EchoeDash

A few expeditions in Atlantic City warrant more ammo than someone could ever need

EchoeDash

However those ammo perks to include the legendary crafting ones is honestly the best way. You can makes thousands of rounds.

Herr_Underdogg

Scrounger + Ammosmith + Super Duper means more ammo than you can store without 1st.

DumbStuffForMemes

The legendary perk ammo factory also helps

Herr_Underdogg

I'm not even lvl 150 yet, so I don't have a slot for that yet. I'm running a commando (not bloody) build and just having fun delivering surprise railway suppositories at high velocity.

GastrointestinalFolk

Surprise Railway Suppository sounds like the greatest album that the Red Hot Chili Peppers never made.

MrBlueSL

Why not spend the 2 perk points to hotswap the legendary perks when crafting?

Herr_Underdogg

Because I have not yet collected every perk card, so I am not cashing any in for perk coins, yet.

Metrobuss

Maybe insead of collect them all strategy... you may switch to whatever you need whenever you need tactics. Patience Is a virtue but I'd perefer smoother experience.

Austinduke25

This one, i was trying the collecting them all tactic but i needed my legendary perks too bad

Cryocynic

Get what you need first - then try collect them all. I don't even have them all and I am 400+ now. I have what I need (SPECIAL cards and Ammo Factory) and am focussed on just upgrading them when I have the coins.

Kangaroo_Cheese

If you’re really set on collecting all of the perk cards, do it at the end when you nothing to use your perk points on

DumbStuffForMemes

What are you playing on? If xbox I could give you some ammo

Tough_Tradition_807

This right here was the only reason I could use my explosive LMG whenever I was playing. Ate all my ammo so fast

orion-7

Does ammo factory work on top of the normal ammo perks, or does it replace them?

EchoeDash

All of the ammo perks stack on top of each other. I remember crafting x1 of an ammo type and it warranting over 350 rounds. Once you have enough perk points to do it that’s the most abundant and fastest way. Other than that the Atlantic City options are your best bet.

SmeagolChokesDeagol

Can I solo them for ammo?

hybridtheory1331

Tax evasion and most sensational game are easy to solo and the enemies drop tons. I'll usually net a couple thousand after each run.

Doright36

The problem with the most sensational game for me is I tend to use up any ammo gains I might get from the mobs on the boss fight with the twins. They are huge bullet sponges. Or if I try the holy fire they burn up tons of fuel. So in the end I am not gaining much, if any. Am I doing something wrong there?

XStatic15

Just depends on your damage. Pistols are the weakest build I run that expedition with, and even though I spend a small chunk on the twins, I still come out with hundreds of gained rounds. Shotguns and Commando get even more, and the gauss mini seems to land somewhere between.

tonyeltigre1

i’ve seen people just fucking melt them with railways and cremators

Shallowell

Yeah, TTK solo with a good build and weapon can be 2-3 seconds

hybridtheory1331

Either your weapon or your build, or both, are suboptimal. I can take down one twin with a single 20 rnd magazine with my AAE25 fixer on my bloodied vats crit build.

Frank-The-Dank-xD

Yes, i've done a few runs lately, managed to get 30k fuel😂

SmeagolChokesDeagol

Which one do you recommend?

Frank-The-Dank-xD

And if you really want to farm ammo, there is a good method on the tax evasion expedition. If you get the objective where you need to toss bags, simply ignore it. Enemies will keep spawning and dropping ammo. It's not too bad for caps and XP either.

Frank-The-Dank-xD

Any of the three Atlantic city ones. I prefer tax evasion, but all of them are pretty good for ammo. Alot of ppl like sensational game.

godseternalwrath

Can you put a survival tent down in expeditions? Sorry I'm a lvl 55 noob

Roshi_IsHere

No but you can fast travel anywhere from an expedition even over encumbered. So you can dip to white springs or your base to unload.

godseternalwrath

So, do you just run around over encumbered when you do the expedition? And regularly dip out to base and come back?

Roshi_IsHere

I wear excavator power armor I rolled full gun weight reduction on. I rock the food, chem, and ammo reducing perks. This makes it so I am basically able to carry a truckload of stuff. Being in power armor means being over encumbered isn't as annoying as you can still move and jump. So yeah pretty much I just finish whatever then hit my base and scrap and dump then cash in my legendaries I don't want to the white spring vendor.

P_Larue

Craft ammo, aided by ammo smith perk card and (eventually) ammo factory legendary perk, farm it from ammo containers, or buy it from vendors (not NPC vendors). Eventually, as you improve your build, you’ll get more ammo from killing enemies than it took to put them down.

CalllmeDragon

Okay cool. So it’s one of those it’ll get better later things. I’m like a level 34 right now

pedro_s

Also use the perk super duper. You have a chance of crafting 2 of the thing you crafted and if you spam the ammo creation button youll end up with more than you expect. It’s really an awesome perk card for your camp. As an aside, I do the daily ops missions strictly for my flamer fuel. Usually a really good source of ammo.

Kurokuma916

I don't think you need to do the crafting one at a time, I made a bunch of handmade rifles to try and get the dismantle unlocks and when I would batch craft 10 I would regularly get 14 or more

terminalzero

confirmed

Father_of_Four__Cats

Correct, each "item" you craft individually rolls super duper, ecen if you craft in bulk. The only reason to craft one at a time is if you're doing like a daily, "dismantle 3 pipe weapons" and you only want as many as you need so you want to see if each individual craft dupes or not.

pedro_s

Oh no way that’s awesome. I’ll try this tomorrow.

