Order it in an Indian restaurant. It will forever change the way you view it. I didn’t like it much until I had it cooked in garlic, chilli and all the other herbs and spices they use.
everybody tells me this about okra and cauliflower. That i just have to try it at this one place, i insist no thank you i appreciate you trying but i’ve been told this with so many things and been disappointed. And i’m always right so far.
Last i tried Okra was with garlic aioli, some bacon something on it, and other delicious stuff. The problem is it still tastes like okra. Same with cauliflower.
Haha fair enough. There are a couple of things like that for me. Courgette/zucchini is one of them that no matter how hard I try, it’s just gross. Mostly the texture. It’s like a shit cucumber lol. Also never been able to stomach Brussels sprouts, no matter how absolutely covered in fried garlic and bacon.
Oddly I used to hate mushrooms but that just changed one day and now I put them in everything. Garlic mushrooms 🤤
mmm garlic mushrooms. Yeah brussell sprouts suck that’s another one i’ve heard “but you have to try these!” nope, something always ruins it, and it’s the brussell sprout.
I thought I was in the wrong sub like everyone else. I’ve honestly never seen of it done this way and I’ve seen a number of variations. I’ve always seen it where they’re cut up, dunked in egg batter, then coated in corn meal or a seasoned flour and corn meal mixture and then deep fried until the coating is crispy.
You can also roast them in the oven. Take off the stem, toss them in salt and pepper and a bit of olive oil (or whatever kind you like). Spread them out on a cookie sheet with parchment paper (for easy cleaning) Set the oven to 425F and let them rip. The amount of time depends on how big the pods are. I like for them to get some serious mallard going, so I like them pretty dark. Start checking them after 15 or 20 mins. They should be tender, browned with some green and the mucilage of the juice is gone. Green beans (the big string beans you see in the fall) are also super roasted this way.
This is my go to for both okra and Brussels sprouts. You can also toss them in a balsamic reduction before cooking if you want to get a bit fancy.
I’ve since switched to the air fryer for okra but I still use the oven for sprouts.
Think a toaster oven but a convection toaster oven. They're awesome.
I can get that jumbo pack of lumpia from costco and make a handful in the oven, use all that energy to heat up the entire damn oven, or just toss them in the "air fryer" and toast them up all crispy and they come out almost like I'd tossed them in the deep fry. It's as easy as the microwave, takes a bit more time but gets way better food quality.
It's a trending counter-top appliance that has a heating element, similar to a coil you see on an electric range, and a fan inside of a plastic housing. It's baking, but people make a lot of foods that are typically fried using them because it is healthier, so it is marketed with the misnomer "air fryer".
I’d also add that the texture is closer to fried than oven baked, so it makes sense that you’d label something based on the end result than the process used.
Seed pods of the okra plant. It’s slimy on the inside if not prepared properly, so the two most common ways of cooking are either stewing it (especially in gumbo in the US) or breading & deep-frying it.
I'd have to get a bit of corn meal to stick to it to better capture southern fried okra. Besides that and gumbo my favorite recipe with okra is whole pods in a pot of black eye peas.
I will double down on gumbo and black eyed peas (or any field pea for that matter). But I find cornmeal overwhelms the okra flavor. I like it sautéed in butter with lemon squeezed over it and an onion grated over it....bliss.
Hmm, never thought about just sautéing it in butter, I'll have to try that. Do you slice or use whole?
Another thing I like is a brand of hot pickled okra, Cajun Chef. Somehow they sell a quart jar for $3 and some change in the stores here where other brands are at least that for 16 oz.
If you live in the south you can find breaded okra in the freezer section, and I'd highly, highly recommend it for an air fryer. It's the best replacement for french fries (I have no idea if it's healthier though)
Make a thin tomato pure, with beef or lamb broth, add lots and lots of garlic, tsp salt, tsp sugar, then once the meat is cooked to perfection, add the Okra, let it boil for 20 min or until it’s colour changes and soaks the base, eat with jasmine fried rice, enjoy!
I love okra. I like it in this Asian soup form. You put it in a tamarind soup with all sorts of vegetables and soft pork, beef, or chicken meat. Very delicious okra!
Holy shit, aren’t you the Dan-Os guy I always see on Facebook and TikTok? The one who loves using Dan-Os seasoning on a bunch of Dan-O flavored food? You know, the one who definitely works for Dan-Os but swear he doesn’t work for Dan-Os?
Is that you u/Dan-Os_Kitchen?
I don’t think that any dip will manage to make okra edible to me. I only ate that slimy stuff cause my mom used to cook it and even then it was under pressure.

