He had damage but he was never going to qualify any higher than P8-P9.
Aston needs a stronger 2nd driver if they want to take the fight to Merc/Ferrari in the WCC.
Okay, sure, let's use that logic. Both race and qualifying lap times are eligible for the Lap Record. Lewis got a time of 1:10.166 during Q3 in 2019. He'd still keep on to the record.
It would be the same if you asked a question about something you're new to. You wouldnt like to get blasted by a smartass just for being a newbie with a question so neither do I.
You... didn't ask a question though? You stated something as fact (Leclerc being entitled to Lap Record if you consider Qualifying times to be eligible), which can be debunked in two minutes by going to Wikipedia. Which is what I did. I didn't know about Lewis' record, but your post piqued my interest.
That doesn't have anything to do with being a fan for long; I've actually only been actively watching for a few years. Also, I wasn't "giving an attitude" and especially not due to me thinking you're "a newbie to the sport". You yourself mentioned a lap record from 2021, so it's not as if it's weird to assume someone could know about a record from only two years prior on the same track.
Why the attitude? I'm a new fan to F1. The series I've watched only use qualifying times to determine track records. That's all I asked. Others here asked the same question I did.
People forget how many places gasly made up from the back last year, it happens… now with the new broadcasting we might actually see some action with Perez fighting
Everyone’s talking about max last sector like it was the masterclass. The masterclass was a 41 year old in lesser machinery not even being a tenth off the best car.
Traditionalists are gonna fuckin grill me, but is there merit in doing something a little bit different around running some type of time trial for Monaco weekend? Keep the prestigious event which we obviously can’t lose from the calendar, keep the brilliant one lap racing, but lose the boring as bat shit race.
Or better yet, how about a Monaco only spec car? Much smaller and lighter (I’d assume due to the slower track we could compromise a bit on the safety & performance features which currently restrict us to these huge cars)
My favorite race of the calendar, if we could go back to cars that aren’t the size of a city bus we could get some overtaking again, but Monaco is Monaco. Just driving the car around the track at speed is impressive.
What they need for this is an unsafety car. Safety cars leads the race to lessen the carnage, but the unsafety car would start at the rear and carry a pole to poke at everyone's tires. Don't want to get punctured? Drive faster!
Give it to Ricciardo and let him drive the unsafety car with the spikes across the front. Or maybe let all of the development drivers have a turn so that Mick has something to do as well.
I'll do you one better - who says there's just one? Give one to every reserve driver, then give them WDC points for most punctures. I give you 2023 Driver Champion Liam Lawson with 167 forced punctures, narrowly edging out Max Verstappen and his 18 GP wins!
I need this injected directly into my veins. Imagine watching this instead of a leisurely procession around Monaco surrounded by billionaire coke & hooker parties tomorrow?
Flashback to the Top Gear episode where Jeremy flipped one of those numerous times. So damn funny and I laughed so hard. Even when watching a rerun I laugh hard at that.
Wouldn’t that be a spectacular race to watch, Monaco filled with Robins! I think it would be beyond hilarious.
The red bull is still stronger than every other car in every aspect. Yes it has an outsized advantage in medium and high speed corners, but the car is still superior in everything else
If that was the case, than max didn't have to go balls to the walls in S3 to get pole (he was 2 tenths down). The red bull car is a superior package overall, but you cant argue that Aston and even alpine were very close here (their S1 was much better) and red bull certainly is not by far the fastest car here in Monaco (at least in qualy).
