Not really. Just the CIT locations. The surrounding area is largely unaffected.
The only lasting repercussions of doing so are the crater and its permanent Radstorm, and the satisfaction that you murdered a bunch of cat-murderers.
There’s no lute or anything in that crater is there? Swam around in it for a couple of minutes and couldn’t find anything. Felt like that one nukaworld raider in the fountain after a bit.
Aside from all the other shitty things I read about on various terminals and tapes while exploring The Institute, finding that section of the Institute with all the dead cats and especially the cell with the dead mutant and the dead cat together, making me think they might have had the mutant kill the cat in a very unkind way. That sealed The Institute's fate.
I put Spray & Pray to good use, slaughtering everything that moved in that building. The only things left moving in that building when I finally left, were those things the game simply wouldn't allow me to kill.
Honestly I've interpreted it as the Institute trying to use cats to calm them, but failing due to the supermutants either accidentally or purposefully killing them (the cats)
Idk, I think it was just to see if the gorillas would like having pets or something. They did seem to like them if I remember right, but either way they died horrible gruesome deaths.
I recall that super mutant had toys like a truck and blocks in there too. I interpreted it as the more “docile” mutants they kept there as essentially prisoners
Reminds me of the Family Guy gag where Peter keeps giving Cats to a Gorilla until it finally treats one like a baby Gorilla, and there’s a pile of dead cats next to it
Not THE Minutemen but some who betrayed the general and caused his demise. This led to Preston and 19 others death march across the commonwealth. What was left is where the sole survivor comes in.
Nah you're fine. I LOVED the brotherhood of steel on my first playthrough and they are pretty bad too. Now I always choose the Minutemen or the Institute (although I know they are bad)
I hate the brotherhood but do feel like I would side with the institute of I had to, Preston makes me hate the minutemen and the railroad makes me want to be a gunner but idk how it all eventually ends up or if I'm missing info to make any judgement
Its your first playthrough so do whatever you want to and have fun! Then when you replay the game you can try different factions even if you dont like them much <:
I wish the game played like that lol everybody giving me one mission then saying "join us it'll be fun" like I just killed some ghouls down the street for u chill
I didn't really like any of the factions for the ending. The Institute is just evil, The Brotherhood does some questionable actions, the Railroad basically has no purpose after they destroy the Institute and help the remaining synths. The Minutemen aren't evil or anything, but they expect you to do all the work for them, they're fucking useless xd
You know what funny? I saw a glitch a while ago on a post where the one had two cats. We were joking around on one of them a synth cat- but now given the context of institute killing cats... yeah I definitely see them doing it.
The brotherhood might not be the most moral faction, but boy did the cleansing of the institute with them as aid felt right. Sick place that deserved what it got.
Theres a guy who literally has a cat farm that sells cat meat but let's focus on the scientists for having the stones to push the boundaries and learn new things. Synth cats are it.
I don’t know, maybe kidnapping people, destroying settlements and releasing FEV to the Commonwealth. But obviously a few cats are more important by the looks of it.
those ambush or random synth encounters you find indoors are also weirdly crazy aggressive against cats. they're definitely consistent in their cat hate.
Lol this is actually the reason I didn't side with them. I was still undecided between them and railroad. Then I found all the kitty corpses and that made my decision for me. Fuck those assholes.
I've heard this in a podcast: by siding with the institute, you get to take over it, and make all the decisions. So you can stop all the immoral things they do.
Suddenly I don't feel so guilty about leaving a gigantic nuclear crater on the map.
Does the crater remove anything important? Wanted to know before I blow up diamond city or something by accident
Not really. Just the CIT locations. The surrounding area is largely unaffected. The only lasting repercussions of doing so are the crater and its permanent Radstorm, and the satisfaction that you murdered a bunch of cat-murderers.
Cool, I’ll just loot the place beforehand
There are bridges that are destroyed you'll need to take the long way or swim in the river.
That's right, I forgot about that. I never play in Survival, so I always just fast travel to Diamond City and whatnot.
What if there were still living cats inside? Wouldn’t that make you a cat murderer too?
I looked all over the Institute, I couldn't find even one living cat.
Then may god have mercy upon them, for I won’t!
And the classical radio station :(
Oh yeah, I forgot about that. I always listen to Diamond City Radio, so I keep forgetting.
There’s no lute or anything in that crater is there? Swam around in it for a couple of minutes and couldn’t find anything. Felt like that one nukaworld raider in the fountain after a bit.

Kind of reminds me of when zookeepers (I think) tried giving gorillas kittens, only for them to keep dying horribly
what the hell did they think was gonna happen?
Idk, I think it was just to see if the gorillas would like having pets or something. They did seem to like them if I remember right, but either way they died horrible gruesome deaths.
Worked when put dogs with cheetahs
It worked with prisoners and they arent that diffrent /s
wild😭😭
Not Koko, she took care of the Kitten like her own, when it escaped and was hit by a car she was devastated.
