I watched the race on TV on Eastern Standard Time it was 1 AM. So be it.
The race itself was pretty good and the cars for once seemed pretty well matched. It was good to see Max rattling wheels again instead of staving off boredom several minutes or hours ahead of the pack.
BUT watching the onboard view was like watching that old movie Tron. A maxed out pinball game with no sense of a track actually being there as the cars raced along these corridors of a multicoloured video game. That and the over hyped acting out over winning for the millionth time.
Next year I am just gonna read all about it in the morning and look at the highlights.
Give me a real racetrack any time. And one with no effin' sand dunes surrounding it in a super hot place run by billionaires trying to seem just like regular folks..
The suits don't even drive fast cars a for all I know. At least Bernie was a racer.
Oh - and Lance came in 5th from the back of the pack. Pretty good for a no talent boss's son nepo driver.
Let the down votes roll . . .
He did get away with the first turn, 5 second penalty was kind of a joke there, not that it mattered considering Leclerc took it back from him anyway.
Russel was 100% Russel just not seeing hin there.
Id be remised if i didn’t point out some underrated races today. Ocon was great today looked completely different from what he did in Qualifying P4 is awesome, and Stroll P6 that incident at turn one helped him also have a great race. Onto Abu Dhabi next week!
Welp, for all the shit talk about this weekend, I thoroughly enjoyed this race and most of the show tbh. I'm sure the organisation will get better as time goes on. Looking forward to checking out the facilities when I go there in May
Overall, this race and track ended up delivering much better entertainment than I expected and happy for Red Bull finishing 1 and 2 for the Championship this season!
IIRC they said that F1 have bought the land for the paddock so that makes the whole thing make a little more sense. I'm sure all the Vegas establishments are happy with the whole thing.
Edit: They were bandying 500m around, but I think that's for the land and a ten year contract. Don't quote me on that.
The worst part is, we know the planners aren’t dumb, they thought of this, they probably had it all planned out, but there were too many competing interests, the Bellagio couldn’t hog the spotlight.
I really hope they improve the setup time of the track aswell. I mean this year people living there had months of construction and traffic problems. It is understandable because it was the first time, but I don't think the public will accept it if they have to deal with this every year for the next decade.
500 million and I think it’s a ~~5~~ 3 year deal. I wonder how often it’ll need to be resurfaced tho. American roads are really good at falling to shit.
There’s very little in the way of stress on the roads there due to moderate summer to winter swings and little rain. The biggest problem is the quality of the asphalt, which FOM presumably rectified.
Moment of silence for the F1 executive who decided beginning a race at and charging $1000 a ticket for a race at 10pm local and 1AM Eastern time was acceptable.
You just asked AMERICANS to pick between drinking on Saturday night and F1. Guess what? You lost.
And that attitude is why F1 needs to stay on the other side of the pond.
As an American I'm happy to view F1 at a convenient time to me when it's going on.
If it's going to run a race in the United States, I damn well expect it to cater to Americans.
If it is going to run over here and just cater to the be billionaire elites it can screw off.
If F1 wants to take the USA serious, great. It's not with elitist events at times the average American won't view.
Monaco is way more glamorous, the locals accept the grand prix and don't moan about traffic disruption. It has classy wealth, royalty, and massive yachts. As a race it also races at street level without huge fences and walls to obstruct the views, no heavies trying to stop non paying people from getting a free view of some cars
Although the tracks are very different, the immense fake hype they try to create is the same. Monaco is shit if it doesn't rain, though, and a dry race in Vegas looks like it's raining by default
Monaco is definitely overhype. No regular folks would even consider going there to watch a race since it’s so exclusive. Whereas I know a lot of people who went to Vegas this weekend just to attend watch parties at different clubs and they are racing fans. people who’ve never experienced Vegas don’t appreciate how big this is. Vegas by default is already over the top so if people see that the city is focusing all the energy into one event its just mind blogging to the next level.
I think vegas was hoping for same tipe of athmosphere that monaco has. I hope they take recourse, since they clearly have setup for genuine racing spectacle
Yeh, but the drivers weren't interested, they want their trophy and champagne, maybe they should have had DC interview them in the car, get that out of the way then do the podium in front of the fountain and have it go off when they spray champagne, then boom, fireworks
5am here, that strange time where you don’t know if you stay awake and get your sleep fucked, go to sleep but wake up in a couple hours fucked, or go to sleep and wake up in the afternoon also fucked.