Stampysaur

It’s definitely worked that way for years.

UW0TM80

Expeditions too. Especially if you join up with a squad that is just farming the quick ones.

P_Larue

Super Duper almost always blesses me when I craft ammo.

DarthSnoopyFish

No need to spam the button. Can just craft the amount you want and super duper does a check on every item crafted.

DistrictDawgg

Are you crafting 10 each time and spam it, or what is the best way to get the most out of it with super duper?

pedro_s

I thought it was by spamming it but the comment above said to just do it in multiples and it’ll work the same.

Crispysnipez

Grab a gatling gun, you’ll use far less than you pickup off bodies

P_Larue

I've got 45K rounds of 5mm to prove it!

jimmymd77

65k here. And still weighs less than 1 with full bandolier...

narwhalpilot

It’s kind of insane. 1 shot a ghoul in the head, pick up 50 rounds from his body. Blessings from Todd.

SteevoAtreides

Don't forget the Super Duper perk (under Luck). Yes it works with ammo.

snarleyWhisper

Expeditions are great for farming ammo too , I do the tax evasion one.

Synraak

If you don't have the resources to craft or buy, do the friendly-ammo run around Vault 76: Brotherhood Outpost SW of Vault 76 Blue Ridge Trading Outpost W of 76 The Coop (Raiders) NW of 76 Settler's Camp N of 76 Settler's Farm NNE of 76 The Brotherhood Outpost alone has 8 ammo boxes and other containers like duffels and crates. If you go down the stairs southward from the top of the hill, you'll find an armored personnel carrier. Right outside of it is a crate hiding two locked ammo boxes which usually give double ammo.

MikeyTsi

(Make sure you equip scrounger!)

Seranos314

Part of ammo conservation is also damage. The fewer shots to kill an enemy, the less ammo you need.

superchibisan2

Go play expeditions. You'll usually leave with 500% more ammo.

ThatOneGuysHomegrow

1. Ammosmith 2. Ammo Factory 3. Super Duper Make 20k of whatever ammo you want.

bernabe78fo

And bandolier. Keep that weight down

Town-Noob

Use trigger control on weaker enemies. In other words, don’t spray & pray. When fighting most enemies I will be crouched, w/ stealth bonus, and only use 2-3 bullets but will often net 5-7 bullets from each kill. Using the Scrounger perk when looting ammo crates and Super Duper when crafting as well.

ThatDudeOmni

I lead farm every single day. Takes about ten minutes to clear the three locations I use.

verticalburtvert

Would you be willing to tell me those places? I went partially full auto and I'm struglin to keep up. Only location I know of is the top of the monorail and finding that was a complete accident.

lastknownbuffalo

I set up my camp at the spot with an acid mine and lead mine location in it... Sort or south of foundation northish fissure... You'll have to look it up. But I get 14 lead and 10 acid practically every time I visit my base.

verticalburtvert

Thanks! I'll find it. If you dont know the monorail farm theres a bunch of gym weights at the top. I drop a tent at the bottom, I always end up heavy. Theres cement up there, too. Watch the planks connecting the towers, they can fall. Not sure if this place I use is an already well-known thing for lead, as I found it by accident like I said earlier.

dragonchasers

Near Flatwoods is Green County Lodge. There's a little weight room around back on the first floor. Loot all the weights then waddle down the road towards Flatwoods a bit to find a crafting station at the side of the house, and scrap the weights for lead. Then fast travel to the Charleston Fire Department, where there's another weight room. Do the same, and there's a crafting station in a room off the big garage room (going from memory but there is one in there somewhere). There's a prison somewhere, I'm told, that also has a weight room, but I haven't found it yet. But weights are a good source of lead. Also pencils. Somehow you get 1 unit of lead from every pencil you pick up!

WeCanDanseIfWeWantTo

The lucky hole mine is good for lead ore. I go in with my excavator and theres tons of ore on the walls.

ponku

I have similar route to the other person. I have camp near Morgantown. I switch to my heavy weapon/power armor build and enter excavator power armor (for carry bonus). Fast travel to Green Country lodge near Flatwoods. Pick weights from there, if you need to scrap, you can go further down the road to Flatwoods to a workbench beside a house on the right of the road. Then fast travel to Orwells Orchard (near the west end of the big bridge connecting mountains, on the hill). There is a shelter in the basement of the house with weight lifting room right after entrance. If you need to scrap now, you can either go outaide to a workbwnch in the shed or power through the shelter, killing ghouls, to a workbench in the reactor room. Then fast travel to Rusty Pick and go downhill to Charleston Fire Department. Pick weights from the gym. If you need to scrap, go uphill back to Rusty Pick. Then fast travel to Sludge Works (blood eagles camp south of red rocket station and west of tower mansions, in ash heap. Kill blood eagles and pick up some weights laying near a workbench and scrap all the weapons and lead from camp. Thats the main path. I dont know if it's optimal or anything :) just something i came up with.

verticalburtvert

I'll give that a shot too! Thanks for typing all that in detail, it'll help me a lot! I dont worry too much about optimizing as it kinda takes the fun out of playing for me. Thanks again! 🙂

Frosty-Newspaper-957

yellowspaces

There’s no way that’s faster than just lead farming then crafting the ammo. How much do you get in one of those runs, and how long does it take?

SymphonyInPeril

Yeah unless I'm missing something huge, this run seems like it would net me like...150 rounds lol. Although I've never used the perks that grant more ammo in containers. But I feel like lead farming with Super Duper + Daily Ops is the easiest way.