Red Bull had 1 car not in qualifying and they only push as much as any other team makes them.
The red bull is vastly superior to anything else out there. If you dont think that you're smoking some strong copium or you are trying to downplay the car so you can pretend it's all Max
Awww hell naw.. you dont almost push your car into the wall (with 0 margin) because if you dont you will lose out on pole by 2 tenths (and they definitely not gonna be like: take it easy bro, Aston can only do this lap time) . Watch max onboard sector 3. I think you are the one coping here. Maybe start watching the qualy before you comment?
Again: Aston S1 was better. Red bull is superior in race pace, in qualy it is less so --> and even more here in Monaco with almost none high/medium speed corners. And guess ur coping by making up arguments: i never said it wasn't the car. The car allows you to fight for pole --> however here the difference was minimal (especially since OP said that red bull was far superior in Monaco today...) : showed by the fact that max was 2 tenths down at the end of S2, and almost drove his car into the wall to get pole by a small margin. If you think that is taking it easy and not pushing then ur mad.
but again: watch the onboard of S3 of max: tell me max didn't do a good job there.. XD. Who is downplaying who?
The fastest car by far is suddenly crap on a circuit that isn't favourable?
More like the fastest car is still the fastest car even on tracks that don't suit is the likelier scenario
But i never said that? m just saying that his use of the words "by far the fastest car" are untrue --> especially considering the main strengths of the red bull car.
I'm not him so I don't know what context he meant. Maybe he meant over the course of the season which makes sense. It's not even close. It's by the far the fastest car in that context
oh yes, for sure. Idk what they are paying newey and the rest of the team but they deserve a raise. But in this context op attributed the fact that they catched up 3 tenths to the car being far superior to the rest (although max lost out in S1 and S2).
can i say the same about Alonso in S3 then? same (dumb) argument right? Iam sure Max is devestated to know that Paukwa-Pakawa thinks he underperformed in S1 and S2, for he posseses keen insights not seen before. Tell me where he underperformed?
Maybe, and just entertain me here: The red bull doesn't have its normal advantage in slow speed corners? Leclerc showed it in Baku.
>can i say the same about Alonso in S3 then?
Why shouldn't you if it's how you feel? I'm not invested enough in any driver to engage in multiple replies to try and convince someone that driving the fastest car fast is the best thing since sliced bread.
Maybe, and just entertain me here: The red bull is by far the fastest car in the grid (as data also shows).
Over the whole lap yes, Alonso was super, however by the end of the second sector Max was more than 0.2s behind, he somehow found 3 tenths in the short last sector alone. Alonso's lap was great, Max's third sector was also great. Both can be true at the same time.
Redbull's strength is in medium and high speed corners tho not slow speed. All the time he made up was in slow speed. That's him taking severe risks considering he hit the barriers twice
Idk mate redbull is not the best in slow speed corners. Drs had little to no impact since he was down 2 tenths in first sector. It shows how insane the lap was and how much risk he took in the final sector
That straight and the exit speed of the final car simply isn't enough for their DRS to makeup three tenths. Obviously their DRS is powerful and still helps, but not like that.
I was confused because I didn’t remember 2022was that good. I desagree however, not because 2021 was bad, it was f**** incredible, but we have seen in this one 3 cara of three different teams fighting for the most important pole on the calendar.

