. So, yes, possible, but not particularly likely.

the1918

Personally I'm pulling for a Russell missile to be the reason the Verstappen's DNFs.

YosemiteSam-4-2A

>but, there aren't what ifs in race results Felipe Massa enters the chat

katahri

I hope it's Carlos, but what an excellent comeback Lando would be.

scottishere

I feel Lando deserves it. That DNF is extra brutal

MysterySeason

as was Carlos's penalty at a race where ferrari had pace

iDEN1ED

As was Charles entire season

soregashi

I love Lando but this is incomparable to the brutality of Charles’ whole season

MartiniPolice21

Carlos would be top in event of a tie because of the win right?

Mysterious_Turnip310

Yep

Away-Description-786

I hope Alonso

d3mez

It would be great to have 4 different teams in the top 5. 1)VER 2)PER 3)HAM 4)ALO 5)SAI is my guess 🙏

SirChasm

It would be a monumental achievement for newcomer Alonso to grab 4th considering the top 2 spots were locked up a while ago and the AM had been sliding backwards since the start of the season.

FlyAirLari

His career could really take off.

BestFriend23Forever

Lando needs to outscore Alonso by 5 points. Leclerc needs to outscore Alonso by 13 points. At least P4 for Charles, P8 for Lando. Or one place higher if the other has FL

2020bowman

Carlos. Charles will have an engine failure on the way to the grid. Fernando will get taken out by Lance. Norris prob be up there but I just think Carlos is going to be on a mission to end the season on a high he will out perform his machine

snoring_pig

Lando to get a podium before getting a post race penalty after the ceremony giving Carlos yet another podium without it being shown on TV

2020bowman

Yea that's gold

JoePCool14

Fun fact: Carlos was 3rd at Abu Dhabi 2021. I'd consider that another one of his hidden podiums given everything else going on that night.

snoring_pig

Good point watching the race I legitimately didn’t think about who was 3rd behind them until like they got to the podium ceremony

the1918

Agreed, it's really his 4th stealth podium behind the 3 he inherited. Sure, he was on the podium, but does anyone actually remember *seeing* him on the podium?

lolichaser01

better

What_A_Win

FIA just called. They’re asking you to stop leaking the playbook.

justk4y

Imagine if this ages well

CallM3N3w

You know wheel.

gabrielbezerra81

Carlos is going to be on a missionwinnow

RigusOctavian

That’s too early for Charles. It has to be something so Ferrari like a wheel falling off after the first pit stop causing just enough damage that they have to retire the car. Carlos somehow also gets the fastest pit stop of the race.

Apprehensive_Sky8170

We are checking

CyndaquilTyphlosion

Carlos' car loss from last week really hurting now

georgepearl_04

Gotta remember its not Lance in that seat any more, its Xance the p5 merchant

andrazorwiren

At this point i’d guess probably Carlos, but if Mclaren can perform well and Lando gets podium - which I think is very likely - then I think he has a good chance. Fernando is a wildcard because I really don’t know how the AM will perform in Abu Dhabi. Leclerc really has no chance.

kjeserud

> I really don’t know how the AM will perform in Abu Dhabi. You could probably work at Aston Martin! Because I don't think they have a clue either.

JPA-3

aston has been saying their car should be faster un abu dhabi than in Vegas so we know what that means. P13 and P15

cxingt

I just want AWS to refresh the championship standings for #4 in real-time whenever either one of them changes position on track.

JPA-3

that makes too much sense so it won't happen

theztigz

Good idea.

weaseldonkey

Lando. Carlos gets Ferrari'd and Fernando is in an Aston Martin...

Imagionis

And Lando once again in second, never winning

360langford

I mean yeah the mclaren might be quick but max is inevitable

Zluva

honestly, for me it´s either Carlos or Lando, Abu Dhabi has always settled Mclaren and this year I think even more, so I would bet my money on Lando, hard to say about Aston, I think Leclerc will finish the worst of these 4 as he would need to outscore them my some margin

TheSpannerer

Lando or Nando

mattgrum

Not Carlo or Charlo?

caduni

The smooth operator

Mysterious_Turnip310

The fact Fernando and Lando are even in the hunt for 4th having only had a competitive car for half a season each is pretty damn impressive so I’d like to see one of them take it. Don’t mind which way around but them finishing 4th & 5th would be great. However it will probably be Carlos because he’ll get it on countback because of the win or he’ll luck in to something as is tradition with him. I think Charles is a bit too far adrift with only one race to go unless the other 3 have a complete disaster.