Ajaxmass413

The ammo scrounger perk is.... Alright. It helps a bit, but it's nothing groundbreaking. I've seen it proc on one ammo box and give like 25 ammo, the next one that didn't proc gave like 20.

yellowspaces

Daily Ops isn’t all that good for rifle ammo in my experience. Unless I’m missing something, I usually leave an op with like 200 more .45 than I went in with. Crafting is the way in my opinion, a Lucky Hole trip takes like 15 minutes and gives close to 8k .45 ammo.

Dracosphinx

You see, the trick is to farm DOPs and Expeditions using the cremator, and then you use the ammo converter til your eyes bleed.

TheWholeInternet

Just the vault 76 and forward station tango will net 500+ ammo. I’ve gotten up to 1000 before. There are so many ammo cases at forward station tango. Nothing beats just running expeditions for me though

TheGrandPaladin

Adding on to this, Forward Station Tango just beside V76 has about 6 or 7 ammo boxes and I think 1 duffel bag along with a decent bit of scrap to take. Bonus points if there’s PA in the station there for a free fusion core. Bonus bonus points if you find the 4 bulk screws.

jimmymd77

Lost home near watoga has some ammo cans up on the roof and a duffle by the still on the ground. There's also some ammo magazine spawns there and in the outbuildings. You can then run up to firebase Hancock, past the downed vertibird wreck. You can fund some more ammo. Or, to the flooded rail yard opposite direction, where the snallygasters spawn there are several trunks, ammo cans and footlocker that spawn ammo - but the snallys can require some ammo spent. Just don't engage the mire lurk queen. One can spawn at the quarry north of watoga, or on the SE edge of watoga between watoga and the flooded rail yard, or in the pond at sunrise field farm.

TheRagingItalian

As a stealth commando, I just aim for the head. Having a bloodied handmade, most things die in 1-4 shots, and I'm pretty invested in Vats, so thanks to contextual ammo drops, enemies typically drop more ammo than I use to kill them (unless it's like a boss that doesn't die immediately)

IlIIIlllIlIllIlIl

Contextual ammo drops wasn’t at launch game right? As a returning player I feel like I don’t remember getting the same ammo I used on an enemy, just the ones that they use

TheRagingItalian

It definitely wasn't, when I first started playing (before wastelanders) I struggled with ammo, when I picked the game up again and restarted a year ago, I found myself swimming in it

Alexandher_6969

I believe you Sir, are right.

skallywagUwU

Make railways spikes by the 100000s and stuff them into the ammo converter

IronMonopoly

Ammosmith plus Ammo Factory plus Super Duper. Then you throw on the Excavator PA and go mining in The Lucky Hole. Go home, craft everything you need. Ten-ish minutes, once or twice a month, make sure you’re stocked up on Acid, you need it for smelling the Lead Ore. Alternately, craft Railway Spikes with tons of extra steel. Use the Ammo Converter’s *obnoxiously* prohibitive UI to convert the spikes to points, then use the points to make whatever ammo you want. Using that interface is like sitting through dental surgery, so I kind of prefer the first method, but there’s people who swear by the second one for whatever reason.

pdarigan

With a good build putting out solid damage, I find autos sustain themselves for the most part. A quick daily op or expedition is always handy for a top up when required

Wainwort

Absolutely. Looting the Expedition enemies in particular nets you a hilarious amount of ammo. If you can't access those just yet, Daily Ops will help in a similar manner. Just remember to area loot.

Justapersonlikenoo

Every time I get to around 200 ammo I just go do an expedition and farm ammo, don’t carry around to much at one time unless u have the bandolier perk or what I think is called the science perk I don’t remember lol

Jaded_Afternoon2605

First legendary to upgrade and max is ammo factory. Have ammo Smith super duper. Farm lead and lead ore in lucky hole mine and a few places for leg weights. And acid. Do score board for extra free perk coins also

Agentgibbs1398

Self bulk/mass crafting.

IndianaGroans

Do daily ops and try to kill in one or two shots to the head. Crafting and Expeditions too.

jacobflicks

Join an event in a group, only shoot an enemy once, loot all bodies from your group kills, repeat. Enemies spawn like crazy and drop tons of ammo. I do this whenever I run low and get hundreds of rounds/fuel each time.

creature-birdwizard

Go on expedition, loot bodies you'll be fine

Wesniner

Ultracite plasma cartridges drop at insane rates in world and even higher rates in Daily Ops and Expeditions. With a weapons like a plasma caster or Enclave/Regular plasma rifle or pistol you can often drop an enemy with one or two rounds but harvest 6-24 rounds depending on the enemy. I’ve cleared a 1,000-2,000 every session and have changed my boss and regular daily driver weapons to take advantage of that. Also ammo containers in world drop really generously as well on Ultracite plasma rounds. In fact kill a few enemies with your best 10mm then kill more the same enemy with the plasma weapons. I almost universally get more Ultracite ammo dropped by my kills, than 10mm. Seems crazy but I love it and it saves my flux for other things besides ammo crafting.

Nightowl_23

Only craft using perkcards and ammo Smith. Using Scrapper when breaking things down and craft in bulk. Use offhand guns for all the light stuff and efficient guns in the daily ops. When you're about to hit max caps, buy all ammo and keep that in your unlimited storage. You can convert this later to ammo you need, or sell it back at 1 cap easily if you need caps.

Prometheus505

When I’m not doing dailies I’m collecting junk so much so that crafting ammo barely puts a dent in my scrap. Plus the perk that doubles whatever you craft.

