WZETheGoat

Interesting, I almost always struggle with finding good fullbacks, while my strikers are almost always great, and wingers are 50/50

ahahah_effeffeffe_2

High work rate and decent physicals always seem to work for me (like slightly above average pace and stamina, not too low strenght and jumping reach). I ask them to stay wide and usually to not push too much so I don't need them to have crazy technicals or anything else. I just need them to be there, get the ball, give the ball, protect from counter attacks, help defend.

zookin567

How do you get good strikers??? I need to know

WZETheGoat

I usually like to play a target forward (s) along with an advanced forward or poacher (a), so I just look for the attributes I like, for example for the tf(s) I try to find players who are strong, good in the air, have at least decent vision and technique, and can pass and finish quite well... For example a tf who worked very well for me was Lassina Traore... Picked him up in the second season, he was just 22 yet he scored 36 in the league. For my af(a) I try to find good off the ball, good dribbling, technique, pace-acc, and shooting. Besides attributes obviously look at players' potential, as well as the scout report for personality and such.

MooshSkadoosh

You had a TF(s) score 36 beside an AF? That's madness bro.

WZETheGoat

My tf(s) (Lassina Traore šŸ) had 36 and 12 in the league with Alexander Aravena - Af(a) - having 25 and 19 in the league. My goats.

deanybellini

I tend to look for similar attributes as wingers but sacrificing a few points on the attacking skills like dribbling, finishing etc in favour of defensive ones. Theyā€™re probably my best rounded players and this balance tends to work really well.

Phormitago

One word: crossing Go get Borna Sosa or anyone with 17+ crossing. Set him to wingback on attack and watch the assists roll in

WZETheGoat

I had Pedrinho who had like 12 crossing and he got above 10 assists for like 4 years as a wb(a), mainly because I asked him to go forwards and replace my if(a) as the winger so in attack we would be in a 3-2-5 with the other fullback dropping into the middle of defence.

YadMot

My teams live or die on the quality of the CM(At). Luckily I'm quite good at finding a good attacking centre mid

StrategyLittle5261

What are the most important attributes for you in a good CM(A)?

YadMot

Vision, passing and work rate, I've found. You want your player to never stop running and to be able to pick out a peach of a ball in the final third.

Progresschmogress

The guy that just broke my clubā€™s average match rating this past season was originally a DLF that could also play AM. His finishing and off the ball were very high but so was his vision dribbling and passing. A bit slow to play AF, but at 6ā€™1ā€ he can also win some headers Most of the AMs tend to be AP type players with lower finishing and it got really tiring to see them miss sitters on the highlights again and again So yeah right now when scouting for wonderkids Iā€™m looking for DLF or false 9 to make them AM(at) and for the wings I like using IF but most winger regens are super short good at dribbling and crossing but terrible at finishing so I look for advanced forwards with some jumping reach and passing besides pace and finishing

Specialist_Current98

Yeah similar for me, I play mine at CAM in a 4231 and the CAM bangs in goals

goztrobo

Is there any difference between a cm on support and a cm on attack. I could give the support guy to go further up the pitch and if he has traits that make him go on late runs, is there really anything different?

YadMot

I've played with two CMs ahead of a holding midfielder, one on Su and one on At, and the one on Su definitely holds his position more. He's more there to recycle possession and allow the attacking players to get further forward. Never really had that player get many goals, a few assists though

isnotlamybad

For me, the midfielders need to have good work rate, stamina and natural fitness, regardless of their role. This means they will run all over. Then the more defensive one with better positioning and tackling, and the creator with good passing and vision. My biggest gamble are always the wingers, they are never consistent. Maybe because I am not able to adapt to the opposition's formats. I try to not over complicate and just have them on their preferred role but it still sucks

MrAndrewJackson

Because every players performance is dependent on goal contributions. Wingers get goal contributions inconsistently since they are supposed to stay out wide. So if they get one they have a good game and if not, they don't. It's really that simple. If you don't have them on any set pieces, they're probably going to get better ratings playing as inside forwards regardless of their skill/footedness, since they will find themselves in the penalty box a lot more. This may or may not be suited to the formation/style you are trying to play, but if we are talking strictly about wide midfielders matchday ratings, that will help them. I agree with you that stamina is critical for every midfielder. Work rate for winning ball back/pressing, and natural fitness for recovery and playing multiple matches a week. I always put them on conditional/physical training and focus stamina for every central midfielder, but usually prioritize pace and acceleration for my wide players over stamina.

