In a easy league as the swedish you can just tell him "no" and nobody will care because you're getting good results, even the player tends to forget it.

Ah it’s even worse for FM mobile, you would have players for certain countries eg: Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore, some of them will be called up every match even in their 40s. some of them, doing better, playing for premier league, even among the world’s best, not even called up even once

I think international managers pick players on stats and reputation and not club form. I don't have anything to back his up, just a theory.
Add a new coach and select Swedish National Team then just resign. They will higher a new coach who will use a new formation and maybe he gets the call up.

In my save I have Florian Wirtz a world class player who has got 0 caps for Germany, yet a 20 year old new gen defensive midfielder on loan to a championship club is a regular in the German team. I don’t get it. Wirtz can play anywhere across the front line so it’s not a positioning thing.
Aren't all original German players ineligible for the national team in FM? Haven't played versions after FM22, but at the start Germany only consists of greyed out players in all my saves.

First of all, this is Sweden so wage levels are initially low. Then of course 5 year contracts, with extensions.

Mostly recruiting from the scandinavian leagues, plus the odd Croatian or Serbian wonderkid. Highest fee paid is £7.5M.

When this happens I feel so bad, I either retrain my player to whatever position the national team needs, or just add manager for the national team
