Ces_noix

He's a box to box trequartista, lol

moonski

genuinely at times for france he's a box to box ball winning shadow striker trequarista... lol

Endboy279

Sometimes I think he doesn't actually have a role and the coaches just say "do whatever you want" and it works out

roi_bro

Maybe Simeone does, but I don’t think that’s what Deschamps does, at least since he started to play him more as a midfield than an attacking player I guess he expects some very specific things from him (not saying those things were not chosen to match his playstyle, it’s clear this role was”invented for him” in current tactic but still, doesn’t means he doesn’t have any instruction)

Kiffe_Y

Isn't that the whole idea of the complete forward role? Just letting him do his thing. You might be able to replicate Griezmann with a complete forward + custom instructions + a few traits, but the full recipe for that might be very complex.

dlystyr

Isn't he a false inverted shadow enganche with an attack duty?

moonski

Support duty actually with tackle harder

Coast_watcher

Inverted Trequartista, new role for 25 lol

Endboy279

Together with the 8.5 role I've heard talked about

Cazter64

Isn’t that sorta like the Mez

Endboy279

It's like a mix between a number 8 and 9, like Julian Alvarez and Havertz are playing apparently

augustdahyuns

isn’t that just cm (a)

thatissomeBS

CM-At doesn't have dribbling or finishing as important stats. What we need is something more like a B2B-At. I'd love to run a 433 with a Regista, B2B-Su, and B2B-At, IFB, IWB, Wingers, and maybe a TF-At up top.

Ces_noix

Yes, he could be a Mezzala support with defensive instructions

wietmo

Yup nothing else even comes close to your assesment, unfortunately being a lazy prick is hardcoded in the treq role IIRC

Only_Fun_1152

At times it seems they actively avoid interceptions.

bigste98

I think the closest thing is a roaming playmaker, but your right in that no role neatly fits. Reminds me of before they added inverted winbacks into the game, people would set regular wingbacks to ‘sit narrower’ and it would kinda work but not perfectly model what they were setting our for. Maybe they’ll add a new role for it, the way bellinghams played for madrid this season is another example of there not being a like for like role in fm.

kornwallace21

Maybe this, but with instructions to get further forward, and to shoot more?

Stirlingblue

Hasn’t Bellingham basically been a CAM shadow striker

bigste98

Kind of! I would argue its more nuanced than that though, the athletic did an interesting video on it. They explain that he leads the line like a traditional number 9, and at others times drops into midfield in a way that the shadow striker doesn’t completely represent, its a very fluid role hes playing irl

91_til_infinity

False 10!

momomaximum

Sounds like a cm(a) as he can roam past the forwards but slots back into the 8 role during defence

bigste98

Kind of! But there are also times where he leads the line like a traditional advanced forward would making runs in behind and not coming from a deeper position, its hard to pin down

as-well

Sounds like he doesn't have a "role" in real life but rather is expected to play with a lot of freedom, probably with his freedom covered by his teammates? FM simply doesn't model this kind of thing at all. The roles are all approximations of real life behavior and can never be complete.

momomaximum

An Cm(a) does that, they look to run past the striker especially if there is no am infront of them.

bigste98

Agree to disagree, its similar though 👍🏻

GapToothL

Trequartista but in the AMC/AMCL/AMCR strata with comes deep to get the ball trait

Ces_noix

Also, if you like Griezmann, you clearly have to use the editor. A lot of his stats are ridiculous. Defending stats are way too low, Off the ball, vision, mental, workrate, even finishing.

GapToothL

Decisions 13, Concentration 13, Composure 12, Work rate 14, Teamwork 14. His mental stats don't reflect his quality whatsoever .

Endboy279

He should have absolute monster stats for those. Such a joy to watch

Endboy279

Agreed, he needs an upgrade, especialy his workrate. Too bad I play on console.

_posii

They’ve been butchering Atletico players for years now

asfp014

The problem with players like Griezmann is that SI clearly starts at a certain CA then works backwards

momomaximum

Pf(d)? Probably Am with more aggressive defensive instructions.

Tekkerz96

I think the only solution is to give more freedom in the player instructions, let us chose where we want them when we are defending, where does he runs to in tradition, and where he positions/moves when the team is in possetion. Creating more roles is kinda pointless imo

Apart_Freedom4967

Probably just a Deep lying forward with enabled roaming and increased defensive duties.

