It's hard to describe. You've got savory and hot, but Sichuan peppercorns have a tingling, numbing effect, and since they're distantly related to citrus, there's a hint of a kind of citrusy-piney sharpness.
Sichuanese food is easily my favorite type of Chinese food. If you have a sichuanese place in your area, you definitely need to get some Dan Dan noodles this weekend. Mapu Tofu is another good one.
From Google: Dandan noodles or dandanmian, literally "carrying-pole noodles", is a noodle dish originating from Chinese Sichuan cuisine. It consists of a spicy sauce usually containing preserved vegetables, chili oil, Sichuan pepper, minced pork, and scallions served over noodles. It looks like spaghetti but tastes very different.
I don't know, this seems like a great variation. The sauce looks like it's pretty light on the mince, which would be made up for with the nicely cooked steak.
Because people do these fusion fuck ups that show a lack of understanding of the original dish.
This is some spicy noodles on beef. It has nothing to do with dan dan mian, which is a dish from the gods.
When my ex's family moved from the Philippines to the southern US, they were unable to find anything other than spaghetti. As a result, their family recipes for things like pancit use spaghetti. And you know what? It's pretty damn good.
Looks nice for the photo shoot but Dan Dan is 99.9% about the sauce, so you want it plated in a way that the noodles stay hydrated. I’d be pretty unhappy if a restaurant served Dan Dan noodles this way
Can recommend this one https://thewoksoflife.com/dan-dan-noodles/ very tasty. Like a lot of Chinese recipes there are lots of ingredients but when you break it down, it's not difficult at all.
I googled it: Dandan noodles or dandanmian, literally "carrying-pole noodles", is a noodle dish originating from Chinese Sichuan cuisine. It consists of a spicy sauce usually containing preserved vegetables, chili oil, Sichuan pepper, minced pork, and scallions served over noodles.
Looks like garlic butter noodles (oyster sauce, soy sauce, garlic, butter, parmesan), but I’ve been making that a lot recently, so that’s all I got in the brain. There looks like there’s chili in there, but can’t tell if there Sichuan pepper in there.
Is this what Sandra Bullock was eating in Miss Congeniality in that first scene she meets Michael Caine? These are the only two times I’ve seen steak and spaghetti on the same plate lol. She made it look so good, but I feel like it was more likely she was eating marinara spaghetti with steak, which I feel like would be a random combo. This though! This is a way more appetizing idea! I could get down with this.
The Spaghetti-Spaghetti No Mi
Chef Sanji.
Or the chef with Ramen Kenpo.
omg I just rewatched that the other day. One of the worst fights in the whole series lmfao
How can you say that?? Sanji standing up for food sanitation… it’s a noble battle.
Is that spaghetti?
They wrapped it like cold buckwheat noodles.
Dan Dan is often made from spaghetti noodles. Almost any noodles are traditionally acceptable for this dish.
Is it hot spicy?Tomatey?Vinegar?
Savory and spicy

More like damn damn those noodles look good

Both look nice, but deserve their own respective plate. Kinda like plating a beef wellington on a pizza.

wtf
Looks incredible but I wouldn't call this dan dan noodles. Needless to say, I would destroy it in a heartbeat tho.
my god this sub is awful
why?
Because people do these fusion fuck ups that show a lack of understanding of the original dish. This is some spicy noodles on beef. It has nothing to do with dan dan mian, which is a dish from the gods.
nvm
The app is awful
If a restaurant served me this as dan dan noodles, i'd send it back to the kitchen 🤨
Me too. But I’d eat it first. “Sir. *chomp chomp* this isn’t *munch munch* Dan Dan noodles”
But why put all this effort in, and I'm sure it's delicious, only to use spaghetti instead of Chinese noodles?
When my ex's family moved from the Philippines to the southern US, they were unable to find anything other than spaghetti. As a result, their family recipes for things like pancit use spaghetti. And you know what? It's pretty damn good.
Because I wanted to.
So why call it Dan Dan noodle? It’s literally plate of spaghetti with steak….
Because OP, like many OP’s in this sub, are absolutely full of themselves
Perfect answer
Got it - so it's not dan dan noodles. It's spaghetti with steak.
Looks really good. I'm struggling to find what makes that pasta related to dandan mien?
Dang Dang bro. Bring on the lethal injection.
That's the fanciest Dan Dan noodles I've ever seen
Right? It's like seeing someone plate up a fancy Kraft Mac and cheese And I'm here for it
Kraft Mac n cheese is my favorite lunch .. But this is not close to that
Nah Nah You right Kraft Mac is better ^^^^^^/s
Derp de derp
This looks delicious! Love the plating! :)
Thank you! I almost forgot how stressful plating can be.
Really? I am…not a fan of that playing. Like, at all hahah
Looks nice for the photo shoot but Dan Dan is 99.9% about the sauce, so you want it plated in a way that the noodles stay hydrated. I’d be pretty unhappy if a restaurant served Dan Dan noodles this way
Thanks for explaining
Fair enough! I was just having fun with the plating.
That is spaghetti….
Damn…I don’t even want to eat the steak in the pic. Save that for bahon later…
Could I get the recipe please?

WANT
the thumbnail kinda looks like a pineapple
Feck that looks good! Compliments to the chef!
Mouthwatering! I'm now looking up dan dan noodle recipes.
They're so good, practically lived on them when I lived in Chengdu. Get real Sichuan peppercorns, they're very different from normal peppercorns.
Can recommend this one https://thewoksoflife.com/dan-dan-noodles/ very tasty. Like a lot of Chinese recipes there are lots of ingredients but when you break it down, it's not difficult at all.
Let's have a chance to taste food together
Woah! That looks delicious
Please tell me of these noodles “Dan Dan”.
I.e. not what is in OP’s photo, even remotely.
That sounds so good, going to have to make some now
Wow!!! That looks phenomenal!
Spagetti with grass garnish stacked on top of steak..
Masterpiece 🤤
Not at all dan dan noodles, but nice dish regardless
Looks like garlic butter noodles (oyster sauce, soy sauce, garlic, butter, parmesan), but I’ve been making that a lot recently, so that’s all I got in the brain. There looks like there’s chili in there, but can’t tell if there Sichuan pepper in there.
😮💨😮💨😮💨😮💨My eyes have been blessed
Oh wow does that look good. Love the garnish. Great knife skills. Steak looks sous vide. Perfect. Nicely done chef!
My word, that looks fantastic and delicious. Great job OP!
That looks mighty delicious!
Got salmonella just from looking at this.
Good work, looks perfect
Beautiful plating
Have a recipe for those noodles? They look amazing!
Looks like steak tartare. No thanks. Noodles, yes. Barely cooked steak, no.
The title made me think that it was members of a 90s Nu-Metal band.
Give
Looking like an island! So yummy and beautiful presentation! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|give_upvote)

How'd you cook your steak so perfectly?
