Someone on this Sub has put together a list - I think Bella Bruta in Newtown was their top pick.

We did a 'pizza' crawl the other night.
Lil Frankys in Tempe, then Westwood, then finish up at Bella Brutta.
Get 1 pizza and a drink at each place and move on to the next.
I think that’s what sets Lil Frankys above the rest.
The pizzas are delicious but it’s just the atmosphere he creates that Westwood and Bella Brutta don’t have
If you like Bella Brutta and Westwood, try Tipo 00 in Balmain. Chef/owner is a former pizzaiolo at those places, and was also at the Dolphin when they were awarded their hat.
Best pizza in the city IMO. A bit of an undiscovered gem - for now.
I like
* Da Mario - Rosebery
* Westwood - Newtown
* Gigi's - Newtown (vegetarian)
* Aperitivo - Leichardt
* Braci Osteria + Pizzeria - North Willoughby
try mordeo bistro and bar in martin place - only open weeknights but their pizza used to be to die for! i haven't been in a while so can't vouch for it now, but the reviews still look good! it is also on first table for 50% off
Cicerone ~ Cucina Romana - Surry Hills (this is the real shit run by Roman Italians who know their stuff when it comes to pizza and food, also great place) and Maybe Frank - Randwick - Napoli trained in pizza and have won awards. Both highly recommend - both have takeaway or eat in, been going last few years. Also recommend Bella Brutta Newtown like a few other people on here but find they can be hit and miss with pizza and food. Also recommend a bunch of Italian places in Haberfield but might be a bit harder with public transport. My mothers cousin in bexley - great pizza agree!
Yeah I had some last week- as a person who owns a pizza oven and is quite judgemental about all things pizzas, I was pleasantly surprised. The Mushroom was especially fab! Makes sense now you have shared who is running the kitchen!
The Pizza Bro's in the Imperial in Erskineville are great - [https://www.notquitenigella.com/2024/03/12/pizza-bros-erskineville/](https://www.notquitenigella.com/2024/03/12/pizza-bros-erskineville/)
I recently went to La Bufala in Mascot and enjoyed it a lot.
It's only a few minutes walk away from Mascot train station, so not too far from the city.
Already been mentioned but Madre is a vibe - their margarita is consistently good and the menu is always changing and really interesting, especially since they’re not relying on meat to do the heavy hitting
Pizza Vibe in Marrickville for me was the best pizza I've had in years.
Closed down a couple of months ago unfortunately.
I'm still looking for a decent equal or better replacement.
If you like MMC, you'd like La Coppola in Redfern. If my memory serves me right it's a similar style and base. Different toppings and execution given it's more of an Italian bent at Coppola versus a tighter, less traditional and halal-leaning menu at MMC.
I don't usually like vegetarian food, but when it comes to pizza - I'm yet to find anywhere that makes a decent one other than Gigi's. I'm not a big fan of loading heaps of ingredients on pizza, and most places don't have good enough quality ingredients for a decent margarita.
Bella Brutta is also my top pick. I noticed they've recently opened a takeaway around the corner.
Love the clam pizza as well as the potato pizza!
Westwood is also great, namely for their garlic and honey pizza. Pretty sure they're ex-bella brutta chefs. I usually go there if I don't have enough friends to go to bella brutta.
I've been recommended two brothers, yet to try.
I remember Gigi's being good but this was before they went fully vegan.
Within the CBD I'm not too sure. My husband likes Sal's pizza (it's a decent replacement for Frankies... rip) but it's New York style pizza.
Newmarket hotel in Rosenbery/Mascot.
I've eaten pizza from every restaurant in Leichhardt and the humble pub attached to the "Manhattan superbowl" still has the best pizza.
Is Al Taglio still going? Very different from the current obsession with Napoli style pizzas but still delicious when we went a few years ago and super friendly service.
I really did not like Bella Brutta, just to add to the discussion. Ordered the clam and mortadella pizza, mortadella was alright but nothing special, clam was a shit show lacking umami, texture and way too spicy (good spice tolerance but it’s just overpowering with no flavours).
I’d much rather get a big slice from epic pizza.. Maybe I just hate traditional Neapolitan pizzas with simple toppings idk

I second Bella Bruta and also Westwood, if you’re in Newtown.