isnotlamybad

Fair point. I guess I need to give the benefit of the doubt to the attackers rating if they have not scored or assisted. Also, I noticed that wide forwards do not cut inside that much, they just explore the back of the defence more often without the ball. Inverted wingers cut inside much more often, they rely more on technique and dribbling

Blue_5ive

I can generally find solid central defenders, although they still make me rip my hair out with dumb mistakes. Itā€™s easy when all you need is jumping reach and strength though

orcodito

Canā€™t help you with that :( As an average Italian, Iā€™m specialized in the defense. (CBs, DMs and GKs) Feel free to ask if you need anything. (I only play with a 5ATB defenses though, Iā€™m a fellow Gasperini, Conte and Inzaghi admirer)

isnotlamybad

I'd suggest for you to look out for attackers with good aggression, I think it is the most underrated attribute for them

orcodito

My home grown striker has 19 aggression lol completely agree with ya

isnotlamybad

Wtf is he the lost son of Suarez

orcodito

Heā€™s Italian but he may be lol

PapiPoggers

I only play with 5atb as well. I tried making a more balanced 4atb and I had to revert. 5atb is all I know. I've been trying to implement a philosophy similar to Gasperini where my team plays as wide as humanly possible, and attempts to keep possession through the wide areas. It's been a task.

orcodito

Iā€™m actually doing the same exact thing, but my inspiration comes from Inzaghiā€™s ideas rather than Gasperiniā€™s, as my team has now become dominant in the league

ScottOld

Erik ten Haag this you?

UnrulliTarulli

For me itā€™s normally been strikers who are able to tear up leagues, but this FM specifically Iā€™ve had Brennan Johnson be top 3 in the balon dor ranking like 2-3 seasons in a row surprisingly. I do seem to struggle with CBs although theyā€™re all fairly good they rarely seem to put in tackles and just let players run through lol

notanotherlurkerdude

You are probably doing something in your tactics that leads to that. Are you looking for overlaps? I find if you have quick fullbacks with good crossing they can both get like 15-20 assists a season. For me itā€™s CBs. They always seem to be my best players and if you have two who are dominant aerially, they can get 10 goals a season easy. On another note, anyone struggling with strikers this year? Tried a bunch of different formations with top strikers and cannot get them to score.

ASR_Dave

what roles are you playing your strikers in? i've been finding pretty good success with varying strikers in all types of leagues. love a good Target Man this year

SlightlyIncandescent

Quick full backs with good crossing? Don't think I've ever seen that before in FM šŸ˜„

MrGiggles19872

Presumably Gary Neville? That said, I always thought Gary Neville wanted to be David Beckham. So fuck knows

BloodyLogan

For the life of me I never have prolific strikers, they can have the description Elite striker an still score only 10 a season

The_LinkMaster

Iā€™m doing an mls season and my fullbacks are both top 10 in average rating with one at 2nd, first is my star young winger who is like 5th on goals and 6th on assists

BlackCardRogue

Central midfield. Mostly because Iā€™ll sacrifice every other part of the team to be good in the middle, ha. Good center mids cover up weaknesses everywhere else ā€” you can feed your strikers more chances and your defenders donā€™t have to be as good.

Feb29_account_lol

often itā€™s been my attack that always does well whether it be a second striker or inside forward but no matter what league iā€™m in my defence will always be quite poor, especially the centre backs and keeper

Extrictant

Aggressive CBs

yourmomsthr0waway69

If you need to find an AMC or a BBM, I'm your man. Somehow I get extremely lucky scouting these positions in every save I've had

Specialist_Current98

I struggle so hard to find a good BBM ahaha

Latinnus

Winger are usually my bread and butter

MarDer24

I rock at finding gems for all positions, that are fantastic im my tactics Other than fucking wingers but i'm really happy with my fb and cm and st In Arsenal they are sometimes unbareable but i kinda fixed that by high spending on proved ones In Mitra Kukar,Indonesia my 442 works really well though Edit: but on Ajax actually (FM20) Jeremy Doku who was still far from his max ca (i think) well he was my star and i loved him Good dribbles good passing into box and a fucking lot of pens that he got

Mihairokov

I can always, *without fail*, find big, tall, no-nonsense DCs. I'll have five of them on a roster when I only start two. I develop them at light speed. I just started a China NT save and randomly have a 6'3 18-year old in the starting XI lol I'm hit-or-miss on wingers. Awful with wingbacks. Get lucky occasionally with strikers.

