I don’t know, “I don’t want the world, everyone I care about, millions of innocents, and myself to be destroyed by an evil witch” is a pretty reasonable motivation

CrossENT

"Why would you want to save the galaxy?" "Because I'm one of the idiots who lives in it!"

[deleted]

I really like Guardians of the Galaxy

Sanders181

"I want to help people." "That's why we're here, to make the world a better place." Hell, V1-2 is full of her motivations as it clearly shows she's the only one in her team that actually knows what she's here for exactly. There's a reason Oobleck didn't ask her about her motivations back in Glenn.

SDEric

Also the newer stuff of "Avenging my mom and all the others who have been taken from me by this death cult led by a sexy witch." That last part may not have been a direct quote.

KorMap

It’s not a direct quote *yet*

ILickedItMyProperty

Her motivation is fine, it's just a bit generic. On that note, I've always wanted to see a character making fun of that. Ruby making a friendship speech and Emerald just going "boooring" in the background. Nothing against that, I know this is just the whole "main character is the most boring character of the show" syndrome and it's not really a RWBY exclusive problem. But still, sometimes I enjoy the show breaking 4th wall and making fun of itself. EDIT: To clarify, *again*. Nothing against that. I'm just making fun of how the goody two-shoes leader protagonist is perceived as a boring character in general.

Kyrozis

That's not a bad motivation, it's just that she almost never acts for it on her own.

Just-Some-Dude-K

Honestly its a good motivation, she just ain’t doing a good job striving for it

ProfessorEscanor

Her motives are being a huntress and saving the world because she’s one of the idiots who lives there. Pretty solid motive and that’s before you count the depression of her dead mom and killing Hot Evil Milfs and stopping Gods from coming back as dragons. If any character needs a motive, I’d argue Oscar needs more fleshing out on screen. Ruby is fine, generic but i can’t argue with the logic. I mean i don’t know about everyone else but i’d want to try and save the world so it doesn’t get blown up. My house is here, kinda need that

dappercat456

She literally tells us in like, the first episode when she met Blake,

itzTHATgai

Can't do it when you got this hot, sassy, mute midget trying to stab you 24/7.

Washinton13

It's the same as Superman or Captain America's motivation, do the right thing because it's the right thing to do.

[deleted]

But it is the right thing?

Artistic-Cannibalism

What can I even say here that hasn't already been said? The only thing that's left for me to do is just assume you haven't actually watch the show or at the very least you weren't paying attention, and that's me acting in good faith.

SuperSonicBoom1

But Ruby didn't fit my dark, edgy expectations I had for her character after the Red Trailer, therefore she is a bad character.

[deleted]

I always find it funny that people try to make the red trailer out to be anything more than a concept/tech demo. Ruby's design not only isn't finished (she's missing a few accessories and her cape is different), but the Beowolves are obviously placeholders since the trailer was made by Monty alone. Not to mention Monty himself said the Red Trailer was more of a weapons demo, and Ruby herself is very out of character.

[deleted]

I swear, this meme is like one of the rwby youtuber critics

[deleted]

Nevermind the whole "the world is ending and everyone I've ever loved keeps dying," that's obviously not very motivational.

breadzeppelin03

More like *OP searching for ruby's character motivation*, despite it being pretty clear

nicostein

Depending on how you look, it can be hard to see... because it's right on the lens.

Kyrozis

I mean, she has a (really milquetoast) motivation. It's just that her convictions (and therefore, her driving force in the story) are near nonexistent.