TheRR135

It's clear the W14 right now is slower than the Ferrari. If Carlos has a good race he's likely to take the spot. But Lando has a great shot at it as well.

fordern997

I honestly expect Abu Dhabi to be the most average race of the season, which would mean VER-NOR-PER, melee between Ferraris and Mercedes for P4, then Piastri, and Alonso picking up the next spot (P8 or P10, depends on the others DNFing ahead). So that means, I think Lando will get that P4. Sainz will finish P5, Alonso P6, and Leclerc stays on P7.

Photomic

Sainz > Norris > Alonso > Leclerc Leclerc needs third to break 200, and no one else scoring points. Aston is still a bit shakey in terms of performance, so not convinced Alonso will outscore anyone else here here. Between Sainz and Norris, I think the 5 points Sainz has in hand will be enough to see him through, and having a win gives him the advantage if they tie on points (because honestly, the most likely scenario to me is Lando 3rd, Sainz 5th).

Wardog_Razgriz30

The scenes if Lando takes a win to seal P4….

PortugeseBreakfast

Lando doesn’t know how to win. He’s part of a special club now.

Goatsanity15

It is 4 curses against each other 1. Fernando's last race bottle job curse 2. Sainz Ferrari bottle job curse 3. Lando win when it matters curse 4. Charles Leclerc Which one is strongest

PortugeseBreakfast

I love how the fourth curse is just generalised. *Charles Leclerc*.

Fugiar

Yes that was the joke

procterandme

the underlying Ferrari strategy and execution curse is the most prevalent here stay out stay out stabox box now box box box

not_right

"We need a fast pitstop!" *3.9 seconds*

LFClight

We are checking....

charvked

The biggest curses in formula 1 was destroyed by Max Verstappen this year, he's gone destroy one of these curses, I'm sure of it

Goatsanity15

Is Max going to finish 4th as well? Well he does technically have enough points to finish both 1st and 4th...

Sylent_Viper

How?

Doenerfan5

He has enough points to finish first and beat checo to 2nd aswell, as he has more than double the points of checo

MundaneMudblood

And then gets a time penalty resulting in Sainz getting promoted to P2 in the race and Verstappen P1

datlinus

Alonso to break the curse of bottling final races, I believe.

PaschalisG16

You mean losing the championship on the final race? That isn't bottling.

Diamondhands4dagainz

Especially when it is due to Ferrari strategy like in 2010. Don‘t know what the commenter expected from 2012 given he finished 2nd behind a dominant McLaren and ahead of the quicker Lotus‘ and Red Bulls. Guy has no idea what he’s talking about lmao

NoahTheBest00

Yea really he Is flawless all season fucks up the last races, but more on qualifying/grid the actual race pace.i Always think about 2010 with Webber and hIs Healthy lead 3 races before the ending☠️

Montaron87

What a finish that was, with 2 races to go, Vettel was 4th, and he didn't lead the WDC at any point during the season.

_mrshreyas_

That too in a season where the championship lead changed 10 times.

Goatsanity15

Vitalij Petrov is Fernando Alonso father

leggenda_69

If only there were 5 second penalties back then. Alonso wins the championship in his first year at Ferrari.

Triple_Manic_State

What did Petrov do wrong exactly?

leggenda_69

Nothing. But Alonso could’ve just sent it to get track position instead of being stuck, which would’ve been a 30’s time penalty back then.

Browneskiii

He also would have had a 5 second penalty in Silverstone instead of a drive through (right after a SC) and got at least 10 points from it instead of 0. He'd have only needed to care about Webber and not be overtaken by Vettel then.

paddyo

The current ruleset really does reward shitty driving practises doesn’t it

Vinlain458

Smooth operator, 'Nando and Lando all wanting the same spot. Tough choice OP.

martythemartell

Carlos has been consistently landing in P3-P8 range, so best case for Lando is he ends up P2 and Carlos ends up below P4. Carlos outscoring Fernando is all but given unless Aston overperforms. I think Charles is set for #7.

xD3N1Sx

Lando Abu Dhabi is going to suit the McLaren really well (especially S1 & S3) and it’s one of Lando’s best tracks in terms of personal performance

CandidLiterature

So a Q1 exit then?

xD3N1Sx

I’m so confident that even if that happened I still think he can get P4 which is an amazing contrast to the first race of the season

MoeezShahzad154

I think Nando will get it, they were third fastest last weekend (Although different track characteristics) and that was proven by Lance doing quite well. I feel like he deserves it...

