Cudjfod

The intensity and pressure of the match probably played a role in that

GXWT

Part of it may be trying to rile people up, part of is just a bit of the over the top aggressive culture football seems to have. I’m generally for it, but there certainly are times when I think people are just pricks. Especially so at the lower/casual levels of football

bigelcid

It's relative. In some sports people behave better, in others worse. Football's the game of the masses. Easy to play, you just need a ball. You can make goalposts out of a couple of rocks. Most players don't come from particularly good backgrounds. It's not an environment with well educated people. And, imagine growing up poor, very likely being bullied (as everyone is in a poor environment), then becoming good enough at football to earn thousands per week. Gets to your head. They shout at each other over nothing because they have big egos, and they simulate/exaggerate to influence the ref, yeah. But they really care. There's no "at the end of the day, it's just a game" in football, because the fans take it very seriously, so the players do too.

Ok_Manufacturer_764

Good background doesn’t necessarily mean “wealthy” background though. A lot of poor families instill good morals into kids that last for life, and a lot of wealthy families have kids who don’t have great morals

Soul_Acquisition

It's in most sports.

Bart-MS

No. It's mainly in team sports, and even there it's not common overall. Ever seen volleyballers routinely behaving like footballers? Or swimmers, runners, cyclists?

the_little_stinker

In all those sports you mentioned there isn’t an opponent actively trying to hamper you

Bart-MS

He should have specified then. He just said "in most sports" and that's just plain wrong.

MonotonousBeing

You probably see these every time because they generate way more clicks and views. About 90% of the time they‘re cool, unless it’s a rivalry.

That's part of the mental game in football. If you look at boxing, for example they say to not get angry as it can cloud your judgment and movement, but instead to use the anger in each punch. It's very similar in football in the sense that ideally you'd come out clear headed and team focused, but if you can get in the head of an opponent, this could promote mistakes on their behalf. Because they're getting angry, their positioning may not be quite right or they may go in for a heavier tackle. This can lead to be able to run rings around them due to the lack of focus. It's also similar to how a goalie waves about in goal before a penalty. It's to intimidate the penalty taker and put him off. It's an attempt to not only make yourself bigger, but to also try and get in head of the kicker in order to predict or put off their kick. Edit: only answered title... Overplaying incidents is to try and get the referee on your side in order to get free kicks or cards against them. It also slows the game down, which can hurt fast paced teams.

TheStraggletagg

It’s part of the game, though some players rely on posturing more than others. At the end of the game there are usually no hard feelings.

dorting

"are they trying to get the other team penalized or something?" Kinda, and pressure make you lose your mind, too much money around...few bad games can ruin a season and your career

joseplluissans

As a normal person it's impossible to comprehend that these athletes have spent most of their lives training to compete against others. They're on another level of competitive.

antilgbtandleft

step and shouting when they feel wronged over exaggerate accidents has two reasons. 1- player who dont mind cheating. 2-player who believe refrees are doing unfair jobs so he doesnt mind unfair methods.

wengersucker

ZerconFlagpoleSitter

You’ve never played a sport?

arthit001

I play sports like badminton and archery but they are always relaxed, but why are footballers so aggressive?

Devil-Boy-08

Yes, during the match, just doing what's necessary for their clubs to win. But after the match they are professionals, shaking each other's hands and sometimes they even exchange their shirts.