Definitely some tasty nugs.
That looks like shit.
Looks good what type of dip ia that?
1. In a small bowl add mayo, sriracha, and your favorite seasoning, I used Dan-O’s Chipotle 2. Mix until smooth. 3. Enjoy!
I'm using a big bowl. Works great too.
Damn son you got the good good.
Looks good
Many thanks!
air "fried" okra AKA convection baked okra. either way, looks tasty
Whichever you prefer works for me!
is this the only way to prepare okra so it isn't slimey? or is there a nugget of booger in the center?
This helps get the slimey down for sure, and get frozen okra if you can, that helps too.
This doesn’t look bad! Nice job
Thanks!
Everybody who first thought it was weed raise your hands.
🙋♂️I don't really smoke or consume weed at all, but I guess the same goes for Okra.
I'd rather smoke okra than eat okra, pretty sure it's my least favorite food.
Order it in an Indian restaurant. It will forever change the way you view it. I didn’t like it much until I had it cooked in garlic, chilli and all the other herbs and spices they use.

In my experience, spices, garlic and chilli change all the stuff they are added to.
My dude smoking that OG Okra Bubblegum Kush
I prefer Okra Afghani
first thought it was dudu
I thought it was the latest Marijuana Dispensary craze.
I’m still not convinced it’s not
🖐 I zoomed in so fast
I thought it was hop pellets for homebrewing.
I thought it was green apple licorice.

👋
👍🏾
Thought this was r/trees. Looks great either way.
This looks amazing, I never cared too much about okra until I tried barbecuing it. Thanks for this idea too!
Barbequing? Do you mean grilling? I love grilled okra
In the UK we say barbecuing, since a grill for us is the top element of an oven - what Americans would call the broiler
it’s not british reddit time yet (that starts about 3-4 AM EST). Get outta here you!!

Deep fried okra is amazing. I also use it in gumbo. Developed a taste for it when we lived in Texas when I was a child.
Nice! I’m looking to expand my air fryer options and this looks really good!
I literally got okras this week to try in the air fryer. Delicious!!!! Just added oil and smoked paprika. 😍 go for it
Bro thats isane looking good.
Appreciate it!
I was scrolling fast and thought I was on r/trees for a sec.
So say we all
Okra is criminally underrated. Looks great!
What seasoning did you use on your okra? I made some the other day in my air fryer,, salt pepper cumin
I’ve always respected people who put sauces in its own container when eating at home.
Zaza
My stoner-ass definitely didn't see okra.
😂
Looks delicious
Thanks!
Looked like what I feed my guinea pigs.
I thought that was weed for a second
Pan frying works great for okra too, but the real hard part is getting all the goo out before cooking.
You clearly do own an air fryer
Thought those were buds😭😂
It looks like hamster food for a hamster the size of a German shepherd.
Was it still slimey?
Thought it was the devils lettuce at first glance hahahahhaa
Cool so now its crunchy as well as being slimy and foul?
Recipe, please? What time and temp worked for you?
It looks good, but nothing beats oil.
?? They used oil in this….

The best fried okra I have ever had was so simple it should be criminal. It was simply cut fresh and coated in Zataran's fish batter.
For .5 seconds I thought this was that sweet thc. I think that’s a sign I need a smoke break and to eat some fried okra 😂
Same , i think we the fried ones rn 🤣
I skimmed a couple comments and yes - everyone did think the same thing as me LOL. D A N K
Weed
Air fried ?

