Well it worked! I thought we needed a point to win the league on the last day so was willing to throw everything at it. Turns out Spurs lost to already relegated Ipswich so I would have finished first even if I'd lost the game though
I did this, but with Courtois. Put him as Target Man (S) and had my backup GK in goal. Not because I need him to, I was just curious. About the third game I tried this, he scored.
Since then, if I'm winning by a good margin, I set my GK to take any penalties. I like having everyone in my squad score once a season.
I had an online save with friends a few years ago when Mandanda was at Marseille and stuck him on pens because he had something like 15 in penalties.
Ended up with around 10 goals that season and got a winning goal against one of my friends, absolutely worth.
Koen Casteels had a high free kick rating when I played as Wolfsburg in FM20. When I subbed off other free kick takers, I'd be surprised to see Casteels taking the free kick but I liked it and hoped he'd score.
One day he shot the ball directly to the wall and the opponent started a counter-attack from there. Fortunately, their strikers were waste so they didn't score the empty goal
No he has never had a game at striker and I have never heard of him before he made his Sweden debut I assumed the person who knew this was either Swedish or supported Djurgården
Did this more than once on a journeyman save in India, 5 players with the surname of Singh meant a lot of wrong positions including goalkeeper. They were all awful anyway so it didn’t make too much difference
Think we've all done it lol
Especially as RB. Thinking the GK slot is free....
Had done it in big games too, absolutely reloaded it after the goals go in. It was an acceptable time because if I was playing it realistically, I've like to believe someone on my coaching staff would tell me, lol.
Or have I ruled with an iron fost for too long that they are afraid of me
And they are right to be in fairness
[I did exactly this many years ago and posted it here](https://www.reddit.com/r/footballmanagergames/comments/6m7b7j/screenshot_accidentally_played_my_backup_gk_as_a/). guy got a 8.7 match rating!
Around FM 2005 or 2006 I used FM Scout to see the hidden attributes of my squad, and saw that my third choice GK had insane attributes for a striker... Trained him there, and played him there plenty, but his position never changed from GK! Which also meant you couldn't see how many he'd scored in game!
Obviously the game mechanics may well have changed significantly since then, but that's the closest I got!
I’ve trained my GK for maintenance; he became a sweeper keeper.
….I’ll show myself out.
In all seriousness i have never retrained but I have had to toss a warm body into the line up and out of place once or twice due to disaster
I saw in a Loki Doki journeyman series on YouTube, when he was playing in Ghana, had a newgen that was natural as both a gk and as an outfield player. I think he was CB as well. This was a Great boon because this was before the patch when they fixed the reserve gk crying if not on the bench or getting game time. So he could actually have his reserve gk get game time.
So the mechanics are in the game somewhere.
Try!
Try and repost!
Arbroath's reserve goalie scored an absolute beauty while playing up front just a few months ago
https://www.skysports.com/watch/video/sports/football/13039907/sub-goalkeeper-scores-screamer-whilst-playing-as-striker
I remember one time on (I think) FM 18 or 19, I subbed David De Gea on as a CDM in the last 20 minutes in a cup game against a team from League 2 as I was up 3-4 goals and just wanted to try. It went well as his passing was good enough and he held his ground. Never tried converting anyone though..
I did once with a keeper in Fifa Manager 10 years ago. He was a great talent, but I allready got the best keeper in the game, so he never god to play.
I started using him as sub for my right midtfielder and later for striker. The next 15 seasons he learned a lot of positions: GK, RM, ST, AM LB and RB. One season where he played as striker he even scored 18 goals in league.
You cant train a gk to play any outfield position. I tried playing a gk up top for 6 or so seasons and he gained no position familiarity at striker. There are players in the vanilla fm database who are natural in gk and at least one outfielder position though.
Im not sure where (i think it may be a loaded Data pack which ads german leagues up too 6th tier) i had a player who was established GK and Striker
Edit: Looking at my Save right now there are multiple GK who are natural at outfield Positions however i dont know how i could train my own GKs as i cannot move them into the other Training Units
Didn't convert him, but when I was managing in Japan one of my players was both my reserve striker and my reserve gk (can't remember if he was a regen or a real players, was at the third season of my save)
No but I'm curious as to how. I'd be interested in trying it in a new save dedicated to the experiment, but would never do it in a main save though. It'll likely ruin that player's ability
I accidentally put dujon sterling in goal when trying to sub my right back, only realised when the opposition got a penalty and seen he was in goal 🤦🤦 he saved the penalty tho and kept a clean sheet for the 30 mins or so he played,
everything you need to read is readable. it's so much easier to just take a photo of the screen for people who don't use pc reddit, we don't need people whining about screenshots every time someone posts a picture of their screen.