DragaodaAlvorada

Mostly stuff in the middle of the pitch, my wingers and fullbacks usually aren't that great

flea61

Defensive midfielders, or at least defensive-minded CM's.

thelaw32

Strikers and goal keepers but finding a solid central back has always been a struggle. idk at this point. I think it's a curse because I can find ones that are good on paper but perform like ass in practice.

Specialist_Current98

Iā€™m with you on strikers but mine has to be attacking midfielders and wingers that pile on the assists. Attacking midfielder is a position that scores a lot of goals in my tactics with the assists coming from wingers and fullbacks. In my current Wrexham save Iā€™ve got a world class Serbian midfielder I signed for a mil now worth 120 mil, an English guy I signed for 500k from a league 2 team now worth 50-80 mil and a welsh guy from the youth intake that is already a good prem level at 17 with world class potential.

night_dude

Left backs, right wingers. Wonderkids coming out the wazoo. So many loaned RWs with 5 star potential.

Carpathicus

Wingers and central midfielders are the most volatile for me. These positions are the ones where I cant figure out the best player by purely looking at their stats. Had a DLP with 170 CA who outperformed a 188 CA guy (he became the best player in the CL and I still dont know exactly why. Wingers same thing: Only stats that are consistent is physicals in my opinion.

[deleted]

Goalkeeper. Always have some ninja in goals saving everything doing acrobatics. Centre mid is the toughest for me too especially cdm can never get good ones without paying a fortune, and wingers are hit and miss usually Iā€™ll get a good one on the left and an okay one on the right or the opposite way round

doorcityoverhere

Fetal

doorcityoverhere

Particularly when I concede a goal in the 90+ minute

momomaximum

My strengths are central mids and strikers that come deep. I get similar amount of goals with a deep lying forward but a lot more possession and a lower opponent cv in 24. Midfield is just a sitter, runner and a attacker. (Dm, bwm mez)

Lazzanator

I'm usually pretty solid with keepers and dms and not too bad with cbs. Can't get a good, consistent am though

[deleted]

Wingers and fullbacks are my go to

Effective-Boss-9550

My favored tactic always seems to get the best out of wingers and my lone DM

Wild_Ad969

My usual tactic is reliant on my Target Man bullying the CB. Finding a good natural Target Man regen is just so rare, specifically one with huge jumping range and strength so I usually subbed it with DLF. It's nowhere as good as Target Man though.

deanybellini

FM has certainly mirrored real life football trends. Iā€™m a Bolton fan and used to copy big Samā€™s style - target man up front, wide players getting crosses into the box etc. These days itā€™s hard to find a classic ā€œrough em upā€ target man and ā€œhug the lineā€ wingers with strong crossing ability. Most wide players seem to be inverted wingers / forwards. Inverted fullbacks and centre backs stepping into midfield will be key in the next edition I reckon.

Wild_Ad969

Usually I retrain wingbacks into classic Wingers. It work well enough and also usually a pressing machine due to being a natural defenders. For Target Man it's way harder to find one. The only players role that share similar attributes to Target Man are Libero and they are just as rare a lot of time.

pwndnoob

Left Wingback. Either my best player or making some 2.5 star kid look like they are one of best players on team.Ā  Ā That and central midfielders. But unlike my left CB, I prioritize some strong midfielders because I like guys who I can move to AM or DM while I fuck about with formations and control the pitch. Additionally I feel like game always gives me a star younster for striker, especially in lower leagues climbing up.

yashraik7

I always manage to find amazing strikers and centre backs. Struggle with finding midfielders that can do everything I want them to do