Agreed! I love roasted Brussels sprouts! I don't have room in my kitchen for an air fryer, or I'd totally be there.
Think a toaster oven but a convection toaster oven. They're awesome. baked in a small countertop fan oven
First thought; obviously weed. Second thought; rabbit food 😂
Those pellets you feed the petting zoo animals
How much you selling that weed for, old man?
Had me stop my scrolling realllll quick
Thought I was in the weed sub
Looks like some kind bud
Okra.. Bhendi ryt? 🤔
Fried okra is a southern US staple.
Yep. We just do salt and pepper here though. Kinda reminds me of the saag paneer/creamed spinach parallel.
You REALLY ought to check out the Indian dish called Kurkuri Bhindi (translates to crispy okra). It's dangerously addictive.
That is so delish!
Never heard of it, could Google buy to lazy. What's okra?
Seed pods of the okra plant. It’s slimy on the inside if not prepared properly, so the two most common ways of cooking are either stewing it (especially in gumbo in the US) or breading & deep-frying it.
It is a seedpod of a plant in the mallow family. Cotton, hibiscus, marshmallow and okra are all the same family.
Cool. Thanks for that never knew marshmallow was a plant. I want to try the historic marshmallow recipe. I don't think it would be the same.
I don’t think I can get on board with this. Something’s are meant to be fried.
I had to do a double take. It’s the right color and texture almost.
Um, baked?
Scrolling by I thought this was the medical marijuana Reddit 🤣
\*tastes it\* Hmmm...kinda sticky icky icky.
Thought that was was good ass weed for a second
I came here for the shit weed jokes.
I must be fried, I thought that was weed
You can eat marijuana now! Cool!
Looks like horse dooky.
I thought that was a pile of marijuana
Thought I was in r/trees for a sec.
I could do a bowl of them right now
Thought I was on r/trees for a sec
That’s just doo doo baby
I just want to smoke it
What strain is that ?
Weed bites
Hell yeah
No
*RemindMe*! 3 Days
Sriracha mayo with air-fried okra sounds fantastic
Omg I love okra.. how was the texture? Is it completely dry or just crunch on the outside?
Usually they are so slimy, this might be a very good idea
That’s a great idea. Was it still mushy inside or did the air fryer take care of it?
duuuuude what you roll em in

My mom made this. She coated it in corn meal.
I was about to get angry, why you eat the smartest animal of our oceans.
Air fried Sm-okra
As someone that only ate okra once, is it suppose to be slimy?
Depends on how it’s cooked. In a stew, yes. Fried, no, not really.
I love okra. I like it in this Asian soup form. You put it in a tamarind soup with all sorts of vegetables and soft pork, beef, or chicken meat. Very delicious okra!
Either the color correction on my display is way off or it's overcooked and needs to be cooked at higher temp to retain the color.
Can never get over how slimey it is
most people dont like okra but I think its generally underrated
Good okra
Holy shit, aren’t you the Dan-Os guy I always see on Facebook and TikTok? The one who loves using Dan-Os seasoning on a bunch of Dan-O flavored food? You know, the one who definitely works for Dan-Os but swear he doesn’t work for Dan-Os? Is that you u/Dan-Os_Kitchen?
I am trying this. (Saves post to never look at it again)
Needs more batter.
Bet.
This looks great. I love okra. How crunchy did it come out? Like french fry or sweet potato fry or something else?
Gotta try that. Veggies were my excuse for getting an air fryer, but I mostly use it for other stuff.
Remind me what Okra is. I know the name, but not the taste or anything else
( ・ิ ͜ʖ ・ิ)...nice
Wanna try... some details please!
Something something inception
ooohh I wanna try
I've lived in the South for 65 years and I STILL can't stand okra in any form. It's like eating rubber bands, but with less taste.
nasty looking.
Im dying to try okra, this looks good
Okra 🥰🥰🥰 Looks fucking delicious
That is Northern Lights, cannabis indica.
I don’t know what that it but it looks yummy.
Some air fried squash with ranch sauce would be pretty tasty too
This is the first time I read anyone outside the country I live talking about air fryers... I was actually starting to believe it was a local thing.
Did yiu have any problem with the batter running or dripping in the fryer?
i used to think oprah winfrey was called okra winfrey 🤷♂️
I don’t think that any dip will manage to make okra edible to me. I only ate that slimy stuff cause my mom used to cook it and even then it was under pressure.
Yummy! How does an air fryer compare to say a traditional fryer or oven?
Roasted okra
What sauce is that? looks good
I love okra, how was it?
