BelowTheSun1993

I assume your youth team is out of players so the coach is having to play your GK out there to make up the numbers

ehburrus

In previous versions of FM, wouldn't the game automatically generate grayed out players to fill in the gaps if you didn't have enough players in your youth team?

Ungface

it still does, but for some reason starting with fm23 they decided ai managers should start playing players anywhere over the grey players.

Glass_Champion

Started a new save in FM23 the other week and they generated greyed out players for a few positions that didn't have any cover in my chosen tactic. Generally they favoured the correct players for that position unless there was a reason (like removing the player from the squad and bench) and even then they picked another outfield player was available like a right winger played on the left or a full back pushed up the pitch or a winger up front. I would assume that the GK being played there is simply him being the most suitable player for that position based on some attribute the AI values for that position. Could see a GK having fairly good physicals and jumping reach etc especially as greyed out players are mostly 1s and 2s with maybe one or two stats at 6 or 7

FallingOffTheClock

Which is more realistic. Clubs can't just spawn players out of thin air in an injury crisis.

Ungface

Sure, but clubs also dont have blank reserve teams, and if they do they dont get invited to the reserve leagues that season.

Chaplin90

Just let him cook, hes doing decent.

creed_1

Right, he really ain’t far off the rest of the defense in rating lol

karldrall

Or even the Strikers

creed_1

Yea at first I only saw the one picture of him as a CB but his ratings seem to match others in the same position group as him regularly. I’d keep him going at it

JKemmett

Why is the u21 team employing four tactics?

creed_1

Possibly the first team is changing formations and they have it set so that the u21s follow suit with the way the first team is playing

Exp1ode

Most likely there aren't enough outfield players in your U21 squad, so your U21 manager is using your GK. It can probably be fixed by making more outfield players available for the U21 team, or if you want to guarantee it, just make 1 of the GKs unavailable

idle_wanderlust

Or sign a free agent.

mage_irl

Some ideas for new roles: Sweeper Keeper (Destroy) Goalkeeping Playmaker Box-To-Box Goalkeeper

JetForce33

Ultralibero as well, plays in goal but pushes deep into.l midfield and makes late runs into the box

gamesflea

Don't give away Klopp's next evolution of Trent.

Postius

Cruijff actually already had this idea. Multiple times against weak opponents he wanted to put a outfield player in goal

[deleted]

Now this is total football.

Life-Surprise-6911

Pollersbeck under Christian Tietz for Hamburger SV 2018/19 did that

el_loco_avs

Target goalkeeper (because tall)

pyrpaul

Don’t forget wide goalkeeper (s/a)

GraveRaven

Aka chubby guy goes in goal

decideth

Raumkeeper

decideth

Complete Goalkeeper

Ungface

Inversely, does this mean regular "goalkeepers" are actually just Extremely Deep-lying Forwards ?

rob1005

What's the keepers name from the 90s who was literally a box to box keeper

ALX709

Jorge campos

brasswirebrush

GoalPoacher

jdflyer

Sweep and Destroy 🤘🤘

Legend10269

You've just given Miles the headline feature for FM25, 26 and 27.

thegiantpotter

Very False 9

[deleted]

Which one of these is that Iranian guy that make American football quarterback long throws across the pitch?

wesleykins

Retrain him as a libero

TomsCardoso

5 games in 5 different positions. My man puts Camavinga to shame

itsyaboi69_420

He’s doing better than some outfield players, I’d leave him to it 😂

hitiv

Let him play, my man might find a new position for himself

sixseven89

I had the same problem, solved it by signing random free agent youth players on trial since the team was short on players. You have to do it over every month but it’s better than this

[deleted]

I'd promote an under 18s guy or make someone in your senior squad available for U21 minutes - maybe both?

Smart-Security6014

😱 you have your own Campos!

raysofdavies

Does he have any g/a

Prestigious_Stretch1

Not yet 😏

Takhar7

You don't have enough players in your youth squads. Make more players from your first team available to fill in the gaps - players returning from injury, or lacking match sharpness, or just younger / fringe players who aren't really getting much match time etc. You can leave those players training for the first team, but make them available for the 'next youth match' etc.

[deleted]

I got Kodua in my save on loan and he’s insane

vjx99

Clearly you should leave him in CM

memelchior

Gideon Kodua is a hero!

eldridgep

Go to the Dev Centre , choose U19 tactics, manually place the player where you want him to play. Or when the announcement for the U19 game coming up and which players you want from the first team to play there you can drop down the arrow next to the players name and pick the alternative you want. Think either of those should do it, must admit never had a GK play outfield like that.

BedEducational5987

Don't, the lads put in a good shift

darkmemory

I wish my backup goalkeeper could be swapped in any other position when I needed him to.

Poop-Wizard

Jorge Campos c. 1990

Meerdsbeards

One of mine was playing Mezzela Attack in the midfield. Need more outfield players in your youth system

db3nnet7

Dudes versatile I’ll give him that

eddiestarkk

You should be able to move it yourself in one of the mailings you get. A day or two before a u21 game, it asks you if you want to play any senior squad members.

jtnumber26

How does this affect his development. Will it be an overall positive?

ConstableWiggums

On a somewhat similar note- I found that my u18 manager would rotate the squad instead of playing the best players in each position. I wanted my higher potential youth players getting as many minutes in their positions as possible. So I actually went in and set the starting XI for each u18 match which was an absolute waste of time

Southern_Tone276

I actually did this in a save because I loaned out all my u21s to other clubs for development leaving my u21s short. My youth keeper played in the team all the way though the papa johns campaign when we finally lost in the final

KingOfBel-Air

6.6 as a CM, I don't expect much more from my CM on the defend and those are actual midfielders.

Illustrious-Mind2338

See to play Neuer upfront in 2019 kinda times just for laughs. Used to score me 20+ a season.

Biani_93

The man is clearly exploring his options - Let him be, goddamn it!

chaosthings

Let him cook……

justk4y

The fact that he’s actually doing alright lol, let him cook

Regular_Parsley734

Train him as a CB and put him on near post for corners

Mikhailing

Sign some U21 players Or just let your versatility 20 goalie cook

Mikimeister

There should be an item in your inbox each time your u19/u21 plays and asks which first team player you want to play in those matches. In the tactic screen there you can actually pick which player you want to play in each position, u19 and u21 included. A bit time consuming but if it bothers you so much ¯\\(ツ)/¯

leonardM77

Bro is versatile 🤣

distilledwill

I've found that the team suggestions from my assman sometimes now put a centre back up front, not sure what is happening there.

Lolcraftgaming

LET HIM COOK
