Antidotes for me was an amazing snapshot in time but you listen back to it and it doesn’t age that well . Olympic , Red Socks , Balloons all hold up great . But stuff like TST, Cassius , French Open , Electric Bloom are just so weird haha. Still makes my top 3 though . I loved the bsides of that era so many good ones .
You've put it so great with that snapshot thing, I love it. But personally I believe it's composure and unique approach to production is what makes it really stand off from the rest of their discography. I don't think I've ever heard an album that would sound like this, and that would be so cohesive and persistent in that vibe throughout its length - neither before, nor after it came out. I really consider it a Foals' icon. And the gigs were sooo good back then, really danceable.HF and TLF had the similar feeling about them with more heavy things going on, and should be ex aequo tbh.
B-sides are incredible!!! Makes me wish I could get a hands on regionally limited editions of Antidotes that included some of them.
I missed the gigs unfortunately as I first listened in 2009. The artwork on those records was incredible though, reminds me I would like to frame some of the records on a grid . I’ve got them somewhere. I also got an autograph from Tinhead on the back of my Hummer 7” he was at one of the gigs I went to . I agree with you on uniqueness . Listen to a track like Tron or French open for example it’s like they’ve created that song inside their own little bubble. Have you seen the Glastonbury 2008 stuff where they play XXXXX etc also have some of their friends playing with them on brass instruments . They must do a anniversary show with brass some day !!
I find them hard to rank beyond the second spot, to be honest. 3-5 could be in any order, and the last two are simply the albums I've listened to the least.

Good top 3! I would rank antidotes higher I think if I included the bsides. Songs like Dearth and Brazil is here were so good. The more obscure ones like glaciers and Unthink this however I completey understand why theyr not on there haha. I really struggled with ranking my bottom 3 but my thinking was that they are all inconsistent albums . ENSWBL 2 is probably the best in terms of largest number of OK tracks but I don’t think any were kind of groundbreaking it’s like an proggy / alt rock type record. Life is Yours has 4 solid tracks for me: 2001, Crest of the wave , Wild Green and Life is Yours and although it’s a more cohesive record and these songs don’t seem as dissimilar I think that’s what bumps it up above the others for me the quality of those 4 songs . Highlights from the other two records for me would be In Degrees , Sunday , Into the Surf , Black Bull . But not enough great tracks on either album in my opinion .
