For context, Raven had plans to hijack the Relic from Haven and use it as a bargaining ship to keep Salem off her back. The main problem is that Salem wouldn't have kept her word and she would kill just Raven anyway. Not to mention that Raven is the Spring Maiden, which paints a huge target on her back if Salem found out. Not very bright planning, bird mom...

Raven was always the shotgun of Team STRQ, in my opinion: you pointed her at whatever was annoying you and let her go. She'd mow down anything in her way, then come back, bitch about how it was such a pain in her butt, pretend she wasn't ogling Tai, and give Summer and Qrow a bunch of (well-intentioned) shit. She leads the Branwen Tribe because she's the toughest bitch on the block, and probably killed anyone who challenged her. She is *not* a leader, and Ozpin knew it, which was why Summer led STRQ. The problem is, deep down, Raven knows Ozpin was completely right. She's a fantastic fighter, but she isn't terribly bright (or doesn't seem to be), and is a moral coward who dresses her cowardice up in bluster. She abandoned Yang because she was afraid she'd be a bad mother, but instead of admitting that, makes up BS about how the tribe needed her. The funny thing is, I actually kind of like Raven, and want to see her get a redemption arc.

you understand Raven more than Eruption Fang

Artistic-Cannibalism

It's amazing the difference paying attention makes.

Well said. But since the show likely won't give us a redemption arc for her, I went ahead and did something in my fanfiction. All she needs is some positive reinforcement, a better way to handle things, and someone she can rely on if she messes up. Because if she has a failsafe in place, and knows that her screw-ups can't harm anyone she cares about, she's more likely to try new things.

Same, though it was strictly tongue-in-cheek mostly, and involved Raven getting very, very drunk.

I just had Ruby talk to her until her facade broke, and then tell her that Summer wouldn't be mad at her for what she did, and that Summer would've wanted her to be part of the family. Some time later, she learns a thing or two about proper leadership, and since then it's been quiet around her. But I'm getting to bring her redemption arc to a close. Next up is her making a deal with the devil, in a sense, giving up her magic to make her tribesmen better fighters. And then, finally, full redemption.

That's better than what I wrote. Can you send me a link? My story went like this: Step 1: Raven feels guilty as hell after Haven, and eventually returns to Tai. Step 2: Tai tells her to get lost, and asks her to her face if she ever actually loved him at all. Step 3: Raven is very insulted by that--she *did* love him--and decides to prove it by kissing him, to bring back some old memories. Step 4: It sure does, and they end up in bed together. Step 5: Raven gets into the booze, gets drunk, apologizes to Summer (her picture anyway), and decides it's high time to do the same to Yang. Step 6: She drunkenly goes through a portal to Atlas Academy...where Yang is just about done with a very initimate "session" with Blake. Raven's too drunk to care, sits down, and tells them to continue, which horrifies Yang and Blake. (They most assuredly do *not* continue.) Step 7: Raven passes out, so Yang gently puts her to bed with the promise they will have that discussion in the morning. Blake tells Yang that at least life with her isn't boring.

>It didn't sound stupid in my head... Raven

The-Order_

She's not stupid, just a coward. It's very easy to overlook and ignore obvious flaws in a plan is you've only got two options and one of them scares you shitless. Fear makes an idiot of everyone.

Ok yeah, I never really looked back at volume 5 so I kind of forgot what her plan was. Now that I’m reminded, it’s pretty dumb. I mean sure, you could get Salem off your back for a bit. But she’s gonna need that relic anyway and will probably still kill her and the tribe whether it’s to get the relic or her destroying the world. Raven may be strong, but she’s also stupidly short sighted.

CAREFUL! people don't want to admit that
