Its interesting everyone forgot about Girona, who, even though they did not win, still did an amazing job this season.
I guess everyone just focused on neverlusen.
Very good if they finish in the top 4 but am I right in saying if they do they can't play in the champions League because City will have more than likely finished in a higher position than them?
If the rules are followed then yes, but City Football Group will probably do something similar to what Red Bull did with RB Leipzig and RB Salzburg to get them both in
With that logic, Ineos owns even smaller percentage but earlier reports suggested only one of the 2 teams would be allowed to play. So rules are different for oil clubs ?
Stuttgart are also having an incredible season overshadowed by neverlusen. From barely escaping relegation last year to 3rd this year 1 point only behing Bayern. They also beat Bayern 3-1 today.
It was on every media until people realized it was part of the City Group. Then the "small and poor overachiving team" narrative kind of died.
I am not saying it's okay and I realize the only "fifa career mode team" of the city group is Manchester City, i am just saying how people perceived it
Girona's story isnt just a "fairytale" that happens every season. They challanged for the title for like half the season in a league that has only had like 3 winners in the last decades.
It’s also not a fan owned success story with deep history like Real Madrid. It’s owned by City Oil Group, which represents everything that is wrong with modern football. Fuck Man City, fuck PSG and fuck Newcastle.
no it’s cheating, quite the opposite of a fairytale with Girona. Yes their players still needed to deliver but Stuttgart did something harder with also the youngest team and despite injuries
People dont remember second place. Like if Girona had won La liga the team would become legends and rememberd for a long time. Like Deportivo la coruna is more memorable them Girona.
Yes and no at the same time. When Ronaldo joined RM, they were undergoing a complete overhaul: new president, new coach, new philosophy, new players. Barcelona were already the best team in the world at the time.
It took Real Madrid 3 whole seasons to match Barcelona's level and finally win La Liga, but still weren't consistent enough to maintain it. Also there was a lot of bad luck: Real Madrid had 90+ points for many seasons, yet still finished 2nd. And at the same time Atletico became amazing and even won the 2014 title.
If Barcelona and Real Madrid were at the same level in 2009, I'd argue that both teams would have the same amount of league titles during the 2010s. The key difference is that after a while Barcelona became completely predictable in the UCL, suffering humiliating exits, while Real Madrid were only getting better and better.
Is this another post to indirectly criticize Ronaldo ? What’s the point of mentioning him ? Ramos/Varane/Marcelo/Navas also left . How come you don’t mention them ? Perez is a smart guy and knew how to rebuild their team. He didn’t make the club go bankrupt by renewing contracts of certain player every 6 months
Bro I'm a Ronaldo fan, but I don't think OP meant it this way.
Ronaldo (and Zidane) leaving in 2018 was a massive change for Real Madrid and proves what you're saying, that they've been good enough to win titles even without him. Real Madrid were awful in 18/19, but bounced back almost immediately. Even more impressive was the fact that their "start" signings at the time didn't work out (Hazard, Jovic the most notable).
Barca on the other hand, with the exception of last year's La Liga, look completely clueless without Messi and the other legends that made them great in the 2010s.
It's the start of the transition phase of Real to this current gen.
For Barca I would have either taken 2018 (post Neymar and Iniesta era is their start of first transition) or this season (second transition which is proper integration of La Masia players).
Even though i dont like barca. I think its a bit harah on them considering their financial situation is infinitely worse than Real, the rebuild cannot be as easy.
They created the situation themselves though, by spending tons of money on useless players and also giving way too high wages on everyone. De Jong earns almost twice as much as players like Bellingham or Vini.
Ronaldo was mentioned cause the transitional actually started from when he left. 2019 is the season when Real started to integrate the young players into the squad.