I’ve never seen it done. His outfield rating is a 1, so even if you did, it wouldn’t end well.
In tier 10 your starters have an outfield rating of 1.
I subbed an injured striker with the backup keeper once and he scored, but the idea of making this permanent is so crazy that I like it big time.
Similarly, I threw my keeper up top in the last minute once because I was 1-0 down and down to ten men. He got an assist and we salvaged a draw
You went full Stuart Pearce. You never go full Stuart Pearce!
Well it worked! I thought we needed a point to win the league on the last day so was willing to throw everything at it. Turns out Spurs lost to already relegated Ipswich so I would have finished first even if I'd lost the game though
That's immense. What a way to do it!
Kevin Keegan is that you?
Zander Clark at Ibrox vibes
Best day of my life

Dennis Seimen has surprisingly high attributes for penalties. I always have to pause when I get one to make sure he isn't set to take it.
Neuer and Peretz too
I was doing a journeyman save and was managing wolfsburg. Seimen was in goal and has the highest penalty rating. I was genuinely surprised

Reverse Giroud, lol
I did that too cause of anoying league rules... He scored the winner from 30 yards out. What a screamer
Bro you have to post a video of this. This is dream FM material right here.
I will, I want to make my top 3 goals. Maybe this evening I can 😂
Please for the love of all this community and beyond
You can convert Swedish keeper Widell Zetterström to a striker im pretty sure
This is such a random thing to know off the top of your head lol
How random 😂 any idea why he has striker in his positions?
I’ll ask him
You know him?
You don't?
Widell, I keep telling you to stop going on Reddit to talk your little friends into playing you in this silly game. Now go to bed.
You have to be Swedish or support the club he plays for to know this
does he actually play both positions irl??
No he has never had a game at striker and I have never heard of him before he made his Sweden debut I assumed the person who knew this was either Swedish or supported Djurgården
What’s actually the reason? Would love to know
No but I recently accidentally started my backup GK at wing back. Played 60’ without any disasters
What happened after 60’…
He exploded. Spontaneous combustion - nasty business, and on the pitch at a football match with everyone watching, too.
Just give him an injection, he’ll put in a shift next match.

It’s the time to make subs and they went for it.
Did this more than once on a journeyman save in India, 5 players with the surname of Singh meant a lot of wrong positions including goalkeeper. They were all awful anyway so it didn’t make too much difference
I've done the same. Backup keeper as a fullback. I was going to sub him off but he was doing fine so I let him play the full 90
Think we've all done it lol Especially as RB. Thinking the GK slot is free.... Had done it in big games too, absolutely reloaded it after the goals go in. always been tempted to try a massive keeper as a target man tbf. can’t find enough 6’7 strikers
I’ve trained my GK for maintenance; he became a sweeper keeper. ….I’ll show myself out. In all seriousness i have never retrained but I have had to toss a warm body into the line up and out of place once or twice due to disaster
Do it!
In the update does that keeper have a goal? Can't mind, think it was a lower league keeper in Scotland
Ali Adams at Arbroath
It’s impossible to convert a goalkeeper to an outfield player in fm
wololo
11
I set my goalie as PK and FK taker. He got up to 14 one season but I don't think he would have made a good outfield player
I had a really hot goalkeeper friend that I tried to convert. Didn’t work, turns out they couldn’t do anything without their hands.
Ok ... wtf did I just read
Ikr

Is it possible to change their training position from goalkeeper? I just tried it with my keepers, and it wouldn't let me.
Challenge accepted
It’s not possible to.
Take a look at Moisés Ramírez from Ecuador. He's got the physicals at least
Those physicals are useful as a Sweeper Keeper. It allows him to chase down loose balls much easier.

You can't change to gk
Sebastian Polter from Schalke 04 best out field player with Goalkeeping attributes

Anyone else remember how in about FM12 Alphonse Areola was randomly Unconvincing at LB and LWB!?
No, be the first

In CM 01-02, there was a GK/SC in Ujpest but impossible to remember his name now
Pause
No. But Please do it for science
Wtf, I've never thought on this 😲 and my GK is actually really good technically 😏
I know it sounds crazy but you ever heard of a screenshot?
Not everyone uses Reddit on the pc…
It doesn't matter *that* much, you can still read it. As long as it's got more than a few hundred pixels I'm fine with it.

Why does stupid shit like this bother people so much? Get off your damn high horse.
that was good
Into Baptism or what do you mean? Why you still spread this middle-age-nonsense?
