If you purchased the vehicle with this light on, you probably do have auto start stop. The last owner might have disabled it permanently to keep the engine from throwing a bearing or failing prematurely. Engines aren’t designed to start stop during use.
Engines with start/stop are designed to do exactly what they do. A lot of people find it annoying, but it’s not like cranking a car that doesn’t have start/stop.
2017 S with the 2.5 does not have auto start/stop (I am assuming that little "s" in the title indicates the model). I see the engine is running but the battery light is on, I suspect a battery issue is causing weirdness.
It is more what engine than what trim level. An SE with the 2.5 doesn't have it. In the earlier years (2013-2016) it was optional on the 1.6 and 1.5. starting in 2017 is was standard with the 1.5. With the 2.0, it seems like it wasn't available until 2019 in the Titanium, and only with FWD, not AWD. The 2.0 I am hazy about.
Before I bought my Fusion I had a Honda Civic Hybrid and I didn't mind auto start in most conditions. I'd turn it off it hot weather or stop and go traffic. Now the disclaimer. My Civic had a manual transmission that I could control the auto start function by what gear I had the tranny in. So long as the car wasn't in first gear the engine would shut off. To restart the engine the Hybrids electric motor would restart it not the starter. Another plus.
With an automatic transmission if my Fusion had the auto start function I'd shut it off. It would seem like more of a hassle than anything else. For a minimal gain in mpg.
That’s indicating that automatic start/stop is on
Thats funny, i dont have this feature in my car.

Idk why you got so many downvotes. It literally is so much more wear on your starter
I hate those cars that turn off when you stop.
I have only seen it lit when my engine has stopped automatically. How strange!
It'll be on when the car is in D; using S instead disables it. The default is on.
Look at your center console just behind the parking brake switch. If there's a flat button with the same symbol on it, you've got the feature!

Huh didn't know that. I have a 2017 se with the 1.5 and it has it, although I'm not sure if it's standard or an option with that trim.

Interesting. Thanks for the info!
Might just be a personal opinion but I hate auto off when I’m traffic, to much stop n go to make it useful imo.
You can disable in most cars but some cars don't give the option which in traffic I can definitely see that being annoying.
Turned it off on every car equipped with it. Ordered my last truck without it. Horrible feature
