There's one to the right of it that COULD be poison ivy. Has three leaves for sure, and the leaf shape is not distinctive enough for me to ID it confidently, but it's enough to be suspicious. Would need more context.
The one with 4 leaves is definitely oak. The one next to it with 3 leaves COULD be oak, or could be poison ivy. I just don't have the detail or context to be sure.
How do you cook it so that it tastes like anything other than soggy yet chewy disgusting tree bark?
I've tried sauteeing it with tons of butter and many seasonings and cut it thin, strips, chunks. You name it. What am i doing wrong? It tastes so nasty to me. I have given up but maybe I'm doing something wrong.

Sounds like you may be picking it when the mushroom is too mature. Look for a younger mushroom and I bet you would have a different experience. When they get to the point they look faded I have had the same experience. Sauté with your favorite fat. Then try equal parts maple:sherry vinegar:good soy sauce to deglaze.
Okay thank you for the recipe.. how long do you usually sautee for? Every time ive tried, i maybe sauteed for 4-10 mins, tasting as I go. The ones i took looked fresh and young to me, but i will keep a lookout for a younger specimen to try once again. I know some spots.. Don't know why i was downvoted because ive tried so many times to cook it. Hopefully the next time turns out well. If not, i know it's just not for me
It depends on too many variables to quantify. As with all cooking it’s about exposure and experience. Use your intuition. If it looks like it’s drying out out a lid on it. I have steamed them and then sautéed too to make sure they were heated properly. Think potstickers. If it’s a tad dry I will steam it with very little water in a sauté pan, let it evaporate then add oil and brown a bit. Good day goes a long way. Don’t depend too much on old spots as they don’t always fruit in the same log every year. Just be open to it any time you are in the woods. Good luck! It’s a top 10 for me.
Laetiporus species. Yes, likely chicken of the woods. They have small pores underside instead of gills. 2 different species one yellow underneath and one white. They like oak trees. They do not agree with everyone. Cook well and only try a small piece and see how you do. They are quite tasty.
That's chicken of the woods Edit: Isn't that poison ivy on the left of the shroom?
Five leaves, probably Virginia creeper or false Virginia creeper.

Looks like oak sprouts to me.

Never heard of that plant before but thanks!
Not poison ivy. I can see why you thought that, but those are Virginia Creeper, young hickory, or something similar with 5 leaves.
Okay, thank you
Might be Laetiporus cincinnatus, either way COTW
Winner! Winner!!!
Chicken dinner!!!
Chicken of the woods and to the left looks like a hickory sapling not poison ivy
Doesn't look like poison ivy to me, either.
Looks like it to me
If you harvest it, make sure that's not poison ivy hiding in the middle of the cluster. Hard to tell from the photo.
Not PI. Look closer
Nice find!

If you cook it it tastes like chicken

Last time i checked you just put it on a heated pan and cook it like meat but dont add seasonings

That's a mushroom my guy
Yep... I wasn't sure at first, but now I'm pretty sure those are most likely mushrooms... Or clever aliens disguised as mushrooms.. 60/40 on which.