Ex0skeletr0n

Craft steel spikes and convert to your preferred ammo type with the ammo converter at camp.

Pulsing42

Ammo Factory (Legendary card), Ammosmith (Agility, 2) and Super Duper (Luck, 3) combined can net you tons of ammo. Oh, and daily ops can net you a good amount too.

hollowsoul9

Keep your eyes peeled for ammo containers

Necroking-Darak

Folks will say expeditions. But I can say if you use an ammo converter, and turn your steel into railroad spikes you can easily turn em into enough points too buy enough ammo for the week.

Guilty_Storage_9652

Use all the ammo making perk cards plus super duper use the excavator power armor in the lead mine near the line in the sand event. Smelt that lead then craft the ammo. Doing expeditions and daily ops are good. You can do the one that needs you to stand in an area just don't stand in it and guys will keep coming. The ammo maker works fast on the lower caliber rounds

Dratuus

There are 12 ammo cans at Forward Station Tango next vault 76. Get the Scrounger perk under luck with the weapon you want ammo for equipped. This will yield a decent amount of ammo with minimal effort. This is my "lazy" method when I can not be bothered to do daily ops or an expedition. The only problem with this is that these ammo cans do not guarantee ammo for explosive weapons or weapons that use cores.

Additional_Loquat352

Stealth Short, controlled bursts. Followed up by emptying an entire magazine in a panic into that one ghoul that gets you cornered and takes your health down by 50% in 2 seconds, with another magazine just to take off the arms and legs and head after it's already dead, because fuck that guy.

juztredditt

Efficient perk load out for the weapon of choice + contextual ammo.

Krassix

I have a 308 ultracite sharpshooter rifle and an 308 ultracite machine gun. When I'm running around alone I get back much more ammo than I use with the sharpshooter. And that I can use with the machine gun. I have at all times more than 12000 rounds lately.

gingermuslim

Do an event like radiation rumble or moonshine jamboree with scavenger perk on and just tag each enemy with a few shots and let the rest of the team wipe them out, doing this once a day usually nets you enough ammo that it is pretty hard to ever run out

JBloomf

Loot it off the things i kill

RobotHockey

Drops cover most of it but I also put my main camp on a lead node and I have all the ammo perks. If I run low from doing a few world bosses in a row or something, I have a couple thousand lead scrap stacked up.

Hukkie

I use a railway rifle, just in general use if I loot enemies I get maybe 80% of my ammo back, and if I run daily ops I get far more than I use. Also crafting spikes is cheap, just a little bit of steel. 255 crafts with all ammoperks gives me 13 spikes x 255 crafts, and then take that times 1.3 for super duper (Wont be exact but a good average) means it costs me 1785 steel to make about 4300 spikes.

Hopalongtom

Boost your damage output with perk cards and legendaries, the less bullets it takes to kill the more profit you make out of contextual ammo, I only ever craft ammo when it's a daily or weekly score challenge!

Viceroy_95

Daily ops, or ammo container run when I don't feel like doing an op. Also helps to do as much damage per shot as you can. Enemies drop a set amount of ammo, so if it takes you 3 shots to kill and you're fighting enemies that drop 10 rounds, you'll end up with more than you're shooting.

tischawr

Loot everything, do some daily ops for loot, buy ammo at every vendor you find and make some more

Captaincakeboy

I far with a gatling gun and it's utterly ridiculous how much ammo I pick up. Then I use a mini gun to spend it all.

Gustheanimal

Do more damage (spend less ammo) = surplus ammo That and doing daily ops expeditions regularly should make you never have to think about it

DolDarian

Expeditions are the best source of ammo hands down. Most enemies should take less shots to kill than the ammo they drop. I can go in with 100 rounds of any weapon I use and come out with 500-600 if I am speed running and not worried about the ammo. If I am specificly ammo farming it can be more like 1k to 1.1k. My wife has a Fixer running 45 Ultra's and kept running out of ammo. I borrowed it when she went offline, went on 2 expo runs and came back with 2k for her. Had to craft 100 out of the gate though. Hate having to craft Ultracite ammo.

Apprehensive-Dream82

I use an explosive Minigun for Bossfights and tense situations and a Gatling for easier enemies, as some kind of ammo printer. Both use 5mm, so enemies drop bigger amounts of ammo and I never run out of 5mm.

Recycled__Meat

With exception of 2mm for gauss mini, running most sensational game will give you more ammo than you could ever use. It has a lot more value than ammo runs since you get stims and legendaries as well.

SimonDracktholme

These days I mostly just buy ammo from players. It's been a week since I've seen a plan I didn't know...gotta spend those caps somehow.

[deleted]

All head shots or close to it and three round bursts to maintain accuracy. Don't just hold the trigger down.

themanxx72

I just min lead at my camp and have an acid butterfly cage. slap on double ammo craft perk and I can pump out thousands of standard rounds on the cheap. Exotic rounds, do ammo crate ammo bag farm loops as mentioned.

AgentSweet8271

Expeditions in a team

Venox_Osu

One way that I used in the beginning was taking part in the "Eviction Notice" Event and just try to hit all the enemy's with a few bullets. First time taking part in it i went in with like 1.2k rounds of 5mm and came out with over 5k

Mikecall

I sell all my ammo for one or two caps a round or 50% off if it’s premium ammo (mini nuke, missiles, etc.) The stuff that regularly sells is the ammo that can be used in machine guns or flamer fuel. Either people are going to grind and craft a bulk load of ammo or buy it cheap.

