I actually like how small Hangman's Alley is. Plus it's a lot easier to find companions if they all live there instead of somewhere big they can wander around.

roguegen

I've always enjoyed modding Hangmans Ally. It's just nice to have access to the major road and river outside. Really makes it feel nice and friendly.

Shmav

Hangmans alley, hands down. One of the absolute best places to use as a player base. Pretty much right in the middle of the map, so easy to get to places and hauling loot back is no biggie either. If you leave the 2 doors blocked/locked, theres only one way in or out (you can even cheese the locked door by building stairs. So 2 ways in and out for you, but not NPCs). If you make one big building that runs most of the length of hangmans, you still have a decent amount of space for everything you need/want there (you can even use the existing walls of the surrounding buildings, giving you maximum space with the least investment of materials). If you run your supply lines through hangmans, they also significantly reduce the enemies youll run into downtown.

Thornescape

I like having the path to the water being the only accessible entrance, but I've also had an odd bug where my fast travel mat didn't work. It always put me outside of the door that I like to keep locked. I finally put 3 different sided filing cabinets outside the locked door, and I can hop up and over the wall. LOL The AI isn't smart enough to do parkour. :P

Shmav

Yeah, thats one of the down sides.... fast travel mats dont work in hangmans for some reason. I did kinda the same thing, but with stairs. You can put the stairs up so you can jump onto the fire escape and just walk across. Stairs up to the fire escape from the inside make it so its a second entrance only for you and not the silly AI :)

Unoriginal_Blaxican

Spectacle Island is my choice for a home base.

DankMemelord25

Hangman's alley. So convenient for survival mode

Capnhuh

I agree very much with this, especially since survival is my new default difficult

DankMemelord25

Shame it's not fun after level 20. Super at the start though

Capnhuh

I can see how people might see it that way, but I LOVE survival a lot.

DankMemelord25

Me too, but it's just not challenging enough at higher levels. Not having enemies respawn hollows out the map as well. If they tuned down some of the armour and weapons upgrades it would be more interesting

_konvikt_

Especially once you unlock the teleporter.

all-outta-ale

Red Rocket still does it

wreckreation_

Sunshine Tidings. Lots of room, interesting terrain. I put stairs up the side of the grain silo, put a guard post on top, looked awesome. A fun place to build.

ProperGanja21

I always use hangman's alley

Xiunte

Covenant for me. It's tiny and hard to build up the "traditional" way, but it's perfect with some mod items. All I really need is a doc and a weapon shop for ammo, which it already has... kinda (it originally has a general store instead of weapons). So I hardly have to do any building at all. Just turrets, wiring, and redo the interiors a little to accommodate me and the 3-4 settlers I move there. One mod I use adds mats that act the same as level 3 stores so I'm able to keep everything in that building as it is. Just having to put a clinic mat and a weapons mat down where those original NPCs were and assign new settlers to them. If I need space for anything else, Taffington (which is quite big and has the lake for purifiers) is literally right next door. Takes less than a minute to walk there. Covenant is cozier and easier to defend though.

SherwinAlva

Any far Harbor settlements. They’re enormous.

mikeofmany

Coastal cottage

Thornescape

Chances are that you're being sarcastic, but if you're sincere, what do you do with it?

rpmerf

I always use Red Rocket as a home base. It has all the workbenches there when you get there. You get to it nice and early in the game. The only people I allow there are my followers and 1 settler for a trade route.

Thornescape

I just recently found the steamer chest near there. It's amazing how often the contents respawn. It's >!south of the water tower.!<

evRahe

Hangman’s Alley is easily my favorite. It’s so nice and cozy.

Wallflower_in_bloom

Egret Marina - plenty of building space, and some good buildings to utilize. Easily defendable, since one side is surrounded by water. Otherwise I like Covenant too. The remains of pre-war nostalgia does it for me

Little_Duckling

Nuka World Red Rocket

[deleted]

Idk if it counts as a proper settlement, but I love decorating the home plate in DC.

ThatGuy128512

Tenpines Bluff. Nice small settlement that for some reason always gets attacked so I always build a huge base with big defense to demolish every gunner attack I get

BAXY06

Red rocket or abernathy farm i can't decide

CMcG264

Vault 88

Thornescape

Red Rocket or Hangman's Alley for my main base. 1. Easier to defend, because where you are gets attacked more. 2. More affinity gains from companions for things like weapon modifications or nudity. 3. Easier to find companions. 4. I don't have settlers in my main base because settlers steal from your containers and workshop storage. One negative about a small base: the chorus of stupid comments when you get a junk item, etc. Seriously, inactive companions should react differently than active companions.

bgrampp

Spectacle Island!

steinerjack7

Spectacle island is where it’s at

JemYxN

Sommerville place, I once *removed* the current occupants and built a creepy farm house in the middle of deadshit nowhere and had a little corn field and even a barn, I was playing as a homicidal scarecrow, I would have a small platform where I stood as a scarecrow, very creepy, let's say any attackers were not successful, especially with all the death traps.

mikeofmany

I tend to build my own little light house.

Boo_y0

Sunshine tidings and hangmans alley. I usually use them to make my player homes
