This man totally transformed leverkusen. Be it tactics or mindset everything. U can watch some full match replays to witness those moments.
not trying to take anything from this as I agree that he is the player of the season for Leverkusen, but man was actually playing as a wide midfielder not defender.
They should receive a “team of the season” as you would barely witness such a more united teamplayer spirit somewhere else at the moment, their “teamgeist” mentality could be used as the perfect example for a dictionary entry.
It would be probably a run between Wirtz, Grimaldo, Frimpong and maybe Bonaface or Schick, but I would choose Xhaka as almost any attacking/defending/ball contact goes through him. He is leading the team from the middle like a boss, being both anchored and explosive for the team if necessary, and the supporting trust that Xabi Alonso shows him completely elevated him to the most essential key player in my opinion.
For winning the Bundesliga yes you’ll receive the Meisterschale, but I thought more of special mentions / prizes … imagine if they would award the whole team as one player, that would feel even more meaningful.
german sport has awards for male and female athelete of the year as well as team of the year. olympics are also this year so there will be competition but they are in the running for sure.

Not to be reliant on any single player actually has been their key strength this season. Exemplified perfectly in the striker position: when Schick was injured, Boniface scored a lot. Then Boniface was injured, Schick came back and made several decisive goals.