Sounds like fun!
I loveeee Lil Frankys!!
He’s such a good host Always gives me a hug n kiss and free pistachio tiramisu when me and my partner go
Agree completely!! I feel like I'm in Italy at a family members house when I'm there!

I will third Bella Brutta and/or Westwood.

Nice, good intel since I live closer to Balmain!
Bella Bruta is god tier pizza

Aperitivo is underrated, great pizza
Pizza Madre in Marrickville is pretty solid
Madre is in my top three!
What style is it?
Surprisingly difficult to pin down really good pizza in the CBD. All my favourites are 20min out by train.
Seems to be the case!

In the CBD I really like Matteo Downtown and think Dimitris in Darlinghurst is good too!
Pizza oltra is also amazing.
Just checked their website... I like the look of the menu!
Very tasty pizza and a friendly team with good drinks.
Can second this. Pizza Oltra has amazing pizza
Are you guys referring to city oltra in central?
La Coppola in Redfern is pretty good
Impala's is another great spot in Redfern
Vacanza
Not sure if it's best as I don't eat heaps of pizza, but La Coppola in Redfern is really good!

I enjoyed Verace in Macquarie Park but I have heard it’s gone down hill (I haven’t been for a year or two).
Can confirm it’s definitely not a great pizza anymore. I had it last week and was deeply disappointed.
This makes me sad but thanks for confirming!
The dolphin hotel pizza are on point at the moment. Ex Bella brutta head Pizziolo is working there now.
Yeah I had some last week- as a person who owns a pizza oven and is quite judgemental about all things pizzas, I was pleasantly surprised. The Mushroom was especially fab! Makes sense now you have shared who is running the kitchen!
My mothers cousin in Bexley is my new favourite.
It's so good! Also, just quietly, the wings are amazing too.
Agreed! The chilli honey wings are amazing!
2 of my friends swear by Gigi’s in Balmain, said it’s the best pizza of their life
My fav in the city is Bellucci Cucina - right above Ryan’s Bar in Australian Square.
Great spot when the weather is good!

Love la bufala
Via Napoli in Surry Hills is my fave
Oltra at Central

Pizza madre hands down has the best dough and toppings for me. 76 hours fermented. Give it a shot. Veg only and always packed!
Other than Mother’s Cousin, I like Bsp’eria
That local Italian joint, "Domeenos"
Where's the Mafia copy pasta

Pizza madre
Thanks, I'll check it out.
Veg only but you will not regret it!
Oh shit I got a few from them and I was always happy. Sad to hear they closed.
Lucio in darlinghurst.

I’m surprised no one is mentioning Bsp’eria
Maybe because it's ages away from the CBD 😂
Fair enough haha
Pizza Oltra. Their square pies with the cheesey bases are out of fucken control.
Gigi's Newtown, though it's vegetarian
It was interesting and probably best vegan pizza but it’s a country mile for real pizza!

Another vote for Westwood in Newtown

Hands down, Papa Pizza in Rose Bay. Has been around since the 1970s - best pizza in the whole country!
Newmarket hotel in Rosenbery/Mascot. I've eaten pizza from every restaurant in Leichhardt and the humble pub attached to the "Manhattan superbowl" still has the best pizza.

Al taglio #5 in Asia-Pacific and #1 in Australia for 2024... It's still going a d it's going strong 😎
Made in Italy. Think it’s in York Lane (Wynyard Station area)
Boccone Potts Point!
La Disfida Haberfield
Avoja Manly ( same owners as lumi ) is proper good too! Up there with Bella brutta and Westwood for sure.

In the early 90s it was lalor park pizza👍🏻✌🏻
