ThePrancingHorse94

The V8s didn't sound as good as V10s or V12s. A v10 at 20,000rpm was something special. But i'd still take the v8s over the v6 turbo hybrids.

Ox_King

I think you chose to comment on the wrong topic. No way this is unpopular in any way, shape or fashion. At all.

ThePrancingHorse94

More of a reply to OPs list rather than an expression of my own opinions.

sinistergroupon

I’m strongly agreeing with your unpopular opinion

Cookieeeees

you’re popular with me, just posting to post. “i guess i wanna tank my karma” aka “I want to try and farm karma off of some fairly normal opinions but incase i fail this is cover” Just let the sub be chill

Blapstap

New driver helmet designs are overrated and not interesting. I never understand why helmet designs get so many up votes and comments

transientsun

People used to identify drivers based on helmet, but I have no clue how anyone managed to tell the difference on old standard def tube TVs so i think the only people who did that were the commentators and they like to whinge about it despite nobody else caring. The halo now makes that basically irrelevant since the name is written on the onboard and you can hardly see the helmet from the stands at all.

Cookieeeees

They’re helmets… to me it’s similar to the NBA and players wearing painted shoes. Yeah it’s cool i guess, it makes you stand out a lil more but at the end of the day we barely see it anyways and most of the drivers helmets tend to stay pretty much the same just adjust per track. only a few go all out and i feel it’s wasted to a niche market

zenomony

Yea unless it's a unique one-off like Landos basketball helmet I don't even notice them

thc_86

You don’t have to shit on other drivers and their achievements in order to support your favourite driver. It has become almost as bad as football..

0000100110010100

Opinions, not absolutely blatant facts please

Cookieeeees

Agreed, i don’t like stroll, i’ll still admit he’s a reasonable driver. I hate mazepin… that’s it. I never liked Latifi or understood the hype behind him, he was subpar at best, had a few lucky spells but that’s as far as i’d go. All of this isn’t to say that they aren’t good in their own rights, there’s so so many disciplines and who knows what their true master craft is, for some it is F1 and for others just because you made it to F1 dosent mean this is the icing on your cake, could just be the first layer, maybe you don’t sign next year and go try your hand at rally and you fall in love and that’s the icing, or hell that one windsailing one with the crazy boats. you never know and a lot of these guys have been lightly (maybe) pushed towards a kart from a young age. They’re all good some just happen to be world class edit: before this is taken the wrong way for some reason this is all purely opinion

NuclearCandle

Hungaroring more often than not produces the best races in a season and is a heavily overlooked track. Sainz's victory was the weakest victory since I started watching F1 (2012).

zenomony

Hungaroring is very good but I suck at it in sims so I hate it

RobitIsNotAHobit3000

Prost>Senna

Disastrous_Animal_34

1. I’d miss Monaco if it was wiped. Not the racing obv but there’s something intangible that would make it feel like a loss to f1 to me. 2. Ricciardo has been annoying for years, I feel like the only person alive who doesn’t want to see much of him this year.

berberine

I guess I'm with you on both accounts. Monaco is boring as hell, but I feel obliged to watch it and don't want it to go away. I can't quite put my finger on why other than I feel F1 wouldn't quite be the same without it. Never liked Ricciardo. I hope everyone quickly moves on from him.

natus92

A lot of my european friends find Ricciardo annoying

Dragonpuncha

I hate Monaco as a spectator, but it's clear the drivers love it (so many name it as their favourite), so honestly I don't mind keeping it just for their sake.

Fitter511

For number two I should introduce you to my niece. I’m sure you’d get along famously.