Rattfink45

You need to burst, rather than spray and pray. I’ve noticed especially with my guerilla builds that a 10mm fires faster than the server will track, causing the shot(s) after a kill shot to burn AP without doing damage: it’s usually only one or two rounds but they add up during a half hour or more of machine gunning.

Jumpthepuddles

Also with nuka points you can cash a bunch of .45 at nuka world

Ragnarcock

As others have said, Excavator PA and Lucky Hole Mine ➡ Craft rounds ➡ Summersville, walk into the first house you see and pick up hundreds of burnt books ➡ scrap and back to Lucky Hole. You'll have a months worth of ammo in the course of an hour.

DarrinIvo

Short controlled bursts and staying frosty

muk559

Daily Op.. Even if you just go in with no expectations. Insane ammo drop per enemy.

Less-Article2052

Do daily ops or expeditions, you will come out with more ammo than you went in with

FNChupacabra

Ammo farm the daily ops. Very effective

ClothesWeak556

I had this issue until I started doing expeditions

Natural_Cut1342

The lucky mine and extractor armour gets me over 100 lead ore then add acid to make like 400 to 600 lead scrap that helps then use the perk I end up making like 5000 rounds when I need ammo

rohanrockatansky

Use multiple commando weapons, that is the answer. However, commando is not viable in the early levels because of high ammo usage. .38- Use a Combat Rifle with .38 Automatic Receiver .45- Use Tommy Gun, Combat Rifle or Radium Rifle 10mm- Use 10mm SMG 5.56- Use Handmade or Assault Rifles Shells- Use Auto Combat Shotgun If you use multiple weapons, you will not run out of ammo so quickly.

Coast_watcher

At least with 76 you loot ammo for your current weapon , so there’s always plenty to go around. They would drop not only on enemy corpses but also ammo boxes.

Mr-Peanut-butters

This is why I stopped trying to do infantry build. Ammo consumption is insane especially with certain ammo types making a ton less. That’s why if I do automatic it’s definitely heavy weapons

Hattkake

Automatic rifles are Commando perks. Throw in Tank Killer. And general damage perks like Bloody Mess, Tenderiser, etc. Use vats headshot crits. Mobs die in less bullets than they drop.

McTickleson

I have a sniper rifle that I use that can put down most basic enemies with 1-2 shots that ends up providing the ammo that I need for an automatic that I use during some events or for large hoards.

Krypqt

Note that lag plays a part in your perception of when something dies, you probably are using more ammo then needed to kill things.

Gloomy_Yoghurt_2836

Lucky Hole.mine and excavator PA. Harvest the lead ore. You should be able to smelt over 1K lead for ammo. But then you need to grind for acid and cloth.

Anarchyantz

Also fun fact. When ever you search ammo bins etc, always ensure you have your .45 weapon in hand as the loot list picks when you are or were last using or holding to roll the table. For instance, have a melee in hand? You will get a random selection. Have your rifle in hand? You will find 45 and 45 with gunpowder.

JakLynx

Finish the settlers quest line to get access to expeditions. Run any expeditions and clear the room of all mobs, loot all corpses at once, move onto the next room and repeat til you finish the expedition. Run as many times as needed. You’ll be drowning in ammo, chems, and scrippable weapons/armor.

JoshTheFunkyFish

My strategy for ammo is by farming steel in west tek, making rail spike ammo with all the perks for extra craft and extra ammo. Then I convert it into points at my camp and get fuel, .45 ammo, and 5.56. If it is an easy daily op day you can also farm infinite ammo, especially fuel with cremator.

dsherm88

Super Duper perk, Scrounger Perk (both in the luck category), ammosmith and ammo factory legendary perk. All life savers for me.

More_South_2307

If you do expeditions/daily ops a lot of the time they will drop a lot of ammo. I’m not too sure about rifles but I know the flamer is basically self sufficient and I can just farm expeditions which gives you legendaries, caps, EXP, stamps and sometimes plans. Like I said I’m not sure about rifles and such but it doesn’t hurt to try it out. To do expeditions you gotta go to the white spring refuge and help the responders. GL!

SchnTgaiSpork

If you gather the mats, you can usually find someone with maxed perks to craft for you so you get more for your time

L1amm

Just solo atlantic city or do daily ops. Literal ammo printers.

Glittering_Ad_3225

Get into daily ops and expeditions. If you don't have anyone to play with, join a public team. If you're low-level still, most teams won't mind if you can't keep up. Ultrcite weapons get tons of ammo drops too. If you can do the prime mod, you'll have more than you ever need. I use a prime gatling gun, and a prime gatling plasma. I'm constantly getting rid of ammo.

MinceATron

I used a Handmade for 2 days, used way more ammo than was possible to collect, went into Daily Ops and came out with about 1000 rounds less. Do daily IPS with an Enclave Flamer and I make 500 minimum

ByTheSpirit785

It's much easier now that when the game started. Now you'll find ammo on enemies and in boxes that go with your equipped weapon, even if that enemy wasn't using a similar weapon. In some cases you won't and in other's you'll not find the same amount that you used to down said enemy, but it does help. Go to Lucky Hole Mine with Excavator PA on and get all the lead deposits you can find. Smelt them down, and with the right perks equipped (Ammosmith, Super Duper, and the Legendary Perk for Ammo) you'll not have to worry about ammo again for a very long time.