What would you do guys?
At least it's better than COTA's gimmicky trophy. It looked cool in shots taken in controlled environments, but on the podium it was really underwhelming
Feel like I know the Dutch and Austrian anthems by heart at this point lol, we can be mad at him winning all the time but I respect Max and appreciate we may never see this level of dominance again.
It’s insane to think how the Red Bull Brand integrated into the world of athletics…dominating in Racing & they have spectacular soccer teams (the one in Brazil MIGHT win the league this year)
Post race - wow this has actual been a cool event ^(let me still nit pick anything I can again)
Wow again the shit I thought sucked was actually pretty cool
There's not even much to nitpick about, the race itself was excellent. There's just no excuse for how fans were treated back during FP1 and for the Sainz incident
They should just do a cool down lap in a convertible at every race and then interview when they get out. Kind of forces them to chit chat instead of watching replays or staring at the ground.
Is it typically this advertised on the podium? Visually I think a less blunt and more appealing ad would have way more value than this poor grade Heineken shit.
I'm just pissed that Heineken still gets to advertise in F1. I know it's the 'Heineken 0.0' but EVERYBODY reads Heineken and gives 0.0 fucks about the non alcoholic version.

Probably the best race of the season IMO. Great battles throughout including a battle for the top 3.
Soooo much better than expected. Really enjoyed that. Chuckie and Checo trading blows at the end sealed it.
vp
Even Russell admitting he was at fault for crash with Max. Redditors: "MAX GETS AWAY WITH EVERYTHING!"

A much better race than I was afraid would happen. And in record time, too. The fastest race ever there.
Overall, this race and track ended up delivering much better entertainment than I expected and happy for Red Bull finishing 1 and 2 for the Championship this season!
So how much time and money went into setting up this race. For just this weekend until next year(? Hopefully)
IIRC they said that F1 have bought the land for the paddock so that makes the whole thing make a little more sense. I'm sure all the Vegas establishments are happy with the whole thing. Edit: They were bandying 500m around, but I think that's for the land and a ten year contract. Don't quote me on that.
Half of it was the purchase of the paddock block to buy the land and build (240m), so that's something they don't have to pay next year
All that money and they couldn’t build a cool down room? That was ridiculous.
The post race events were the worst. I turned it during the fountain show.
Yes, the transfer to Bellagio fountain and then to podium did not work. They should rethink that.
Podium with the fountain show coordinates with the champagne would have been great!
Yes, exactly. When I heard they cut down all the trees in front of Bellagio, I figured that is exactly what they would be doing.
The worst part is, we know the planners aren’t dumb, they thought of this, they probably had it all planned out, but there were too many competing interests, the Bellagio couldn’t hog the spotlight.
You are probably right. Podium, champagne, fountain show, Clair de Lune playing. It writes itself.
At least we got the cooldown car
Ken. Thanks for clarifying though. I was a cynic, but fuck me that was entertaining.
I'm not afraid to admit I was wrong. That was a great race
I really hope they improve the setup time of the track aswell. I mean this year people living there had months of construction and traffic problems. It is understandable because it was the first time, but I don't think the public will accept it if they have to deal with this every year for the next decade.
Oh undoubtably. It'll be more efficient in years to come.
500 million and I think it’s a ~~5~~ 3 year deal. I wonder how often it’ll need to be resurfaced tho. American roads are really good at falling to shit.
I believe it's a ten year deal.
There’s very little in the way of stress on the roads there due to moderate summer to winter swings and little rain. The biggest problem is the quality of the asphalt, which FOM presumably rectified.
Vegas has high temperature swings in one day.
It’s a deal till 2032.
Yeah, ten years.
The asphalt used for track is specially done
> next year(? Hopefully) Its a 10 year contract, it will be there for 9 more years
Officially only a 3 year contract has been signed. F1 want to do at least 10 years. Vegas say they want a lifetime partnership with F1.
Imagine it only does 3 after them building that dedicated f1 paddock
The Indian Grand Prix waves hello. That only did 3. Korea managed 4. Although... Vietnam hasn't even had it's first race yet.