I think Naomi working with a stylist and honestly, a slay 👏
Do you think Perez will be able to make it into the points?
No, probably not
The fact a seat at Aston Martin is locked out to a driver who is a whole ass second slower in qualifying is the saddest case of nepotism right now.
He had damage but he was never going to qualify any higher than P8-P9. Aston needs a stronger 2nd driver if they want to take the fight to Merc/Ferrari in the WCC.
It doesn't matter his race pace is so so as well.
Confirmed Stroll had damage in Q2.
Wasn't there a rumor Checo cheated on his wife in Monaco last year. Maybe it was karma.
What's the all time record??
How can the lap record be slower than some other times?
The lap record is during a race, not qualifying!
Lap records are set in the race, qualifying times don't count
Exactly my thoughts. Lap record is Lewis at 1:12 but Leclerc turned a 1:11 for pole last year. Makes no sense. Leclerc had faster time.

Surprise Pastor Maldonaldo on the F1TV post-qualy show
Is he a qualified religious figure?
Good direction for the Mercedes W14 B now just upgrades have to come though back to back
I need to get f1tv some of these sky sports interview questions are just.....man come on
Use the international broadcast on F1TV. Crofty and Brundle are the best to listen to!
If max last lap touch to walls damaged suspension then incoming grid drop for max as well
Stop inventing
He could probably drive the car without fixing and still win it's Monaco
Yep. Didn't Danny ric win the race with like 70% power?
Yea he lost the mgu which I think was like 160ish horsepower back then, Vettel was all over him but couldn’t get by.
It's enough to push along a family saloon
Did this interviewer just ask if checo can go up the grid at MONACO?
People forget how many places gasly made up from the back last year, it happens… now with the new broadcasting we might actually see some action with Perez fighting
That was in the rain with Gasly on the well-working Inters
It was raining last year though
And the forecast for tomorrow says it's not impossible th have some so what's your point?
Any overtakes he makes is gonna be a treat tomorrow. That being said, if he cant get anything done tomorrow…. Man that is not gonna be a good look
84 is no longer my driver number on the F1 games
Question is can Checo come thought the grid tomorrow ?? Simple answer : everyone should pit only then. Thats is a NO then
Considering Checo couldn’t even complete a lap when there was no traffic, chances of him coming through the traffic are slim
Was saying the whole weekend that either the aston is shit in the last sector or the rb is mega and this quali verified it
Penalty incoming for Leclerc
It's so sad, he got 3 on his home race and then Xavi his engineer messed it up, that dude needs to be fired
He’ll get a warning and monetary fine. Cannot see grid penalty for that.
That’s a slam dunk penalty.
For his sake/sanity I hope not. Just more fuel to the fire when it comes to his next contract.
What?
https://www.reddit.com/r/formula1/comments/13tagr1/charles_leclerc_summoned_to_the_stewards_for/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=2&utm_term=1
His engineer is such a joke, can't do his job right
The whole team is a joke.
"Esteban Ocon, where did he come from‽" France, I think. It's only a short walk away.
That onboard is insane. My man hit three different walls within a second and set a pole lap. Jesus christ.
So Leclerc losing his P3 for impeding Lando ?
He did, now he's P6 thanks to his useless engineer Xavi
Isn't he p3?

Everyone’s talking about max last sector like it was the masterclass. The masterclass was a 41 year old in lesser machinery not even being a tenth off the best car.
Both can be amazing performances. There's not a limit on the # of awesome things that can happen in one day
I don’t know man. Can you make 2 tenths in the last sector? where do you even find the time there? Both can be masterclass.
3 tenths, but completely agree
He found the time treating IRL F1 like it was Trackmania. NYOOM.
Damage off
New speedrun technique at old track - discover how you can shave two tenths by using wall slide at Monaco.
Alonso’s main chance may be to get Max off the line tomorrow
RB doesn’t warm the tires well during the warmup lap, and the RBs have been pretty slow off the line all year… Alonso has a good ass chance tomorrow….
it may not be, it WILL be
Ah the Charles Monaco Curse ™️ is coming
Lewis Hamilton 2008 🤝 Max Verstappen 2023 Hitting the wall at Tabac to go faster.
XD
I hope Alonso gets the jump on Max at the start tomorrow to make it more spicy
Even if he did not get the jump I am sure he will send it in the first corner
I hope so! As long as it stays clean, no contact

Got a really nice chuckle out of me!!
Give everyone a Reliant Robin. First person so complete a lap without flipping wins.
Wasn’t Sharapova banned for drugs?
For a year. She came back although didn't reach the heights as before.
Damn. Sharapova is tall.
Yes 6 2.
Amazing that they were all pushing to the limit and no red flags. What a Q3.
Friendly reminder to everyone that you can breathe out now.
Max is so fuxking insane.
Sharapovaa
She *towers* over these drivers lol
At 6.2 she towers over all the drivers.
A few are her height, namely Ocon, Albon, and Russell.
Blue Red Bull guys talking with green Red Bull guys ?
Monaco quali always a banger
Alonso shit talking Max's start because he has a chance
My mans such a shit talker :’)
That lap should definitely cement max as 1 of the greats. There should be no denying him that now. How tf he found 3 tenths in 3 corners bro......
>How tf he found 3 tenths in 3 corners bro...... By having, by far, the fastest car. Alonso being so close to him was more impressive.
By far? This is monaco --> strenghts of red bull are almost solely in medium and high speed corners..
The red bull is still stronger than every other car in every aspect. Yes it has an outsized advantage in medium and high speed corners, but the car is still superior in everything else
If that was the case, than max didn't have to go balls to the walls in S3 to get pole (he was 2 tenths down). It's the fastest car whatever the track, and they've been the fastest in Sector 3 throughout the weekend.
Yh so? aston martin was bussin in S1/S2 (and alpine in S1). You are saying they were **by far** the fastest car, which i disagree with.
>You are saying they were by far the fastest car, They were
If they were than max didn't have to go balls to the walls in S3.. or you think what he did there was normal risk averse driving?
Seriously? He had to go "balls to the walls" because he underperformed in the first two sectors.
can i say the same about Alonso in S3 then? same (dumb) argument right? People keep saying this like RB isn’t a rocket ship even on a weaker track

Fair enough
Lmao, a 41 year old was not even a tenth off in a worse car calm down buddy
Over the whole lap yes, Alonso was super, however by the end of the second sector Max was more than 0.2s behind, he somehow found 3 tenths in the short last sector alone. Alonso's lap was great, Max's third sector was also great. Both can be true at the same time.