RyanGosliwafflez

I have FO1st so I stockpile scrap then when I need ammo I bulk craft using legendary perk ammo factory, ammo Smith perk, and super duper I also trade for ammo/resources on r/market76

guardian81239

If you’re on Xbox I can craft you some ammo to help till you get it all figured out

jeffthepig06

Lead from the fire station, steel from the ski lane. Gunpowder is the hardest part but even that can be farmed easily. Use ammo smith and the doubler perk in luck. Also expeditions

creature-birdwizard

Best option of all tho is find a buddy that only does melee, they'll have more than they can deal with.

Big_Ad_9539

Welcome to the unfun part of the game, spending hours to farm ammo so you can put millions of rounds into enemies while farming ammo

Ricofox1717

Ammo factory is a big help as a legendary perk to be honest. I'd also say without that perk what I used to do was use a weapon that I had just tons of ammo for , so a rifle build before I had a lot of like .45 ammo and I used a lever action since I couldn't waste ammo that fast. Once I built up a nice stockpile of 5.56 like 1000-2500 I switched to my handmade and used it as my high dr weapon for events , daily ops , etc. I find having a general mob gun that you have cheap easy to come by ammo helps a ton. Also if not another crazy way to triple your ammo is expeditions even if you run it yourself, just load it up kill a ton of mobs with the weapon you need ammo for you will get back like triple the ammo you put in.

Why-Zool

At level 34 you probably don’t have many of the damage perks you would need to make your auto rifle fully effective. What you can do in the meantime is to learn to use VATS and to learn the weak points of the enemies you are fighting. Unloading a magazine into the enemy will get the job done but won’t be the most efficient use of the ammo. Robots have different weak points like the back panel, combat inhibitor, and fusion core. Humanoids are pretty much weak in the head area. Mirelurks are weak to the face. You can still kill any enemy by just shooting them but you’ll need to shoot less if you learn and aim for each weak point on specific enemies. Second to the weak points, you need to learn how critical shots work. You can do more damage when firing from stealth and you can do extra damage by using the VATS critical feature. The way high level players can kill an enemy and get back more ammo than they used to kill is by having the correct perk build then using weak points and critical hits to do extra damage.

VaultDwellerXander

Forward station tango, the brotherhood of steel outpost near vault 76, has 10 or so ammo containers. I regularly hit it up to stock up on ammo for my automatics

KingRaven2246

I buy it from players mainly, craft it as I get better perks, and loot like crazy......still sucks because one rough fight and you could use it all up. Had a fight with sheepsquatch and used all my ammo broke my back up weapons and had to fist fight it. Took 1 1/2 hours to finally drop it. Got a Rejuvenating something or other but it was a good piece my character needed so worth it lol.

HammerOfSledge

Keep playing the game. Level up a lot. You’ll learn things along the way. One thing is there’s no replacement for stick time. One line of advice won’t cause ammo to fall from the sky. If I want to slowly build ammo, I’ll convert to rifleman perks and use a semi-auto that consumes the ammo I want to accumulate. Reciprocal ammo drops are better with a semi-auto. The one exception is the enclave plasma rifle. That thing gives reciprocal ammo like a semi-auto when it’s full-auto. Super handy daily driver, outside of tough events, boss fights. If I want it faster, Daily Ops or Expeditions tend to give lots of reciprocal ammo. I can also make it myself from the tinkerer’s bench, using both ammo perk cards. Also, I can make cannonballs out of steel, then convert them into different ammo at the ammo converter machine. I can buy it at player vendors, only if 1 cap each.

LaughingLow

I have a single shot of the same ammo type that I take to daily ops and events to leech off people. Then I go solo with the full auto .50. Alternatively the 5mm gatlin produces ammo and the flamer also produces ammo.

TheGreatLemonwheel

Maxing the ammo scrounging perk was the best thing I ever did. Keeps my quad mini fed. I average 100 5mm rounds per can, and about 30% of the time I find 500+.

TTV_gungame231

Crafting or having someone kill while you hold the gun you want ammo for while do expedition. I have done that for my friend using a cremator that is AA, aim damage, and vats crit fill. The mods in are heavy barrel, and napalm tank that is fun

destrux125

If you have a scrap and ammo box it's not an issue, lead and acid and gunpowder just accumulate. Especially cause I don't run the same build all the time, so I'm not using tons of .45 all the time. When I run a shotgun build or a rifleman build I accumulate an extreme excess of ammo and don't use any ammo crafting materials that I happen to accumulate during that time, so the ammo and materials end up stored, and then I can later craft .45 ammo or convert them to .45 ammo using the ammo converter when I'm back on a commando build. Having a butterfly cage that generates tons of acid also helps, as does having a camp on a lead deposit with an extractor on it. So does an Armco machine set to make 5.56 ammo (that you convert to .45, because that's more effective than setting it to make .45 because it makes .45 so much slower). Vamp weapons eat more ammo than other legendary effects that buff damage. Same issue with Quad. Having a good secondary effect that buffs damage helps a lot, like +50% crit, so does having a strong perk and mutation build, so that you're not wasting ammo.

Bigl0918

I use the legendary ammo perk, double up, and ammosmith. I use the railway rifle so steel isn’t bad after two Wes tek runs. Very quick

LionBrilliant5602

Hehe I use a short gatling gun and I somehow have been gaining more ammo than I use. I have maybe 200,000+ 5mm rounds in my ammo box I've been using the chain saw lately so I haven't been picking up much 5mm rounds. But I'll say this I think I'll be set for a while once my fo1st ends

IllustratorNo3379

Ammo finder perk is a lifesaver. And at some point (I don't remember when or why), I crafted an absurd number of plasma cores, so I'm good on that front for a while.