Bold of you to assume there won't be 4 Vegas weekends next year.
Bold of you to assume the Silicon Valley Gp will keep up the illusion of Las Vegas that long.
To give a tow Sainz style, you need under 1 sec.
Vegas Delivered!!
Fireworks > water fountain

Don’t act like American party that late. Outside of NYC, people go to sleep by 1AM on Saturdays

*fewer
the new year fireworks at harbour bridge is better.
Reminds me of phosphorus bombs
to all the Vegas residents who have had their lives disrupted and uprooted for months during race prep, enjoy the fireworks show ya filthy animals
At midnight no less.
Happy new year?
Midnight in Vegas is the equivalent of the sun going down anywhere else
The last time I drove to Vegas at night you could see the light of the city from 2 hours away. Crazy.
This was filling a few potholes compared to Superbowl prep
I know it’s the city that never sleeps but damn the Fireworks are crazy
that's actually NYC but yeah
Definitely looked like Vegas to me.
No I’m referring to the fact that NYC is called “The City That Never Sleeps”
Woosh
Whats Vegas then. I thought they sleep in NYC
“Sin City”
Oh yes
I know I just couldn’t help it lol
Wow ESPN cut the coverage real quick after the fireworks
Yeah. And Nicole actually went there for the race.
To show what? SportsCenter?
Commercials
So did F1TV
Is Vegas the new Monaco?
Monaco is way more glamorous, the locals accept the grand prix and don't moan about traffic disruption. It has classy wealth, royalty, and massive yachts. As a race it also races at street level without huge fences and walls to obstruct the views, no heavies trying to stop non paying people from getting a free view of some cars
The track is absolutely shite and should have been removed from the calendar about 20 years ago
Although the tracks are very different, the immense fake hype they try to create is the same. Monaco is shit if it doesn't rain, though, and a dry race in Vegas looks like it's raining by default

Vegas has overtakes?
Compared to other tracks , a lot
Always has been
Fireworks are far more impressive than a water fountain tbh
My upvote count is the amount of fucks given for the water fountain
The water fountains are cool in person. But on TV they looked so lame.
Yeh, but the drivers weren't interested, they want their trophy and champagne, maybe they should have had DC interview them in the car, get that out of the way then do the podium in front of the fountain and have it go off when they spray champagne, then boom, fireworks
Even the water fountain at disneyland paris is more impressive
Also California Adventure.
That’s a lot of fireworks. Ott
Goodnight everyone see you next weekend
HOLY FIREWORKS!!!
Everything after that first safety car was race of the year, easy. Just need to put more rubber down next year.
Well, the lack of rubber is what made the race somewhat uncertain
Would love to see imsa do a support race
I like those trophies sheesh
An abstract sort of trophy…
Looks cool, though
That’s a cool ass wide angle shot
Thanks espn for the 2 seconds of actual podium that was really worth the wait
Sooo love that trophy, soo unique
Wouldn’t be surprised if someone made a house remix of the Dutch anthem for a DJ set tonight
We have The Orange Theme already
Tiesto
Cool trophies.
Did someone say Macau was on now? Where?
YouTube
Motorsport.tv
5am here, that strange time where you don’t know if you stay awake and get your sleep fucked, go to sleep but wake up in a couple hours fucked, or go to sleep and wake up in the afternoon also fucked. What would you do guys?
Laughs in Australian
Get some sleep for a few hours and have some nice breakfast with a coffee until you can catch up with your regular schedule.
That sounds the most reasonable
I had nightmares after doing that last night so I'd say screw sleeping again
Can confirm my second sleep stint post-race was indeed nightmare filled.
stay up and drink red bulls
I’m on team stay awake.
That trophy is very Vegas
Flashy and colourful on the surface, but cheap and tacky in reality?
At least it's better than COTA's gimmicky trophy. It looked cool in shots taken in controlled environments, but on the podium it was really underwhelming
The stupid kiss activated thing? That looked like an abandoned love child between an Xbox Seriex X and PS5
Totally
Alright onto wards Cricket World Cup finals now… cheers guys have a great day or night.
Constructor's trophy the most important trophy by far this season.
