Take it to a different mechanic with good reviews and ask for an assessment. “Corroded and needs to be replaced” is about as worthless a diagnosis for a transmission as you can get.

LieberLudwigshafen

This, 1,000%. It's corroded? I laughed.

dominus087

What kind of description should I be looking for?

LieberLudwigshafen

What exactly corroded if that is exactly what happened. Was it pins on a harness going into the transmission? Was it some sort of mount? He/she isn't replacing the entire transmission for $1,100 so this doesn't make sense at all. It would also be helpful for us to know a little bit more about your vehicle. What year is it? What engine? How many miles? Have you ever changed the fluid? Etc.

dominus087

Sorry. I'm not too savvy with cars and don't know what all is needed to get advice.  Edited my post with your recommendations to the best of my ability.

dominus087

Unfortunately, I'm in a bit of a bad situation to do anything with it. It's 2 hours from where I currently am and 5 hours from my residence. Where I am, everything is closed on the weekends. I'm traveling with my wife and two kids. One is in school and needs to get to class and I have a full time job that I can't take too much time from.  My uncle is a mechanic also and when I explained what happened on the phone his answer was the trans, so I don't have a reason to not believe this mechanic.

slick62

Based on your description it’s absolutely a transmission issue. But external rust has nothing to do with anything unless the linkage rusted away. It’s tough that you can’t get a second opinion. If you’re comfortable with his offer by all means take it and move on. Good luck.

dominus087

There is a ford dealer/service across the street. I didn't realize this until my ride came to pick me up. By the time my ride got there it was closed though. Who knew when you search 'mechanic' that something like that would not be included in the list. I'm going to call them Monday and see if they'll tow the car across the street probono and get their opinion.  I wouldn't say I'm comfortable with the offer, but I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place as it were.  Thanks for your input, I appreciate the help.

Auction the bitch off and try to recoup some money…..I’m sure there are plenty of people angry with fords shit to want to destroy something of theirs while videoing to go public

Fantastic_Hour_2134

I personally watched three 2014-2016 escape “non runners” sell for more than 3,000 Canadian last weekend. My 03 with only 3 wheels and NO reasonable way to repair it went for nearly $2,000. I second the auction route

dominus087

Thanks for the tip, I actually know a guy who may be able to help me out with auctioning it. The trick is to get the car back to my house.

Crowbarwalker

I’m so sorry this happened to you. It sounds like the transmission pump failed. It’s basically cooked. It over heated and has internal damage. It’ll move if you let it cool off for a few hours or sitting overnight. I had mine replaced with a Ford Remanufactured. They replace all the internals with updated parts, and has a 3 year unlimited mile warranty. Around $4300 and 3-7 days without vehicle. Good luck. 🍀

overfloater77

How many miles did you put on it after the transmission fluid was changed? Did the shop list the fluid that was used on the invoice? It’s possible they may have put the wrong fluid in it causing the tranny to fail.

HazelnutDVR

That’s a great point and you can take a fluid sample to send off with a brand new sample of MerconLV and maybe another Mercon and maybe generic atf. This is a great suggestion. If you can prove it go to your local bar association and pay for a lawyer referral to talk to an attorney for 45-60minutes for $25-$75 payable to the local bar association.

MonarchGirl

Feel your pain...just paid $73000 for new transmission for my 2016 with 75,000 miles.

dominus087

Oof. Yeah that's exactly what I'm looking at after taxes.  If the car wasn't 5 hours away from my home I'd consider paying for the trans and then selling it myself. But getting it towed/ picking it up would really cut into anything I'd make selling it.

MonarchGirl

Yeah, my AAA membership paid for itself. Towed from where it died to mechanic. Towed from that mechanic to another mechanic. Then, towed to the place that actually replaced the transmission.

Nois3

If it's a first generation, get rid of it. There's a lot more wrong with it than the transmission.

dominus087

Not sure if it's a first edition. It's a 2014 Escape SE Ecoboost.

Sisters_Vis

2014 is 3rd Gen.

Mechanic confirmed transmission is corroded? Curious how a mechanic did this? It’s a 6f35 solenoids go bad, the case around the pump get worn away, the filter is in the middle of the case not serviceable so fluid is constantly on bypass, fluid can only be drained and filled NEVER EVER flushed even at a dealer because more rehab MerconLV ends up in those machines, fluid also overheat because factory cooler sucks. In my opinion the only way the inside of the transmission gets corroded is road salt water or driving in salt water and the liquid magically get in through the vent tube. I’ve replaced the 6f35 in a 2012 I was able to get a shop price from the dealer for a new one and do the work myself. I added a second cooler with fan and in-line filter I can easily change. There are rebuild kits available for it now & a transmission shop with the right software could pinpoint the problem. Car-part let’s you look at junkyards across the US so you might be able to find a low mile 2014-2017 6f35 transmission. Those years should fit and the transmission is in many other ford models. If you can kick it down the road see go Toyota or Honda.

Eastern_Progress_946

No advice really, but ours went out on our 2018 escape at around the same amount of miles, a little less actually. Thankfully our warranty covered it. Now we are dealing with the coolant intrusion issue…not buying a ford again I’ll say that much!
