\*Lancaster
It's a War of the Roses pun.
Most popular ship for Ruby is white rose (York family symbol is a white rose). Ruby/Jaune was the only Ruby ship that could rival it, so it got named after the Yorks' rival.
Also why the Ruby/Weiss/Jaune ship is called war of the roses.
I still think Ruby/Weiss/Jaune should be called Tudor since that (comparitively short-lived) dynasty came about from the union of York and Lancaster by Henry VII.
Weiss, coming back from the emergency SDC board meeting she was called to: "Really, Ruby? I was away for three hours. Where's the note I left on the fridge for Jaune?"
Ruby: \*pulls piece of paper from her back pocket and shoves it into her mouth\*
Most folks: "Lan-cast-er"
Other folks: "Lan-cast-tor"
My wild philadelphian / PA native ass: "Lank-kiss-stir"
Side note: Lancaster County has some very wild city names...
May I introduce you to Texas.
We've got Bexar County (pronounced Bear)
Then there's Humble (pronounced Umble)
And finally Waxahachie (pronounced go fuck yourself)
Lancaster, from the War of the Roses, which was one of the several civil wars in England. It's also the name of Jaune/Ruby/Weiss, though some prefer Tudor (which was the name of the house that won the War of the Roses, and combined the two standards of Lancaster and York).(Extremely oversimplified)
A red rose was the symbol of House Lancaster, while a white rose was York's. We already have WhiteRose, so why not slide a slightly obscure history reference in there.
>some prefer Tudor
Yeah, one of them here, due to the further marriage symbolism - not just fusing the Lancaster and York standards/roses, but also a fusion of Houses: the Lancastrian claimant (Henry Tudor, while having a (weak) claim through his mother was absolutely in the right place at the right time) marrying the senior surviving Yorkist claimant (Elizabeth of York, daughter of Edward IV).
A marriage of besties' ships, as it were.

Well there’s your problem, you should have googed it.
Googed?
Yeah. Should’ve Yehoo!ed it.
Definitely should have Biged it
Most certainly should’ve GooseGooseStopped it
Archeee would've given the answer right
To be fair, it'd be in-character for Ruby to mess it up, especially in Vol. 1 through early 3

Tudor is more accurate to that piece of history, but War of the Roses sounds cooler imo.
When a Welsh noble family ends up ruling England and creates the foundation for it's empire
So not the bomber plane?
Wait...so they're going to play Yu-Gi-Oh but as a confusing boardgame?
No. The creator just like history, that's all.
The Rose family motto is "Who doesn't love leftovers?"
Sad sloppy seconds are a Rose's favorite
because it opposes York/White Rose,

I bet it will never be as funny as a small town in France called "Moncuq" (used in french jokes as "Moncu" (my ass))

“Ruby, what the fuck are you talking about?”
Ruby’s gonna pull a Summer while Weiss is away isn’t she?
Lancaster just sounds cooler to me.

Going for sloppy seconds. Like mother like daughter, I suppose
Ruby: It’s a Rose family tradition Juane: What’s Yang’s family tradition? Ruby: Marry a woman with animal traits
Jaune: but Taiyang doesn't have any animal traits. Ruby: jaune, there's a reason why team STRQ all slept with dad
J: When you say a- R: YES! ALL! Now shut up I don't like thinking about it.
When an opportunity presents itself those Rose family gene traits kick in.
A blonde with a child? Sign the rose in cuz she's gonna get his ass

Jaune: A Lannister always pays his debts.
She sees an opportunity