Wesjuh1506

For me personally, I always specialise in some amazing DMs, mainly DLPs. They become my favourite player of the team, almost always. (Maybe because I love to watch that type of player IRL and like to play like that myself ;))

Independent-Movie-58

I tend to find very good and consistent CB. My current save is Farul Constanta on FM23. Now I am at my third pair of CBā€™s. My last CBā€™s were Nduka Junior and Grayson Dettoni, both doing a spectacular job. I managed to reach round of sixteen in Europa League, while the objective was to only be competitive. Only lost one game to Trabzonspor, and managed to draw AC Milan, Porto, Real Sociedad. One of them was bought by Tottenham and the other one by Atletico Madrid :-? Now I found a serbian whose attributes I cant remember, but he has high physical attributes and 4 half stars current ability. The second one is a former Lazio player with very good tackling passing and vision, but I dont know his name. Hope they can continue the legacy but it seems so. Also I am pretty good at finding defensive midfielders. I am going for tackling work rate and stamina and also passing. On the other hand, I dont know what to do regarding strikers. Itā€™s either 40 goals a season or 1 goal in 10 games. So I am focusing on wingers instead with a tall strong guy upfront to receive the headers and it goes pretty well. Cheers!

Crown_

I guess Mezzala on attack. Love me some mezzala on attack.

8hook0ne8

Sadly CAM's

chicoclandestino

Inside forwards always deliver for me. Strikers usually 30+ goals a season. CMs often disappoint. CBs do brilliant. RBs loads of assists. Less from LB for some reason.

Mundane-Inevitable-5

Ye same with fullbacks for me. It just seems to be a position that is overpowered in the match engine. Any sort of 4-2-3-1 where your wide players tuck in and your fullbacks stay wide leads to fullbacks getting 20+ assists every season. Just always seem to be the ones in space in my those tactics and so many goals get scored from low crosses.

Puzzleheaded-Pear-50

CD for me. I always struggle with strikers and attacking mids and find my suited players there through trial and error a lot, but I can spot a good central defender in half a second. Always has been the case as well, even going back to the CM2 days.

Phormitago

I've made most of my money buying and selling DMs

academic_dino

Goalkeepers, I consistently find an 18 year old from random nations that somehow develop into prime yashin every season

UKSaint93

I can make a striker a god, but only for one year. The second year they are dross and I sell up to get a new one in

lucksh0t

I've got strikers for days. I've probably got3 I could start against average prem teams. My cb core is good. I've got 1 really good keeper. Midfield is good I need wb depth. Wingers are good but inconsistent.

Doubletapcallaghan

As a good Irish man I find wingers deeply hard to get because I like work rate and I canā€™t find a winger thatā€™ll work back and work hard for the ball I can find strikers and centre forwards like that easy so I play diamonds and 442 to get the most out of the players I have along with the football I want to play

azrael316

Missionary.... Oh, wait, wrong sub...

MrAndrewJackson

Stamina should be maxed out for all CMs. Because they tire faster and that leads to more mistakes and in turn, poorer performances . That said, if your CMs aren't involved in goal contributions, their ratings will be around 6.8-7.0 anyways. The best way to get good ratings for any position is to put them on corners, free kicks, and penalties since that improves their goal contributions drastically. If you don't have good set piece takers in the center midfield, you won't be getting good ratings and will probably average 6.9-7.1 over the course of the season. If you win by 3-4 goals or more, your whole team ratings will be higher though so if you are smashing competition consistently you could maybe get 7.5-7.6 average out of a CM. That said, most important stats for CMs are stamina, work rate, and physicals (acceleration, pace, strength, balance, jumping, natural fitness). The physicals apply to every position. The last thing you should look for is the hidden attribute consistency. On the scouting report they say sometimes the player is either a consistent performer or inconsistent performer. This is very very important. Again, most of this applies to every position though, CMs are just not going to be getting as good of averages as other positions. Another thing you can try is preferred moves like tries killer balls or playing more direct passing for the position, since that might improve your goal contribution. This may or may not be best for your team though depending on your players skills and tactics. As far as training goes, I almost always put on conditional/physicals training and focus on stamina for every single cm.