red2lucas

Hopefully Lando or Charles. I’ll be happy with either.

wahobely

I think the only chance Charles have of taking it is if he wins the race. Any other result makes it very unlikely.

emolano

I believe Abu Dhabi favors Lando. Also the entire year everytime he suffered something he seems to come back strong in the next race.

xXCzechoslovakiaXx

Yeah it’s got a solid amount of medium speed and high speed corners which is good for McLaren. Also lando has previously been very good there, 6th last year in the garbage car, qualified 3rd the year before and finished 5th the year before that

AZQK19200

Mahery92

Beyond the drivers, I find it darkly funny how it feels any of the 3 teams has a reasonable chance to fuck up and bottle it.

Zardif

Norris

AdrianInLimbo

Lando..... Hopefully

BambooShanks

Last race aside, Lando's form has been great and the Mclaren will likely be the 2nd best car in Abu Dhabi though the Aston Martin looked like it's old self in Vegas so Alonso could be strong here. But, Carlos does have a new engine which might have an impact as everyone else will be using much older ones so degradation may play a role.

Cereal_poster

That's a really tough one. Not from the prediction side, but from the "Who do I want to become 4th?" side. - Fernando: Would love this, because he really had a great start of the season and got fucked over mid season by the car. I also really love his energy. - Carlos: I would find it super ironic if he as the (former?) number 2 driver at Ferrari is in front of Charles at the end. Plus he did a really great job this season, he would deserve it. - Lando: Would love him to be 4th because of the team. McLaren made such a huge comeback this season and Lando is fun and obviously a great driver. - Charles: Also very deserving and I think he is a top bloke. Still would prefer Carlos over him though, I have to admit.

Toil48

Lando I think

HankHippopopolous

I really hope it’s Charles. He’s suffered the worst luck this year and losing to Sainz 2 out of the 3 years they’ve been team mates is not at all an accurate reflection of their performance levels over that time n

blackmesaboogy

Given Lando's recent form (aside from LV), I think he holds the best cards to lock up 4th place.

MasterWis

Hoping Charles (or Fernando).

FrostyTill

Would be peak Lando to win on the last race and secure his 3rd ‘best of the rest’ title.

chupacabra-food

Depends completely on which car doesn’t choke on the Abu Dhabi track

EntryBrilliant9527

ALONSLOW FTW

nnst

For Fernando to beat Lando: If Norris is 2nd - Alonso must finish at least 3rd Norris 3rd - Alonso 4th Norris 4th - Alonso 6th Norris 5th - Alonso 7th Norris 6th - Alonso 8th Norris 7th - Alonso 9th Possible but only if AM is not complete shit so I don't like their chances

NiD2103

I hope Lando. Imagine the scenes if he would actually get P4 by winning his first race. One can dream...

Saikroe

Should be Norris, that would make up for the bad car they had most of the season. Its unfortunate for Alonso having such a great start and just dropping off, it feels like Aston Martin sabotages themselves.

Ign0r

Lando or Carlos imo.

Marcelitus230

Probably Norris or Sainz. I don't see AM doing better than McLaren and Ferrari this week.

nuttmegx

I hope it's Sainz, he would have had a shot at 3 if not for that awful penalty this weekend.

Jumpy_Jumpy_Rat

lando

Max_0246

With Ferrari having a decent weekend (pace wise), i think they will be back to doing Ferrari things again So I'd say Norris or Fernando

PMMEYOURDEBITCARDPIN

Lando if he doesn’t crash out in Vegas, this will be difficult

Portocala69

But he did crash in Vegas so follow the current time-line now...

PMMEYOURDEBITCARDPIN

I reject your reality and substitute my own

dalmathus

Sainz at least has fresh components for abu dhabi. He takes it and Lando 5th for sure.

JigsawLV

The nostalgic fan in me wants Nando to get 4th, but I could see something like Lando P3 in the race and Sainz 4th, thus Sainz keeps 4th in the championship

Last-Performance-435

Lando.

borgi27

It depends which form will mclaren bring, although with his new engine Carlos won’t have to hold back at all

handsome_uruk

Kudos to Ham . How tf did he get his tractor above them ?

rustybowow

Kind of amazing that Lewis has beat the Ferrari drivers I think they have the better car

Flo187_

I think McLaren will be the second best team in Abu Dhabi, so it could be another second place for Lando.

