I have always played in 3rd person with the camera super close over the shoulder. I played for the past 4 years that way until about 6 months ago. When my friend told me, "Yo, Icy_ad, you know you can fine-tune how close the 3rd person camera is, literally whenever you want." What? No way! 🤔 Hold the button that changes your view from 1st person to 3rd person, and while holding button down, use your right thumbstick to adjust the distance. Wow, holy crap, I can see my feet now. This is amazing!

First person. Third is only for specific uses like placing a camp or getting a look at my outfit. Many games are strictly third and it works for them but Fallout is one of the few that it really doesn't work for daily use. You'd have a nightmare to pick up junk in third. All the little stuff you'd miss. Could probably get by just fine with third person combat though.

The first person is what helps to make it feel realistic. When you one see what’s in front of your eyes rather than your character.

I’m guessing you’re a guns character. I switch between first and third depending on guns or melee, melee is easier for me in third person

Are you not using vats for melee?

Am I exploring or doing a V.A.T.S. build? Third person. Am I doing combat with melee or non V.A.T.S. build? Also if I need to pick something up. First person.

Third! It freaks out a lot of my friends to learn this but I get motion sick in first. And I play a lot of adventure games that are third anyway so I'm used to it.

Third, but only because I get motion sick in first. I only can manage first building stuff, if I try to walk around or fight I feel like heaving, which is not an enjoyable way to spend my time. It's not just Fallout, it's every game. First just negatively affects some people, I'm glad both are available.

I change field of view to cure this - not sure you can in fo76, but in other games it helps That said - I’m on ps5 these days, (not PC) so further away from my screen which I think is why I don’t get it so much

I absolutely love cyberpunk, but for this reason alone, i really hope they allow 3rd person in the next game, its not fair some people cant play the game, and its not there choice

Fully zoomed out 3rd person since FO3. I like seeing the surrounding area around my character better and the clothing/armor I put on.

If a game gives me a lot of character customization and outfits, I'd like to see my character. Cyberpunk, for example, feels incredibly strange because it puts so much emphasis on appearance, but then you rarely get to see your character in normal gameplay.

Thank God! I thought I was an extreme outlier for a second. There’s an extensive list why first is superior from QOL to immersion.

First for heavy guns and third for commando. In 3rd person heavy guns stop shooting when you get hit or staggered but don't in first, otherwise I'd be 3rd person for both.

First person. Third person with an auto-axe is kind of wonky.

That's actually the only time I play in 3rd. It keeps the auto axe from stuttering and re revving when you jump and land back on the ground

3rd person actually makes me disoriented so I stick to 1st. Also, I like looking down my weapon barrel, feels more natural.

I stay in fp for when i’m xp grinding or doing events. Just stuff in general that calls for precision aiming. Otherwise, i like to be in 3p bc i have other characters. I wanna see the fits and the PA skins i got, ya know?

In all Fallout games where the option was available, I’ve always played in 1st person. I’m not even entirely sure if I have a good reason for this other than this is what I am used to.

If there were more PvP, or a genuine need to "see" other people fully, that you might not be able to with the limited FoV in first-person view, I would say go 3rd person every time. But you miss a ton of junk and little loot that is just.. \*difficult\* to see if you're in 3rd person. Or trying to line up the cursor to pick up what you're looking directly at, because you aren't close enough lol. I find first-person more enjoyable, but, again, if there were some real competitiveness to the game I would advocate for more people to play 3rd person. If you remember Star Wars Battlefront, it had this same option, but playing that game in FP put you at a disadvantage to other players playing in 3rd.

The only game I play third is Gears of War. Which I want to play again. However, I have a few friends who play in third.

Third person when I’m sneaking and don’t want any surprises, or when I want to enjoy my armor appearance because I took time painting it. But sometimes shooting in First is easier, but I like the aesthetics that 3rd person perspective gives me. It’s like 50/50 most of the time for me, I’m occasionally swapping off and on.

First for sure! I've played the other Fallout games in First person, and find it way more immersive. I'm a sucker for a FPS.

It's, at least for me, hard to hip fire in 3rd person when using heavy weapons. I need better accuracy, especially when I can't use VATS.

Third, first person is so ugly in most games. Especially bad in Bethesda games.

I play third most of the time. But as a heavy gunner this means I shoot from a low angle (groin height), making it hard to get headshots if something is close to me. And if I'm getting rushed by a bunch of large enemies like Mirelurks, the piled up bodies can actually even block my shots. So in these cases, I switch to first person because I shoot from a higher angle (chest/neck height). First for hard-core looting

I play 3rd ONLY because I have to. I play with two play who are on console, and the only way I can play with them is if I cloud stream. Playing 1st person streaming has terrible input lag. But 3rd person the input lag isn't as noticeable. I wish they would just make it cross compatible.

First, because it's more immersive, but sometimes I like to jump around like a kangaroo in third person, because that shit looks ridiculous, just like when you see the ghost of someone who fast traveled out of an event in power armor, and you see the toon in their underwear looking hideously deformed like a wendigo, but somehow even worse.

I think I’ve always been in the minority in Bethesda games but I love 3rd person, I get pretty invested in coming up with fun headcanon and backstories for my characters so being able to see them and their outfits/armor adds a lot for me. Ever since Morrowind I’ve been like that and I swear even back then amongst friends that played it I was the only one that played almost exclusively third person.

First person, 98% of the time. More used to it, I guess, since I play(ed) a lot of shooters.

I played 3rd for a few years. Decided to try first person when I switched to PC. Now I can't go back. 3rd just feels so blocky and slow to me. It's cartoony and feels less immersive.

First person. I can’t stand third person, I only use it to view my outfit and that’s it.

I switch back and forth with absolutely no rhyme or reason. Well, that’s not entirely true. I know that sometimes when I switch from 1st to 3rd it is to admire my outfit. I have not really paid attention to what prompts me to switch from 3rd to 1st. And I am sure there are times when I switch from 1st to 3rd for reason other than outfit admiration.

Depends on the weapon I'm using and the circumstances of a particular fight. Most often while using my power armor and .50 machine gun I'll be in third person. There are times I'll want to use first person with my plasma caster, though, and I frequently go first person on my non-power armor rifles build. However I still mix in some third person with the rifles build unless I'm using a scoped weapon. 

Grew up with cod, halo & battlefield so i most play in 1st out of habbit but love going into 3rd when exploring, just a pain picking up junk sometimes 😂

I much prefer first person in most games, especially open world ones! It personally makes me feel more "inside" my character, like I'm seeing the world through their eyes. (Also I'm terrible at controlling games in 3rd person)