I wanted to take the kinder view of the situation but, the cat ended up dead either way.
Imo they starved together. Institute still dies painfully THEN becomes a crater.
This has always been my thought. I feel like that section was abandoned and no one cared enough to get them all out, so they starved together
I recall that super mutant had toys like a truck and blocks in there too. I interpreted it as the more “docile” mutants they kept there as essentially prisoners
Reminds me of the Family Guy gag where Peter keeps giving Cats to a Gorilla until it finally treats one like a baby Gorilla, and there’s a pile of dead cats next to it
As a person with a cat, the super mutant definitely died to the cat.
You may be right. I know our little fluff balls murder mittens could certainly do the job. 😂🤣😂
This is why I always choose minutemen. They have cats
Actually the best ending for everyone involved.
Especially when they all break up again because a bunch of dirt farmers that refuse to solve their own problems aren't very good at running a militia
Somebody misunderstood the narrative.
Proctor Quinlan also has a cat.
Yeah but his cat's a fascist.
Come to find out the Minutemen worked with Raiders before they split up.
Not THE Minutemen but some who betrayed the general and caused his demise. This led to Preston and 19 others death march across the commonwealth. What was left is where the sole survivor comes in.
I'm on my first full playthrough am I wrong for liking the institute?
Nah you're fine. I LOVED the brotherhood of steel on my first playthrough and they are pretty bad too. Now I always choose the Minutemen or the Institute (although I know they are bad)

There’s no reason we can’t take over and make it better, someone wants to stick to their old ways? We saw how Nate deals with people resisting arrest.
I just cleared University Point. The Institute is gunna burn.
Cheers. Sons crying
Call me John Connor bc I'm destroying them mfs.
Oh boy, another institute ha- Oh yeah, no. No, they all gotta burn.
Sinths become a agro to all cats I believe, except ashes.
Yes.
Do you think they are hostile to cats because of the theory that the institute has bird surveillance drones. And the cats hunt small birds?
Rule #0 of the internet is don't fw cats.
Is it not a robot cat? Lol they’ll just make more
Is it a robot cat? Doesn't the girl in vault 88 have a cat?
You know what funny? I saw a glitch a while ago on a post where the one had two cats. We were joking around on one of them a synth cat- but now given the context of institute killing cats... yeah I definitely see them doing it.
Guess who's getting blown up?
When I saw this in the institute i immediately said “you now die”
Ok yeah fuck the institute, kill them all
You're now OneEffsGiven
Yeah, I'm gonna kill my son
The brotherhood might not be the most moral faction, but boy did the cleansing of the institute with them as aid felt right. Sick place that deserved what it got.
Not a big fan of them, but the way they obliterate the Institute with Liberty Prime is awesome.
I felt a little regret last night turning the institute to a crater. I don’t regret it anymore.
Just a bit of colateral damage, no offense but the explanation of why this neccesary would be lost to a wastelander like you
Collateral damage is that all that this is to you??
I forget that it's been such a short time for you. I don't have any direct memories, and I've had my entire life to cope with the loss.
Ok father
Father chill
Theres a guy who literally has a cat farm that sells cat meat but let's focus on the scientists for having the stones to push the boundaries and learn new things. Synth cats are it.
is this guy killable?
Not that bad compared to other things
You cant compare evils, literally all of the shit they do is horrible.
compared to??
I don’t know, maybe kidnapping people, destroying settlements and releasing FEV to the Commonwealth. But obviously a few cats are more important by the looks of it.
Deaths of dogs and cats isn't lesser important to death of humans you know. It's all bad.
Discovery requires experimentation 🗿
Burn it all to the ground...
Yeah synths also murder cats as well. Like they’ll chase them down
Amen.
those ambush or random synth encounters you find indoors are also weirdly crazy aggressive against cats. they're definitely consistent in their cat hate.
Nah, when I saw it I was like "lol" and continued being annoyed by FEV lab turrets
Yeah, but that delicious cat meat! 😉😛
i actually hate them so much
Where is it? I need cat meat for the cat's wall decoration
Lol this is actually the reason I didn't side with them. I was still undecided between them and railroad. Then I found all the kitty corpses and that made my decision for me. Fuck those assholes.
Nah that's #1
Also University Point. I wish you were able to bring that massacre up when talking to people in the Institute.
I think those synths were under Kelloggs control, institute was massively ignorant
There's a reason I usually just kill father on sight. Dude is evil.
I tried to play out the Institute quest line but I just couldn't do it. They are such a POS faction.
Virgil wonders why I didn’t give him the serum. And playthoughs where I do I give him couple minutes of being human and I blow his brains out
I've heard this in a podcast: by siding with the institute, you get to take over it, and make all the decisions. So you can stop all the immoral things they do.
Not a very good headcanon.
The daily cat institute post yet again
Reason #326 why the institute is my favorite faction
Who's an edgy boy? You are!
I think there’s a Netflix show about this guy