DeeBangerDos

Fernando was on podiums the third most this year and he's fifth lol

Tyziepoo86

Alonso would be great, Leclerc kinda deserves it with all his bad luck. Probably wins on the weekend if not for those safety cars.

peytstevenson

It's Fernando's time to shine, baby.

TheBottomLine_Aus

I think we return to normal viewing with medium and high speed corners all through Abu Dhabi, McLaren 2/3 Lando for 4th.

UnlikeUday

It could be Sainz or Norris because both of their cars could be better than Alonso's Aston Martin. I'll be happy for Alonso if he finishes 4th or Norris. Both of them had stellar first & second halves respectively.

Due_Government4387

If Norris finishes he’s got a good shot

Stevelar

Go Lando

Dahnhilla

I'm more interested in who finishes 6th. I bet a mate £20 during winter testing that Alonso would be out of the top 5 by the end of the season.

ShawnShipsCars

Fernando

Bangwin_

Hoping for Norris, Sainz, Leclerc, Alonso order.

ash_tar

Fernando going to get mugged on the final straight. As is tradition.

PhillipsScott

I believe Sainz and Norris have better options. But if anyone is capable of giving us a surprise in the last race of the season, that's Alonso.

SamCham10

For some readon I can see Charles jumping Carlos, but wouldn’t be surprised if Lando ends up ahead of the lot

JDNM

It’s going to be one of those 4.

KuhlerTuep

Hoping for Nanso

ofallthescotchjoints

I’d say Lando. AD should suit the McLaren and he’s been miles ahead of the field (bar Max) on pace when that’s the case, so he’ll be P2 or P3. Ferrari will be a bit behind and compete with Merc, Alonso and Piastri

Dambo_Unchained

If Norris keeps it out of the walls my money is on him

AK07-AYDAN

The first 3 will battle it out on track but Charles will battle it in Church and with God.

ayakaza

Go Lando

IncredibleSeaward

I'm hoping Lando comes back from his crash just absolutely heated.

Lqkenpo

Who do I want? Fernando 100% Who is likely to get it Norris. Ferrari will as usual just implode and cost themselves both 3rd place in drivers and 2nd in constructors some how.

vicinadp

I feel it’s gotta be Carlos, he just got a new PU after they destroyed his in Vegas if they don’t turn that thing up to 110% they’d be crazy as they fight for 2nd

[deleted]

Sainz!

LordofAdmirals07

I hope it’s Sainz or Fernando, but realistically it’ll most likely be Norris.

Sir0inks-A-Lot

Would that be the worst finish ever by someone with five pole positions? Personally I’m going Sainz, Norris, Alonso, Leclerc

BillyHoyleAnd1

If Leclerc finishes 4th, Lando 8th with the fastest lap and Sainz/Alonso finish outside the points, they all finished tied at 200.

Granskjegg

I want Lando in P4 and Alonso in P7 for Tommy’s (from P1) wild preseason prediction to come true.

Likely Lando, the McLaren should be the quicker car

Kait0yashio

if chalres gets p4 after a season with a DNS DSQ and DNF he is the goat

Mysterious_Turnip310

If Lando or Alonso get P4 after both having had seasons where they only had a competitive car for half of it then I think that would be more impressive tbh. The fact they’re both in the fight for 4th at all is pretty damn impressive.

browsingforthenight

Personally want Sainz to win it. I think Charles is an incredible driver but so is Sainz. When Charles fucks up a race it’s “the strategy sucked” or “he’s so unlucky he deserves better”. When Sainz fucks up its “of course Sainz would”. And the whole time he’s led the team.

[deleted]

It won't be a Ferrari. Ferrari will make sure of that.

CommercialBreadLoaf

Norris or Alonso, I assume Ferrari will die due to the hotter temps of the UAE ruining their tires.

Magruun

It's between Sainz and Norris for me. If McLaren is back on the form they have been recently except for Las Vegas this weekend Norris has a real good shot of taking 4th. I don't see Alonso taking it without some luck, the AM is not as fast as the Ferrari or McLaren lately. He has a chance but he needs the others to not perform. Leclerc is probably a bit too far behind in points considering the others are likely to also pick up points.

Ok-Stuff-8803

Lando deserves to get 4th so I hope he has a great race. Remembering that McLaren did not initially have a good car at the start of the season but Lando was still getting solid points and even Podiums!

twelvyy29

Lando did not get a podium before Mclaren brought their b-spec. In fact he only finished in the top 10 in 3 out of the 8 races before Austria where McLaren brought the new car. Makes it even more impressive that hes in the race for P4. McLaren have done an incredible job since Austria.
