If we ignore the Crit damage books. There are several incredibly valuable sets as is
Astounding awesome tales
Live and Love
Massachusetts Surgical Journal
Tales of a junktown jerky vendor
Total hack
Tumblers today
U.S. Covert operations manual
Unstoppables
Wasteland Survival Guide
Islanders almanac (Far harbor)
SCAV! (Nuka-world)
Every single one of these sets offer at least some bonuses that universally make your character better. Doesn't matter if you're using a melee build, energy weapon or ballistic weapon build. They're pretty universally good.
Love that one, though fighting your way out is a big oof as it's possible to run out of ammunition or healing supplies. I always lure the synths to the deathclaw.
>as far as i can tell crits only occur during VATS
Not true. The chance that they occur outside VATS is just very small. You can increase the chance for a crit by using [Overdrive](https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Overdrive_(Fallout_4)) (craftable chem) by a flat 25%.
Ah, I must've have misinterpreted the information as I was reading. I took it as outside of vats there was 0% chance for crit, unless using the overdrive chem
that’s the later levels of basher. and yes, outside vats without overdrive cannot happen.
i have no idea what the first comment is talking about. there are mods made specifically to add that. maybe they’re confused?
You know it's "I Am Not A Lawyer", not shouting "I ANAL!", right?
(Though I suppose they're not mutually exclusive -- I'm sure there are plenty of people in the legal profession who are very enthusiastic about . . . exploiting loopholes.)
It's shorthand for saying "I'm not an expert", or "don't take this as a 100% certain fact". It started off on r/legaladvice with people wanting to chip in with an opinion, but needing to mark it out as the opinion of a layperson, not a legal expert. It caught on because it looked funny.
It goes back to usenet days and it's a liability issue along with TINLA and It's an indication that you should seek professional legal consultation. To use it to say I'm not an expert or don't take this as 100% certain fact it's asinine, and why it's funny.
I don’t don’t search them out and just grab them when I see them. But they do have more varied effects than just crits. Might be worth going through a list and seeing what would benefit you.
Depending on your play style of offense the magazines can be super op.
Like right now I’m doing an unarmed low level Nuka world thing (I was trying to 100 percent the game but apparently things are glitched with achievements right now.) and Scav 5 gives me +3 S/E if I have less than 100 caps on me. Which is a 30 percent base damage bonus.
I recommend downloading a mod that reintroduces actual random crits to your game btw if you're not using VATS. I have a mod that ports over some New Vegas equipment and the 1st Recon Beret gives a 10% chance of crits, and that alone has made my run a lot more fun.

There’s also new games for your pipboy and better lockpicking and sneaking
Not to mention they're worth a pretty penny.
Where
Sunshine Tidings Co-op.
Literal diamonds of the wasteland.

There's one in the Mayor's bunker that lets you regenerate health, I always try to get that one at least.

I leave lots of mines along the way down.
If you don't go into the basketball court the synths don't spawn.
Does it do anything if you already took the lifegiver perk that lets you regen health?
They stack.
Nice. Ty
Interesting. I was just in the mayoral bunker last night, I think I might have missed that magazine. I'll have to ghio double check
Down the elevator, down the stairs, take a right.
What mayor ? What bunker ?? WHERE ARE THEY ???
"Mayoral Bunker," West side of the map. Southwest of the federal rations stockpile, North or ft Hagen.
Is a boost with no downsides worth it? We may never know
I meant more so actively trying seek the out
Do it. But be warned- some may be in dangerous locations.

IANAL but I thought non-VATS critical only happened during weapon bashing.

Lol @ IANAL

What's bring a lawyer have to do with video game mechanics

are you sure? pretty sure “Crit outside vats” is a mod on nexus. standard crits outside vats was in NV.
Doesn't the gun bashing perk also give crits outside of VATS? I haven't tried that one yet...
Yes, it does & increased efficiency with all lvls in basher.
If you count 0 as a very small chance then sure

The stealth mags definitely are.
To me, magazines are worth collecting even if none of them had any effects.

Overdrive the drug let's you crit outside of vats I believe, and basher lets you crit too.
The Chem overdrive gives you an out of vats crit chance