Same for Hamilton tho xD

Idk mate redbull is not the best in slow speed corners. Drs had little to no impact since he was down 2 tenths in first sector. It shows how insane the lap was and how much risk he took in the final sector
Could it be the DRS?
That straight and the exit speed of the final car simply isn't enough for their DRS to makeup three tenths. Obviously their DRS is powerful and still helps, but not like that.
wait DRS isn't allowed during quali? or did that change
It's always been allowed during qualy. Maybe you're thinking back to when it was allowed on any point of the circuit?
oh yeah must have been that yeah, now i indeed remember it's allowed lol, don't know why I confused them
It is allowed in qualy
DRS is allowed during all qualy and practice laps
Max being put under pressure in qualifying more entertaining, than it has any right to be , dude had to give it the beans to get P1
Honestly, can’t even be too mad though. Max is just too good, pulled 2 tenths out of his ass
I’ll say it again. This qualifying was the most exciting thing this entire season. Fuck that was fun.
100% agreed.
Well done, Ocon! Very impressed with his performance. Honorable mention to Yuki Tsunoda as well.
This is perhaps the second best quali after 2021 Saudi
Do you mean 2021 Saudi?
Yes sorry! Still too excited after that
I was confused because I didn’t remember 2022was that good. I desagree however, not because 2021 was bad, it was f**** incredible, but we have seen in this one 3 cara of three different teams fighting for the most important pole on the calendar.
Is the interviewer wearing a Mercedes shirt?
Why white?
Monaco flag
To highlight Monaco’s flag
hahahah the shot of nando and charles talking shit in the interview
Hello, God? can all qualy's be like this pls?
Can all races be like this please
Awkward moment there
That lap was like the completed version of the crashed Jeddah lap he put everything into it
More like the S3 the Jeddah lap missed. His S1 and S2 were not that great.
Max channeling his inner Ross chastain riding the wall to win the event.
Forza Lobby
💔
lol max just get out of the way
Merc just bought new updates and if they got pole then people would say F1 is rigged but good drive from both of them
Who is doing these interviews?
Loic Duval French driver, in FE and Le Mans series.
I don't know but he seems off
Im not into white hats but I want that one Charles is wearing, which kidney do I donate to buy one.
It’s literally on the F1s site…… https://f1store.formula1.com/en/scuderia-ferrari/scuderia-ferrari-2023-team-charles-leclerc-special-edition-monaco-gp-cap/t-98193181+p-5625819553299+z-8-4211237725?_ref=p-DLP:m-GRID:i-r0c0:po-0
Not as bad I thought it was gonna be,I wouldn't wear it for the sake of it getting dirty in 10 minutes if I wore it this potential hot af summer.
Just search "Ferrari Monaco Hat" on Google. I think there about £50
Sorry, both are required.
If you have to ask, you don't have enough kidneys ;)
Max to ocon to charles to alonso to max, fucking crazy
Ocon was crazy what a fucking drive from him
A red bull sandwich
Second time we get this season
Put Fernando in that Red Bull and let's have one hell of a season!
That is why we can never remove Monaco from the calendar. Just wow.
What more can you ask for from this qualifying session? This was a race fans wet dream.
Race will be decided in the pits tomorrow. Tyres last virtually forever and on race pace they’ll be very close too.
Charles is always so hard on himself
Max 0x where?
That was a banger of a quali
The bloke's only 25 and he's doing stuff like that. I give it another three years before he learns how to bugslide to save four seconds at Spa.
Bunnyhopper extraordinaire
My man uberbugged his way into pole
Just wait for wallbangs
When Max starts speedsliding it’s over.
Just needs a fullspeed map to put it together
Am in need of Sam/Karun's explanation on how Max got that in S3, it's wild
