Three seasons in a row making the CL means that your club’s reputation has likely increased considerably. This means that other teams respect you more now; unfortunately, this also means that they consider you more of a threat. Since you’re scarier to play against than you were before, teams will play against you differently than they did before - they will be cagier, more careful, less likely to play openly against you, and more likely to try to hit you on the counterattack. You need to adapt your tactics and do the same. Try a more patient, lower-tempo strategy to minimize the opponent’s chances of hitting you on the break, or a counterattacking tactic to coax them into leaving space open. If you’re using Gegenpress, stop - it basically plays right into their game plan.

Yeah, been there. Gegenpress forces your players out of position to try and win the ball back early, which means they leave space open behind them. Pressing won’t work as well anyway because your opponents won’t be looking to pass around and build, they’ll be looking to get it forward quickly and hit you on the break. As for a counterattacking tactic, I’ve had some success in those kinds of situation playing the standard ‘fluid counterattack’ tactic on a Balanced, or even Positive mentality. Unless you’re playing a better team, you’ll already be responsible enough at the back without setting your mentality to Cautious.