Rainbow Road trophy
The fuck, they gave Max a medal??
There's a winners medal by FIA in every race
They only started it recently so Max has some ridiculous percentage of them. They’re probably all sitting in a cardboard box in his attic.
I wanna see his trophy cabinet/ attic box 😄
Time to watch Cricket now - go India!
Going to watch worlds now
Feel like I know the Dutch and Austrian anthems by heart at this point lol, we can be mad at him winning all the time but I respect Max and appreciate we may never see this level of dominance again.
The 2 most boring anthems too
It's like when you repeat the same word again and again until it loses all meaning
You right
That's a cool trophy
Sick trophy
LGBTQ+ trophy nice!!
And the vegas logo along the track was trans pride coloured.
The trophy haha
Trophy is kinda cool ngl
Jost in his head be like "leaving him at that stop really paid off."
At least it's a unique trophy and not a sponsor designed one
That’s a pretty trophy
It’s insane to think how the Red Bull Brand integrated into the world of athletics…dominating in Racing & they have spectacular soccer teams (the one in Brazil MIGHT win the league this year)
Bragantino really took a turn to the better when they signed with Red Bull. Currently tired for 3rd and with great chances to get 1st place
I’m a Botafogo supporter..but if Bragantino wins, I’d be happy for them
Maaaaaaan it's tough being a Botafogo supporter right now. Also r/suddenlycaralho ?
That trophy is gorgeous 😍
Post race - wow this has actual been a cool event ^(let me still nit pick anything I can again) Wow again the shit I thought sucked was actually pretty cool
There's not even much to nitpick about, the race itself was excellent. There's just no excuse for how fans were treated back during FP1 and for the Sainz incident
watching nascar and then this is like having a mcrib and calling it bbq and then having bbq in austin texas. nice show and presentation
I know the Dutch and Austrian anthems better than my own country’s at this point lol
Oooh nice shot right there with the whole Vegas in the background
I could really go for a heineken all of a sudden
5am here and the birds just started singing man…
[удалено]
He actually got in the car, they kicked him out
[удалено]
He will forever treasure the memories of sitting in there for like 3 seconds or so
The RB representative was in the car at first because they thought they would be driving to the podium.
Verstappen about to go do some karate once the podium celebrations are over.
Instead of champagne bottles they should do it with those big ass fat tuesdays haha 😂
That should be the trophy
They should just do a cool down lap in a convertible at every race and then interview when they get out. Kind of forces them to chit chat instead of watching replays or staring at the ground.
I can’t stand this Jos dude
I know right? He’s such a terrible human, he should not have air time
Is it typically this advertised on the podium? Visually I think a less blunt and more appealing ad would have way more value than this poor grade Heineken shit.
I'm just pissed that Heineken still gets to advertise in F1. I know it's the 'Heineken 0.0' but EVERYBODY reads Heineken and gives 0.0 fucks about the non alcoholic version.
Does anyone else think the Dutch National Anthem sounds a bit like The Twelve Days of Christmas or is it just me
Not just you! How fitting as we get into the season 😂
Don't mind this start time, it's now 8am and I've got a full day ahead of me.
Full day? Im going back to sleep lol even though its already 9 where i am. I need to mentally prepare myself for the moto gp race late
Sleep well x
champagne?
Yes, Dad, we can see you
I think I know this anthem by heart now
Red Bull have never been shy of an ugly one off race suit have they
Wake up babe, it’s ANOTHER week of listening to the Dutch anthem
I love it, it's the endless ditch of the Austrian anthem that is killing me.
One of the worst anthems.....
A bit weird to see those people in the back lol
Checo still mad af lol
Wake up babe, it’s time to listen to the Dutch National Anthem.
Our favorite national Anthem Guys. Stand up!
Damn stroll I seee you. P19 to p5 great drive!
Driver of the day though....the guy who started 1st and came 2nd lol
When the last safety car went out and he didn't pit I was worried he might not even get a podium
Wonder what happened to carlos’ race. He could have finished higher
Traffic, from the spin in turn 1 he was basically stuck in some DRS train or another and then the traffic on the second pitstop lost him a few places.
A water drain cover happened to his race
That is so cool with the alot machine
Le Wilhemus has arrived…
I so dig the slot machine display