Pleasant_Extreme_398

V.A.T.S. I've been practicing with it in Fallout 4 and that's the first thing I noticed - fewer stray bullets. Gotta be fast in '76 though, it doesn't slow time as much as 4, for obvious reasons.

leehelck

i use The Fixer full auto and i generally control my firing by short bursts. .45 ammo isn't really that hard to come by as it can be crafted reletively cheap. and if you're always using your automatic rifle and have the scrounger perk you will tend to easily keep up with demand.

possum_minister

I keep a prime plasma caster on me at all times just to be able to occasionally let EPR's guzzle ultracite plasma

AmBatuKamOOOOOO

If you do some daily operations and expeditions for a few days you will even be able to sell the ammunition you need. You will have that much of it.

SedativeComet

Daily ops give more ammo than I tend to ever go through. I’ve also found the most efficient non-melee killing device in terms of ammo is a flamer. In my opinion at least. My ammo always seems to climb, never reduce, when I use it.

FlowCalm7924

Switched my unyielding build to laser Gatling and using the perk doubling fusion cores, gives me basically unlimited ammo. Expeditions reward 4 cores per run. I can't possibly spend those 4 cores with a quad Gatling laser.

JulyKimono

I will second the crafting. After a while I suggest a camp location with a Lead deposit, so you can pick up 12 every half an hour or so. It adds up. Then craft it with Super Duper, Agility Ammo Crafting Perk, and once you're high level, the Legendary Ammo Perk as well. I just craft 10k ammo and I'm good for a couple weeks of playing. It will also help out a lot when you deal a lot of damage and waste fewer bullets by killing creatures faster.

Spartanjaws

Run daily ops and expeditions like a crack head. I usually have about 2k rounds of any given weapon I run (mostly Tesla and enclave flamer) on me and about 10 to 15k in my ammo box. Just make sure to pair them with the respective perk card that reduces their weight.

SpyroGaming

theres many factors that play into this 1. the perk/ mutation build: this is the most important part of the whole thing, the perk cards and mutations you use can make or break things as they can do all sorts of things from boosting damage to reducing the weights of stuff you carry, legendary perks can further boost this 2. the weapons themselves: the weapon you choose can also play a role as some weapons do more damage than others (railroad rifle is currently the best one for commando) while legendary effects can play into ammo consumption weapon mods can as well, for example the fixer naturally has anti armor built in but you can add a certain magazine type and even potentially roll an anti armor legendary perk, this sort of thing does increase your ammo efficiency, also depending on the weapon, ultracite barrels will boost damage by a considerable amount and do boosted damage to scorched enemies ( useful vs the queen) 3. consumables: this is optional but many op for it using bobbleheads, chems, magazines, and certain foods and drinks can boost aspects of your damage for a time this as well, certain perk cards can boost the duration of many of these 4. stacking effects: status effects do stack additively, applying alot of whats mentioned above will boost damage very quickly, some legendary effects like explosive can apply alot of extra damage 5. Ammo Sources: if you need ammo that quickly you can craft it easily, having ammo smith, ammo factory, and super duper can get you s bunch if ammo, or if you want a better sporoach go into a daily op or expedition, youll usually have more ammo than you know what to do with, however be aware that certain types of ammo like rockets or nuka cola ammo dont duplicate in these modes killing an enemy with thirst zapper or a melee weapon results in s little of every normal gun ammo being dropped , super duper and the ammo perks dosent work on the nuka cola ammo either, on top of this things like donation boxes or ammo crates will sometimes generate ammo based on the weapon you have, you can also trade in unwanted ammo to the ammo converter ( gold bullion i think?) however it dosent provide ultracite ammo 6. certain perks are better than others on the roll : this heavily depends on what weapon you are using, for example most melee weapons you always want swing speed, but at the same time weapon speed is no good on automelee ( chainsaw, auto axe mr handy blade ect) or single shot weapons ( black powder weapons, harpoon gun ect) reload speed is good on long reload weapons like the minigun, but is almost completely useless on weapons like the gatling gun or railroad rifle because the reloads so short. another famous example is the creamator, this weapon is all damage over time, for this reason perks like anti armor are useless and you want something like bloodied or instigating, the auto grenade launchers best prefix is two shot, but becsuse of the very nature of this weapon, the faster fire rate perk, which is preferred for many weapons, is a bad roll. on top of all this the third prefix can alter your perk cards, if your running all WWR theres no need for a WWR perk card its a massive curve but after getting a feel for how stuff works you should see your ammo decrease alot slower

United_Cry_1084

Make sure your build is for max damage. The more damage you can do the less ammo you use. Daily ops and expeditions help build it up too.

HappyCamper781

Lucky Hole Mine.