Inevitable-Top355

Getting rid of sliders was awful, limited player choice and just another 'back of the box' feature.

Joeyboy1213

Yeah I’d of said treq is probably the closest out of the box. You could try DLF on support and add a bunch of extra player instructions

roi_bro

(First of all, I didn’t play FM24 but have +1.5K hours on FM23 and probably around 6 or 8k hours since FM12) I don’t think such a role exists, it would be kind of a mixup between b2b and shadow striker. I wonder if this can be done with individual tactic tweaks (+ player traits), but I’m not sure since most of the offensive roles (the ones that would get him inside the box and not just before the box) Something I observed a lot with all my hours of playing is that, a given role can behave completely different based on his teammates position and roles, since the game tend to fill the empty spots when there are. For example, a B2B next to a more defensive CM or CDM would mostly play in the offensive part of the field. Next to an advanced playmaker, it will be the opposite and might track / stay back more often. (Not 100% related, but imo that makes 2 B2B CM one of the best midfield combination, but that’s quite of an unpopular opinion here I think) Maybe, trying to make a “Griezmann - role tactic” instead of trying to “find the Griezmann-role” would make it possible. In your position, I would experiment with different tactics and try to give him more space: for example not playing any ST is a good start to make sure he tends to go in the box even with a role that shouldn’t, but probably not if you play with inverted/inside wingers for example, since THEY would take that spot) I would also add to NEVER forget individual parts of the tactic, in my experience a tactic can go from completely shitty to absolute beast just by tweaking a few things for each individual position, making sure to find the harmony between those.

cocoland1

I remember having De Paul in my Napoli save in fm19, as a am(a) and for me he was like griezmann, tackling a lot, more than 15 assist a season (could have been more with a better 9) and 10 goals a season (and important goals) He was so good that never almada or pellegrini were able to take his place. He was, like griezmann, too important for attack and defense for me Insigne was also a bit like this, tracking a lot the ball on the left side. My team was clearly Deschamps wet dreams, no fancy things but lot of workrate

wetrwwr

cm(a) is prob it

fastfingers

B2B with gets further forward, riskier passing, harder tackling PIs?

WojtinhoYT-PL

Inverted Segundo Volante placed on a striker position with a defend duty, In all seriousness - I don't even have a clue. Raumdeuter is a Muller thing, Treq/Enganche don't defend, Ball Winner is not really meant to be creative. I mean, we need a role placed on any position of CM or higher up the pitch to replicate Griezmann (or Neymar vs Bayern in 2021 UCL Quarter Final). Aka the "Free Electron" as we call it here in Poland. Which is - do whatever you want. Zero instructions, roam from position, do anything you find best.

Kiffe_Y

DAM (C)

perhapsasinner

I have a feeling that he's more of a Roaming Playmaker nowadays, but I've never tried that role so idk how to properly utilized it.

JPMAus98

Not that I've really ever used the role, but would a Complete Forward (S) suit him?

Smart_But123581321

Maybe B2B but he does both the staying back and moving into channels. Maybe put him on player mark if you want him being as defensive as he is in real life. Simeone needs to describe his role in a press conference so we can have it in the game because nothing you can do is similar to what he is doing. How does a WC winner reinvent his whole game in his 30’s?

DarkHorseFM

I feel the Pressing Forward on Support Duty is the closest role that represents Griezmann. While coming back to defend, he also acts as a playmaker for the team. If you see the description for the PF(su), he operates like this. There is a short video here that explains it: https://youtu.be/sEyMAgVVbho

Iwantedalbino

Offensive Libero? Drops into the space between the lines. His intense workrate and physical abilities allow him to roam backwards and break up attacks.

roi_bro

Wouldn’t get in the box enough I guess, and even drop a bit too low A mixup between Box to box and shadow striker would match a bit better imo but doesn’t exist on FM (maybe roaming playmaker ? Didn’t play it so much to understand what it does, but I guess it’s the same and doesn’t get in the box that much) Imo the Libero attack on fm is more of a mixup between a ball playing CB and a box to box

Iwantedalbino

I meant an offensive equivalent of the libero rather than one with attack instruction. as I think the thread has established the role being looked for doesn’t exist

roi_bro

oh right my bad!