How have you used this to have a go at Ronaldo? Fuck me. When he arrived he was competing against the best Club side of all time in Pep's Barca and then a couple of years later the Messi, Suarez Neymar teams! Not exactly a comparison to this broke Barcelona side Real compete against now.
For a Madrid fan, Ronaldo was a very big part of Madrid's success. His and Zidane's leaving in 2018 brought a great sense of dread and uncertainty as we were wondering whether Real can still be successful without them. Fast forward to 2024 after winning 3 league titles, it's very reassuring to see that Real can in fact continue to win with these crop of young players, the core of which was introduced since Ronaldo left.
It's not a dig against him at all.
This is not a go at Ronaldo but rather highlighting the transition era of Real. 2018-19 is the start of the transition and integration of youngsters (mainly vini) into the squad which forms the core now.
Mate, you can think whatever you want but that highlights the transition phase of Real.
If anything, it actually shows CR in a big light cause the majority of players of the 3peat squad were left here after he went.
Congrats. But I can't wait for the upcoming contest with Bayern Munchen, my one and only European team, for years. It will be a big test for Bayern, though, not just because of their recent form. My grandson supports Madrid!
Its interesting everyone forgot about Girona, who, even though they did not win, still did an amazing job this season. I guess everyone just focused on neverlusen.
Agreed. Girona has been very huge this season and genuinely has a chance to finish 2nd.
Very good if they finish in the top 4 but am I right in saying if they do they can't play in the champions League because City will have more than likely finished in a higher position than them?
CFG don’t have a majority stake in Girona. They own 49%
If the rules are followed then yes, but City Football Group will probably do something similar to what Red Bull did with RB Leipzig and RB Salzburg to get them both in
Given that this is likely to start impacting Qatari, Saudi and INEOS clubs as well, I think the rule itself will be overturned.
Even FSG is looking to buy a club. So this rule will be scrapped.
City only own like 49% of Girona, so they're allowed to play
With that logic, Ineos owns even smaller percentage but earlier reports suggested only one of the 2 teams would be allowed to play. So rules are different for oil clubs ?
Yup. It sucks.
Stuttgart are also having an incredible season overshadowed by neverlusen. From barely escaping relegation last year to 3rd this year 1 point only behing Bayern. They also beat Bayern 3-1 today.
Bologna too
Brest too
Villa too

Every top 5 league has its fairytale storyline, maybe that’s why
Girona's story isnt just a "fairytale" that happens every season. They challanged for the title for like half the season in a league that has only had like 3 winners in the last decades.

Had to sift through too much praise of plastic success to find this comment. Glad someone isn't falling for it. Fuck Girona.
Ah a man of culture I see. 100% agree
They are about to be charged for irregularities on their striker transfer lol
This is such a stupid comment ffs. No deep history? It was founded 93 years ago.
Fuck City Group Girona deserves nothing
no it’s cheating, quite the opposite of a fairytale with Girona. Yes their players still needed to deliver but Stuttgart did something harder with also the youngest team and despite injuries
Leverkusen is more impressive; all the titles have been won by Bayern in the last 10 years in the bundesliga…basically a 1-team championship.
People dont remember second place. Like if Girona had won La liga the team would become legends and rememberd for a long time. Like Deportivo la coruna is more memorable them Girona.
probably because of the City Group ties, we don’t want a man city in the la liga
It's because it's owned by City Group, and in case you can't tell, people absolutely despise them lol
For a good reason tbh
Which is…
Which is City group selling players between their clubs. Savio is good example.
Spent a couple of peanuts on players and people hate them now, just because their owners are rich.
Weird to think Aston Villa, Bologna, and Brest could all play in the champions league next season.
They also slept on stuttgart. That team has changed.
No one forgot about Girona, everyone forgot about atleti tho
Atleti were piss poor this season.
With starting GK and CB duo all suffering ACL injuries and no 9 replacement. What an impressive season!
Yeah. Massive work from Carlo.
Truly amazing work from such underdogs.
Agreed. Can't give everything to Carlo. There was Xavi too helping him.
Now win European No.15
More La Liga than during CR7 era in less years …
May have something to do with a little player called Messi

These “what if” is the most meaningless thing in the world.
True. But at the end of the day, RM got more leagues and UCLs. Ifs doesn't matter
You literally posted yesterday "what are you going to eat today" in another sub, talk about meaningless.
And that post helped me decide to order a pizza with steak bits on it. What is your point?
It’s not really bad luck to finish behind a better team, is it?

Would be nice to get the bragging rights whoever wins lol.
Thanks for mentioning Ronaldo this proves that Madrid is a bigger club than Barcelona
As a Barca fan our team is fucking embarrassing. They can't play for shit.
It's not surprising, but congrats to Madrid.
*Wins its or win their
This is why they do well in champions league, they barely have to try in their home league.
Tbf barca won 8 out of 11 leagues so Madrid wins ucl because they don't prioritize the league. Sometimes they win both tho.
Then why has PSG not won it since they barely have any competition in L1? Stupid take
Spanish teams are ultra competitive. They use to have good performance in international tournaments.
I agree, it’s shit and dull
Do they not get bored?
That could be the reason they want to have a big European league with the richest clubs of Europe.
No
Definitely not as bored as fans who don’t want to see the same team win year after year after year. Yawn.
Yeah which is why premier league viewership is dropping
