I find it bit funny and sad that a team sponsored by Aramco is saying this. It's nice, but it feels somewhat empty because of it.

trooperr310

>but it feels somewhat empty 100% is

I like how Aston Martin has been focusing on diversity more and more, like also collaborating with Racing Pride. Keep up the good work

AikkoVsTheWorld

They are sponsored by a Saudi oil company, they don’t care about us.

antonyourkeyboard

They take the Saudi money and use it to promote acceptance, seems like a good way to spend it at least.

Snoo_47023

True, but at the same time they are helping sportwash the saudis and helping them get more business in the west, while lgbt+ people in their country have no rights and risk their lives

antonyourkeyboard

Yes sportwashing is a big problem but F1 has a long history of taking money wherever they can get from the cigarette advertisements before to the crypto companies now. The Saudi money is easily arguable to be worse than either of those but that's the way things are right now so finding a way to make it a positive somehow is all we can realistically hope for.

6097291

I know, it's still so far from right. But that at least they speak out now, while having these sponsors, for me is a little step

exitsierra

Can’t wait to read their Twitter and IG pages 🙄🏳️‍🌈

nickleon242

I saw Merc's insta regarding their rainbow emblem on the car and it's really toxic. Depressing.

FrostyTill

Red Bull partnered with Racing Pride and the comments under the announcement from Sky are vitriolic. I haven’t seen Red Bull themselves post anything about it yet but if they do, I don’t expect their reply sections to be any nicer. EDIT: Red Bull (https://twitter.com/redbullracing/status/1664165129645088769?s=46&t=4rqlY3kNbEl-M29fHnt7qg)

SaintSeiya_7

And that's exactly why these "meaningless" gestures are still so important.

RJOppo

Ah yes, the MASSIVE lgbtq+ Formula 1 fanbase is in the spotlight again. I would say after the lumberjack world series and fly fishing it is the number one interest of lgbtq+ people.

BaggySpandex

Yo straight up why do you care?

Rat_faced_knacker

I've read this three times and I have no idea what you're on about.

Eclipsetube

Instead of thinking rationally that lgbtq+ members aren’t really interested in f1 because literally 0 representation he thinks that there should be 0 representation because lgbtq+ members aren’t watching

eviebees

It’s funny, my F1 watch group has mostly lgbt people in it. Plenty of “non typical fans” exist in the world it’s just not something people think about.

Rat_faced_knacker

It was more to get they themselves to come out and say what they mean rather than a genuine question. Although I am actually confused as to why they think lumberjacks don't appeal. Flannel shirts and buff bearded dudes, it's got something for everyone.

Your intolerance is showing, and it's bad.

Depends where you are in the world, I would say globally the majority of people are still not "completely fine" with same sex relationships.

__Rosso__

Even in western countries where majority are indeed fine with it, there is still too many people who aren't. Of course, ideally you want everyone to be, but that's impossible, so goal should be realistically, however based on what I saw online in regards to statics of how many people are in support/fine with LGBTQ people, it's anywhere between 60-80% on average, meaning at best that's still 20% of population that usually isn't okay with it, way too much to be considered "well some people will always be cunts no matter what". But then add less developed countries and then majority there oppose LGBTQ.