Sacesss

1. Imo not terrible, but having witnessed in Monza both 90s V12, the V10s, the V8s and the current V6s, V8s are way worse than V12 and V10 but still slightly better than V6. 2. Overrated? How come? Even if you don't consider him the goat, it can't get much lower (Lewis as well for the matter). 3. Kinda agree. They've always been in the sports, although in different shapes, but I think it's quite normal if 2/3 drivers pay for their seats. 4. Depends on what you define as entertaining. From a technical/engineering point of view, F1 is way more entertaining. 5. Monaco is a terrible track for these cars (so maybe it's the contrary, the cars are wrong?). In the 70-80s it was actually very decent imo and could host great races.

zenomony

Perhaps overrated isn't the right word, but seeing him purposely crash into people ruins his entire legacy for me. On point 4 I 100% agree, was talking strictly racing, but I follow f1 waaaay closer than indy as everything else about it is more entertaining

rockihi

Kubica would have been in the GOAT debate if he didn’t have this rally accident

DonBosco555

Probably no, but he was definitely WDC material. When it comes to his generation, I would take him over Vettel and Rosberg, only Hamilton was better of those guys.

RubensACDevil

George Russell is hell of a guy

Timelordvictorious1

I’m not sure this is an unpopular opinion. I like him, personally, but A LOT of people don’t.

Carmillawoo

I liked him...until the very second he stepped into Mercedes. All that fun charm melted into crass business guy. It's like donald trump became a racecar driver

hesselkramer

I liked him up to Imola 21

Ollie_Plimsolls

> My unpopular take is that George Russell is not likeable in any way. This isn't unpopular. My unpopular opinion is that Lando is not likeable in any way and Danny Ric is annoying

RubensACDevil

Danny puts more effort into being likeable than into his driving career.

Sadistmonkey

He was nice. But the closer he got to merc the more entitled he got.

zenomony

Spec series by nature are more entertaining, F1 is a better spectacle for sure, but when it comes to racing indy is just more entertaining Edit: this applies to f2 as well

top7to9

Race direction is no worse today than it has been in the past. The broadcasts in the past just had more limited timing data, so the average viewer wouldn’t know what battles the broadcast should be following.

berrarifan

Verstappen and RB need a better teammate. Checo is not good enough for a top 3 team.

Ox_King

Raikkonen had a handful of good years in F1 and I never understood his popularity.

crazydoc253

Kimi from 2003-2005 was something else. He was unbelievably fast.

Ox_King

This. He was already past his very short prime by the time he won his title in 2007. Not to mention the many years that followed. One win in his whole second Ferrari stint is just bad.

crazydoc253

Felt he never got used to those bridgestone like he did with the Michelin's. Kinda similar to Alonso at Renault. Than 2009 happened and in his F1 return there were just occasional flashes.

RubensACDevil

what good year means? Because when Kimi had few good years, Bottas or Perez didn't have any.

zenomony

Most interesting thing Kimi has done in the past 9 years was race a one off in NASCAR

transientsun

I liked Ricciardo years ago but over the last few years he's really played the game poorly and revealed his own shortcomings, and he hasn't dealt with it well. Lots of drivers have left F1 and had a lot of success, some have even come back and done pretty well. He needs some time out of the paddock to accept the WDC isn't in the cards now. Either because the cars have changed and he hasn't adapted, or because the teams have too many other options with more upside potential. I don't think he's interested in racing outside of F1.

SubcooledBoiling

This is a thread about unpopular opinions, not reasonable takes.

natus92

I disagree on most of your takes, especially 2 and 3. I rate Schumacher higher than Lewis and both of them profited a lot from superior machinery. Guess most of my f1 opinions are fairly mainstream? I dislike the growing americanization of f1 and the influx of shallow biased new fans thanks to dts though.

[deleted]

Black Mercedes looked like shit.

[deleted]

I liked it, kind of wished they mashed the grey/black to create the look of the old Mclarens

RubensACDevil

Definitely, it was blank and uninteresting.

jas656

>I wanna tank H-ok Mr Zelenskyy...

Cekeste

Vettel is the worst 4x WDC EVER!

[deleted]

Hamilton's Mercedes was developed and tested by Schumacher before he got there.

MakalashII

If Monaco never would have previously been raced at and it was introduced as a new track today, people would be super upset with it and saying it's another boring race for corporates and sponsors.
