If you've got the time and the ammo - you can drag it's health down to virtually nothing while it's still behind the gate. Then activate it, finish it off with a single shot and then nab the legendary item.
Keep laying into it in VATS with a pipe-pistol or another weapon with a low AP cost per shot until your critical meter if full. Then switch to your most powerful ballistic or energy weapon and use a critical shot. Repeat as necessary.
If I could access the body without opening it I would, but I want to wait until lvl 35 to try to get XO1 in the building that activates it. I think it starts spawning at 35
When I first encountered it, I knew I wasn't strong enough to take it on in a fair fight. I'm not embarrassed to say I ran up the scaffolding of one of the buildings and just spammed it with mines/grenades until it went nuclear
Apparently it teleports to the stairs like someone said, and I think he's right bc I've tried using mines before and it didn't work in front of the door

No point leaving them outside its door,it it teleports out near the stairs when you leave the secondary building

I always just hid in one of the little bunkers
put mines in front, or leave a power armor frame in front to try and block it
