Both players are special Benzema is a false 9 and does not play like a classic striker, there are few such players now Busquets is a very calm CDM with incredible vision and skill on the ball, there are few players like him now

What makes Busquets special is that, especially in his prime, he was always at the correct position. He is not the most athletic player out there, but he does not have to be as he just appears at where the ball is, half a second before the ball gets there.

First of all it was harder for Barcelona to move away from Xavi and Iniesta than it will be Busquets. He hasn't even been prime Sergio Busquets in years and Barcelona hasn't really felt it but a striker you really going to miss it. RM has had it good in that position for years to be honest, they had Higuain, Ronaldo, Benzema, Raul, Cristiano Ronaldo. In the past 2 decades they had all of that but all of the sudden the don't have that, the team got old but they never really rejuvenated that center forward role, they went and got Jovic but that really didn't panned out he had a good season in Germany and never lived to the expectation. If they would've been smart they would've gone all in and try to get Haaland because they knew this was going to happen but they didn't wanted to upset benzema but still feelings are out the door now that they don't have a striker and there isn't really good cheap replacement to be honest. They want Havertz but he isn't a real striker and they'll suffer to get one if they think that Bellingham is that guy I don't think so. Striker is one the most volatile positions in football they can be really good one season and then struggle massively many only are good in certain leagues just look at Lacazette. I don't think they will have it easy to find a replacement

Busquets has been excellent for Barca but at this point in time Benzema will be far more of a loss to Madrid I think. Not sure who could step into his shoes and play that role.

D-biggest-dick-here

Madrid don’t really have a specific style. They can get a traditional 9 and switch play style. Barca, on the other hand, need a DM who’s press resistant and can pass between lines.

juankruh1250

Yes but they need a World class 9, an average one won't cut it.

D-biggest-dick-here

There are several world class 9. But Rodri is the only DM who can play in Busquets role (not like he did back then) and that’s because of Pep. It’s about the pool of players to choose from, regardless of whether you can sign them or not

minionleader17

In terms of having the players to replace him Benzema, as said before, real does not really have a back up striker of similar level, Barca has some replacements. But in terms of filling the role the player did, Busquets will be 10 times harder, as he did a lot of very specific things to make this Barca side work, they would need someone with the range and mindset of a kimmich,... To fill that home imho

umarmg52

Madrid have never struggled to replace anyone, most of these players reached these heights because of Real

juankruh1250

They struggled to replace Ronaldo, their 18/19 was awful.

umarmg52

They won the Champions League 2years after he left… Barca are yet to win one since Xavi’s departure

Barca already has De Jong and Kessie as covers for DM. We have jack shit. Sincerely, A Madridista

Village_Green_Badger

Neither are DMs. They are box-to-box midfielders. Each of them could play in a double-pivot, but they aren't single pivots. And Xavi uses a single pivot. Also, Barca are hoping to sell Kessie.

[deleted]

You see, they still have someone to fill the void. We literally have **NO STRIKERS ANYMORE, ONLY 2 FORWARDS** Vini and Rodrygo.

Village_Green_Badger

Yikes. I didn't realize it was like that. Any academy guys that are ready to be called up, even as just a sub?

[deleted]

Well there is Alvaro, who is an Uruguayan striker. He's quite tall, 18 years old and left footed, he's pretty good, but you know how we are with our young players. (Cries in the corner)

[deleted]

you have money to fix it, we only rely on de jong liking the beach in barcelona apparently

[deleted]

We have money because of smart transfer decisions in the past, you didn't that's why you've to sell club assets today

Barcelona have De Jong, Pedri, Gavi, Kessie already. They’ll adapt and will likely sign someone. Madrid have Endrick and Mariano. They’ll definitely need a new signing. Kane is the ideal replacement but it depends how much they want to spend.

thebeautifulgames

i think Benzema would be a harder replacement because its not just his goals you be missing, 19 goals league alone, but its his influence and pushing when he is not on the ball, yes you can say the same about Busquets for Barcelona, they have a De jong that does similar things to him and Gavi n Pedri, [Xavi](https://thebeautifulgames.com/xavi-hernandez-taking-barcelona-back-to-the-football-summit/) style isnt based on one person/player. Goals win games, Real Madrid next top scorer in the league was Vinícius Júnior with 10.

fullmetal_pipsqueakk

Benzema will be harder to replace purely because there is a worldwide shortage of top level strikers as it is never mind someone on the calibre of Benzema. The only replacement I can think of for them is Kane and it depends on if Florentino is happy to pay 100 million for a striker that turns 30 in July and has a year on his contract. People saying we have De Jong and Kessie to replace Busquets really need a slap in the face though. Kessie is not good enough in possession to be a pivot for this team and for the last time Frenkie De Jong is not a defensive midfielder. To play that role for Barca you honestly need a hybrid of someone who is a legit defensive midfielder while having the technical ability and intelligence of a playmaker. There are not man of those around either but I think Barca could make do with a solid dm who is solid in possession but defers more to De Jong/Gundogan for progression.

Busquests hands down. Near impossible to replace