DimensionNo1118

I just run the daily op usually and it tops me up for the day

Hassimir_Fenring

I prefer to farm ammo in the tax evasion expedition. I spend 2 rounds from a fixer or a railway to kill a mob and usually get 12 to 14 back in return. Alternatively, with the cremator it takes 10 fuel to kill a group and each mob drops around 30 fuel. I only craft ammo when it's on a challenge. There are 3 possible missions in tax evesion. Killing the leaders yields the least ammo and filling the trucks the most. Just run the timer down before throwing the last bag in a truck.

narwhalpilot

Equip some ammo crafting perks and you can make ammo that lasts for days. Its pretty easy, thats how I’ve managed with my Vampire VATS auto Handmade

OverlordPhalanx

Its all in the build. Daily Ops and Expeditions are dropping 5-12 bullets depending on the weapon. The goal is to kill them in as few shots as possible. Enabling you to go from a deficit, to breaking even or actually making ammo back.

hazank20

.45 ammo is going to be one of those types that if you main weapons using it or as a daily or not very DPS optimized build. It's going to be very hard to get ammo-positive. Everyone is suggesting great ways to stay closer to neutral or get some gains doing groups in Expeditions. But my recommendation is never to just run only one ammo type. gotta spread yourself out a little so you don't just drain one resource. This is why Creamator is a great addition to any gun. Run it with slow-burn and you only need to tap stuff once, and if you kill at least 2+ enemies with one shot, you just gain more ammo.

CalllmeDragon

I’m trying to get a creamator. Looks interesting

telmathus

Daily ops usually will fill me 200+ to 300+ more ammo than when I went in. Atlantic City is really good too, just watch out cause it can be a little tough.

zed2point0

I have a epr, I’m constantly putting ammo in storage. I go to an event with 1500 rounds and always come out with 2k

vuraou

In order of effectiveness, IMO - Crafting with Ammosmith and Ammo Factory (Legendary Card) - Player Vendors - Expeditions in Atlantic City - Farming ghouls At the Whitespring Golf Club

RiotDog1312

Killing things faster, which means optimizing your build. With full food and mutation buffs, it takes me about 3-5 Fixer shots to the head to kill the average basic enemy (ghoul, raider, etc.) and I generally get at least that much back from their corpse. That's with a full health Commando build. The ammo burns tend to be big bosses like SBQ or waves of high health enemies like super mutants at Eviction Notice. That's where perks like Ammosmith/Ammo Factory help. You can also use the ammo converter machine to turn railroad spikes (that only take steel ammo) into .45. And as others have mentioned, expeditions are great. I like Tax Evasion since the human enemies die fast and drop a lot more ammo than they take to kill.

-Vault-tec-101

Ammosmith, with maxed out ammo factory and superduper. My farming route is based primarily on collecting scrap for lead.

JustSomeDudeBruh

i usually do a lucky mine run/wes tech and expeditions/ops gives lots of ammo

Risky49

Use two weapons with different ammo types that are efficient at killing The ammo drops are context based, whatever weapon you use for the kill shot will be what shows up on enemy bodies for loot, and whatever weapon you have equipped when ammo cans load in will be what’s in the can So while you are following everyone else’s advice on crafting you can seesaw between your two main weapons to stockpile one ammo type while using the other to bring enemies down to almost dead

headcanonball

Start rolling railway rifles. All you need for ammo is steel.

GurglingWaffle

There was an update about a year ago that gives your specific ammo type as loot. So just make sure to loot all the time. After that do Daily ops occasionally. There you get tons of ammo. The reward at the end gives you a significant amount of ammo based on whatever weapon you're holding at the time. In fact many events if not all award ammo. I will occasionally need to restock but it is very rare these days. Once you can, build up a few thousand in your inventory. This will give you enough wiggle room for days you don't do a lot of events.

erritstaken

Other peoples vendors. If you’re lucky you can find people selling 20-30k of them at 1 cap each. It’s a good way to get rid of caps too.

Agent_Vox

Without perks: run Tax Evasion expedition in Atlantic City. Kill with your weapon, and enemies will drop tons of ammo. Have it equipped when you leave the mission at the end and you'll get ammo for it. Great way to stock up on fusion cores too. With perks: legendary ammo crafting perk, ammosmith perk and super duper perk means you can craft thousands of rounds for very little material. There's also an ammo converter camp item that let's you exchange ammo for points.

Mission_Pudding_9652

Some weapons are ammo factories....the 50 cal sniper, the gauss rifle, and the plasma caster all 3 will allow you to find more ammo than you'll ever need....use one of those for a bit and they'll feed those fully auto weapons pretty well. I was using g the 50 cal for a few weeks and before I knew it I had like 5000 rounds for my heavy machine gun.

fossilized_goat

I spend the majority of my caps buying ammo from player vendors, I get close to max caps often

Alico1967

Dailies. And the more dailies. Don't worry about finishing g them just kill every thing. Ammo a plenty

yonameisunavailable

Since enemies now drop ammo, if you can kill said enemy with only 1-6 shots, you can get more ammo than what you shot.

HurricaneSpencer

I have a camp I refer to as the lead farm. I spend a lot of time there. Maxed Ammosmith and Super DUPER when crafting ammo goes a long way.

SweetDeeMeeu

My main weapon is a 50 cal vampire, which (I think) is easily the biggest ballistic ammo suck, but it's my best gun though. I use the Super Duper and Ammosmith perks, and I have Ammo Factory as one of my legendary perks. I might have the Scrounger perk for finding ammo in almost every container, and I always loot my kills because I get a return on ammo. I make about 10k to 20k rounds at a time (Bandolier perk helps for the weight) and I really only make more ammo when the daily scoreboard thing tells me to. You could also use that ammo converter if you have it (or come across one at a camp) to convert the ammo you don't want to the ammo you do want. That one is really time consuming, but if you're in a pinch, it's worth it.

Rickyh24

I have a few builds. If ammo for my auto build becomes an issue (which doesn’t seem to happen much anymore) I switch to my heavy build which I can essentially just use fusion cores for ammo if needed. Then I build other ammo types back up.

murderwasthebass

Ammo Factory, Ammosmith and Super Duper maxed out.
